The E3 trailer made me hunt down the recent gameplay previews. I loved the stealth gameplay in GZ, and it easily has the best moment-to-moment gameplay in the series, but I'm concerned about the structure of the game based on what I'm reading.

I hated the pacing of Portable Ops because it was broken up into separate missions. A continuous sneaking mission, as was the case in MGS 1-3 (Plant chapter for 2 and the Snake Eater mission for 3), gave those games a far better sense of place than the games that followed. Such a structure also allowed the level designers to make creative use of interconnected levels that were not accessible until later in the game. Some previews were claiming (hopefully wrongly) that one might have to do a handful of repetitive side missions each time one wants to progress through the meaty story missions. If this is indeed true, it brings back bad memories of Assassin's Creed 1's structure.

The other concern I have is regarding the Base Management, and whether that is going to dictate one's actions while stealthing around. I always play MGS games with the intention of ghosting through entire areas without kills, alerts, no tranquilizer usage and minimal gadget use. The Pokemon collect-a-soldier aspects of Portable Ops and Peace Walker negatively impacted the way I like to approach stealth games since the game was encouraging me to capture soldiers, etc. to speed up base building, whereas my preferred way to play these games is to leave every soldier untouched.

Volgin is not that bad. There are other bosses in the series that are way more lame.

That's ok, it's 2015. He can just check the console for your credit card details instead.

It would be funny if the game actually tried to make a point about that stuff and read something inconsequential that most players had no idea was being stored on their console or Konami account, to freak them out.

Like that time Helena from Resident Evil 6 turned to the camera and said "Ed123, I want to be your waifu, please protect me from the SJWs"

I don't know how Capcom programmed that in there, it was amazing.

This is going to be the GOTY by a staggering margin. Probably the best game ever made. Get fucked non believers.
Don't know if you're being cheeky, but I agree with the first sentence. It looks like it's hitting all of the GoTY notes and better than everyone else. The story may be daft, and Kojima's writing undisciplined, but at least he tries to say something at all, which brings it closer to literary merit than most games. What do Twitcher 3 or Fallout 4 have to say? Core mechanics objectively better, more polished, and more developed than anything in AAA besides Batman and Bloodborne, if you count that as AAA. Best stealth of the year. Probably best/most creative boss fights. Base management. Gun porn. Probably most fleshed out AI. Most manipulable situations/dynamic scenarios. Best cinemajesty.

Of course, in terms of getting GoTY awards...Fallout 4 comes out this year, with it's superior template of limited, mediocre combat, stiff animations, and talking heads spitting retarded. dialogue.
You maybe be right but Konami isn't making games anymore and probably won't waste as much money bribing gamming "journos" as Bethesda will. When the first bags of ad money start rolling, no one will remember Witcher 3 or MGS V. Be prepared when Fallout 4 get the Best written game of 2015 prize like Fallout 3 did, the codex will be the only bastion of sanity on the internet.

Yes, it will be hilarious especially when The Witcher 3 gets pushed to the back of the bus. The game that all the reviews said was a leap forward for open world RPGs, that solved the problem of strong narrative in open world games (by claiming that this has been a problem for open world RPGs, they basically admit that Fallout 3 getting a writing prize is bullshit). The game that is based off of the work of an actual writer.

After watching most of the E3 trailers I was left utterly bored and disappointed. This is the only one that, despite Kojima's overly explicit and verbose explanations, made me remember why I actually fell in love with games in the first place.

I didn't understand anything about that trailer, and it showed no gameplay, just cutscenes.

I enjoyed Ground Zeroes, though.

There are numerous gameplay reveals from last year, and more importantly countless previews from magazines that got to play the first act of MGSV.

If you enjoyed GZ then hold onto your bananas, cause TPP is basically that game on Kojima Steroids.
