This is a small mod guide created with intent to add more C&C and deeper role playing elements to Fallout: New Vegas. New Vegas does a decent job of adding skill checks and choice throughout the wasteland, but it has some flaws this modlist rectifies that. Note this only gameplay mods if you want tips/modlist about graphic mods go to another modlist Sigourn has a fine-ass modlist http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/inde...t-new-vegas-sigourns-recommended-mods.114486/, or http://wiki.step-project.com/User:Essarrbee/FalloutNewVegas.

First we start off with Jsawyer Ultimate, which I believe that is fundamentally how the game was suppose to play.
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/61592/?tab=posts
Jsawyer is a collection changes and edits that changes how the game work, you maybe saying duh and you're probably correct. perks are changed to make them better or less broken, unarmed and melee are standalone so you don't have to raise both at the same time, you can use whet stones to restore broken bladed weapons, and etc. It's the small things that count.

Next we have Cirosans Classic Overhaul, A mod that overhauls the special system to have a greater influence on player skill.
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/44027/
I suggest the gameplay and perks addons, the rebalance is kinda booty. The gameplay addon makes Charisma and Perception actually do stuff instead of being a measly stat that's only used to get better criticals or sniper like perception (It's useless above 6 since it does very little and both perks only require 6 to begin with). Charisma now influence how many followers you could have like in fallout 2, and tag skills work in the same way that fallout 1 and 2 did.
NOTE: You need to make a bashed patch or merge patch to run it with Jsawyer Ultimate, but both are very easy to do and you should be doing it in the first place.

Furthermore we have Immersive minigames, it removes the tedium or constantly save scumming for picking locks and hacking terminals.
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/58246/?
Must have for those who hate shitty minigames, it even retains the old way to if you like torturing yourself.

Moreover we have classic fallout weapons, It adds a bunch of weaponry from fallout 1 and 2 in the game.
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/37002
I personally think these weapons are great, the design is timeless and fits the game world.

Next we have Classic Fallout Music,
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/55833/?tab=posts
These sound timeless and great Mark Morgan did an excellent job, and they fit well to the game to.

Next we have classic dialogue options, It remove the tags to skill checks to make decisions harder.
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/40285/
The best thing about this mod it will let you hear the dialogue for failed skill checks and unless you look on a guide you wont know what dialogue options are the best.

Furthermore we have Too many quest markers, which remove unnecessary quest markers and encourage exploration.
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/41836
This mod removes the popamole quest markers for the most obvious quest (The ones the game tells you about) doing so encourage thinking.

Additionally we have Pickpocket Overhaul, which changes pickpocketing to include perception.
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/63396
Makes perception more useful as a stat and makes pickpocketing harder, what's more to love?

Next we have Cover Based Stealth, this mod makes cover an important part of sneaking.
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/51777/
No longer you can sneak in broad daylight in the distance from npcs, now you must find cover in order to truly stay undetected.

Lastly we have two mods, Combat Enhancer and Enhanced NPC awareness.
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/58431/?
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/63425
They make Enemies react realistically to the player presence, the ai will be smarter, more alert, and more difficult to fight. They do a solid job increasing the complexity and difficulty of combat.

Jsawyer Ultimate is definitely a mod I recommend. That modder knows what he is doing.

Cirosans Classic Overhaul looks interesting, but it makes so many changes that it's hard for me to estimate. So it scares me a bit. Can anyone who has used it in conjuction with JSawyer Ultimate talk about the end result? Is it even better than if I use JSawyer alone? Why?

I have played for 2 hours with Jsawyer Ultimate and Classic Perk module of CCO. It works without a trouble for me.

Also for OP, I suggest No Dialogue Tags mod over classic dialogue options. https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/62051

No Dialogue Tags dynamically removes all brackets ('[ ]') and contained text via scripts, which in theory is a good solution - except that it doesn't detect the difference between Skill Checks and Player Actions contained by brackets.

e.g. both of these strings would be removed from their respective dialogue snippets:
[Speech: 80]
[Punch him in the face]
Not just the former.

This mod is disastrous for Dead Money, which consistently uses brackets for player actions.
Classic Dialogue Options is the superior solution, which removes the skill check indicators manually.
Holy shit, really? I gotta ask one of TTW-team member, because this mod were made by one of them.

What do you think of Pillars of Eternity if you think that Sawyer "knows what he's doing?"/

I was actually talking about PTWB, the modder who made JSawyer *Ultimate* (which has some improvements over the classic JSawyer mod). But yes, the original JSawyer mod is the best thing that happened to New Vegas after its release.

PoE was good enough, but it was no BG2. The JSawyer mod is my favorite Sawyer's piece of work.

Well, I only played it with the Sawyer mod, so I don't know how it is without it, but it feels like because of the reduced level cap you hit it faster? Or is it about the same because of the XP changes?
Meh, I was capped for like half of the game and it got terribly boring and ended up not finishing it.

You level much slower with the JSawyer mod. Levels have increased XP requirements, and quests give decreased XP rewards. Compare the level XP requirements in your game with the official level XP. If they are the same, there is something amiss in your setup.

If you used energy weapons, the problem is probably the headshot achievement bug (giving you 100 XP for each headshot, levelling you up quickly), which is a problem that exists since the vanilla game. In this case, use a mod to disable the achievement.

Okay, serious question: Is there a mod that makes NV look like early 3D FPP games? (Build engine, Daggerfall, etc.) So, low-polygonal 3d meshes for buildings and terrain and sprites for NPCS?

I've always played with it unless mods conflicted.

His mod is so minor I find it odd that it's such a big thing to a lot of people for or against and it's pretty sad it had to be an ingame option.

It's a rebalancing mod, basically. It is Sawyer we are talking about, after all. It did deliver major rebalancing, which saved the game for me.

But yes, half my brain is grateful that the mod exists, and the other half is angry that it wasn't part of the ultimate edition. But I eventually got what I want, even in the form of a semi-official mod, so I should not be complaining.

If I may suggest a mod I made myself: Companions Require Ammo. It does what it says, very much in the style of the classic games. In the case of ED-E I nerfed his laser attack (too OP), and supplying him with Energy Cells brings his laser attack back to normal values. Other than this mod, there's nothing I have to suggest from my mod list.

I'm working on a mod guide for my blog and I am trying to find as many niche mods that encourage C&C and improve on basic game elements. It will probably be like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas with a larger focus on rpg elements.

Yeah companion ammo use is a good mod, but Cirosans Classic Overhaul follower tweaks already has that. It also limits companion use to charisma making charisma more than a dump stat.

I'm pretty sure you can tweak the game to ultra shitty quality if you really want to

you can find an enclave armor in vanilla new vegas, you just have to pick a fight with some deathclaws.
Vanilla enclave power armor isn't this bulky and mod doesn't "add" anything it just makes power armors more like space marines.

For that "classic" Fallout feel, it should be turn-based and isometric. Anything else is adding sugar to a barrel of shit, one spoonful at a time.
