Hopefully they've optimised the engine better as well. M&B and Warband were not particularly well optimised.
How so? I've never had performance issues, even on my old pc.

The engine didn't count on high volumes or high resolutions being used. If you look at the native assets, there aren't that many and they're pretty tiny. Learning how to optimize graphics was crucial when we made TLD, since we had several times more items and assets than native.
(MnB even had an item limit, believe it or not, which we overshot by like a 100 and had to strip down. This cap was removed in Warband, which also added a Load Textures on Demand functionality. It's pretty good now actually, for a game that old.)

They've got a bigger team now and have probably learnt a lot of lessons, so hopefully M&B2 will have even more engine improvements.

TL;DR - Modding capabilities will be greatly expanded in the engine even surpassing warband.
I hope they can mod some blood and gore in.

Like the decapitations in Vikings? :)

All heads turn bald though, I guess you have to pretend you scalp them at the same time ;)

I keep seeing all these screens and clips with the faction icons hovering over all the soldiers. I don't know how anyone else feels about it, but my enjoyment of Warband increased significantly once I turned those off and left them off. Originally I turned them off because they slowed down the game, but after a couple of battles without them I could never stand playing with them on anymore, speed or no speed.

Just a tip for anyone who hasn't tried M&B without faction icons. Turn 'em off.

Damn hard to see enemy from friend, except when you get a hammer to your head. But I agree, looks better, more immersion. Especially combined with first person.

It would be nice if more troops would wear uniforms so that you could tell them apart without the icons.

So beta in 2017 and release in 2019.
Original MnB beta was pretty playable, I bought it for like 2$ back in 0.619 and gameplay differed only marginally from the release version, it took them a lot to tweak campaing mode

To me the hazard of friendly fire is part of the game. It forces you to be more selective and cautious when shooting projectiles. Since you can't hit friendlies with melee attacks, it's not an issue there.
