Despite what I said earlier, it looks like weapons get their unique design after upgrading them into their high rank (or end game) counterpart. The "disappointing" weapon upgrades with monster skin slapped on them are only the low rank or initial high rank versions, so I was happy to see many of the Charge Blade trees ending with good looking results. I'm not so sure this was them cutting corners, as it might just be a deliberate (albeit uninspired) design choice to show progression. I haven't extensively looked at every weapon tree though, so I'm curious to know if this applies across the board.

Unfortunately, high rank armors don't look very diverse at the onset. Most of the early options (both alpha and beta) look exactly the same as their low rank counterparts, with a slightly different color scheme. The only noticeable difference between them is higher defense, additional skills, and gem slots (alpha has additional skills/beta has more gem slots). There are a few early exceptions (like the Anjanath set), but you wont see unique beta versions for low rank designs until you can take down some of the tougher monsters. The high rank exclusive designs seem to have unique beta sets, and I think all of the apex predators have unique beta sets as well (can be acquired as soon as you enter high rank). Regardless, the armor design variation should definitely be improved upon in the future.

Aside from one elder dragon all of the fights were bloody amazing for MH game. And if this is what we can expect from high rank then i definitely want to see new elder dragons in G-rank.

I hope it's not Vaal Hazak, since I'm looking forward to fighting it. What did you think about World's Deviljho replacement, Bazelgeuse? I was surprised to immediately encounter one on my second high rank expedition, since I wasn't paying attention to the monster list (intended to hunt Odogaron). The first one I fought flew away (got it limping, but wasted my shock trap just before), so I kept looking for expeditions where it appeared until I eventually captured three, since I can't outright kill it yet. This was the first monster to consistently one shot me, but it's also lot of fun to fight when other large monsters enter the frey, since it explodes everything in sight. So many broken monster parts without any effort...

Bazelgeuse? Yeah he is party pooper o'right in same way Devilho was. Unlike most of monsters in game he is fucking relentless and attacks player at first sight and have few very nasty lunges that can use outright from start.

I like him.

I'm not so sure this was them cutting corners

It is obvious that they had to cut corners somewhere to release game that has more content than Tri and don't cut on weapons because each weapon is like hundreds of different weapons if they would go with previous MH designs.

And you can see that weapon tree models are "in developement" because there are a lot of cases in it that doesn't make any sense.

Like most of weapons have something like Wapon I then Weapon II and weapon III and there is barely any difference or no difference at all like in previous mh games with weapon+.

But then you see Nergigante weapons and almost all of them very VERY differently between each tier. Nergigante weapon 1 is completely different than upgrade.

Question is why ? If they would follow their normal design then Nergigante wouldn't even need separate model, just rework of base weapon and like rest upgrade handle or something and yet there are two completely different models for almost each weapon for those two tiers.

And this is not only the weird thing about trees. Some of weapons even final forms don't change at all from base version look.
Some of weapons do not follow completely "upgrade" but change completely for some reason.

Looking at things like that it is obvious that they simply did not have resources to handle 14 weapons and shitload of weapons they would need to make so instead they focused on delivering weapons and plugging hole in assets with "upgrade" system to get people weapons instead of cutting them like for MHTri.

I don't think MHW G expansion will change that. G version usually didn't change fundamental designs behind each MH so MHW2 is where i expect they will change that to their old fantastic design once they will build up resources.

Same way they cut corners with Monsters. Lavasioth-Jurratodus, Radobaan-Uragan, Odogaron-Tobikadachi. Rathian-pink rathian, rathalos-azure rathalos.

They are share animations for many things. It is obvious that Capcom didn't know if this will perform well so they didn't focus on it like on MH4 (capcom expected only 1,5mln copies at launch) so they played conservative and instead they focused on building technology instead of content.

At the end of the day MHW is still big game and only lacks a bit of content to match something like vanilla MH4 which is still good in my book and with all their mechanical changes etc. i really want to see monster hunter world 2 with size of something like MH4Ultimate.

I hope it's not Vaal Hazak, since I'm looking forward to fighting it.

It is. But my point is that fight was awesome but it wasn't that hard at least for my choice of weapon (funlance)

More hearsay from the internet, but each weapon type should have, on average, about 6 unique models, except the Hunting Horn which has the least amount. Looking at the HR SnS models that I have unlocked, I'm not sure if it's that low, but it certainly is lower than in previous games. The lack of good looking weaponry is a detriment to me enjoying the game, unfortunately. As Perkel said before, the weapons and armor are trophies, and it's just no fun when the trophies look so dull. They used to be colorful and fun to look at. Maybe it was deliberate as you said, but it is a very bad thing for the game no matter what the reason for it to be like this.

Bros, I'm having a couple of problems here. First, I can't bring myself to use any weapons but the Winsect Glaive. Everything else feels like either a chore to use revolving around insane timing (I suck obvs), or is just sluggish in comparison. The IG, on the other hand, lets me twirl around in the air like Barishnokov on meth, heal the bros, buff myself, mount enemies, use my bug bro for some extra damage, and attack at the speed of sound (which I think is good for added Ele Damage?). Also, would I be better off going for Status Dust over healing dust, even in a group? I kinda like having Blunt Damage for the possibility of a Stun when I shoot a load on a monster's face.

Second, this game is turning me into a raving lunatic, and I'm cursing through my teeth when these motherfuckers don't give me their Elemental Sacs. Keep thinking about shit I wanna do, things I wanna kill, then Big Anj comes along and fucks my shit up with some dubious hitboxes, and I'm frothing at the mouth, REFUSING to become his bitch. :argh:[I carted twice in the fight, but I killed him anyway - just HATE dying so much, even though it has little penalty]

Also, is ele resist more important than defense for bosses like him and Rathian? Or is 1 Defense = 1 Fire Resist?

I'm completely sucked in, men.

It is a lot lower. Problem here is that this design of modifying weapons is not only applied to handles but blades as well.
In case of SnS you can see that in some cases only sheld changes while blade doesn't.
And like i said in my previous post even some of the final forms are just like previous 5 upgrades.

It is obvious they run out of budget they proposed for game and they had to do something. Either cut content, meaning fewer weapons or do something creative about it and get all of those weapons but cut down on assets.

As for tech tree itself it is Generations system type of tree just laid down in different UI but mechanically it is the same.

So it is not fault of tech tree itself but rather lack of content as Generation weapon tree system was just overflowing with shitload of trees to point where even at low rank for one weapon you had 50-60 possible weapon models.

Their concept also isn't that bad. I would love to see some weapons "evolve" as you upgrade them. But when you have choice to have 100 weapon models vs 10 which you upgrade i'd rather take those 100 because like you said this is trophy and i want that trophy.

I'm completely sucked in, men.

Nothing wrong with liking just one weapon. I was like that too. Once you get your dose of your favorite weapon you will start to experiment and you will see charm of other weapons.

My first main weapon was longsword because it was least idiotic looking weapon from most of MH weapons back in MHFU, then i changed to sword and shield because moveset of longsword after a while got boring and this was my new main for next 2 games.

Once MH4U came i against started with SnS but i got bored to death by it so i changed to Lance and i told to myself i will give that weapon a fair shake. It didn't click with me for first few hours but once i "got it" and what is essence of that weapon it clicked with me and this was my new main.

After than i just asked myself. There is gunlance. It is lance with a gun ? How fun is that ? Similar case, didn't like it at start but i spend some time with it and my main weapon changed to gunlance.

Today gunlance is my main weapon but i no longer have problems with using other weapons. Each have their own thing for them and it is pretty easy to find 2-3 weapon you can like and switch between.

If you want something agile then you can try the SnS or DB. SnS does Impact and Cutting damage so you can KO monsters and cut tails.

As for Elemental / Status Sacs, I know what you mean. I have plates and gems coming out of my ears, which are 1 star drops, but Sacs? Fucking nada. Saw other people complain about this so maybe it's a bug. OTOH there *is* a remedy for this. You get a shitload of Sacs from doing Safaris. Like, if you see a monster that can drop a Sac in the Safari, then you are almost always guaranteed 1-4 Sacs. That's how I grind mine now.

The lack of weapon variety is the worst for the lance, because there are very few weapons with unique shields. the entire water line is the bone lance but tinted darker. At least the end game weapons are unique, and in the end, that's the most important thing. The lack of variation in weapons is disappointing but if I had to choose between more armor sets, more weapon types and more unique weapon models, I'd pick weapon types and armor sets without hesitation.

Had the first classic monster hunter experience of grinding for a entire armor set and weapon for the sole purpose of making the Kushala fight less irritating. it's one of the only monsters in the series that is impossible to lance because those goddamn tornados.

If anyone wants to hunt, add me

I got the fucking water sac for a delivery quest after 50 hours of gameplay and various monster captures.
And yeah, got it from a safari...

Edit:
BTW I think I "mined" a Radobaan last night, when he was down I tried to collect some parts I broke from it but my character used his pickaxe for some dragonbone relic at its back O_o

Any tips for using crossbows? Need some help for unleashing their potential.

Special ammunition. Generally speaking you should even use normal ammunition, it is used only as last resort weapon.

Heavy Bowguns - They can carry the most amount of ammunition and use widest range of ammunition. And they have special attack either that minigun which unloaded on face does outstanding amount of damage or sniper shot which can take down flying monsters no problem and stagger or straight up lie flat monster for a while if properly aimed.

With heavy bowguns you generally want to place yourself in position where you can fire properly your cluster bombs. Properly hit they can do shitload of damage and with heavy bowgun you can take a lot of those shots.

Then you go down to second best according to monster you fight. Flies a lot or armored ? Sticky. Weak to elemental damage ? elemental shots, have some really squshy parts ? Spread from close range. It is big monster or especially long ? Pierce ammo and let shot get through widest/longest possible angle of monster.

You can use status shots like paralyze etc but this is not their ante and don't expect much.

Attach A SHIELD. It is really good and has auto guard. Meaning when you don't use any action or shoot it will automatically block any attack from front.

Ligh bowguns - Rapid fire and mobility. This is where status shots are the best. Rapid fire uses one ammuniton of something to shot multiple times according to which bowgun you are using. Any bowgun with status rapid fire will very quickly add up status damage and paralyze, sleep, poison etc monster in no time.

Mobility is important because you don't have shield and your hits don't hit as hard so you need to target more of those squishy parts which means you need to move around much more.

So prime tactic here is to get status on monster like paralyze and use strongest ammo, sleep bomb etc on monster as fast as you can using that window of oppotunity.

In both cases use them as slinger. Paratoads ? hit them, boulders ? Flashflies etc.

Don't be the insufferable bowgun faggot that staggers everyone with slicing ammo and cluster bombs during combat. Hammers getting stuns and LS users getting their stacks is a way higher priority than that extra DPS

Nergigante was walling me hard until I soloed him.
Because some JP hunters kept joining and triple carting my room. What the fuck? It feels like JP players are the new je suis montè.
Dunno if anyone else noticed, but slicing his tail and smashing his horns felt almost impossible online, but extremely easy solo. Breaks were always harder online, obviously, but Nergigante seems bugged.

Yes try to thing about what other people are doing. Don't use spread ammo if you are away from monster and there are people before you.
Don't use cluster ammo needlesly when you don't know if you hit for 100%.
Head and legs is place where blademasters concentrate you should target other squishy parts like wings tails etc blademasters can't hit properly.

I personally used sleep bombing for his horns and i use gunlance so i don't care about hard parts much. Hows the fight ? Did you notice progression in fight ?

I like the fight. It's not impossibly hard, but he's no pushover. He has a few punishing moves, one which is telegraphed and the other which I still haven't figured out (when he body slams to his side while grounded). He's moderately weak to all status effects so I come in with poison to chip away at his huge health pool and let my cat handle sleep. Radobaan weapon on cats gives me a consistent sleep each hunt which is insane, so I stopped using a sleep status weapon myself. What do you mean by progression in the fight?

As the fight progresses the harder he gets.
He gets hardest when he starts to limp

And it is not exclusive to him but all Elder Dragons. You can especially see that with Teostra.

Oh, yeah. All monsters get more aggressive and are more prone to rage mode the less HP they have. Nergigante, much like Blos, just have more HP so the period gets stretched out. Since this is based on a percentage of HP left, it gets amplified when playing online as they get about 2.4x more HP. Just have to play it safe with Nerdgigante and take less chances when he's low on HP and you should be fine, just as always.

Just spent the whole last evening grinding Legiana so I could make his sword & shield since it looked pretty cool. Hopefully elemental damage wont fail me again in this game. Otherwise I'll just craft a stupid Bone or Nergi SnS for high raw.. as usual.

After playing for nearly 70 hours just realized that some weapons elementals effects/afflicitons are hidden and I need some armor skill to unlock their full potantial...

I've been playing around with the bowguns yesterday (so far mostly bow with a little bit charge blade now and then).

What do you guys prefer; light or heavy blowgun?

Firing only one one of slice ammo before having to reload annoys me with the light bowgun. On the other hand I like placing the land mines and melee/shoot the thing to do big damage. And I love the mobility.

Heavy is cool because of the special ammo, cluster bombs and bigger ammo capacity. I can't stand the slow movement speed though.

Additional question; how do I see if a monster is poisoned? Light blowgun is supposed to be all about status effects but have so far not played around with paralysis/poison/sleep etc much.
