Don't you think maybe you should use a different sprite for Lucca's mother? You know, one without feet?

I never thought of chasing Frog to the bridge before. It's cool that they had a line changed for that moment.
Yeah, I had the same thought.

...............this is when it gets railroaded a bit. :( I always thought it was BS how I can be guilty in the trial. So I reloaded, did things differently.....and...I still got jailed. :rage:

It's JRPG after all :)

Bullshit, there are several jrpgs with actual choices and consequences, some examples would be:

SMT1-3 plus Strange Journey, Steambot Chronicles, Breath of Fire series (in all of them there's at least one alternate ending, and in the second one if you screw up you will not be able to get the best ending), SMT: Devil survivor (plenty of choices, bad ones included), Planescape: Torment...

CT does have limited C&C in whether you do some of the side quests and how you approach the end of the game. There are also the alternate endings but I don't think that counts because you have to access those through new game+ anyway.

Indeed. Several quests and afair one optional dungeon. Also I can't remember much now, but some alternative endings was hilarious.

Depending on how you want to define 'dungeon' and 'optional' I can think of at least 2, and as many as 7, off the top of my head.

No...actually there's one ending where you don't have to start a new game to access. Which is pretty brave, I feel.

I didn't even think of the Omen as being particularly optional. It leads directly to the last boss, it's pretty much the final dungeon. Though you can skip it (Technically you can skip everything past your first visit to the end of time if you grind enough to win the bucket fight.) I always thought of it as part of the main story. As for other optional dungeons: Giant's Claw, Geno Dome, Cyrus' Grave, Magus' Lair, the mountain you go to for something really spoilerly. I didn't think the sand lair or the sun keep fights counted as dungeons, but those other ones are all fairly complex. And if the Omen is optional, all of the above certainly are as well.

Oh noes ! The evil Chancellor is determined to get Crono arrested on terrorist charges. Things look really bad for our hero. What will the sentence be ? Hanging ? The tickling sentence ? The electric chair ? A good old fashioned Guillotine ?

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292621.jpg

Hey there's a jury here, maybe Crono has a chance after all !

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292622.jpg

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292623.jpg

Merchant20Front.gif
...no, He didn't.

Hey, this Pierre looks like a duchebag but he seems he knows his shit.

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292627.jpg

Merchant20Front.gif
The two met by chance, and it was by no means intentional.

Oh crap, the Chancellor is cross-examining us !

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292629.jpg

The answer here plays a role in the outcome of the trial, if we lie the Chancellor will bring witnesses that will say otherwise...

Crono20-20Down20Front.gif
I was the one who made the first move.

Chancellor220-20Argue.gif
Good ! As you all have heard, feigning chance, the defendant approached the princess.

We recall that fateful moment of clumsiness...

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292639.jpg

Chancellor220Front.gif
Many people are witnesses to that. And then, the two disappeared... If this isn't kidnapping, then what on earth is it ?

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292641.jpg

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292642.jpg

That's my Pierre ! Bringing incline long before Phoenix Wright !

Merchant20Front.gif
Does this have any relevance to the current case ? ...no, it doesn't.

Judge20-20Speak.gif
Is there relevance, Chancellor ?

Chancellor220Front.gif
Yes. There is a need to establish the defendant's morals in order to evaluate if his testimony is trustworthy !

Judge20-20Speak.gif
Fine.

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292648.jpg

Hah, we were ready for this move !

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292651.jpg

Hmm, I remember that little girl from somewhere...

Girl4Front.gif
This person... He brought me my kitty. Thanks for helping me.

Merchant20Front.gif
How about that ! This young person's conduct ? Worthy of a medal.

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292655.jpg

Pierre you Matlock, you ! Thank god we haven't broken any law up to now, right ?

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292656.jpg

Aw shit. Have we ? Maybe some petty theft at a difficult time ? We shouldn't lie here either...

Crono20-20Down20Front.gif
I... may have.

Chancellor220-20Argue.gif
See ?! The defendant is lacking in morals. This should be on the record. He's crying out for help !

Uh-Oh.

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292663.jpg
Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292664.jpg

Crap, we're busted. It was after that Robo fight and we desperately needed to grab a bite...

Chancellor220-20Argue.gif
There is no room for sympathy for a defendant who would even deprive an honestly living man of his simple pleasures !

Merchant20Front.gif
The problem is motive. Where is the motive for this citizen to kidnap Princess Marledia ? ...There is none. :obviously:

Chancellor220Front.gif
Sorry to contradict you, but what if I say you purpose for approaching her was her wealth, Crono ?

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292678.jpg

fuck no ! our eyes were solely on dat ass !

Crono-ShakeHeadFront.gif
Absolutely not !

Chancellor220Front.gif
Do you truly have no interest in her wealth ?!

Crono-ShakeHeadFront.gif
Not at all !

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292681.jpg

Hah, up yours chancellor !

Merchant20Front.gif
As you can see he is a young man with a strong sense of justice. Now, your, honor, the verdict.

Judge20-20Gavel.gif
Jurors. Go, those who think he is guilty to the left, those who think he is not guilty to the right !

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292685.jpg

Oh crap he looks like a friend of that old man we stole the lunch from, we're doomed !

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292686.jpg

Phew... hey, another old-timer !

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292689.jpg

Fuck. I knew they were in cahoots !

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292691.jpg

The suspense is killing me.

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292693.jpg

Do we really have a chance ?!

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292695.jpg

Damn, don't do this to me...

Yep, if we're deemed guilty, we're sentenced to death but if we're deemed not guilty we're still going to prison, thankfully for only three days...

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292708.jpg

But Marle comes to the rescue !

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292713.jpg

P-Princess...

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292716.jpg

Marle-OutstretchedFront.gif
Father ! Please listen !

Guardia20XXXIII20-20Down.gif
I simply want you to behave like a proper princess in the castle. Even if you're royalty you must abide by the country's rules... Leave the rest to the Chancellor.

Marle-DownFront.gif
But...

Guardia20XXXIII20Front.gif
Marledia, you forget about what happened in the town, too.

He has been found guilty, and you must now carry his sentence.

The guard kicks us in the ass. Police brutality !

Chrono%2BTrigger%2B%2528Retranslation%25292748.jpg

Soldier320Front.gif
So THIS guy's the monster who kidnapped the princess.

Chancellor220Front.gif
His execution's in 3 days. Keep watch so you won't let him escape.

WHAT THE FUCK

Crono-ShockedFront.gif
WHAT ?! I was only confined for three days !!

Soldier320Front.gif
Execution ? I've heard nothing about any such thing...

Chancellor220-20Argue.gif
Never mind that. The paperwork's probably delayed. Or, don't you believe my word ?

Soldier320-20Kneel20Left.gif
Th-That is surely not the case !

Crono-ShakeHeadFront.gif
He is lying !! I'm innocent goddammit !!

Yep, it's like the trial in that shitty game.

As far as consequences are concerned, the trials in Chrono Trigger and NWN 2 are indeed pretty similar.

I believe Feargus Urquhart said that Chrono Trigger is one of his favorite games.

I believe someone shopped that, hopping Obsidian would make a CT sequel.

The 3D image is probably from an actual CT fan-sequel/remake that was in the making, until Squarenix shut them down.

Chrono's backdrops are usually really impressive for a SNES RPG, I seriously think the only SNES game that does them better is Seiken Densetsu 3.
