NWN2 MotB - Best char build for most enjoyable play-through?

Hello rpgcodex :)

Someone please help me - I'm about to play through MotB for the very first time (never played NWN or NWN2 before) and was wondering what kind of character to create, to get the best out of the story / pass the most stat checks (priority). I prefer fighters to casters, but would play a caster to get more out of the story.

(I'm asking, because I remembered my first PST play-through with a low WIS/CHA/INT build decades ago and would like to avoid restarting a halfway finished campaign ...)

Thanks!

You start with a rogue (for the massive skill points at lvl1) then take the second lvl of rogue for evasion. From then on lvl Barbarian. With Int 14 you'll be swimming in skill points. Pick the Able learner feat to be able to increase your rogue class skills for the normal cost even when leveling up as barbarian. That way you can max UMD and Tumble, a social skill of your choice and even hide/move silently as prereqs for Shadow Dancer if you want to pick up Hide in Plain Sight.
As long as you optimize AC and have your companions learn the crafting feats to get a strong weapon/armor (pick craft magic weapons and armor on the druid, pick craft wondrous items on the wizard etc, remember the bards inspire competence can significantly increase your skills so you can craft stuff like mithral full plate early) you should experience little difficulty with such a character.

edit: in MotB Safiya already has all the crafting feats you'll need.

Make the Codex Great Again! Pathfinder: Wrath
"Kaze no Kama shadowdancer" was fun also any kind of Sorc/Pally (Decent AB and full caster power).

What you should do is just check out the builds from "battle of the builds" any of these are good so pick one you like the sound of all of them can clear the game and do everything pretty much. Just remember more skillpoints means more things you can do that pop up like "Spellcraft: I know this spell" ECT.

EDIT: Here is the link most of these builds are downright godly (http://nwn2.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Power_Builds)

I think I went with Bard 2 / Red Dragon Disciple -- dual wielding crafted elemental swords. High CHA for the dialogues, mostly auto-pilot combat.

having played NWN online for about four years the best player I ever saw especially in a large group (20+) actually happened to be a Bard. They effectively cycled between healing, group spells and songs, and feat focused magic missile spells for damage. This is going back ten or so years now (alas time flies) and in comparison to experiences across various other online games they still stand out as one of the most comprehensive players I ever saw in action

anyway, in NWN the Rogue probably works well beyond their intended specialisations, personally I found playing single class Druids the most interesting (Creeping Doom for any boss encounter on servers...) and mostly enjoyed pure classes for their late game abilities and role play qualities

Go warlock and max eldritch knight Asap with kaedrin's class pack asap. then fill the remaining levels with warlock/prestige classes which give spellcasting levels (like a level of dragon slayer perhaps) at will casting and solid autoattack makes the game a breeze.

Play a Fighter who eventually becomes a Dwarven Defender and focus on increasing AC and other defenses. You'll win most fights even if you leave the computer to get a coffee while they're ongoing.

NWN2's combat just isn't good enough to justify a complicated build that needs a lot of micromanagement to shine in combat.

Since to get the most out of MoTB you'll want lotsa skill points mostly in talky talky skills like persuade, bluff and intimidate a rogue of some sort is a good candidate to get the most out of the story, dialogue and your companions. They get a lot of skill points + going rogue/swashbuckler gives you access to daring outlaw and at epic levels the ability to sneak attack enemies that are normally immune to it, tho at reduced damage.
Plus what is cooler, hiding is shadows and striking at unexpected opponents or BEING FABULOUS and singing at your foes?

A pure bard rocks too, just take 16 CHA and then go full STR, max perform and late game Hymn of Requiem would obliterate everything in just a few combat rounds. And you'll have lots of skill points. And greater heroism, improved invis, mirror image. Inspire competence, inspire regeneration, a song for massive dodge AC, ffs there are no weaknesses.

I realize I might've come a bit rasis against bards but the truth is a good bard is one in a million rare. It happens tho.

The NWN expansions for both games and Throne of Bhaal are the only RPGs I have yet to play from back in the day. I'm excited to go further into MOTB. Evil first because I heard the story might warrant a 2nd playthrough

If you go evil the hunger bar hardly matters anyway since you're just gonna eat everybody.

Don't know if the op settled on a build, but something cookie cutter works well -- I went Bard/Fighter/Red Dragon. Could pass most dialogue checks, hardly died and was good at auto attacking.

Hunger bar shouldn't be a problem at all, but in case you dislike it there's a workaround. Quoting the GameFaqs poster:

Here's a cycle thats much better.

1 Start just inside the Mulsantir city gate.
2 Suppress
3 Leave the city
4 Run to the edge of the map to load the world map
5 Travel back to the city gate from the world map

That way resets your spells/abilities as if you rested but uses up 0 time. So you can Suppress again immediately. I was able to reduce my craving to 0 after having devoured all 9 coven members. A feat which by the time you are done has your craving at 100%.

Playing with max craving isn't that bad regardless of being good or evil. It has some nice side effects too, like permanent true seeing and concealment.

Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Install the mod to disable the hunger bar.

You know, I've been looking for this on Google and I can't seem to find it. Any idea where to go?
You don't need a mod, it can be disabled through the console. Same for companion limit. That being said, you shouldn't remove the spirit meter, it's a really cool mechanic and a great example of gameplay and story integration.

Wandering the world randomly in search of maps
Those super complicated builds are shit.

Just do Fighter 12 / Weapon Master 8. Take all epic levels in Fighter.

Focus and specialize in Greatsword. Take all the cleave feats. Take monkey grip to wield a shield if you want more defense. Pump strength, wear heavy armor. Destroy everything.
