Since it looks like solo option is going to win anyway, I'll probably put up one more poll in the BG2 thread, when it starts: solo/core with mods or solo/insane unmodded. The difficulty level should be similar.

Anyway, Bonus Update #3 is a bit delayed, but it should appear this week, or early next.

I am very late with this one, as it was supposed to be posted in mid-January. Thankfully, nobody really cares.
I finally managed to gather enough motivation and time to write it. So, without further delay, I present:

Bonus Update #3A: Never Happened, part I

Enjoy. Please?

Note: events from this update (which takes place after Friendly Arm Inn) happened accidentally, as I was looking for the first stat book - the one in sirines' cave - and had chosen the wrong area (damn you, faulty memory!). After exploring whole of it, and not finding the cave, I slowly began to realize my mistake and finally decided to load an earlier save. Why did I do that - no idea. Especially considering the pain The Codex and me went through (a lot), and rewards we got (rather nice).

The narration will be provided from an unaware point of view, the death count will be counted separate from any other.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright, everyone. This is it. We are getting first book of permaboost in this update, which means we'll have to deal with sirines and golems. That should be fun, right?

codex_m.jpg
That depends what you mean by 'fun'.

I mean you dying a lot, in various ways, or even many times the same way.

codex_m.jpg
Thanks for the reassurance.

Let's move on, then:
bu3_Baldr000.jpg

If I remember correctly, this is the area we should be heading to.

bu3_Baldr001.jpg

After a moderately long journey, we enter the "coast" part of the Sword Coast.

bu3_Baldr002.jpg

The Codex' stats so far. Level ups are inbound!

codex_m.jpg
Good.

bu3_Baldr003.jpg

That cave bear shouldn't stay there for long.

bu3_Baldr004.jpg

We begin with resting, mostly to refresh the spell list.

bu3_Baldr005.jpg

It all starts innocently - with a classic wolf.

bu3_Baldr006.jpg

Which dies fast.

codex_m.jpg
I'm way past considering your kind a threat, wolfie.

bu3_Baldr007.jpg

Soon enough we meet a completely unsuspiscious, scantily-clad, blue-skinned chick.

codex_m.jpg
Hello there, lady!

I'd like to warn You...

bu3_Baldr008.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Oh, yes!

Wait...

bu3_Baldr009.jpg

Suit Yourself.

Death count: One

Loading.

codex_m.jpg
A kiss of death? That is so cliched, it hurts.

Well, this game isn't exactly known for its originality, is it?

codex_m.jpg
Right. Let's move on.

You want to omit Shoal's quest?

codex_m.jpg
If part of her quest is me dying, then yes.

If You had a party members, You could make one of them kiss Shoal and force her to resurrect the dead after beating the crap out of her.

codex_m.jpg
Well, I do not have party members, so no go.

Oh, that can be arranged.

bu3_Baldr010.jpg

HMW2_S.jpg
This thread needs more Paco.

codex_m.jpg
Whoa! What's going on?

I think we can make an exception this time. I'll give You a party member to sacrifice help You in the situation.

codex_m.jpg
Alright, but not him. He'll screw the Nereid three times and probably not die after.

True.

bu3_Baldr011.jpg

msS.jpg
Time for some collar-grabbin'!

codex_m.jpg
Man! No! Show some respect!

Alright, alright.

bu3_Baldr012.jpg

tes4_s.jpg
I saw a mudcrab yesterday.

codex_m.jpg
Ooookaaaay... Who's that?

bu3_Baldr013.jpg

Oblivion is a joke... I mean joker... I mean jester. He has just the right stats to be able to help with kissing Shoal the Nereid, and not much else.

codex_m.jpg
Sold!

bu3_Baldr014.jpg

We make Oblivion talk to Shoal.

codex_m.jpg
Yeah, there you go. Enjoy the little blue tongue there, as what follows is not that pleasant...

bu3_Baldr015.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Oblivion! No! This can't be! She killed you! Why don't you try that with me, bitch!?

Actually, she already...

codex_m.jpg
Shut up, You're ruining my Oscar scene!

bu3_Baldr016.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Yeah, this!

Shoal does not present much of a challenge for our hero.

bu3_Baldr017.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Oh shit, an ogre mage!

Don't worry, You'll be fine.

codex_m.jpg
I will?

bu3_Baldr018.jpg

Sure, You've got Oblivion here to help You.

tes4_s.jpg
Mudcrab?

codex_m.jpg
Fuck you both.

bu3_Baldr019.jpg

Droth the ogre mage soon makes himself invisible, our hero only manages to wound him once before that happens.

codex_m.jpg
So, what now? I don't have any means of dispelling that.

You're probably fucked then.

bu3_Baldr020.jpg

codex_m.jpg
There he izzzzz... *snore*

Yup, fucked.

Sorry, no death screenshot.

Death count: 2

Loading.

codex_m.jpg
Aren't we a little over our heads trying to kill an ogre mage?

What, are You chickening out? Oblivion and I could do this without You, You know.

codex_m.jpg
Shut up, and bring him on!

bu3_Baldr021.jpg

Since Drog Droth doesn't fight in melee, I remove The Codex' armour for this combat.

bu3_Baldr022.jpg

Here he comes.

bu3_Baldr023.jpg

And the result seems to be similar to the one before...

bu3_Baldr024.jpg

...but not quite.

codex_m.jpg
Yes, master, I will shoot myself in the back with an arrow.

The Codex is not actually dead, but the game treats the situation as if he was. Oh well.

Death count: 3

Loading.

codex_m.jpg
I am sure it will be much better next time.

Really?

codex_m.jpg
No.

bu3_Baldr025.jpg

Since I'm starting to get desperate...

codex_m.jpg
What?

I mean: to explore all the possibilities, we try to set some snare traps on Drog's Droth's way.

bu3_Baldr026.jpg

Success!?

codex_m.jpg
Why are you so surprised?

No reason.

bu3_Baldr027.jpg

Here he comes again.

bu3_Baldr028.jpg

Not sure if the trap even worked - probably not. The damage You can see ine the screenshot is from an arrow.
Anyway, we managed to disrupt his spellcasting, which is always a plus. Let's hope the good luck streak does not end here.

bu3_Baldr029.jpg

Oblivion falls asleep, but our brave hero resists the spell!

codex_m.jpg
Yeah, I rule, and stuff.

Why sound so discouraged?

codex_m.jpg
Going to be dead in a moment anyway.

Maybe we can make it this time!

bu3_Baldr030.jpg

:rage:

bu3_Baldr031.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Yes, master, I know stabbing myself in the gut is good for me.

Death count: 4

Loading.

codex_m.jpg
That was fucking unpleasant.

Bear with me just a while longer.

codex_m.jpg
Not that I have any other choice.

bu3_Baldr032.jpg

We try set snare again, but no go. The first one just fails, but the second is a critical error and hurts our hero.

codex_m.jpg
One word about my trap setting skills and I will drive this sword through...

Ok, ok. I'm silent.

bu3_Baldr033.jpg

Criticize Oblivion if You have to, but he's quite the punching bag.

bu3_Baldr034.jpg

I was torn if I should even publish this screenshot, as it is kind of embarassing for everyone here - Oblivion made a save against Sleep, while The Codex did not. What has the world come to?

And just wait a minute. The codex is an elf. Shouldn't he be, like, immune to sleep? Goddamn cheating game!

tes4_s.jpg
Mudcrab?

Shut up!

bu3_Baldr035.jpg

Oblivion manages to resist Dire Charm too, a feat The Codex hasn't yet managed to achieve.

This feels like playing Blood Bowl with elves and watching the opponent's dwarf team dodge around like balet dancers, while your own players trip over their own feet. Fucking dice.

Uh, where was I?

Oh.

Oblivion and his one remaining HP are in the middle of a heroic duel with Droth.

bu3_Baldr036.jpg

It doesn't last long, though.

bu3_Baldr037.jpg

And The Codex does not wake up in time to save his own life.

Death count: 5

Loading.

codex_m.jpg
I kind of fell asleep there. How much did I miss?

Shut up, and let's try again.

bu3_Baldr038.jpg

After drinking an oil of speed, we try to set snare again, but without much hope for success.

codex_m.jpg
ThatsInsulting!

bu3_Baldr039.jpg

Droth arrives and he's immediately greeted by a barrage of arrows.

bu3_Baldr040.jpg

The Codex dodges the spell, that puts Oblivion to sleep, by walking running out of its range - and spikes Droth with more arrows, one after another, disrupting his spellcasting.

codex_m.jpg
LookingGoodSoFar!

bu3_Baldr041.jpg

And Dire Charm is resisted! Hell yeah!

codex_m.jpg
HellYeah!

bu3_Baldr042.jpg

codex_m.jpg
BoomGutshotFuckYeah!

Yeah, stopping him from casting spells was the tactic against Droth.

bu3_Baldr043.jpg

codex_m.jpg
DontThinkIHaveForgottenAboutYou.

We don't want Oblivion to contaminate our game world. He would have disappeared when kicked out of the party, but this solution is even better.

bu3_Baldr044.jpg

codex_m.jpg
WheresMyRewardYouUngratefulBitch?

bu3_Baldr045.jpg

Will this helmet suffice?

codex_m.jpg
Maybe.

bu3_Baldr046.jpg

Bye bye, Oblivion, You will not be missed.

bu3_Baldr047.jpg

codex_m.jpg
WowNotBad!

Indeed, it's quite good. Especially that magical helmets are not very common in this game. Being able to get it so early doesn't hurt either.

bu3_Baldr048.jpg

Saving throws bonus from Helmet of Defense is cumulative with the one from Ring of Protection making The Codex' saving throws pretty decent - meaning about 50% chance of resisting spells.

bu3_Baldr049.jpg

And there's also the less useful 20% resistance to elements.

codex_m.jpg
FascinatingExceptItsBoringAsFuck.

After this rather lengthy distraction, we can finally move on.

bu3_Baldr050.jpg

We don't get far before meeting some natives.

codex_m.jpg
Ghouls? IWasExpectingSomethingMoreImaginative. YouKnowBeingOnTheCoastAndAll.

bu3_Baldr051.jpg

We win the unexpectedly difficult combat and The Codex levels up!

codex_m.jpg
:yeah:

bu3_Baldr052.jpg

codex_m.jpg
WellWellLookAtThat!

A very nice find indeed.

bu3_Baldr053.jpg

Dual thief/mage level up.

bu3_Baldr054.jpg

The Codex will now be able to cast level 2 spells, which is good since we've just found one that is very useful

bu3_Baldr055.jpg

And Droth has replaced cave bear as the fattest kill so far. Not for long, though.

bu3_Baldr056.jpg

A quick 96-hour rest before moving on.

bu3_Baldr057.jpg

Ghouls seem to be a common sight here. No wonder the coast is all but deserted.

bu3_Baldr058.jpg

codex_m.jpg
One ghoul is no challenge for me and sword!

bu3_Baldr060.jpg

Further on the coast, we meet some carrion crawlers.

codex_m.jpg
Ew. These things creep me out every time.

bu3_Baldr061.jpg

They are defeated but not without problems, as their THAC0 is pretty good.

bu3_Baldr062.jpg

The abandoned ship can be looted.

codex_m.jpg
That's really exciting. What sort of treasures will we find on a whole ship of a container?

bu3_Baldr063.jpg

One ring.

codex_m.jpg
I am fucking disappoint.

bu3_Baldr064.jpg

And it's a cursed one.

codex_m.jpg
:rage:

bu3_Baldr065.jpg

We give (actually: return) the ring to a nerby standing mad gnome for a reward and some XP.

codex_m.jpg
"Mad gnome"? That's as much as saying "short dwarf", if you ask me.

Well, I don't.

bu3_Baldr066.jpg

We got this oil for the ring. Quite a bargain, considering that the ring is fucking useless.

bu3_Baldr067.jpg

More carrion crawlers. I guess they like the weather on the coast.

codex_m.jpg
They will enjoy it no more, as it's dark and cold where I'll send them!

Poetic.

bu3_Baldr068.jpg

Well... Shit.

Death count: 6

Loading.

codex_m.jpg
Not. A. Word.

So... was it dark and cold where You're returning from?

codex_m.jpg
What the fuck did I just say!

On the plus side, carrion crawlers are not there after the reload. They must have gone to some inn to get drunk celebrating killing the protagonist of the game, or something.

bu3_Baldr069.jpg

Further exploration brings us to this spot, with an ogrillon waiting for us.

codex_m.jpg
What are these fruits of perversion? Half-ogres, half-?

Orcs, if I'm correct.

codex_m.jpg
Where do they come from then? I haven't seen a single orc anywhere here. Will I meet some later?

Not in this game, no.

codex_m.jpg
It doesn't make any fucking sense!

bu3_Baldr070.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Boom! Headshot!

That was surprisingly easy.

codex_m.jpg
Yeah, whatever they are, they're not ogre-level challenge.

bu3_Baldr071.jpg

codex_m.jpg
HOLY FUCKING SHIT! RETREAT!

bu3_Baldr072.jpg

codex_m.jpg
It doesn't fucking look very good.

Yeah, especially that some half-ogre joined the chase.

bu3_Baldr073.jpg

As well as another ogre, it seems.

codex_m.jpg
There's many of them and all bigger than me! It's like high school all over again!

bu3_Baldr074.jpg

codex_m.jpg
I can't outrun them, it seems, so that's it. This is where I make my final stand!

Ok. Good luck.

bu3_Baldr075.jpg

codex_m.jpg
On second thought, I think I'll try escaping one more time!

Ok. Good idea.

bu3_Baldr076.jpg

Oh, look, ghouls.

codex_m.jpg
GEEZUS FUCKING KREIST NOT NOW!

bu3_Baldr077.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Shit!

So... What now?

bu3_Baldr078.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Only three of them followed. I might have a chance here!

Ok. Good luck.

bu3_Baldr079.jpg

Yeah, I didn't think so.

Death count: Se7en

Loading.

codex_m.jpg
Let's kill them one a time, shall we.

I was thinking along the same lines.

bu3_Baldr080.jpg

Let's start with this berserker here.

codex_m.jpg
What exactly is the difference between an ogre and ogre berserker?

You don't want the latter to hit You.

codex_m.jpg
I'm not exactly very keen on being hit by a regular ogre too, you know. But I think I get it.

bu3_Baldr081.jpg

We use the run&shoot tactics, but the ogre has good enough AC to laugh off most of The Codex' efforts.

bu3_Baldr082.jpg

We do manage to wound him considerably before reaching a dead end. Will it be enough to defeat him in melee?

codex_m.jpg
I somehow doubt that.

bu3_Baldr083.jpg

And the doubts were indeed well-founded, as everyone no doubt can see.

Death count: 8

Loading.

codex_m.jpg
So, that is the difference between being hit by an ogre an being hit by an ogre berserker.

Did it hurt much?

codex_m.jpg
Not really. Either my pain threshold was immediately exceeded or I died so fast there was no time to feel pain.

Oh, it's cool then.

codex_m.jpg
No it's not fucking "cool"! Dying is far from fucking being "cool"!

bu3_Baldr084.jpg

Before we approach the ogres one more time, The Codex stops for a quick 64-hour rest.

bu3_Baldr085.jpg

And there's our berserker.

bu3_Baldr086.jpg

Oops, one step too far.

codex_m.jpg
I'll give you fucking "oops" when I get my hands on you someday!

bu3_Baldr087.jpg

While retreating, we pass a pair of carrion crawlers having sex (?). Anyway, it's quite disturbing.

codex_m.jpg
You can say that again! And I fucking hate running with my eyes closed!

bu3_Baldr088.jpg

Since I'm not sure what was the cause of death here, I will assume that The Codex tripped, fell and killed himself by, I don't know, hitting a stone with his head.

What do You mean "too much Blood Bowl"?

Death count: 9

Loading.

codex_m.jpg
It wouldn't be that difficult if not for the fucking respawning enemies.

Let's try a slightly different approach.

bu3_Baldr089.jpg

We prepare to throw our newly acquired oil of burning. Keen reader eyes might notice that The Codex is hurt a bit. That's because I forgot to save the game after resting last time.

bu3_Baldr090.jpg

After a misleading "gulp", we get a lot of messages about ogres getting damaged. The numbers are not very impressive, though.

codex_m.jpg
So, what exactly have we achieved?

bu3_Baldr091.jpg

We managed to piss them off.

codex_m.jpg
Just fucking perfect.

bu3_Baldr092.jpg

being chased by two berserkers and two half-ogres, The Codex has no choice but to drink a potion of invisibility to save his life.

codex_m.jpg
Whew, that was close.

And since You're already invisible...

codex_m.jpg
What since then?

Let's try backstabbing with a two-handed sword. I'm curious if it works.

codex_m.jpg
What? No.

bu3_Baldr093.jpg

Pretty please...

codex_m.jpg
Huh? No! Fuck you! Don't make me do this! Aaaarrrrrgh!

bu3_Baldr094.jpg

If someone's interested, there was a "weapon unsuitable for backstabbing" message before the death screen appeared.

Death count: 10

Loading.

codex_m.jpg
Happy now?

Quite.

bu3_Baldr095.jpg

We hide and approach the ogres to assess the danger level.

codex_m.jpg
I'm assessing it as pretty fucking high.

bu3_Baldr096.jpg

Oh yeah, stealth failed at one moment. Forgot to make screenshots while trying to outrun the ogres.

Death count: 11

Reload.

codex_m.jpg
Happy now?

Depends. I'm always happy to see You die, but I'm getting a bit fed up with being stuck here.

codex_m.jpg
Have I already told you to go and fuck yourself today?

Maybe? Wasn't really listening.

bu3_Baldr097.jpg

We approach the problem from another angle to get rid of the half-ogre visible in the screenshot. The NPC standing nearby The Codex is Surgeon, Daveorn's brother who provides a handy full heal for people fucked (not literally) by Shoal the Nereid.

bu3_Baldr098.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Not so tough without your friends, huh!?

bu3_Baldr099.jpg

I may have forgotten to save the game before clicking to loot the half-ogre...

codex_m.jpg
I hate you so much.

bu3_Baldr100.jpg

codex_m.jpg
You want a piece of me!? OW! FUCK! Ok, you can have a piece of me, just don't kill me!

bu3_Baldr101.jpg

codex_m.jpg
HELL FUCKING YEAH SWORD! WE ROCK! SLAUGHTER!

You can act all tough now, but we all heard You whine just a second ago.

codex_m.jpg
That was... a feint! To distract the ogre!

Right.

bu3_Baldr102.jpg

This time we save and rest (176 hours).

bu3_Baldr103.jpg

Another half-ogre is awaiting death.

bu3_Baldr104.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Oh yeah, straight through his heart!

Another one down. We're doing pretty good.

bu3_Baldr105.jpg

The second berserker. You want to count on Your luck to be there again?

codex_m.jpg
Hell no.

Shoot'n'Run then.

bu3_Baldr106.jpg

We retreat all the way to Arcand while shooting back - but The Codex manages to get some hits in, from time to time.

codex_m.jpg
How about we switch places, and you run away from brutes wanting to beat the crap out of you, while I make smart-ass comments about it?

If I wanted that kind of excitement, I would've gone to a local football match.

bu3_Baldr107.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Shit shit shit!

Better run away...

codex_m.jpg
Thanks for the fucking hint.

bu3_Baldr108.jpg

Oh. Unlucky.

codex_m.jpg
:rage:

bu3_Baldr109.jpg

Somehow we managed to outrun the carrion crawlers, but the ogre is persistent - and fast.

bu3_Baldr110.jpg

It's not, however, immortal.

codex_m.jpg
Boom! Headshot!

bu3_Baldr111.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Look what we have here!

Uh. Elev.. no, ten-o-clock!

codex_m.jpg
What?

bu3_Baldr112.jpg

Carrion crawler, that's what.

codex_m.jpg
Oh. One of these is no problem.

bu3_Baldr113.jpg

How about two?

Huh?

Oh, You're already paralyzed. Forget I said anything.

bu3_Baldr114.jpg

Death count: 12

Loading.

codex_m.jpg
These fucking things live near water?

Seems so, yes.

codex_m.jpg
I'm fucking moving into a desert.

bu3_Baldr115.jpg

So yeah, we have to fight the ogre berserker AGAIN.

codex_m.jpg
No sweat. I killed him once, I can do it again.

bu3_Baldr116.jpg

To limit collateral damage, I find this spot near Arcand. We can run around the rock in the middle, shooting back at the ogre.

bu3_Baldr117.jpg

It's kind of slow, but works.

bu3_Baldr118.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Here, ogrey-ogrey.

bu3_Baldr119.jpg

codex_m.jpg
And he's down!

bu3_Baldr120.jpg

He even dropped the same scroll. Either it's a fixed drop or it's randomized when the monsters are spawned, not when killed.

Bonus Update #3B: Never Happened, part II

bu3_Baldr121.jpg

We get attacked by a dire wolf when trying to rest.

codex_m.jpg
Why try to rest if I'm at full health?

Stinking Cloud.

codex_m.jpg
Oh. Good thinking.

bu3_Baldr122.jpg

Wolf is no challenge for The Codex.

bu3_Baldr123.jpg

Another wolf pack attacks our hero.

codex_m.jpg
A wolf pack... Disguised as a ghast?

Don't look at me, I'm just reading the description.

bu3_Baldr124.jpg

codex_m.jpg
MWAHAHAHAHA! DECAPITATION!

Ghast is quickly and easily slain.

bu3_Baldr125.jpg

And he drops Resist Fear, or whatever it's called.

bu3_Baldr126.jpg

Finally we manage to rest and now have Stinking Cloud in our arsenal.

bu3_Baldr127.jpg

We employ it immediately.

codex_m.jpg
I will now fuck you up like there's no tomorrow. Because there is no tomorrow. At least, not for you.

bu3_Baldr128.jpg

Suffice to say, not everything went according to the plan.

No idea. Let's procede like it never happened.

codex_m.jpg
Agreed.

bu3_Baldr129.jpg

codex_m.jpg
DIE, MOTHERFUCKER, DIE!

bu3_Baldr130.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Hey there, want some arrows?

bu3_Baldr131.jpg

He fainted.

codex_m.jpg
My sheer awesomeness must have overwhelmed him.

No doubt.

bu3_Baldr132.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Ha! I like these guys so much more when they don't fight back!

bu3_Baldr133.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Not feeling so cocky when alone, huh, gramps?

bu3_Baldr134.jpg

Yeah, someone definitely was feeling cocky here.

bu3_Baldr135.jpg

Um... I've already used up my smart-ass death comment on the previous screenshot.

Death count: 2000

Loading.

codex_m.jpg
I had a dream that my brains were spilling out of my head through a huge crack in my skull.

That was not a dream.

codex_m.jpg
Oh.

bu3_Baldr136.jpg

Of course we did not save the game after killing the ogrillons, so we'll have to do it again.

codex_m.jpg
Oh fuck. Can I just repeat my previous battle taunts and cheers?

Nope.

codex_m.jpg
Fuck you.

bu3_Baldr137.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Good job bow!

bu3_Baldr138.jpg

codex_m.jpg
What the fuck? An ogrillon hunchback?

He's probably just getting up after a successful saving throw.

codex_m.jpg
I like my version much more.

bu3_Baldr139.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Did not get far, huh, fucker?

bu3_Baldr140.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Eat grass, grass-eater!

bu3_Baldr141.jpg

Watch out, that's the ogre!

codex_m.jpg
Yeah, like I can't see for myself.

bu3_Baldr142.jpg

Wich part of "watch out" did You not under... ah, forget it.

Death count: 666

Loading.

codex_m.jpg
I think I swallowed some of my teeth when that club hit my jaw. Also, I am beginning to feel a grudge against that ogre.

bu3_Baldr143.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Back to the boring chores: killing ogrillons.

bu3_Baldr144.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Sweet mother of mercy! WHAT THE FUCK!?

Potion.

bu3_Baldr145.jpg

codex_m.jpg
YEAH, SLAUGHTER, FUCK YOU!

You are full of negative emotions.

codex_m.jpg
FUCK YOU TOO!

bu3_Baldr146.jpg

In before "the other ogrillon is now limp". He's just getting up too.

codex_m.jpg
Fuck it! The ogre's asleep, that's our chance!

bu3_Baldr147.jpg

Yeah, one hell of a chance we got there.

Death count: Dracula.

Loading.

codex_m.jpg
Can't we just skip the ogres?

No.

bu3_Baldr148.jpg

This time it takes a while for at least one of them to fail a saving throw.

bu3_Baldr149.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Conveniently it's the one closest to me.

bu3_Baldr150.jpg

We kill the one ogrillon and get rushed by another one. Meanwhile, a good thing happens and a bad thing happens. The good one is that the ogre falls unconscious and the bad that The Codex' sword breaks.

codex_m.jpg
Noooooo! Swoooooord!

Luckily, we have a spare.

bu3_Baldr151.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Mwahahahaha! Slaughter! Oh fuck! Ogre!

bu3_Baldr152.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Boom! Headshot! Fuck! He barely even noticed!

That's because he doesn't have any important internal organs in there.

bu3_Baldr153.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Ignore this! HA!

Yes!

bu3_Baldr154.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Farewell, brave sword, you shall be remembered.

Probably not.

codex_m.jpg
Yeah, probably not.

bu3_Baldr155.jpg

We can finally move on to meeting... more ogrillons.

codex_m.jpg
:rage:

bu3_Baldr156.jpg

And there's a lot of them too.

codex_m.jpg
Three ain't exactly a lot, but it IS too much.

bu3_Baldr157.jpg

And we begin The Death Race 3000: Around the Rock Hill.

bu3_Baldr158.jpg

It's all good until they get the idea of going in opposite directions.

codex_m.jpg
Ffffuuuuu...!

bu3_Baldr159.jpg

But we somehow manage to become their mother duck again.

bu3_Baldr160.jpg

Wow, we even made some damage!

codex_m.jpg
Fuck. You.

bu3_Baldr161.jpg

One down!

codex_m.jpg
Yeah!

bu3_Baldr162.jpg

Two down!

codex_m.jpg
Fuck yeah!

bu3_Baldr163.jpg

Three down!

codex_m.jpg
:yeah:

bu3_Baldr164.jpg

After a quick-save, we move on again. This time we encounter ghouls.

codex_m.jpg
I would complain about the monster variety here, but then you would no doubt force me to play Dragon Age and fight darkspawn every two minutes.

You've managed to acquire quite a respectable amount of wisdom.

bu3_Baldr165.jpg

Ghouls are not even ghasts, so they don't really constitute much of a threat to our hero.

bu3_Baldr166.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Fuuuck! No...!

bu3_Baldr167.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Get away from me you ugly motherfuckers!

Paralyze in 3... 2... 1...

bu3_Baldr168.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Yes!

One down. Kind of surprising.

bu3_Baldr169.jpg

Ah, yes, reapers just as expected.

Death count: De Monet.

Load game.

codex_m.jpg
I really fucking hate these worms.

bu3_Baldr170.jpg

We had a recent save game this time. After a reload, carrion crawlers respawned into... kobolds.

codex_m.jpg
Whew... Uh, I mean: pity I won't be able to lay my vengeance upon them.

bu3_Baldr171.jpg

Kobolds die quickly.

bu3_Baldr172.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Well, hello there...

Stop. Don't You see that she's hostile?

codex_m.jpg
Most women I meet are hostile. Or become hostile when I talk to them. I can't let that discourage me!

bu3_Baldr173.jpg

We move back a little to prepare.

bu3_Baldr174.jpg

Hide in shadows will ensure The Codex getting the first strike.

bu3_Baldr176.jpg

We start with Charm Person.

codex_m.jpg
Nice legs there, honey. Would you like me to check if they're clean-shaven?

bu3_Baldr177.jpg

For some reason, she did not fall for that one.

codex_m.jpg
Curses!

"Curses"?

codex_m.jpg
Uh, sorry. I meant: FUCK!

bu3_Baldr178.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Yes, beautiful lady I will lick the underwater stones until they turn to dust.

Death count: 999.

Loading.

codex_m.jpg
You did not have to reload. She may have wanted to make me her sex-slave.

Oh, we can load the game all the way back to Droth the ogre mage, if You want that kind of experience...

codex_m.jpg
Forget I said anything.

bu3_Baldr180.jpg

Another attempt at Charm.

codex_m.jpg
You be the biscuits and I'll be the gravy, let us do breakfast sometime.

Ouch.

bu3_Baldr181.jpg

Charm was not successful (surprise!). For some reason I decided that it's worth to attempt to cast Sleep.

bu3_Baldr182.jpg

The funny thing is, it worked...

codex_m.jpg
Yes!

bu3_Baldr183.jpg

Sleeping sirine is much less of a challenge to our hero.

codex_m.jpg
Damn! She was totally sleeping there. Should have taken advant-

Stop. Do not finish that sentence.

bu3_Baldr184.jpg

Turnes out our sirine has had a bunch of rather angry friends nearby.

bu3_Baldr185.jpg

We decide to employ our fool-proof "put them to sleep" tactic.

codex_m.jpg
So, maybe now I can-

Stop.

bu3_Baldr186.jpg

Stinking Cloud should be a good opening spell for that.

bu3_Baldr187.jpg

We have some success from the start.

codex_m.jpg
Nice.

bu3_Baldr188.jpg

We add Sleep to the mix, as a precaution.

bu3_Baldr189.jpg

codex_m.jpg
I'd call it a partial success...

It might still become a complete failure.

bu3_Baldr190.jpg

codex_m.jpg
I am sorry, miss, I did not want to kill your friends. I will stab myself repeateadly in the eye for that now.

Death count: Pi

Loading.

codex_m.jpg
If I did not kill one of them, it could've ended with a threesome.

That's as probable as You finishing this game without dying even once more.

bu3_Baldr191.jpg

Another attempt at our fool-proof plan...

bu3_Baldr192.jpg

...seems just as successful as the one before.

codex_m.jpg
Should I prepare something sharp already?

Probably.

bu3_Baldr193.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Strangle myself with a bowstring? Why, of course, I'd love to!

Death count: 1138

Loading.

codex_m.jpg
I'm starting to dislike these two particular females. A little.

bu3_Baldr194.jpg

Yet another attempt at our fool-proof plan...

bu3_Baldr195.jpg

...modified with some added fiery death.

bu3_Baldr196.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Well, she should be sleeping and on fire. Another partial success then?

Previous ones were not very successful in the long run...

bu3_Baldr197.jpg

Well, at least our hero did not suffer needlessly this time.

Death count: 1701.

Reloading.

codex_m.jpg
I think our fool-proof plan needs more fool-proofing.

You may be right, but let me try it one more time.

bu3_Baldr198.jpg

Stinking Cloud + Sleep as openers.

bu3_Baldr199.jpg

Approaching very carefully, we manage to enter the sight range of only one sirine.

codex_m.jpg
So... basically, you're abusing game mechanics, instead of thinking of some more creative way to win?

Shut up and shoot.

bu3_Baldr200.jpg

One down!

codex_m.jpg
Yay, I guess.

bu3_Baldr201.jpg

The Codex levels up.

codex_m.jpg
:yeah:

Unfortunately, the second sirine approaches before we are able to save the game.

codex_m.jpg
:rage:

We might still win, given some luck.

bu3_Baldr202.jpg

We try to put her to sleep, while she casts Invisibility.

bu3_Baldr203.jpg

I'll let everyone guess how it turned out.

Death count: too fucking high already!

Loading game.

codex_m.jpg
I have to admit, I prefer dying of being hit in the head by poisonous arrows than slowly bleeding to death when tell me to cut myself when I'm charmed.

Wow, being You really sucks.

codex_m.jpg
And I still wouldn't want to trade places with you. How does that feel?

Let's... let's just move on.

bu3_Baldr204.jpg

Finally, our fool-proof plan works as it should! Both sirines are down.

codex_m.jpg
One of them kind of looks like she's breakdancing, but whatever.

bu3_Baldr205.jpg

One down!

codex_m.jpg
Oh yeah!

bu3_Baldr206.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Lady? What should I do now? Stab myself in the groin? Alright.

Death count: no comments.

Loading.

codex_m.jpg
She got up, charmed me and fell asleep again?

Yes.

codex_m.jpg
Just wanted to make sure.

bu3_Baldr207.jpg

I refuse to believe that such a fool-proof plan as this wouldn't work, so we try it again.

codex_m.jpg
Do I have a say in this?

No!

codex_m.jpg
Thought so.

Anyway, one of them is asleep. Kill her!

bu3_Baldr208.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Done, and done.

bu3_Baldr209.jpg

Wow, the second one sleeps too. Let's not fuck this up this time.

codex_m.jpg
I'm on it!

bu3_Baldr210.jpg

:rage:

codex_m.jpg
Yes, mistress, I understood. Plunge this sword through my ear. It's good for me.

Death count: 24

Loading!

codex_m.jpg
What is this, I don't even...

Yeah, me too.

bu3_Baldr211.jpg

One more time. I might have forgotten to cast Stinking Cloud and Sleep here.

codex_m.jpg
That's a good start...

bu3_Baldr212.jpg

It seems we were still able to step back and cast at least the first one. One of the sirines is already down!

codex_m.jpg
What? How? When did that happen?

bu3_Baldr213.jpg

And the second one croaks too.

codex_m.jpg
Whoa. Have we entered some kind of alternate reality all of a sudden?

Are You complaining?

codex_m.jpg
No, but...

Then shut up.

bu3_Baldr214.jpg

The Codex levels up as a fighter!

codex_m.jpg
:yeah:

bu3_Baldr215.jpg

An increase in THAC0 and HP is all we get. Every little bit helps.

bu3_Baldr216.jpg

Sirine (the first one, I guess) has topped Droth as the fattest kill. Stinking Cloud is already The Codex' favourite spell.

bu3_Baldr217.jpg

Area completed!

Yeah, the sirines were last enemies here. I did not plan this.

And that would be all for today - and the last moment of BG1, but... I have one last thing to do.

bu3a_Baldr000.jpg

Single Player.

I was playing in Multi-Player mode because of situations like Shoal the Nereid here. I wasn't sure there aren't more moments like this in the game - it's been a while since I played Baldur's Gate last time.

bu3a_Baldr001.jpg

New Game.

bu3a_Baldr002.jpg

Import character.

bu3a_Baldr003.jpg

Shit, I just realised everybody will be able to see my save game filenames. It's almost as embarassing as revealing childhood photos.

bu3a_Baldr004.jpg

Anyway, I import The Codex from 'Final Save', created in the moment of Sarevok's death.

bu3a_Baldr005.jpg

codex_m.jpg
What's going on? Why am I here again?

We're going to play the game one more time now.

codex_m.jpg
Noooooooooo!

bu3a_Baldr006.jpg

Yeah, not really, I just wanted to check one thing.

codex_m.jpg
Since we're already here, can I kill Firebeard Elvenhair?

No. Although, it would have been a good idea if I remembered it while actually playing this.

bu3a_Baldr007.jpg

Locked! Just as before.

codex_m.jpg
I think I know what you're thinking.

bu3a_Baldr008.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Who's the bitch now, chest!?

bu3a_Baldr009.jpg

codex_m.jpg
Aha!

bu3a_Baldr010.jpg

Investing just a little bit more into lockpicking at the beginning, would've netted us this beautiful thing. It's worth quite a hefty sum of gold.

codex_m.jpg
Now, that we know it - what of it?

Nothing, really. Was just curious.

codex_m.jpg
Right.

bu3a_Baldr011.jpg

Farewell, everyone - see You in BG2. Soon. I hope.

Ah, yes, my LP... I kinda was unable to fire up my gaming rig for the last two weeks due to lack of time. I'll get to BG2 when I find a day with a few spare hours - to install the mods and stuff. Probably over the weekend.

For BG2, I'd say the Codex has earned the right to have some company, with everything He's been through in this LP.

Thanks to everyone for voting. I declare solo/core option to be the winner of the poll with 31 out of 54 votes (57%).

BG2 has been installed and modded (with Ascension, Unfinished Business, fix pack & tweak pack). I have already started playing, so expect the first update to show up sometime this week - hopefully earlier than later - in a totally new (and improved!) thread

Hmmm...I wonder if you'll finish LPing BG2 before I even finish BG1 and begin to Shepardize Amn? Probably.

Anyway, great LP here, looking forward to your take on a BG2 LP.

Hey, bros.

I finally got around to fixing the image links in this LP after the recent backstab from Photobucket. Sorry it took so long, but... I forgot.

I used the opportunity to fix some minor errors and embed the updates in spoiler tags, so the thread should be more readable for the 1d6 people who stumble upon in in the next five years.
