Having another problem. How do I stop my idiot companions from switching weapons? My main guy keep switching to a two-hander, and for some reason, the other character I'm controlling at the moment also switch to the same weapon but it is invisible??? What is going on here?

Remove other weapons from their inventory, you can tell them to stop using melee/ranged weapons but they'll switch between melee weps or ranged weps. So just remove all weapons from their inventory.

Yeah, but really want to sell those weapons. Anyway I figured it out, think it's part of the AI mod. You have to tag the weapons and make them unavailable for switching. Problem solved I guess.

Pounded through Hordes of the Underdark finally, and knocked out half of the "official" DLC.

Have to say so far most of that DLC is half ass shit that was released way too fast. However there are always a few points that on each of them that are decent.

Working on Pirates then Wyvern crown of cormyr. Not sure if I am gonna do Hexa Coda and the other unreleased one (heard it's long). I'm really getting the itch to move onto NWN2.

NWN2 looks so amazing after spending months digging through NWN :P

Pirates is kinda meh, it's a somewhat distracting romp through a pirate-themed fun house, but it's not really a pirate adventure. Go play Swordflight.

Completed Wyvern Crown of Cormyr, early Sunday evening. Really enjoy this module was so far the best released DLC I have played, generally the whole structure was well done, decently written, nice new titlesets, great sound design, puzzles, and decent quest design.

However I can see why some people really thought this was amazing when it came out, and also why many hated it. The horses as always are amazing, but fuck that ass hat menu, and have to stand close to your horse bullshit. Also I swear the more I play NWN the more I get stuck in doors, going backwards into loading zones or stuck on shit.

Some days you just want to walk forward with getting stopped by grass.

Anyways moving onto Hexa Coda, very different so far!

I feel like a popup ad but since no one else on Codex seems to appreciate it, you should try Baldercan's modules (Cave of Songs -> Honor Among Thieves and/or The Prophet). The Prophet is the pinnacle of NWN modules.

Honestly, my theory is that most Codexers are bums too lazy to download C.E.P. to run The Prophet.

Swordflight is the pinnacle of NWN modules, not The Prophet lol. The Prophet is ...good-ish, kind of a convoluted plotline, but whatevs. It's nowhere near Swordflight, however.

Swordflight is maybe #4 for me... but I didn't play Chapter 2. Still, it would take a lot of improvement to convince me that it belongs in the same conversation as Aielund and ADwR, and neither of those is on Prophet's level.

I feel like those are the five must-play NWN module classics. There are other entertaining, innovative and great modules (Festerpot's wizard modules) but the quality of these five are apparent.

I have tried the Prophet, and while I enjoyed the Cave of Songs & Honor among Thieves (despite the buggy scripts), Prophet was a fail. I got only as far as the elven tree "city" (I don't remember which part it was), before giving up on it. There were just too many empty-ish areas with boring encounters before, so when I arrived at the city I expected some interesting conversations, side plots etc. Instead it was a bunch of hovels filled with cardboard NPCs, with nothing to explore.

By comparison, Almraiven and Swordflight 2 had citites that actually felt alive, and Excrucio Eternum had a far more memorable plot.

The elven city isn't really far enough to appreciate the game, you had to keep going. No spoilers, but there's a place in Chapter 1 that you have to get to, and once you get there the module starts to make sense.

But the best fights and dungeons in the series are in Chapter 2, and what makes Prophet greater than either Aielund and ADwR (both of which are amazing) is the conclusion in Chapter 3. So you just have to keep going.

Baldecaran's strengths are plot and dungeons. Since I had done Cave of Songs first, I knew Baldecaran's dungeons are fantastic. Chapter 2 has the most perfect dungeon. You are right, that there isn't a great "hub" city (a la BG2, Aielund and ADwR) in Chapter 1; there is a hub city to explore in Chapter 2- but again, that isn't Baldecaran's strength, and the Prophet doesn't have many side quests (besides the Chapter 2 dungeon which is optional).

Almraiven has the most realistic representation of a city in a NWN module, but it doesn't have Prophet's plot.

I'm not sure why you would give up on a module before finishing it, so early too, especially one that is so highly regarded.

I see you don't mention Honor Among Thieves. It really felt very empty (as levels and atmosphere) for me, especially compared to ADwR. Maybe this is because I never tried THe Prophet and Cave of Songs.

I can't think of any user-made campaign that can come close to Swordflight.

It's for those players with a refined taste, presupposing some experience with traditional, classic RPGs and demanding a dedication from the player that most RPGs these days will shy away from, due to casual backlash.

I've had a lot of fun with all aspects of its design, from the combat to the role-playing and exploration. It's the taut systems employed that give me the immersive D&D adventuring that I don't see anywhere, anymore. I think Rogueknight did a lot of number-crunching, or he's just really intuitive, to churn out the kind of fine-tuned combat scenarios that we see here. I thought Chapter 3 had some of the best of these; I was so proud of my pally.

The Prophet isn't really my cup of tea but I think the Cave of Songs might be the best starting-point module for a new player, since Aielund is a big undertaking and Snow Hunt requires decent knowledge of systems.

Yes, since there are many, many great or interesting NWN mods and even mods worth playing (Honor Among Thieves, Almraiven, Hex Coda, etc... being one of those) but Prophet, Aielund, ADwR and Swordflight (I'm taking Lilura's word here) are masterpieces on another tier overall (even if they might have some warts).

Crimson Tides of Tethyr (NOT Siege of Shadowdale- SoS is pedestrian, it's simply listed since it's Alazander's starter module for CToT) isn't a masterpiece on the level of the other four, but it's still a complete and worthwhile adventure of epic length, with good plot twists, fun battles and a terrific conclusion. It's also historically important since it really set the bar for NWN modules when it came out (it's much earlier than the other four).

Cave of Songs is easily my favorite NWN starter module. If you start with a lvl 1 character the challenge is a bit brutal at the start but not impossible, and the dungeon is gorgeous. But I wouldn't consider it a masterpiece since all said and done it's just a dungeon crawl.

Five is a good number for must-play classics. I guess you could lop off CToT for a true four. There are many NWN modules that innovate and exemplify NWN, but Prophet, Aielund and ADwR transcend NWN.

Why haven't I seen much talk about Tortured Hearts?

For the same reason you haven't seen much talk on a whole host of Hall of Fame modules: there are just not many people playing them, let alone commentating on them. It's a real shame.

That sucks, it looks great. I been playing through a lot lately, and looking for some the bigger modules.

Because having to force myself through (otherwise empty) areas with boring fights, just to reach an "interesting conclusion" to a story that failed to interest me in the first place is not my idea of fun. A good mod is fun as you are playing it, not just after a certain point; enjoy your boredom until then. By comparison, I've enjoyed the Cave of Songs because of the great atmosphere (music & visuals), and the nice dungeon crawl, but the story itself wasn't that amazing.

I honestly don't care about ratings, AdwR is another "highly rated" module that I wouldn't recommend unless you want cheesy porn. (and even then, considering Skyrim's dubious modding scene, they probably have more advanced animations)
