You are probably going to now find the combat too easy because you are so powerful(?) I've just been increasing Learning slowly.

Almost every day there is an update of few MBs on steam... What exactly are they changing? anyone got changelogs or something?

Jaesun yeah combats easy now buff with paylly/bard/cleric and then keep a paperweight on spacebar. Should have started in hardcore

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I was wondering about these updates, too. The only thing Steam shows in the news section is that the game was released. Most devs put the patch notes up there.

Amberian Diamond to Altar of Kersket in Varaskel Desert (+5 Con)
Golden Seed to Altar of Febret in Varagarn (+15 All Resists)
Book of Life to Altar of Alnaet in Sorrentia (+10 Power)
The Builder Scepter (Arena Champ Reward) to Altar of Golot in Hadiros (+5% Exp)
The Glass Owl (Geldra Behind Ancient Yotum) to Altar of Taliet in Karraga (+5 Speed)

Wonder how many remaining ones.
EDIT: Made mistake with Glass Owl.

My Barbarian is a fucking killing machine:

Nice. Maxed out learning as well?

Yes. Around level 20 or so I started giving him all the stats less energy and power points from herbs and magic cauldrons.

I finished the game with Gaulen, Barbarian, Thief - Bard, Cleric, Divine Summoner. The DS is a class I didn't like that much so my next playthrough will be with a Mage in Ironman mode because the Barbarian, Bard, Cleric and Thief are a must.

I found Mage to be the suckiest class by far. Haven't tried DS tho.

I'm playing Gaulen, Arcane Soldier (1H+Shield), Cleric, Mage, Divine Summoner, and Thief (dagger specced, regret). My mage does the most damage. Melee wise, the Arcane Soldier does the most dmg but only 90-100+ dmg with Powerful Strike and highest tier Saber provided he doesn't miss which he does. And holy crap, are Liches and Ancient Vampires an annoying group.

Well, my problem with the Mage is that his specialty is AoE damage. He also needs to drink gallons of mana to sustain this damage, which is expensive and inefficient.

The most he can reasonably pull off is... 200 or so (taking into account enemy resists)? At the cost of more than 100 mana? Late game challenges are either bosses (that are defeated by buffing through cleric / debuffing through melee specialists - wounds, bleeding, stuns) or demon groups (6 demons of 2000 hp each and high resistances - you'll need to chug potions like a maniac). The 10 stacks of temple undead are more like cannon fodder. You can use Inferno, sure, but you can just as well put something heavy on the spacebar and take a coffee break.

The best 'wounding' debuffs a mage can manage deal like 2 points each, taking into account resists it's really not that much (the demons need like 30 wounds to be properly neutered and an axe barbarian or soldier can set up like 5 per turn).

In the end, the only real utility my mage could provide were Brittle Armor (which I could still easily do without) and Icy Touch (cheap and effective). The AoE frost spell (the one that costs 120 mana at high level) was useful at disabling demon stacks with 3 red demons up front, but that's about it. As for sniping Liches, the Cleric's level 50 spell (the one that does 1000 damage) is far better since it can one-shot them.

My Mage is awesome, because she does one thing, and one thing very well, stopping an enemy from attacking and throwing them down in the queue.

I just wish my f&%#@$ Paladin would stun with that much accuracy....

What spells do you use with your mage?

Icy Touch does wonders. If I can't reach the person I want to stun and throw down in the queue I use Lightening.

I have both those spells at Level 4. So far they stun quite reliably. Better than my shitty Paladin.

Icy shards for bleed debuff, meteor for wound debuff (and nice physical dmg), early and mid game blizzard is really good, late game its inferno.

Mages are really good if played properly.

Level 53 and my mage has 98 in Energy, about 450mana. Energy Absorption at max as well. Max meteor and lightning are my normal nuking spells. Thunder Storm and Meteor Swarm for AE. I absorb enemy mana if I'm low. Demons give quite a handful of mana. I drink pots only at boss fights or those extra lengthy demon or Lich encounters.

Meteor/hammer is +2 wounds vs. late game opponents and meteor costs like... 150 mana? The damage itself (~100-150?) is negligible vs. enemies that count. Blizzard is really random - useful for a limited time, though; esp. if you want to take on the guards early and pray, pray to the RNG. I can't think of any fights where Inferno really made a difference rather than being more of a convenience spell to mop up big crowds to save time.

Haven't tried Icy Shards tbh, looks like it could be a really good spell though I've no idea how resistant monsters are to the ice-element induced bleed compared to regular bleed (if they're less resistant it could indeed be very good).

What spells do you use with your mage?

Stone Arrow - Low cost, lower than Spark, it hits targets at the back row, probably deals more damage than Sparks (which doesn't hit the back row)
Fireball - Situational, good for fire dotting enemies. Direct dmg not so damaging for the other 2 non-centre targets.
Frostball - Situational chain freezing 3 targets, pretty good dmg as well but expensive for mana
Icy Shards - Great for bleed debuff. Even in endgame.
Blizzard - I only use it early game. Good AE spell hitting all targets with possiblility of freezing. Too weak for endgame.
Meteor - High damage on a single target, wounds target. Good main nuking spell if manapool is high.
Meteor Swarm - Meteor on 3 targets, wounds all targets. High mana cost
Thunder Storm - Good early alternative AE spell. Hits 3 random targets. Damage roll same for all 3 targets, doesn't dissipate unlike Fireball or Frostball. Stuns enemies.
Energy Absorption - Compulsory spell for me, drains mana from certain enemies. Saved me tonnes of pots.
Inferno - Hardly used, but I use it if there are many weak targets and the fire dot can kill them easily.
Hammer of Destroyer - Max ASAP. Wounds enemies and bosses. Compulsory for easier boss fights.

Maxed absorption only gave me about 50 mana from the big demons whereas thunder of the gods is about 100 to cast (and meteor is ~150?) Not to mention you have to spend a turn to cast it when you could just quaff a potion instead. In other words it's a great spell for sustain (a powered-up prayer, pretty much) but it didn't really turn my mage into a nuking monster, more like cast 2 big nukes => quaff potion (or skip 4 turns to use absorption) => repeat. Even my ranged thief had more utility more than this, what with +7 wound modifier on a 2-stars-below-max crossbow + Quick Action.

Max single Meteor is 60 mana. I use it mostly now. My Meteor Shower is level 4, though I don't use that as much.

Ah yes, I meant meteor shower. I never actually used regular meteor because hammer seemed to deal the exact same wounding modifier (the shower spell had an AoE effect, at least).

Is there a teleport stone thing in ALL overland areas?

If so, I think I've done a crappy job of exploring (or you have to reach it from another area).

Meteor is better than the Hammer since it seems the wounding is better and the dmg is way higher. When both are maxed the meteor mana cost is maybe 20-30% more than hammer.
I found blizzard very VERY useful but then i was playing with 4 mages so shit was pretty much perma-frozen.

Only in those that have some sort of a settlement.
