5? Not really. Nexus, Last Raven (with a strong note to play Nexus first as the difficulty is balanced around veterans+has bonus for importing save), 4A and VD seem to be the recommended ones.

Just keep playing Missionforce Cyberstorm since it's the best. MAKE THOSE BIODERMS CHASE THE DRAGON, STIM STIM STIM

I did notice you didn't play Cyberstorm 2 though. I'd recommend keeping it that way. Cyberstorm 2 and Deadlock 2 were both sequels I felt were worse than the originals. Bummed me out when I bought 'em back in the day since I liked the originals so much.

Cyber Knight and Cyber Knight 2 for the SNES.

I only played through some of the first one and it was mostly a JRPG with mechs, which you could upgrade slightly. It was actually pretty decent for a obscure SNES JRPG but nothing groundbreaking, though the encounter rate was super annoying. Cyber Knight 2, from what I've read, is a lot better in every aspect.

Lost Planet has some mech sections but nothing fancy.
You can detach/attach weapons from the VS (Vital Suits) and carry them on foot if you fancy but some section will force you to go by foot.

It could be worse actually. There's a sort-of competent game hiding under the horrifically bad user interface and absurdly unoptimized UE3 graphics.

I can't believe I forgot to mention Crescent Hawk's Revenge, that game is awesome and brutally difficult. One of the things I really like about it let's the tonnage go up very gradually over the course of the game, for a long time the biggest mech you have is 55t so when you see a real heavy at 75t it's a real oh shit. It's got a lot of variety in the missions too.

There was a nice (but incomplete) Civ4-mod that basically makes it a MechWarrior game, but I can't seem to find it anymore.

I've often thought a Mechwarrior themed mod for one of the paradox games could be fun.

I would second MegaMech, because it's pretty fun(multiplayer if you can do it): http://megamek.info/

Other than that, go big, go oldschool. Combine Battleforce/BF2 with Battletech/CityTek etc., planetary/solar system scale combat with tactical skirmishes. Tried it once, still having flashbacks.

There was this one for the SNES: Cybernator. Not a terrible game. They say to get the most out of it you should find the Japanese version Assault Suits Valken and patch it with the fanmade translation. I've never played the original so not sure how different it really is.

So, i'm playing Armored Core, starting with the first one 'cause why not. Cool gaym and everything, but one thing i can't seem to find any information on. What missions should i pick to make sure i get all of them? Right now i'm always starting with the mission that pays the least, but i wonder if maybe this isn't a mistake and some of the higher paid missions are going to disappear from the roster. I'm also guessing Chrome is the "evil" side of the game. Is picking missions indiscriminately going to affect anything?

Mech Assault 1 & 2 were surprisingly fun, but more like third-person shooters than mech simulators. Also, I believe that they were Xbox only (not sure what the state of Xbox emulation is).

And, while we're talking about Xbox titles, how can I not mention Metal Wolf Chaos?

Disclaimer: Haven't actually played the games in the series before AC2.

That said, I played through the others the same way as you, and simply reloaded my last save if I missed out on any missions. You could probably track down the perfect order in a guide on gamefaqs or something, but if you're trying to avoid missing any missions, presumably you're enjoying them enough that you won't mind replaying one here or there.

Besides, the series as a whole is really long. You'll almost certainly burn out long before you run out of new missions to play.

I suppose Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love kinda counts. It's some romance visual novel with mech battles in between using a combat system that vaguely reminded me of Valkyria Chronicles sometimes.

:desu:

I couldn't play it longer than a few hours (until some Mexican girl shows up) because the animu was off the charts and overwhelmed my patience, but I'm more than okay with the idea of games with that kind of strategic gameplay, and where the choices you make during the story segments and how you develop your friendship with the other characters have an effect in the battles.

So Long, My Love is such a shitty game. I think there's like... thirteen fights throughout the entire game, giving you one or two battles per chapter, and it's a roughly 20 hour game.

I guess i'll just keep doing what i'm doing. The missions are very brief so replaying them isn't a big deal. I don't plan of doing a perfect run for each game, just making the most on my first play through since i won't probably be back for a lot of them. I have all of them up until the last one made for PS2. I think i'll probably byte the bullet and get a PS3 eventually since it seems we won't get an emulator in our lifetime. If that happens i may look into the rest as well, even if i din't hear good things about 4 and 5. They are very easy games to get into once you get used to the controls, so for me this feels like going through Doom wads or something. When i get bored i'll stop than come back to it when i feel like it, not biggie.

If you can find a friend to play split screen with it's a lot of fun, much better than the missions. I only played Last Raven of the early ACs, from what I read it's generally regarded as the best from the early ACs.

Even better than split screen is linked system fights. Had those on the PS2, excellent fun. Though I dunno if the PS2 emulator can even do that shit.

Very pointless. Coop is a myth to begin with. It is how lonely nerds pretend they have an actual social life. But even when it happens there's no real cooperation. Its just people soloing together.
