Most excellent job so far!

I have enjoyed Realmz ever since 1.0 so many years ago. I've played it off and on throughout the years, up until...

*looks at Powerbook that has been a paperweight for over a year*

...Yeah. But, I have recently been trying to play again, and found this thread through my attempts to Google for a working character editor. If I had another Mac, I could just copy the files off the hard drive, which I imagine is still functional...

Oh, well. Hopefully I can get a Mac OS 9 emulator working on this silly Winderp machine and play this again, too. Darn it, I had planned to play TiSL, but you're making me want to go back to where it all began. Bywater... xD

Chapter 3, part 9: Cave Addiction

Eager to see what the new summoning spell has in store, we venture forth into the cave.

Realmz_000864-1.png

Realmz_000865.png

As is frequently the case in the Codex, we encounter trolls. Our Whip Scorpion stings and paralyzes one straight away.

Realmz_000866.png

Realmz_000041.png
As I survery the battlefield, glancing at my frail companions of the spell casting variety, I am suddenly struck with the realization that with my present, comparatively high HP, I am effectively a... meat shield.
Realmz_000040.png
Fancy that!

Realmz_000867.png

Realmz_000038.png
Malac, my dear colleague, please do not despair. For I offer unto you this act of succour in your time of need.

Realmz_000868.png

Realmz_000869.png

Realmz_000041.png
Delighted as I am to witness the appearance of another capable combatant on our side, I can't help but dread the coming wave of hideous monstrosities that will soon follow.

Realmz_000870.png

Realmz_000041.png
Already, I have found sleeping at night trying, being camped alongside giant crawlers and various ferocious beasts.

Realmz_000871.png

Realmz_000041.png
And now, I am supposed to sleep at night with this malignant apparition floating around?

Realmz_000872.png

Realmz_000873.png

Realmz_000874.png

Realmz_000040.png
Hey, look at the troll! It thinks we're its friends!
Realmz_000046.png
Ha! Ye can add a venomous troll to yer list of woes, pinky.
Realmz_000041.png
Forgive me as I lapse into catatonia; do wake me up when this hellish phantasmagoria is over.

Realmz_000875.png

Realmz_000878.png

Shortly thereafter, the last of the (hostile) trolls falls.

Realmz_000879.png

And now, in addition to the specter, we have a troll as a follower.
Realmz_000038.png
I think I'll call them Warren and Andrew.

Realmz_000880.png

Realmz_000881.png

For the first time after many fights, we come to rest unscathed, merely to replenish spell points.
Afterwards, we continue exploring to the east.

Realmz_000882.png

We come upon a shocking scene of animal abuse, and intervene without hessitation.

Realmz_000883.png

Realmz_000884.png

At this point, defeating the hill giants is child's play.

Realmz_000885.png

Realmz_000046.png
Heh, last one soiled himself and ran away when he saw the ghost.
Realmz_000038.png
Good boy, Warren.

Realmz_000886.png

Realmz_000041.png
Why can't these mountain-side passages ever lead to bustling towns full of pockets to pick? Why why why?

Realmz_000887.png

Realmz_000888.png

Realmz_000039.png
Watch out!

Realmz_000891.png

With half of the party rendered two dimensional by the boulders, combat ensues.

Realmz_000892.png

Realmz_000040.png
How dare you swat my precious Bee! I'll kill you all with my bare axe!

Realmz_000894.png

Andrew soon joins in on killing the infidels.

Realmz_000895.png

Realmz_000943.png
Are we fucked or what?

Realmz_000896.png

After the battle is won, we attempt to rest inside the cave, only to be interrupted by two avatars of atavism.

Realmz_000897.png

Realmz_000898.png

Nex immediately sets about conjuring another creature...

Realmz_000899.png

Realmz_000041.png
Someone please just put an arrow through my head.

Realmz_000900.png

The dinos are hardy and hard hitting, but go down without inflicting any casualties. Nevertheless, we decide to defer further exploration of the cave, seeing as that is the norm for random encounters, and go back outside.

Chapter 3, part 10: Terrorizing the Countryside

Realmz_000902.png

Realmz_000903.png

Realmz_000904.png

Veterans or not, it's feeding time for our host of horrors.

Realmz_000908.png

A new pet is summoned, and it is hungry as well.

Realmz_000910.png

We rest some more, and receive yet another special hill giant encounter.

Realmz_000911.png

Realmz_000039.png
We can't just let him die after slaying half of his clan, right?
Realmz_000041.png
I'm starting to wonder who the real monsters are in this campaign.

Realmz_000912.png

Realmz_000913.png

Realmz_000914.png

Realmz_000039.png
It's a good opportunity to head back to Bywater and do some trading.

Realmz_000916.png

Realmz_000917.png

Realmz_000041.png
Huzzah!

We head back to town, sell various items and purchase others at the old woman's shop.

Realmz_000918.png

Realmz_000038.png
Ooh, I love red!

Realmz_000919.png

(this gives Nex +75 spell points)

Realmz_000954.png

eklektyk scribes a few useful scrolls. (Adrenalin, in particular - basically a scroll of Haste)
Following that, we revisit the Pentagram in the Kobold caves.

Realmz_000955.png

Realmz_000956.png

Realmz_000947.png

Realmz_000957.png

Realmz_000040.png
What could possibly go wrong?

Realmz_000949.png

Realmz_000950.png

Realmz_000038.png
Insolent wretch! Minions, attack!

Realmz_000958.png

Realmz_000959.png

Realmz_000039.png
Hmmm... a fairly tough magic user. Better use this...

Realmz_000960.png

Realmz_000961.png

Realmz_000041.png
Now this is how fights should be. With Nex's pets in the front row, and me in the third or fourth, carefully aiming and hurling my trusty axe.

Realmz_000962.png

On Nex's turn, she sizes up the demon's lackeys in an attempt to determine whether they're susceptible to paralysis spells.

Realmz_000963.png

Realmz_000964.png

Realmz_000038.png
Drat!

Realmz_000965.png

Realmz_000038.png
I'll just stick to my spécialité.

Realmz_000966.png

Realmz_000967.png

Anti'ids are powerful magic users. They're not always careful with their attacks, though, so expect some losses due to friendly fire.

Realmz_000968.png

Realmz_000046.png
Don't ye know, pump it up!

Realmz_000969.png

Realmz_000970.png

Realmz_000971.png

Realmz_000972.png

Realmz_000973.png

Realmz_000974.png

Realmz_000030.png
Bzz bzz.

Realmz_000975.png

Realmz_000040.png
Here's johnny!

Realmz_000976.png

Realmz_000977.png

The Anti'id in action. He usually casts 2-3 spells, but I only managed to capture one.

Realmz_000978.png

Realmz_000979.png

Realmz_000980.png

Realmz_000981.png

Crimson almost single-handedly brings the demon to its knees.
Realmz_000046.png
High five!

Realmz_000983.png

Realmz_000986.png

Realmz_001072.png
FINISH HIM!

Realmz_000985.png

And thus ends Rewop.

Realmz_000988.png

Realmz_000990.png

Realmz_000040.png
Ooh, I fancy that axe!

Realmz_000991.png

Not pictured here, but we actually take damage from the explosion.

Realmz_000992.png

We pack up the dead wizard's shit, and head back to Bywater.

Realmz_000993.png

Realmz_000994.png

Realmz_000038.png
I'm a delicate butterfly, I need all the protection I can get!

Another source of disturbance is soon investigated.

Realmz_001002.png

Realmz_001003.png

Realmz_001004.png

Realmz_001005.png

Realmz_001006.png

Realmz_001007.png

Realmz_000040.png
You're welcome!

Realmz_001008.png

The battle begins, and before you can say Jack Robinson, the Anti'id pulverizes the Dragon.

Realmz_001009.png

Realmz_000039.png
Like taking candy from a goblin.

Realmz_001011.png

Realmz_000041.png
Malac Ross, now 20% less squishy.

Realmz_001013.png

Realmz_000041.png
I like what I see here!

Once again we return to Bywater to sell junk.

Realmz_001014.png

This double dagger is actually cursed:

Realmz_001015.png

Malac gets a pair of gloves befitting his profession.

Realmz_001016.png

Now would be a good time to survey the rest of the party's equipment:

Realmz_001017.png

Realmz_001019.png

Realmz_001020.png

Realmz_001021.png

Realmz_001022.png

Feeling cocky confident, we decide to try our chances with the Temple of Elemental Evil Spider Tower.

Realmz_001023.png

Realmz_001024.png

Realmz_001025.png

Realmz_001026.png

The battle at the gate is won with little difficulty.

Realmz_001027.png

Realmz_001028.png

However, the ruckus alerts the guardians inside the Tower to our presence, resulting in a TPK when we attempt to just storm the place. C&C and all of that.

I like how increasingly evil your summoned creatures are

 with the attempted demon summoning, which goes as well as you can expect.

We can't just let him die after slaying half of his clan, right?

I'm starting to wonder who the real monsters are in this campaign.

Pff, rpg heroes don't suffer from such weaknesses like remorse, they're sociopaths mighty beigns that will do anything to accomplish their goals:

Just noticed this, read through most of it just now. Really charming game, the battles are really random in the end (depending what the enemy AI does) but somehow the quest structure and loot/character advancement keep you interested.

And felt like resuming my own game which I started sometime last year now (and thankfully still have the save) - still in Bywater too, almost only place that's left unexplored is Waterford. If anyone has good suggestions to pick as the next campaign for a party of five ~8-level PCs (fencer, fighter, assassin, sorc, priest - fencer does most dmg by far of them) I'm all ears, only ever played Bywater as a kid.

I think +2 weapons is as good as it gets in this scenario.
That's wrong, btw. From somewhere, can't remember where exactly anymore, my current Orc warrior has a +3 war axe. Doesn't matter much but just something I noticed while reading through : )

And can anyone verify or debunk this strong hunch I have, that the type of your summons is determined a lot by the location where you summon? Some places you get piss poor things but other places give you awesome creatures like that pink slime you have, someplace will give dragons, or actually the best summon I remember having myself was this big fungus that was capable of charming enemies (permanently!) that kept me cruising easily with getting most enemies I wanted as allies (possibly I got that from the mushroom forest in the wild where you battle those creatures, but not exactly sure).
In my current party I don't have a summoner actually, since it's just more fun to do damage with your party proper. And my characters will have more prestige. :D
Maybe I should start a whole new thread about the game, but maybe posting this here will do as well.

Also, update?
And are you aware of the easier way to battle the tower, I think you could maybe make it then now already.
