Since we have a lot of tards on this forum fighting the Steam for fake or minor reasons, while their main argument is something along "If Steam dies in 100 years, my grandchildren will not be able to play my games, unlike physical copies (which have limited lifetime, but let's ignore it, because Valve is just evil!)" I thought of making this thread, so people would stop retarding and screaming all around that Gabe makes Steam always-on forced DRM. Well, he does not, he does it to his games only and the rest is up to other publishers (and devs?) releasing their games. For example Paradox never includes any DRM in his games even on steam. You can just download steam, buy any Paradox title, install, cut-paste folder from steam directory, uninstall steam and enjoy the game without DRM.

The list includes titles bought and tested by me and copy pasted from this thread: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/list_of_drmfree_games_on_steam/ (thanks Bazilisek and other GOG members!). It's by no means complete or even near completion.

So if a publisher is to force DRM on a game, I'd rather have it as Steam instead of Securom crap or anything similar which often tends to fail and tell that your copy is pirated or is incompatible with other installed software and does not allow to run the game (I had both cases too many times). Still, not all Steam games are DRM free, but then you can just download crack.exe.

    STEAM IS DRM

    Nice list though, Ponydwarf.

SecuRom is fairly mild though, I'd say, TAGES and STARFORCE were the worst shit until the new always-online idiocy.

Err... but the point of this thread is that it's not for all games. For many of them, it's only required to download and that's all.

If Steam or Valve itself ever goes away (which is looking more and more likely, since they're fucking around with Linux consoles and indie shit instead of releasing brilliant, original games like they should), the great and noble god-emperor Gaben The Gargantuan will most likely provide some workaround for the DRM, they've always said so. He has so far proven himself an honest BRO so there's no reason not to take his word. Personally, I'm more worried about the stuff that has extra, super-shitty DRM stuffed in over and above Steam, like Fallout 3 and the Batman games with GFWL, or the Ubisoft games. Those servers are far more likely to leave us stranded than Steam ever would.

Dont forget that the man is not immortal and will most likely die before Steam does. Who knows who would succeed him in that case.

Granted I dont think Steam is any worse than the classic cds/dvds.
