    Somehow I missed this little interview about Sword of Islam on Destructoid. Apparantly there will be extra music DLC released at the same time as Sword of Islam and the 1.06 patch. That's in addition to rumors floating around there will be some cosmetic DLC that might be coming as well. Guess we'll know tomorrow when Sword of Islam is to be released.

    EDIT: A little google-fu shows that in addition to Sword of Islam there will also be an African Unit Pack and an extra music DLC named Songs of the Caliph released tomorrow.

    A fucking scam is what it is.
    Put in a limited number of songs so people get sick of hearing the same, over and over and you're $$Winning$$

    This sort of stuff really pisses me off, becouse i too was on the verge of buying those packs for more variation, but i refuse to go for it.
    It's a good thing their games are good and enjoyable, so its forgivable.

    It's not forgivable. It's shit. What really irks me however is that the music packs only play when you're playing as a specific culture or region. Meaning that even when you buy into the scam you'll never hear all of the music of the various music packs but instead only a few numbers at best in addition to the regular soundtrack.

    At least the SoI DLC seems to be full of win.

    Yes. Sure.
    But since there isn't much released these days that is actually worth playing (or to my liking for that matter), i have the tendency to get excited or lightly emotional (In W2's case for example), and tend to condone these kind of practices.
    It's a flaw, i know, but using common sence, i come to the conclusion that it indeed is utter shit, as i stated initially.

    Also, the music playing for specific cultures or regions is just what i suspected.
    Maybe they put it somewhere, but i missed it. Thanks for confirming that anyway.

    Nevertheless i will get SoI. The content looks promising.

    SoI seems to be a winner. African unit stuff is merely cosmetic and only affects units. For portraits I can heartily recommend the Better Looking Characters mod as it improves the look of these a tenfold. Hope the modder will quickly update it for 1.06. There are also some mods out there that make all music playable all the time btw. Or at least there were. I'll have a look.

    EDIT: Seems you can easily add your own music. Or edit the DLC to play for all cultures.

    The songs are located in:

    Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\music

    But they're all .ogg files... so how do we do this?

    So you want some new songs
    1. Get the mp3 of the song you want. Unless for whatever reason you want to play CK2 to the guitar solo in "Ride the Lightning", you can probably fill your playlist with fitting music that's very much in the public domain. Like "written 700 years ago" public domain.

    2. Convert that mp3 to a .ogg file using this, which is quite clean and easy to use: http://media.io/

    3. Drop that .ogg file into the music folder I mentioned earlier.

    4. Now go into the text file "songs.txt" in that same music folder. Now you have to add your .ogg to the playlist. For every song in the playlist you will see a string of characters that looks like this:

    song = {
    name = "thelastcrusade_finale.ogg"

    chance = {
    modifier = {
    factor = 1
    }

    }
    }

    Simply copy +paste that one time for each song you're adding. Then just go in and replace the duplicated .ogg line with the name of the file you've added. And that's it, you're done. I would then go into the game and use the console command "nextsong" to cycle through until your new songs play, just to make sure they're working well. The ones I have added fit in very very nicely with the rest of the soundtrack and the volume has been just at the right level. One song did crash my game somehow, so I simply went back and deleted it and the line from the text document. Well actually I just changed the "1" to a "0" because i'm incredibly lazy, but yeah.

    The DLC music is in the DLC folder with the .txt in a zip. Either copy the music to the music folder and do the above or edit the .txt to play for other cultures as well. ie add factor = 1

    EDIT 2: It's all out on steam as well. 14 euro for all the new DLC.

    Insert clever insult here
    I was about to rage at Trash until I read on and found that second post. Yes, it's extremely simple to mod in your own music in all Clausewitz-games. I was unaware that CK2 used .ogg as EU, HOI and Vicky use .mp3. Similarly, if you buy the music DLCs, you can easily edit the .txt file that came with them so that they play to all nations.
