Demo (Full game isn't out yet ;))

    01 - Welcome to Amalur
    [IMG]
Like all UberAwesomeMegaKoolActionRPGs of late, Kingdoms of Amalur has an intro that introduces you to the world, it's history and all the mindfuck that comes with it.

The narrator here is actually the same voice actress that did Morrigan in Dragon Age.

WoW-esque villages and somewhat bland world name. So far not impressed.

The soldiers suddenly realize they didn't raise their perception skill and now are surrounded by archers and warriors

Come to think of it, they didn't have level appropriate gear either.

Like all saturday-morning villains, Gadflow is about to execute a nameless dude to establish his awesomeness.

    Bow-chicka-bow-wow

Luckily, the soldier didn't forgot to upgrade his one-handed skill, so he killed the Tuatha

    DUM... DUM...

    ...DUM!!

So far it's only the intro. Next update will feature character creation and actual gameplay!

Yet as soon he became king all the Faes turned into immortal warriors bred for battle wielding silly "I AM EVIL" swords...

Also, how humanity lasted 10 years against an immortal army? Siege Tanks?

    But please, do continue. :)

First they came for the axes, and now swords are blunt weapons as well... There are no surprises, only :decline:

Thanks very much for beginning the LP, I see there's no reason to dl the 2.5 GB demo.

This scene, basically is the prolouge to character creation

I'll have a go with this dark elf looking fella

Next step is chosing a deity, similair to D&D. like D&D, choosing a deity grants you certain bonuses.

I choose to model him after our favorite wimpy NPC we all love from DA Origins

And now we're about to name our Alistair lookalike

What? You expected me to name him Alistair? No Kodex, I don't roll my dice that way!

    Uh-oh

Ewwww. Something tells me this isn't your grandpa's RPG anymore.

Facial animation approaching Jimbob level awesomeness!

Careful not to step in shit.

Ugh. Made it down at last.

I should mention the camera feels way too clunky and unresponsive, it's on par with DS3 at least.

    Hmmm. Interesting

We loot a sword from a nearby container

The interface is unfriendly to use (to put it lightly). Even I a newfag such as I has trouble with this trash interface.

Here's Timmy with his plastic sword doll looking like a BRO

Shit. Tuatha, guess IT'S TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO AVOID COMBAT HERE!

Before we get a change to get some shining new weapons and armor though, we encounter giant rats. Ahhh... feels like Dragon Age already

Combat in this game feels (and looks in my opinion) a lot like TW2. The only difference is that the combat is more responsive and you can really 'feel' the impact of the moves you make here.

Time to swoop to the rescue

This is actually quite handy, as I discovered later on in the demo.

The camera during combat feels even more akward than it did in normal mode. When the game thinks there are too many enemies of screen, it switches to a lookalike top down view. But somehow it doesn't quite work.

And then, only a few seconds later, it switches back to OTS o_O

It's one of those gnomes who tossed me on the body pile. Great.

:obviously: Ah, the infamous dialouge wheel. We meet again!

Note: That's not my character talking, and Hugues is the one who made the well of souls.

Well, to destory the well? Isn't that obvious?!

He hands me some health potions.

Just a screen here of the 'other' dialouge mode, which is more like the one we all love (or hate) from the Elder Scrolls

Pretty good art design by the way.

Dialog wheel, clunky cameras, a plot where you play an amnesiac raised from the dead. THIS IS SO ORIGINAL.

The odd thing is dialog does not even USE the wheel most of the time, it have it some times but others is just a topic list box.
I completed the demo, died twice the second time I played (lets just say I am not a staff person) ... I would not say is that bad, at least looks better that TOR.

I played as much of the demo as I could. Mouse smoothing + fucking shitty motion blur when the camera moves makes it a nauseating experience for me. I am underwhelmed anyway, except by the combat. The combat's pretty good for an action-RPG.

Played the demo again today, but went berserk to see what happens. Stole a shitty weapon from the Blacksmith, whole town got hostile. Guards approached me and took me to jail. I lockpicked my way out and slayed the whole town, except for a important-quets giving NPC that kept respawning. Felt like Skyrim all over again...Also finally found a wand shotgun and WoW's Illidan blade in-game.

To be 100% honest is not an horribad game, it's what Fable should have been. But I was disapointed in how the primary and secondary weapon combos do not mix together at all...

I still find it strange they don't use the dialouge wheel as often as I'd like. I'm not really a fan of those TES-like topic boxes, and thanks to Mass Deffect, dialouge wheel has become a standard in nextgen RPGs

It seems like the wheel is used on "important" conversations, and the TES boxes on those "filler" dialogs...I guess is just an educated way of saying "none of this is important, skip it and go kill something".
