I played about an hour of the Early Access beta just not. It's a little sad. They've got a solid idea, but it's crippled by the poor gameplay. The slow, tedious movement and awful spellcasting combined with rubbish variety in spells just makes for an overall meh experience.

I watched a few streams of this and unfortunately the spells are quite spammy. It won't take long for you to be uterly bored by spamming the same fire spell over and over again with the other spells don't working on any different way. Creativity on the spell system was something that wasn't taken really seriously.

One improvement that could change the game for the better is simply adding weight to the spells. I don't expect to throw a fireball at someone and have them still run straight at me unhindered. I'm honestly not sure how I'm supposed to feel like a badass when my spells merely reduce an enemy's health without affecting anything else.

Skyrim with Requiem is a more fun mage experience and is also a lot more varied, so that should tell you something about Lichdom.

Watched some gameplay footage too. Holy hell that looked boring, even going through enemies feels like nothing but a chore. Seems like they had a good idea, but ruined by sloppy execution. While my previous complaint about the lack of interesting spells remain, the lack of feedback in your attacks is easily my main issue now. Enemies dont flinch, they dont sound hurt, they arent hindered, they dont react to getting hit. Ok, you can freeze an enemy... for what feels like half a second.

Man, if Guild Wars 2 taught me something it is that there is no better way to make me feel like an underpowered weakling than making your skills have absolutely no effect on an enemy other than lowering their health bar.

Meh, seems like it's a loot farming game. One of the devs said that it's similar to Borderlands. No thanks. Why can't a shooter just be a shooter anymore?

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I bought this in alpha while it was dirt cheap. I should give it a go.

Because unless they have excellent gameplay most FPS are boring-ass-fuck. Adding Derpablo loot makes me slightly more interested in this game.

Heh, I always thought of buying into this when it was cheap but I always fucking forgot. Oh well, guess I have to wait until it goes on sale or something.

:rage:

Well not exactly, the stuff you get are just components you use to customize your spells - the variety is pretty good and you can do all sorts of sweet nukage. That is, if the RNG gods favor you. The game also rewards you if you don't die constantly; each checkpoint increases loot rarity level which gets reset whenever you die.

That's pretty great. How frequent are the checkpoints and how hard is it to die?

They're not terribly rare, but not around every corner either. And you die quite quickly if you aren't careful (archers are right proper bastards); there's a few different shield types you can also customize - you can sacrifice mobility for more tankiness and vice versa.

Finished game.

The game designed with some player research in mind. I.e. if you dont understand system (its not hard though), you probably wont make it past first third of game.

A lot questions about game world, if anyone finished, who exactly is Roth? And who is his enemies he constantly fights against? Obviously its not Shax or Cavassa. Also Malthus, where is he now? And who was he at first place.
At end of game you will be probably have more questions than at beginning of game.

Except Biocock is more about a hipsters' idea of the multiverse than it is about combat... and it shows. Lichdom actually has some interesting mechanics, unlike Biocock.
