Fortunately (or not, depending on how you look at it) scrolls DCs ARE modified by the caster's ability scores in ToEE.

This does not appear to be he case, unfortunately. Just a moment ago I cast sleep from a scroll. It's DC was 12 = 10 (basic) + 1 (1st level spell) + 1 (Spell Focus: Enchantment). A little bit lame. :/

Btw, if this is a bug or deliberate I don't know, but light maces fall into weapon finesse supported category, while scimitars do not despite both of them weighing 4 pounds.

Maces are light, offhand weapons. Scimitars are not. Working as intended.

Also, in regards to spells with a large AoE, scrolls are still semi-viable. Bucket of dice principle, if you include enough people in the AoE someone is bound to fail their save. Especially in the case of sleep scrolls and hordes of 1hd monsters like goblins and kobolds. It's single-target spells you need to avoid like the plague.

Strange, because I've had the opposite results with a Wizard and a Cleric. Perhaps it's only the case for sorcerers - and maybe the game cosiders arcane scrolls governed by Int?

Chapter II: Lochy i płazy

Welcome back, after a short intermission. As you remember our party of thieves, genocidal cutthroats and diabolist witches brave adventuresses and a half-orc managed to clean out Welkwood Bog and gained a level in the process.

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
Finally! :rpgcodex:

Time for the favourite part in any cRPG.

pt3_0000_toee-2011-10-23-01-38-33-99.bmp.jpg

We pick a fighter level for Anna Rexia and choose weapon finesse feat. That'll make here able to hit something smaller than the door to the barn.

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
Bitch Whoreson!!

She scores 6 hp on hp roll which ain't tragic. But could have been better :/

Clausewitz gets level 2 barbarian. There's nothing much to it – he doesn't get any new feats or anything. Good hp roll – has now 27 hp.

Same deal with Miss Bee. Apart from entangle and cure light wounds she memorises Produce Flame spell.

Aislinn does not learn any new spells, except for 0 level Ray of Frost.

Nex learns Burning Hands and Protection from Evil. Both ladies roll... averagely...

Nex.jpg
I think somebody does not value his life.

Aislinn.jpg
Like, totally.

Anyway, we go collect our rewards...

pt3_0001_toee-2011-10-23-01-44-29-69.bmp.jpg

Miss%20Bee.jpg
You don't mean to tell us you forgot to get us rewarded after the whole deal with spiders?!

Uhm... no! Not at all! This way please!

pt3_0002_toee-2011-10-23-01-45-41-41.bmp.jpg

We get whooping 100 gold for our noble deed.

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
Gee! Wonder what we'll do with so much cash.

Miss%20Bee.jpg
Scribing all those scrolls we used up previously cost us more than 150 GP. :(

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
Whatever! Anyway, any of you girls remember what the hell we came to this gods forsaken shithole in the first place?

Aislinn.jpg
Uhmm...

Nex.jpg
Errm...

Miss%20Bee.jpg
Hmm...

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
Me neither :P

Steroid.jpg
Jawoo!!!

*Clausewitz rushess off*

Nex.jpg
What's the deal with him!?

Miss%20Bee.jpg
My guess is... it's this time of the month!

Aislinn.jpg
Probably.

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
Oh, well. We'd better go after him before bites off someone loins or something.

Finally, our heroines manage to locate strayed half- orc in a small earthish cabin.

pt3_0003_toee-2011-10-23-01-49-33-03.bmp.jpg

Steroid.jpg
Jawoo!!!

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
Lookie me here. I think I had a sudden recollection.

Miss%20Bee.jpg
Good boy, Clausewitz - you've found him. Have a biscuit!

Steroid.jpg
“Munch, munch, munch”.

pt3_0004_toee-2011-10-23-01-49-36-11.bmp.jpg

pt3_0005_toee-2011-10-23-01-49-40-98.bmp.jpg

Nex.jpg
Predictable. Yet again we'll be running errands for clerical fools.

Miss%20Bee.jpg
ehm...

Nex.jpg
...who cannot make their people band up and take care of their problem themselves.

Miss%20Bee.jpg
Ever the sunshine, aren't we?

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
While we are at it, let's visit the other chief religious leader round here.

Nex.jpg
What for?

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
Divine guidance? :P

pt3_0007_toee-2011-10-25-20-16-02-99.bmp.jpg

pt3_0008_toee-2011-10-25-20-16-31-34.bmp.jpg

pt3_0009_toee-2011-10-25-20-16-33-23.bmp.jpg

Nex.jpg
So what did I tell you about running errands? :x

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
Well, let's go to the blacksmith then. We must sell our stuff before going anything.

Nex.jpg
You mean that oafish droid druid? I bet he will have us do some preposterous shit like bringing him the head of a troll or something.

pt3_0010_toee-2011-10-25-20-17-52-43.bmp.jpg

pt3_0011_toee-2011-10-25-20-18-04-52.bmp.jpg

Nex.jpg
:rage:

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
How about going to the inn. Before deciding where to go now, it'd be good idea to prepare ourselves accordingly.

pt3_0012_toee-2011-10-25-20-22-26-81.bmp.jpg

Thus a number of fresh Cure Light Wounds and Produce Flame scrolls, as well as Mage Armour, Protection from Evil and Sleep scrolls are written

Miss%20Bee.jpg
So, where are we headed?

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
The original plan was to do the fetching quest, first. Seeing how we are totally unprepared for fighting hordes of undead dwelling there, it's better to postpone that for later?

Miss%20Bee.jpg
We are going to the swamped mansion, right?

Nex.jpg
Oh, the excitement of fighting of snakes 'n' spiders and...

pt3_0013_toee-2011-10-25-20-58-57-94.bmp.jpg

Nex.jpg
frogs? :retarded:

There's not much to say here. We just bash it...

pt3_0014_toee-2011-10-25-20-59-38-18.bmp.jpg

and it dies – from a successful sneak attack by Anna Rexia.

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
:smug:

The thing is, by creeping behind the frog's back she attracts two more hostiles.

pt3_0015_toee-2011-10-25-20-59-45-61.bmp.jpg

pt3_0016_toee-2011-10-25-21-00-14-39.bmp.jpg

What you see here pretty much made this fight so rage inducing I have no words for it.

Simply put, the froggies resist every attempt to put them to sleep.

pt3_0017_toee-2011-10-25-21-01-16-33.bmp.jpg

For two bloody turns!!

Aislinn.jpg
:x

Nex.jpg
:rage:

which leads to a lot of more mess than this encounter should create.

pt3_0018_toee-2011-10-25-21-02-48-38.bmp.jpg

At the time when Anna Rexia is swallowed by one frog and Clausewitz grappled by another.

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
Damned amphibians!

Luckily, Aislinn finally manages to tranqulize... one of them.

Aislinn.jpg
Damned amphibians!

Which did nothing to stop the frog from grappling Clausewitz with its tongue.

Steroid.jpg
:rage:

toee-2011-10-25-21-03-19-61.jpg

So enraged our heroes are by this that Anna Rexia guts her way to the surface from the frog's belly with a sneak attack, and Clausewitz one-shot critics the other!

Naturally we dispose off our barbarian attached himself too much to.

Steroid.jpg
Bye, bye froggie. :troll:

We meet another frog, and exact a terrible vengeance for the previous battle/

pt3_0019_toee-2011-10-25-21-06-28-78.bmp.jpg

We head east, enter the courtyard of the moat house and to our surprise...

pt3_0020_toee-2011-10-25-21-07-34-31.bmp.jpg

we meet with opposition.

Clausewitz slashes through the first foe.

pt3_0021_toee-2011-10-25-21-07-56-21.bmp.jpg

Aislinn puts three more of them to sleep.

pt3_0022_toee-2011-10-25-21-09-37-51.bmp.jpg

Miss Bee entraps the opponents to the far east with Entangle.

pt3_0023_toee-2011-10-25-21-10-55-85.bmp.jpg

The rest is history.

We enter the tower to the south.

pt3_0024_toee-2011-10-25-21-14-36-98.bmp.jpg

Where we meet violent opposition.

pt3_0025_toee-2011-10-25-21-15-13-35.bmp.jpg

Aislinn.jpg
Ok, lasses and slave, here's the deal. That's the last Sleep spell we have. If that fails we are pretty much screwed. So pray to any deitic entity you have... preferably to your pretty, glorious, awesome, amazing, and above all, humble sorceress aka moi.

pt3_0026_toee-2011-10-25-21-15-16-72.bmp.jpg

Aislinn.jpg
As usual, justice prevails.

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
Loved the :humble: part.

pt3_0026_toee-2011-10-25-21-15-16-72.bmp.jpg

pt3_0027_toee-2011-10-25-21-18-30-22.bmp.jpg

Anna Rexia Guess who gets her slender hands on the treasure.

Aislinn.jpg
Scrollies!

pt3_0028_toee-2011-10-25-21-24-26-66.bmp.jpg

After night's rest we loot the bodies of all that stood in our way, to sell it in town (we are kinda low on cash now). We find a nice ring on a frog, which is connected with a quest.

pt3_0029_toee-2011-10-25-21-28-23-09.bmp.jpg

We collect a elven cloak from Black Jay, along with some xp.

Then we sell all the loot.

pt3_0030_toee-2011-10-25-21-29-10-36.bmp.jpg

On our way back we meet more victims. There's nothing significant going on except for Aislinn getting hit in the first turn and temporarily losing two constitution points.

Aislinn.jpg
You call that nothing significant?!! :x

toee-2011-10-25-21-33-55-28.jpg

Once we've arrived we go around the keep to find a secret passage in the north-eastern part of the wall. I have a gut feeling we are in for a fight.

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
Gut feeling my arse!

Expecting unpleasant welcoming, we prepare ourselves with Mage Armour spell cast on our wizardess and sorceress, as well as we put Protection from Evil on Anna and Clausewitz.

pt3_0031_toee-2011-10-25-21-35-19-61.bmp.jpg

The combat initiates and, as you can see the first to get hurt was Aislinn. Fortunately she still stands.

Clausewitz and Anna Rexia strike back for 2 and 10 points, respectively.

pt3_0032_toee-2011-10-25-21-35-38-68.bmp.jpg

Anna Rexia manages to put to sleep one for – but by far, the most dangerous one.

Miss Bee casts Produce Flame and deals some major damage herself. Something tells me this gonna be her spell of choice for some time.

pt3_0033_toee-2011-10-25-21-36-27-07.bmp.jpg

Aislinn takes over and “silences” another bunch. Melee fighters hurt one another with sharp, pointy objects.

pt3_0035_toee-2011-10-25-21-37-04-52.bmp.jpg

Nex casts Grease, while Bee throws another fire ray at the opponents.

pt3_0036_toee-2011-10-25-21-37-12-73.bmp.jpg

Aislinn casts sleep on the two remaining foes, finalizing the fight.

You know what comes next: cutting throats, looting, healing etc, etc.

We leave through the northern door. The corridor turns south and we soon are faced with this:

pt3_0037_toee-2011-10-25-21-40-47-29.bmp.jpg

As you can see Anna Rexia was very unfortunate to be struck once, when the Viper engaged combat, and a second time when she tried to flank it.

pt3_0038_toee-2011-10-25-21-42-52-35.bmp.jpg

We fight on with raging Clausewitz...

Steroid.jpg
DEATH TO CONSOLEFAGS!!! :rage:

being the only thing standing between victory and total doom...

Aislinn.jpg
*Ehm!* :rpgcodex:

beside our battle droid, wizardess, and – oh, so glamorous – witch, that is.

Aislinn.jpg

Anyway, Aislinn casts Ray of Enfeeblement from a scroll draining away 6 Str points – which explains why the damned snake misses turn after turn later on.

pt3_0039_toee-2011-10-25-21-43-32-80.bmp.jpg

The half-orc deals smashing damage and cuts the Viper's head off.

Miss Bee saves Anna from sure demise with two scrolls of Curing.

Being tired, and magicked out, we go to the spider tower and rest a little while.

pt3_0040_toee-2011-10-25-21-48-46-36.bmp.jpg

Then we go the lower level of the moathouse.

As you can see, in the lower left-hand corner there's feast going on.

pt3_0042_toee-2011-10-25-21-53-49-69.bmp.jpg

Nex.jpg
Zombiez! How exciting!

Miss%20Bee.jpg
Except not

pt3_0043_toee-2011-10-25-21-57-17-41.bmp.jpg

pt3_0044_toee-2011-10-25-21-58-30-79.bmp.jpg

Anna Rexia is in the pinch again. Have no fear, though - mighty Clausewitz is here!

Steroid.jpg
Harragh! :smug:

pt3_0045_toee-2011-10-25-22-02-24-28.bmp.jpg

It was not very challenging, but very resource consuming. Yet again, we go upstairs, to the tower and rest a day or two.

toee-2011-10-26-22-13-56-66.jpg

Upon return, we go to the northern chamber and fix ourselves some nice cloaks collected from an unguarded chest. Every party member puts them on.

pt3_0047_toee-2011-10-26-22-14-48-09.bmp.jpg

We turn to the south-east. Upon entering a new room we are faced with this monstrosity:

pt3_0047_toee-2011-10-26-22-14-48-09.bmp.jpg

pt3_0048_toee-2011-10-26-22-14-56-60.bmp.jpg

Thanks to Aislinn's supreme Charisma score we bluff our way through.

Steroid.jpg
No, ogre smashing? Ohhh :(

Before venturing forth, however:

pt3_0049_toee-2011-10-26-22-15-32-97.bmp.jpg

We free some would-be heroes...

pt3_0050_toee-2011-10-26-22-15-53-02.bmp.jpg

and get a small token of gratitude this way.

pt3_0051_toee-2011-10-26-22-16-50-18.bmp.jpg

We proceed downstairs...

pt3_0052_toee-2011-10-26-22-21-11-53.bmp.jpg

To find what we've been looking for.

Aislinn.jpg
More sacrifices to the dark gods?

Nex.jpg
Precisely! :smug:

*Major battle*

pt3_0053_toee-2011-10-26-22-22-28-99.bmp.jpg

We start off combat with Nex boring putting a Bugbear Archer to Sleep.

Almost immediately after that Aislinn does pretty much the same with the other.

pt3_0053_toee-2011-10-26-22-22-28-99.bmp.jpg

Fortune fails us this time, however. Once we leave the combat mode it immediately reinitiates and a Bugbear warrior storms into the room. After a barrage of attacks - all of them misses I check the creatures AC – it's goddamn 19!

Leaving for later pondering on how a bugbear with a flimsy leather armour can have so high armour class, Aislinn decides to use it towards our own advantage.

Aislinn.jpg
Can I have a word with you, oh not-so-handsome...?

… and converts the bugbear to our cause.

pt3_0054_toee-2011-10-26-22-23-25-23.bmp.jpg

Two more bugbears rush in. Meanwhile Nex casts Grease, and Bee conjures up Flame, which he immediately uses to hit the monstrosities quite hard.

pt3_0055_toee-2011-10-26-22-25-18-91.bmp.jpg

We exchange some blows and charm another foe. Nex has cast a Protection from Evil magick on our barbarian.

pt3_0056_toee-2011-10-26-22-26-23-83.bmp.jpg

With invaluable help from our temporary allies we best a barbarian bugbear – but only after he uses up potions of cure wounds on himself. :x

Miss%20Bee.jpg
What a waste! :(

Miss Bee heals everyone with her scrolls.

pt3_0058_toee-2011-10-26-22-28-39-65.bmp.jpg

Nex uses a scroll of Sleep on a She-Bugbear. The heroes run onwards leaving their “allies” behind.

pt3_0059_toee-2011-10-26-22-29-36-42.bmp.jpg

A full turn later Nex reads another scroll and a single foe loses consciousness. Everyone focuses fire on the single aware target.

pt3_0060_toee-2011-10-26-22-29-58-55.bmp.jpg

We kill the last foe and gain a level. Before actually levelling up, however, we dispose of sleeping foes and charmed “friends”.

pt3_0061_toee-2011-10-26-22-33-13-92.bmp.jpg

Both Clausewitz and Anna Rexia have quite good hp rolls. The former picks a level as a barbarian and gets Cleve cleave feat. The latter chooses to develop her skills as a rogue, and becomes more mobile (Mobility Improved Initiative feat).

Miss Bee gets herself an Augmented Summoning. Now the battles should :incline: by over 9000! Her hp roll is abysmal, nonetheless.

As you can see Aislinn, becomes more charming than ever.

Nex is going to be our main item crafter, so it's no wonder she pick Craft Wondrous Item. I fuck up with her spell selection though. Instead of choosing the best 2nd level spell like EVAR, I pick Web and Cat's Grace.

Nex.jpg
You witless fool! You doomed us all!!

What can I say? I was tired and dizzy!

Nex.jpg
Spare me your pathetic excuses worm!! I will have your guts!. I will squeeze them out from you LIKE FROM A GODDAMN CATTERPILLAR!!! YOU SHALL KNOW PAIN VERMIN!!! I WILL...!!11111

And so it lasts till the next morning, when our well-rested heroes resolve to do what has to be done. Not that a mistake was forgotten, and all...

Nex.jpg
… I will have my minions scrap the flesh from his bones....

…. but there are more pressing matters to presently attend to before wrapping up this update, them being Ogre slaying:

pt3_0063_toee-2011-10-26-23-05-39-50.bmp.jpg

As you can see the noble, the charming heroines and their mongrel Orc took full advantage of the ancient art of pre-buffing and pre-summoning. Thanks to that they do not suffer a scratch.

Miss Bee has to be commanded in that battle. Her augmented (+4 to Strength and Constitution) Black bear , dealt most of the damage hitting the colossus three times per turn.

Miss%20Bee.jpg
:smug:

pt3_0064_toee-2011-10-26-23-06-37-72.bmp.jpg

In this last screenie you can marvel at Clausewitz delivering skull smashing critical blow.

Steroid.jpg
Warghhh! Da hed got cracked! No souvenir :(

Miss%20Bee.jpg
There, there, big boy. There, there :P

And that would be all for now. In the next thrilling episode, we shall reveal what nefarious force dwells deep within the bowels of the moathouse and get our arses kicked deliver justice, rage and nya to it. Till the next time. :salute:

Took you long enough! :rpgcodex:

I ended up losing patience and reinstalling ToEE myself now. ;)

Meanwhile, in another reality, the Kodex Kool Krew is checking out Nulb
cOuGE.jpg

Liking the augment summoning on the ogre. In my playthrough, Cat the Black charmed the barbarian leader upstairs into tanking Lubash for us.

Also, did you read magic on the scrollies Aislinn cannot into in the first update? There's som goddamn imba lewt there.

Haha. Random encounter. 5 black bears. They start right in the middle of the party. First one gets 3(!!!) attacks that all crit, rip Roxorowski. Then the 2nd and third maul the Spekkmeister. It's spekkmeisters turn, but he's out cold, so the last 2 bears bring Bee to 0 hp.

Thus ended my ironman lv3 party in a single round of combat.

MOAR, good sir. I just remembered why I uninstalled TOEE in the first place :D

You'll be seeing twice of that once I get improved critical

A few thing(ie)s:

1. Be sure to loot the Extraplanar Chest from the zombies.
2. You can buy spells from Burne for Nex.
3. Did you summon familiars for Nex and Aislinn?
4. Shouldn't Bee have a pet Jackal?

Just play it without reloads other than those related to technical stuffies for the same experience without the evil buggies.

I actually have another way of doing it. I keep regular backup saves of all my ironman games in different places. generally atleast two different places from different dates. This way even if savegame corruption or the occasional bug happens, i have something to go back to and i can play the regular ironman mode :smug:

of course just playing normal mode in ironman way is much easier and more efficent but my way works too as ive never lost an ironman game to bugs or savegame corruption so far.

Last time we left our party of rag-tag murderers, sociopats and witches (not necessarily in that order) we accomplished not so impossible feat: they defeated Cleve Lubash, the Ogre.

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
Hurray?

Now, however, after a short bout in town to sell all the fancy lewt we collected, and scribing shittonnes of scrolls of curing + 2 parchments of summon animal II we'll be faced with the greatest challenge.

pt4_0000_toee-2011-10-26-23-07-14-94.bmp.jpg

Miss%20Bee.jpg
Oh, the excitement?

pt4_0001_toee-2011-10-26-23-07-25-63.bmp.jpg

Da Gnolls!!

pt4_0003_toee-2011-10-26-23-07-44-53.bmp.jpg

Nex.jpg
Eeewwww!!

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
No wonder it smelled dog shit!

Steroid.jpg
Doggies!

pt4_0003_toee-2011-10-26-23-07-44-53.bmp.jpg

Due to their homicidal instincts the party spurns negotiation with the unclean mutants furries lower lifeforms and it starts up violently.

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
Let's get heads rolling lasses!

Miss%20Bee.jpg
That's so retro. :P

Aislinn.jpg
Like from the 90s, and stuffies!

Nex.jpg
Whatever. Let's just get this over with...

As you can see Nex gracefully opens combat with accurately placed Grease

pt4_0004_toee-2011-10-26-23-08-50-14.bmp.jpg

Bee casts Produce Flame to improve her ranged capabilities, hitting the gnoll leader quite hard

We sort of wait up for the enemies to rush at us.

:rpgcodex: That's not how the true MEN fight. Bunch of pussies. :decline:

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
Sorry to break it to you Codex, but technically...

Nex.jpg
Let's put it this way. If a man's definition of tactical combat is rushing into the middle of a room with no plan whatsoever in the vain hope that somehow your screaming like a virgin, you are, will impress your enemies into submission, do we wish you luck. If not STFU, and let the professionals do their job.

:rpgcodex: :(

Steroid.jpg
Clausewitz gonna mad!!

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
Bee, hold him on that leash.

Miss%20Bee.jpg
I'm trying!! Hopefully we will get more enemies for him to slay before runs wild!

Aislinn.jpg
Men!

Nex.jpg
They are closing on us!

pt4_0005_toee-2011-10-26-23-09-54-52.bmp.jpg

Nex.jpg
Oh shit, that's way too close of the contact than I hope to have. Gross!

A gnoll manages to break through our first line of defences, fortunately suffering some major damage from attacks of opportunity. Unluckily, he strikes Nex where it hurts.

Nex.jpg
Aua! You will pay for that, tenfold!

Another one is Berzerker mode approaches and hits Clausewitz for 11 points!

pt4_0006_toee-2011-10-26-23-11-34-00.bmp.jpg

We are dealt some further damage but inflict some (butt)hurt too.

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
I hope you didn't mean the joke the way, I think you did.

pt4_0007_toee-2011-10-26-23-11-49-22.bmp.jpg

The goddamn Gnoll leader bashes Clausewitz for extra damage.

Steroid.jpg
Arghhh!!

pt4_0008_toee-2011-10-26-23-13-52-58.bmp.jpg

But him and another of his sidekicks are promptly sent to the worse world.

pt4_0009_toee-2011-10-26-23-14-09-65.bmp.jpg

As you noticed, the wait paid off. The berzeker gnoll's rage has ended and he is in weakened state.

We promptly send his companion to the lands of Hypnos.

pt4_0010_toee-2011-10-26-23-15-15-74.bmp.jpg

So we storm in as planned, provoking the attacks of so far retreated opponents, which set themselves on the barbarian, hurting him a bit.

pt4_0011_toee-2011-10-26-23-15-26-62.bmp.jpg

It doesn't matter in the long run: again Oneiroi aid us here.

pt4_0012_toee-2011-10-26-23-15-50-36.bmp.jpg

We flank our last standing foe and Anna Rexia slits his throat!

pt4_0013_toee-2011-10-26-23-16-01-34.bmp.jpg

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
The end!

Next we go straight searching for our next victim. We stumble upon...

pt4_0014_toee-2011-10-26-23-19-08-21.bmp.jpg

Nex.jpg
A giant crayfish? :retarded:

Steroid.jpg
Seafood!!

pt4_0015_toee-2011-10-26-23-19-47-51.bmp.jpg

Before we can actually turn the crayfish into something edible, it puts up a major fight.

The girls swarm it. Witches cast their last 0 level spells to do just a little bit more damage, and Bee heals Clausewitz with everything she has got.

In the end we prevail!

pt4_0016_toee-2011-10-26-23-19-56-96.bmp.jpg

But FRAPS kinda phailed me this time. :(

Nex.jpg
Excuses :x

This turns out to be the onset of an avalanche of misfortune.

pt4_0017_toee-2011-10-26-23-27-14-42.bmp.jpg

Next, after having some decent beauty sleep our heroines head a corridor to the south, and Anna Rexia intimidates the guards.

Which I have no proof of – guess why.

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
Yeah, right

pt4_0018_toee-2011-10-26-23-29-28-09.bmp.jpg

Then we face our primary threat. Not without some major pre-emptive pre-buffing: Barkskin on Clausewitz and Anna Rexia + Cat's Grace on Anna + Mage's Armour on Witches.

Steroid.jpg
Clausewitz do the talking!

Miss%20Bee.jpg
Nooooo!

Nex.jpg
Yet again

pt4_0019_toee-2011-10-26-23-29-33-34.bmp.jpg

pt4_0020_toee-2011-10-26-23-29-37-54.bmp.jpg

Steroid.jpg
That don't talk Clausewitz :(

Nex.jpg
Dear gods.

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
Make way! I will handle this my style!

pt4_0021_toee-2011-10-26-23-29-52-78.bmp.jpg

You were saying something? :troll:

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
:(

***Ostateczna konfrontacja***

pt4_0022_toee-2011-10-26-23-30-14-19.bmp.jpg

So there it starts!

Nex opens with confrontation with a Sleep spell taking down(?) two foes.

toee-2011-10-26-23-30-41-24.jpg

You may wonder then: why is one of them conscious on this screenie. The truth is – the soldiers wake each other up!

Nex.jpg
That's fucking bullshit! :x

Anyway, Aislinn stands up to the challenge and with Greater Enchantment Focus she doesn't even have to make an effort:

Aislinn.jpg
Guys

pt4_0023_toee-2011-10-26-23-31-22-25.bmp.jpg

Anna is hurt a little, but she'll survive...

Nex.jpg
You think so? Judging from her previous mishappenings she should fall down in like 6 turns tops.

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
BITCH!!1111

Nex.jpg
:troll:

pt4_0023_toee-2011-10-26-23-31-22-25.bmp.jpg

All goes fine and dandy until THIS...

pt4_0024_toee-2011-10-26-23-31-50-14.bmp.jpg

happens. At this point I go like
RageFace.png

Reinforcements are coming!

Aislinn.jpg
For us?!

Miss%20Bee.jpg
You'd wish :(

Anyways, Aislinn casts Sleep on more soldiers.

pt4_0025_toee-2011-10-26-23-32-18-47.bmp.jpg

To her horror Miss Bee realises that one cannot choose a creature when summoning one from a scroll.

Miss%20Bee.jpg
:x

Our summon turns out to be a small water elemental!

Miss%20Bee.jpg
&%*# it!!! :rage:

Aislinn.jpg
How unbecoming of you Bee!

Miss%20Bee.jpg
That &$#% can stick his ^%#! in his $&^@! :rage:

Aislinn.jpg

Miss%20Bee.jpg
*#$@&! :x

pt4_0026_toee-2011-10-26-23-33-00-16.bmp.jpg

Anyway, Nex summons Grease and Aislinn makes herself another thrall...

Aislinn.jpg
:smug:

pt4_0027_toee-2011-10-26-23-33-26-72.bmp.jpg

Finally, Lareth himself engages the fight. In a very Stereotypical Villainy manner, he gloats about his impending victory.

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
Over my dead body!

pt4_0028_toee-2011-10-26-23-34-34-98.bmp.jpg

Nex casts Web to entrap our foes.

Did I mentioned that Clausewitz was locked in combat with one grunt who he fails to scratch in 5 consecutive turns?

Nex.jpg
Shame on you, you bloody oaf!

Steroid.jpg
Accuracy's fer da weak :rpgcodex:

pt4_0029_toee-2011-10-26-23-36-44-24.bmp.jpg

Here the things go down to shit. Where did the Web go, you ask? What about charmed slaves? What about water elemental? Well, the truth is, Lareth managed to cast Dispel Magic and destroy ALL of our spells!

Anna Rexia gets tripped by a misplaced Grease spell and our former ally severely wounds her.

The grunt critics our Barbarian just like that!

Anna%20Rexia.jpg
We are so screwed!

At this turn of events our half-orc barbarian enters bloody frenzy!

Steroid.jpg
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! :rage:

pt4_0030_toee-2011-10-26-23-37-11-81.bmp.jpg

The witches try to save the day by tranquillizing everyone with Sleep scrolls.

pt4_0031_toee-2011-10-26-23-41-04-12.bmp.jpg

Miss Bee summons another beast. To her deep regret...

Miss%20Bee.jpg
#%*@#@!! :rage:

it's a small water elemental again.

Lareth unleashes two sound-bursts at our witches stunning Aislinn and Nex for two and one turns respectively.

pt4_0032_toee-2011-10-26-23-42-54-22.bmp.jpg

Nex summons another Web. Clausewitz, still engaged in combat with the very same and still very breathing guardsman gets critical hit by him!

pt4_0033_toee-2011-10-26-23-43-14-15.bmp.jpg

Words fail me...

Nex.jpg
Well, she lasted a little bit more than 6 turns :troll:

A turn later Lareth casts Command and paralyses our orc.

Miss%20Bee.jpg
Not all is lost, if I can heal Clausewitz with this Cure Moderate Wounds scroll...

pt4_0035_toee-2011-10-26-23-44-10-25.bmp.jpg

pt4_0036_toee-2011-10-26-23-44-46-20.bmp.jpg

First the 'Master' hammers the barbarian's head. Then, the guardsman finishes the job.

Steroid.jpg
My... life... is... mmhm... flushing... before my eyes...

After that FRAPS fucked me over again and didn't save any of the screenshots that followed.

Maybe it's for the best that you can only imagine what happened.

toee-2011-10-29-01-22-35-97.jpg

*Koniec*

As you can see the party got totally screwed over in every way imaginable.

First of all – I behaved like a real MAN, got too cocky and permitted the fight in the wide open area where it was difficult to defend.

Secondly, the way how soon Lareth reacted to the attack surprised me – probably it was triggered by the Charm spell Aislinn cast on the Sergeant.

Thirdly, it was a mixture of very BAD rolls in everything we did there, but miraculously good for the enemies (all those critics!).

Also, I didn't have the best spell in the game(TM) because I didn't select it on a level up for Nex and Burne didn't have its copy.

What can I say? It's the end...

Btw, do you know of any good free image capturing program that can capture images from ToEE, apart from FRAPS? :troll: ;)

That's one fight you should never underestimate.

So, what shall it be? Restart? Reload? Reload + replace everyone?

I vote for reload on TPK. restart just means we'll see levels 1-5 ad nauseam. Reload + replace means we'll run out of adventurers and andventuresses really quickly.

If you *must* be bloodthirsty, roll 1d5 and kill a random PC on TPK. But TBH that's a rather anticlimactic way to go.

As an aside, Bee the Crooked, Roxorowski and The Spekkmeister have developed an incredibly cheesy tactic in an alternate reality. Roxorowski/Spekkmeister use their polearms (glaive and longspear respectively) to make trip attacks outside of an enemys reach. (So they don't provoke attacks of oppertunity). This allows Bee to sneak attack the brone enemy and gives us 3 attacks of oppertunity when they stand up. also, having 2 polearm-weiling meatshields with combat reflexes ready vs approach at the edge of a grease spell quickly turns a corridor into a killing zone.

indeed, was extremely fun to watch, especially that dispel magic that removed the charms too, i don't think ive ever had that one happen in my games :D

i agree with above, reload and if necessary, just come up with some punishment for the TPK.

Speaking of TPK, when you do manage to finish that fight, DON'T go out the back of the moathouse. Backtrack the way you came in. the Co8 addition to the secret exit is utter bullshit considering people will be going into it at half health withtheir spells mostly used :P

I think it's the new Co8 version which does this, Lareth also showed-up early on the two attempts it took me. I like this btw, makes more sense than him gently waiting in the next room while his guards get slaughtered.

It's not that easy anymore, "they" will be waiting for you at the main entry too.

Lareth shows up when 2 troops are down. It was always like that in the public releases. (except that before 5.9.3 he wouldn't come out at all). In internal testing it used to be more, but in my experience even waiting for 3 troops down made it too easy. Heh.

If you want to cheese it out, you can just withdraw to the corridor - Lareth's AI will remain inactive due to the large distance, so he will patiently wait until you step inside the big room. Alternately, you can pursue the Ug Ug Ug route where the Lieutenant leaves you alone, and bring your whole party to Lareth's chambers. He will call out to his men, but at least they'll be bottlenecked. Then again you only have one meatshield, so maybe that won't work.

BTW, the waking up of sleeping soldiers was inspired by KotC. :salute:
