No Man's Sky Designer Quietly Leaves Hello Games To Work On Star Citizen

No Man’s Sky has faced a tortured development cycle often compared to Star Citizen, and now the two controversial space projects are sharing employees. Longtime Hello Games designer Gareth Bourn signed on to Squadron 42 campaign developer Foundry42 last month according to his LinkedIn page.
I actually laughed out loud. Oh how the strands of fate twist and turn. It's like pottery.

Hello,

This week Hello Games will be releasing an update to No Man’s Sky. We’re calling it The Foundation Update, because we have added the foundations of base building, and also because this is putting in place a foundation for things to come.

Detailed patch notes will follow, and release will be soon.

Coming from five years of intense development, immediately after No Man’s Sky released the team spent six weeks updating the game with 7 patches across both platforms (the last of these was 1.09 on Sept 24th which you can read about here http://www.no-mans-sky.com/log/). These fixed many of the most common or critical bugs and issues post-release.

In the nine weeks since then our small team has been hard at work on development, testing and certification for the Foundation Update. It won’t be our biggest update, but it is the start of something.

The discussion around No Man’s Sky since release has been intense and dramatic. We have been quiet, but we are listening and focusing on improving the game that our team loves and feels so passionately about.

Positive or negative feedback, you have been heard and that will truly help to make this a better game for everyone.

This update will be the first small step in a longer journey. We hope you can join us.

Thank you,

Hello Games

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire
Sounds like another heaping disappointment just like the game itself, well for those that thought it was going to be a good game and somehow think this game can be saved. I knew it was going to be a huge turd long before it even released. Don't know what they could add to the game that would make it less shit anyways.

Base building, in a game where you can't even go back to a previous system, is exactly what was needed.
Now instead of just farming, you will probably need to build a base, and only with it produce the necessary resources to proceed.
And then repeat the same in the next system.

No Man's Sky comes out of ALPHA into BETA !

http://www.no-mans-sky.com/foundation-update/

Honestly 1.1 seems like huge upgrade over what piece of garbage non 1.1 was. With 1.1 you can do at least something.

Added:

- new resources
- bases which player can build from parts (assuming those new resources will be used on)
- farming (growing those bullshit zinc crops)
- objects need now certain techs to be minable
- freighters which player can buy
- hiring system for bases, freighters etc.
- shitload of QoL improvements. like resources can be 5 time stacked per slot, quick access menu for recharge of shields etc.
- creative/survival mode
- photomode
- proper AA solution (looks waaay sharper than vanilla jaggy mess) and motion blur

I'd say i am surprised. They could just take money and run away but they seem to want to do game some justice.

I think that those features and few other in incoming patches are just features that NMS was supposed to have from day1 but due to delays and shit they had to cut them down for release and release them in patches.

If they will add wingmen and some actual faction warfare then i may consider switching it on again.

I mean this is imo the biggest change:

Generation
  • Added biome specific plants
  • Adopted new method of distributing resource plants on terrain, for more lifelike clumps of plants
  • Improved distribution of plant life across all terrain types
  • Introduced visual differentiation of red, green and blue star systems
  • Introduced new mineable terrain resources found only in red, green and blue star systems
  • Reduced average building frequency
  • Introduced planets with elevated building density
  • Introduced planets with no buildings or sentient life
  • Increased the proportion of lush and tropical planets
  • Decreased the proportion of lifeless planets
  • Fixed bug where multiple ships could appear, overlapping, at the player's start scene
  • Prevented certain building types being incorrectly placed underwater
  • Prevented multiple buildings occasionally being placed in overlapping positions
  • Prevented buildings occasionally being placed intersecting with the terrain
  • Improved and altered per-planet terrain resource generation, improving gameplay and visuals

At least it should mean that some planets now won't be populated by base/crashsite etc every fucking 2 km and there is actual reason to get those different warp drives (previously you could find any resource everywhere)

No, they just want to sell some more copies with a discount on Autumn and Winter sales.
They probably planned to release it as a DLC for $20, but no one is going to buy it at this point.
