Problem is I'm not making any claim. I'm stating a simple fact - I'm not buying Vampy when it first comes out. It's an FPS which means no go. Period.

So as long as a game is in the first person it's automatically a first person shooter, Volourn?

When it's been described as in FPS, sure.

We'll, given the half-life 2 engine, its hard not to see it as at least partially an FPS. That an a lot of the early coverage was focused on the combat... so its easy to see where the reservations are coming from.
Add in that White Wolf's Vampire is very much not for everyone, and people scratching their heads and wondering if the really want it isn't much of a surprise.

I prefer to think of it as an homage

An homage to what? Previous cross-genre vampire games with cross-gender characters? (I'm totally assuming there are some. But I've read enough white wolf stuff to know that they're most likely there. And homosexual pirates with an extensive array of dental skills tends to reinforce the odds)

Voss, youa re posting on topic and I'm trying to as well. Others like to spam off topic andusually about me.

Vamp's role-playing aspects look like it could be a winner and the chaarcetr creation looks pretty good too. I just feel like spendiong full price on a game that has FPS qualities and for a game that may very well be buggy. Like I said, I'll wait on it no matter how much Ex whines otherwise. Unlike Visc, most others actually say what they mean.

Sorry - I was refering to demos available to the public - not press demos. And I have to say that the MOHAA public demos were some of the best ever released, IMHO. I bought the game on the strength of those demos alone. Don't know how many hours I wasted playing "The Hunt" map seeing as I got my DSL conection about the time it was released.

I hate paying full price for games, especially if I haven't played a demo and I haven't heard how other people like it. If it's a game that I feel I just have to get, I can usually wait a few months for the price to drop a bit and then pick it up. The only problem with that is I usually know just about everything that is in the game by then, but I might be retarded because I don't really know where this post is going.

I think I meant that I wasn't planning on buying this game when it first came out, and the fact that they are not releasing a demo really sealed the deal for me.

    Waiting for the bargain bin!

Well, hey, Volourn doesn't like FPS games. That's his preference. And since all those BioWare RPGs have trained him to see only the combat solutions to quests, he'd have to play Bloodlines as, more or less, an FPS. Nothing ridiculous there.

Well, if they thought the game was going to sell really well, then they'd probably be thinking that a demo would make it sell that much better because it has a lot of appeal. I can't see them not releasing a game's demo because they think it will sell well enough without one, If you got that much faith in a game, then you'll want as many people out there to try it as possible.

It also may not be faith in Troika we're talking about here. It could be faith in the Vampire: the Masquerade license they lack or faith in the market for the title, or even lack of faith in the mechanics Troika is implimenting. It could be the lack of faith that the game will be completely ready when they release it, knowing it will be shippable but not 100%. It could be any number of the above.

Heh, I'd buy this game day of release If i could, however Ole Grey Mule 300 Mhz here just don't cut it. Then again, I'm a Vampire Fanboy, and am curious to see if they fucked the dog like Nihilistic did, or if my faith in Arcanum's creators will win the day.

I'm gonna get it because it sounds fun, to be honest, heh.

But it's not the only game I plan on getting, also plan on getting a bunch of strategy games that are coming out this year, and a FPS or two (STALKER, of course).

Now truthfully, is it me or does this seem purely like a shooter with vampire powers, which might as well be <insertFantasyMagicPowersHere>. Of course they're claiming to be developing an RPG(ish), but like ToEE, I fear its merely token, with some misc dialogue choices and um...yea.

I'd hate to think that Arcanum was the only game out of Troika that I like(love).

    Cheers

I bought X-COM: Terror From the Deep and Half-Life purely because I played the demo's. I bought European Air War because I saw an ad in a magazine (and had been looking for a good aircraft fighter game at the time, since Advanced Tactical Fighters would no longer work under Windows 95).

Have you seen any screenshots of Bloodlines showing dialogue choices? I'm really asking that too. The only one I've seen is the one released right at the start where your choices were between "Yes" and "Yes with angst".

the quoted dialogue screens are going to be few and far between, considering the graphic content and foul language. most character responses also divulge greats swaths of plotline, if not limited to the yea or nay.

they don't need a demo to sell this game. it's got the half-life2 engine and a gaggle of leather-clad vampire babes to feature in print ads. that tandem will sell a million copies on it's own.

There was this dialogue screen with Mercutio - the damaged ghoul, that showed some 5-6 choices that actually differed pretty much. I think you could threaten or even kill him if you liked, as well as play nice. And there's been a lot of talk about the dialogue system, even from people that's had the game demoed to them. Check out Gamebanshee's E3 2004 report for instance.

Oh. And there's about 20 hours of voiceovers according to Troika's TJ Perillo.

But will there be a half-life 2 demo before the release of this game? What I need demos for is for checking wether the game will run on my hardware or not. If this was a PS2 game I would buy it after reading anywhere that it is decent. If I still had windows I would need to try it before buying (neverwinter showed me this lesson).

Even if no game demo is out there is a need for a thecnichal demo, or at least a program for checking your hardware and showing a message saying "Dude! Ur a cheap bastard! Cough $200 more for a decent videocard and I'll run fine!!!".

If valve is planning to do a demo, it will be shortly after HL2 is released. Not before. But it would most likely be way before bloodlines comes out. Or maybe around the same time. HL2 goes gold supposedly in august now, then they start making a demo and release it in september. Then bloodlines comes out in october.
    all in theory ^^^
