...from the guys who made Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive, and Metroid: Other M! Look at the lock-on, the UI, it's not even subtle. I don't think any Dark Souls clone is subtle, but yeesh. Personally, I don't think Team Ninja could pull it off, but I'd like to be wrong.

This isn't exactly new footage btw, but it's a lot more substantial than what we got.

i don't think this qualifies as a dark souls clone... i don't consider 'Souls games to be even action-RPG's but this is even less RPG-ish than even the already not-very-RPG-ish 'Souls games.

this footage reminds me much more of a game like the old Onimusha games, the Otogi games, and yes, of course it reminds me of Ninja Gaiden as well (though it doesn't look anywhere near as good as the Ninja Gaiden remakes).

Stamina bar, lock-on, rolling, the UI, counter/blocking. Other than the faster pace, flashy finishers, and probably extra weapon skills, what disqualifies this game as a Dark Souls clone? At the very least, being heavily Dark Souls inspired. Ninja Gaiden and Onimusha had zoomed out view, Nioh/Dark Souls has a 3rd person view. The shrine/bonfire, the armor equipping and stat screen...

Last time I checked Ninja Gaiden didn't really have all that loot spawn from enemies. Total Dark Souls clone.

And the corpse recovery to return your souls whatever, along with what appears to be summonable red phantoms samurai.

It's more a cross between Ninja Gaiden and Dark Souls. My immediate impression was a more slow-paced Ninja Gaiden.

Will be following this.

Actually there are few of theses things in last Onimusha like 3rd person view, magic attacks, counters, loot. I would say that Team Ninja took some inspiration from both of these games. People comparing character from Nioh are of course also ignoring one of characters from last Onimusha - Tenkai.

Oh, cool. Never played Dawn of Dreams but I knew the setting was at leaset Onimusha inspired.

Also it was vaporware over decade. I guess it could be initially inspired by Onimusha and much later by other games like Soul series. Still I would say its probably mix of both if not more.

Right, I recall hearing it being announced in 2004 or something for the PS3? Since the first Dark Souls came out way later, I can only assume they pulled a Duke Nukem Forever and started from scratch multiple times.

Dark Souls + Onimusha sounds pretty rad, honest.

Tenchu is stealth game. From also made something which is supposed to be Ninja Gaiden clone or inspired game but sadly its pretty much Ninja Gaiden 3 prototype.

Definitely looks like a Onimusha/Souls hybrid. Could be interesting.

PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
hahahhahahaha

- Screen turns grey when you die
- almost the exact same item selection sounds
- close to the same UI
- save point that looks like a bonfire
- same brain dead enemy AI
- soul looking stuff fly out of dead bodies into you

If it was just a gameplay copy of a souls game with a new setting, it would be cool.

this game completely apes the art style of dark souls though. Ninja Theory has no shame.

Hey, if they can make a game of similar quality, more power to them. Plagiarism is only bad if your game sucks. :M

Fixed that for you. For some reason some people still cant see difference between Ninja Theory which is independent studio located in United Kingdoms and Temco Koei Japanese subsidiary Team Ninja.

Wow, this game is actually amazing. I'm quite surprised. I love it.
That you can instantly die if you're not careful is nice. You have to be on your toes all the time.

Yeah, although armor does seem to be pretty important. I got my ass whooped in 1-2 hits (1 hit if the enemy manages to hit me in the back) with the beginner clothes, but after finding 3 pieces of armor I can tank 3 hits before dying. Right now I'm trying to mess around with the system to learn the pros and cons of the stances. I'm trying to figure out what you're supposed to do with the Low Stance since the damage you do with it sucks. My guess is that it's a technical stance while Mid Stance is more Hack & Slashy and High Stance is for precises heavy attacks.
