The last and best, episode of the series, if you must watch one, this is it.

Additionally the documentaries mentioned in this, Civilisation and The Ascent of Man are also worth a look as they are landmark documentaries just like The World at War.

    RED WHITE BLACK & BLUE

Two American veterans revisit Attu Island*, the only site of actual Japanese invasion of Alaska during World War II. Has some rare japanese footage and photos and a lot of rambling of american veterans with a little too much patriotic xenophobia from one of the old farts, but i guess it is kind of understandable given what he has been through back then. There are no Japanese (or Canadians who took part in that battle as well) interviewed to give their views either, which is a shame. Both Japanese and US war crimes mentioned, though, with the Japanese getting a more prominent role of course.

Apart from the usual youtube comments, PBS has its own comment section for this movie, where the maker of the film answered some questions.
Most of the comments are of the "never seen a firefight in my life, but the japanese memorial must be torn down" kind. One of the more interesting ones leads to the diary of a sailor, who witnessed the battle: here.

Ants: Natures Secret Power, pretty cool documentary on ants. All the youtubes are shitty quality though, I recommend the 1080p torrent. Quite recent with some great up close footage.

In 2009 the Sri Lankan government finally succeeded in putting down the decades long insurgency from the Tamil Tigers. The end of this civil war was particularly gruesome as both rebels and government forces commited countless crimes on humanity with a terrified populace being stuck right in the middle of it. Long has the bloody end of the civil war been shrouded in indifference and obscurity. Channel 4 however showed a horrifying documentary from mobile phone footage shot by both perpetrators and victims of the horrors that took place in the final days. Be warned it is bad.

Tribal Journeys: The Toulambi. A series by Jean-Pierre Dutilleux

Footage of the first contact of the Toulambi tribe of Papua New Guinea with the white man in 1993. Unfortunately for them he is belgian and neither carries beer nor fries, so they leave after three days of sharing their story and teaching him a reasonable language.
