Update 8: the promised land
Since we last left each other, Hongda took an unnecessary trip back to town just before getting to fight the big boss Merveil.

We also found a Mallet. Why don't we throw every orb we have at it and get to showcase the crafting a bit.

I don't have very much. Just a few blacksmith wetstones to improve the base quality and an orb of chance that could possibly lead to a rare. I still have never gotten a rare from an orb of chance...

Motherfucker. The mod is banal, perhaps we can make it better.

Fortunately we have another crappy low level orb to improve the mallet. These orbs should add up to a second blue modifier.

Still shit.

Two orbs of alteration are applied to reroll all the modifiers. 2nd result is not boring, I'll keep it. Half the orbs I've found so far (they are the in-game currency!) on this iffy mallet. I have a feeling I won't be the last person to attempt to build the perfect item.

With our new helmet and mallet, we look the part of a mercyless killer. Our DPS is up too.

Our armor is strong, we are as ready as ever.

It is time to assert our dominance over Merveil.

Many lesser men must've run away from her tempted by the riches they could take with them. Not us.

Ok, maybe some ran away because she was ugly too.

We land the first blows, she will not survive.

Heavy strike is back.

She is freezing me, hitting me hard but I answer all her attacks. We're so close...

It's over isn't it! She has been bested.

Or not. The drama just won't end!

She has friends too. My potions need a refill in fact.

The second round begins. She call me beta and says I don't have the strength to continue.

I point out her attack compositions are too cliche and overused.

The game plan is well established , except I am apparently out of mana. Who will survive longer now, Merveil or my potion belt?

My carefully-crafted pattern of 2 different attacks is paying off. This is like 3D chess at this point and I am one move away from check mate.

The queen has been defeated, it is done.

Yet the gold was but an illusion, I wonder what my reward is...

A light shines on a treasure chest and it is filled with loot.

But I feel another light...

A stronger light.

Could it be... The Forest?
Only one way to find out.

The warm glow surrounds me, we are indeed in The Forest, the pussy forest!

Time for Hongda to retire... and slurp that shit right up.

When will the game go live (non-beta)? I took part in the stress test, but didn't really get to get a feel for the game, due to other concerns that weekend. I'm just curious and too lazy to look it up myself.

You can buy beta access right away for $10. Besides that, maybe you can still get lucky and get a friend invite. I haven't gotten one yet to distribute. For when it goes open beta, I'd venture a few months from now, the game still has a lot of content left to add.

Guess I'll wait for the open beta. Don't have much time to play anyway, so there's really not much reason for me to shell even 10 bucks for this game. Still, have a few friends I'm going to recommend it to. They don't have children, so they have quite a bit more free time.

Yep, uniques also are possible. Having used about 40 Orbs of Chance so far I got 4 rares, so yeah, either I'm unlucky, or the other guys just lucky.

You can also get better stuff from vendoring items, if you know the 'recipe' and got the items for them. Lucky for us some guys already found out almost all of them. http://templeofexiles.com/recipes

Saving rares that don't take up too much space for chaos or alchemy orbs sure is worth it. Or trading them in for Armourers Scraps to upgrade rare armours to get a Regal Orb, which is like one of the most expensive ones, next to Exalted Orbs.
