As close as it gets.

Update #61: Sin City, part III - Ust Natha Shenanigans

bg2_up61_000.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I be bout ta rap why: cuz I be AWESOME.

bg2_up61_001.jpg

codex_10.jpg
'You are ordered to have fun, so you will have fun!'

But before we can even leave the platform, we are approached by this little fellow:

bg2_up61_002.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Tank?

bg2_up61_003.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I really wouldn't mind never talking to any fish again in my life.

bg2_up61_004.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I could always just kill everyone, but I guess there is still fun to be had here, stuff to loot and XP to earn.

bg2_up61_005.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I'm not sure why I am asking about kidnapping, if he clearly said he wanted her dead, but whatever.

bg2_up61_006.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fine, fine.

bg2_up61_007.jpg

As you may remember, we were denied entrance to Qilue's home before.

codex_10.jpg
Such rudeness demands a reprimand. A harsh one too.

bg2_up61_008.jpg

We are not given any chance for an explanation or switching sides in this quest, since Qilue and her servants become hostile on sight.

codex_10.jpg
It could be worse. They could become hostile only after wasting my time with some pointless talking.

bg2_up61_009.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Okay, who's first?

bg2_up61_010.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ooh, I bet she got these bodyguards from some discount sale.

I actually missed that Qilue died from friendly fire, but it does not really matter, since AFAIK she is only worth 4000 XP, much less than any of her servants (around 10K each).

bg2_up61_011.jpg

codex_10.jpg
These guys are FUCKING ANNOYING.

bg2_up61_012.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Alright, one down.

bg2_up61_013.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Tryin ta finger me, biatch? Eat steel!

bg2_up61_014.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Sweet!

bg2_up61_015.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yes muthafucka! Show me what tha fuck you gots, son! Brin it on!

bg2_up61_016.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Haha! Yeah! Thatz what tha fuck I be rappin' about!

bg2_up61_017.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I be goin ta devour you all, lil chickens!

bg2_up61_018.jpg

Oh shit.

I guess the saving throws trade-off must have hit us sooner or later.

bg2_up61_019.jpg

codex_10.jpg
You've just wasted yo' only chizzle biaaatch! Now you die!

The drow indeed used almost all the stun duration to cast various buffs and protection spells.

bg2_up61_020.jpg

None of which survive the on-hit dispel effect of the Carsomyr.

bg2_up61_021.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Shit, he managed to cast the spell before croaking.

bg2_up61_022.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Not a big deal, though.

bg2_up61_023.jpg

codex_10.jpg
This puts a whole new meaning to brain-draining.

bg2_up61_024.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Decent, I guess?

I still like Fire Tooth more.

bg2_up61_026.jpg

codex_10.jpg
So, women DO have brains after all. I was never quite sure.

bg2_up61_027.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Cheapskate.

bg2_up61_028.jpg

Let us not forget to execute the Level Up.

bg2_up61_029.jpg

codex_10.jpg
One HP gained... And that's all?

bg2_up61_030.jpg

You're forgetting the epic abilities.

codex_15.jpg
That's more like it!

bg2_up61_031.jpg

We shall use this spell slot for Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting, my favourite AoE spell.

bg2_up61_032.jpg

bg2_up61_036.jpg

There are more not-yet-available locations in the city. We will return to these later.

bg2_up61_033.jpg

I thought you hated spiders?

bg2_up61_034.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I did, but they are kind of growing on me.

bg2_up61_035.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Also, I enjoy watching people dying.

bg2_up61_037.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I should probably try to check if I can get to the eggs.

I am surprised you even remember that part.

bg2_up61_039.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I actually try to remember stuff that makes dragons pissed off.

bg2_up61_040.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Not very surprising. I guess I will join Sol and his bitch at the inn.

bg2_up61_041.jpg

codex_10.jpg
To be honest, Sol, you barely did anything back there.

bg2_up61_042.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I aint big-ass on sacrifice yo, but blood I can do, especially if it aint mine.

bg2_up61_043.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I can hardly wait.

bg2_up61_044.jpg

codex_10.jpg
A few days, biatch? What tha fuck is I supposed ta do up in tha meantime?

bg2_up61_045.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Any def tourist spots around?

bg2_up61_046.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yo ass aint much of a help, you know.

bg2_up61_047.jpg

codex_10.jpg
'Stories', biatch? Fo' realz, biatch? Da cave is right outside tha hood.

bg2_up61_050.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I can peep you would wanna git yo' lil claws on his muthafuckin ass.

They would sacrifice Solaufein out of spite, even though he is
A. extremely loyal
B. capable fighter
I don't think drow will conquer the world any time soon. More likely, they will exterminate themselves at some point.

bg2_up61_052.jpg

I stand corrected, apparently drow breed like rabbits and the lethality of their society is actually the only thing protecting them from overpopulation.

bg2_up61_053.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Sure I am, just check mah stat sheet.

bg2_up61_054.jpg

TOTALLY INCONSPICUOUS INFORMATION GATHERING.

bg2_up61_055.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yes, I can see this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

bg2_up61_056.jpg

After regaining some neural pathways I remembered that you actually need the cleric Heal spell to get the most of one of the encounters from this magical prison, and not just any healing ability at all. And since we cannot get this spell anyway, we can finish this little quest right now while trying to pass the time.

bg2_up61_058.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I wonder what's coming.

bg2_up61_060.jpg

This is the guy you can Heal for PROFIT.

bg2_up61_061.jpg

Unable to do that, we are just going to kill him, of course.

codex_10.jpg
This is the better solution anyway.

bg2_up61_062.jpg

The fastest way to destroy a Mislead-illusion is to just hit it Carsomyr, so we do just that... Only to get 20K XP. WTF? Was that the real guy? If so, why does the illusion have active protection on it?

bg2_up61_063.jpg

And why is it trying to cast spells, and also dies instead of just getting dispelled?

This is not in the screenshots, but we got additional XP for this second kill, although it was less than the original 20K.

bg2_up61_064.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Double XP and some loot. You won't see me complaining about that.

bg2_up61_065.jpg

Do we have this already?

bg2_up61_066.jpg

We did not.

bg2_up61_075.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Who will it be this time?

bg2_up61_076.jpg

codex_10.jpg
'Madman'. That bodes well. Not.

bg2_up61_077.jpg

And in Divinity: Original Sin ALL characters talk like this.

bg2_up61_078.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Show me what you can do with that sword of yours.

bg2_up61_079.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh yes! Bloody glorious!

bg2_up61_080.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Looking good.

bg2_up61_081.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Looks isn't everything, it turns out.

bg2_up61_082.jpg

Time to release the final prisoner.

bg2_up61_083.jpg

codex_10.jpg
What is it with gith and slavery?

They have a few issues with the concept, mildly speaking.

bg2_up61_084.jpg

To be honest I do not blame the later-released souls for going immediately hostile, since they appear among a pile of dead bodies, in front of a grinning maniac wielding a bloodied two-handed sword. Everybody would freak out.

bg2_up61_085.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Overall, all this was mildly disappointing. I should have released them all at once for some challenge.

They could have started fighting among each other.

codex_10.jpg
Even better!

bg2_up61_086.jpg

This spear will test your resolve.

bg2_up61_087.jpg

And believe it or not, we did not have this spell before.

bg2_up61_088.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Well, I could already cast it from my super-ring, but more spells never hurts.

bg2_up61_089.jpg

We sell the trash items and buy some gear (like Fire Tooth) from the drow merchant.

Also, let us not forget the level up.

bg2_up61_090.jpg

The Codex's thieving skills are getting ridiculous.

codex_15.jpg
Getting?

bg2_up61_092.jpg

codex_15.jpg
This ability sounds like fun.

Since we are still waiting for the next step of the main quest chain here, The Codex goes shopping out of boredom.

bg2_up61_093.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yeah, I be bout ta take one.

bg2_up61_094.jpg

Why would you want an umber hulk?

codex_10.jpg
Why wouldn't I want an umber hulk?

bg2_up61_095.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I will call him Bruce.

bg2_up61_096.jpg

codex_10.jpg
This djinni torture looks like fun. I wanna try.

bg2_up61_097.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Uh, oops?

bg2_up61_099.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Straight-Up a accident yo. Honest.

bg2_up61_100.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Have I gots tha coin, biatch? I could probably loot yo' whole doggy den if I wanted.

bg2_up61_101.jpg

codex_10.jpg
4000 gold fo' a thugged-out damn djinni is pretty steep, though, cause I gots dem finger-lickin' chickens wit tha siz-auce. We shall rap bout dis again.

bg2_up61_102.jpg

Trading 4000 gold for 5000 experience is not the best deal ever, but at this point, gold is almost completely useless, so why not?

bg2_up61_103.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Have we passed enough time already?

Nope.

codex_10.jpg
Shit... So, Bruce. You wanna grab a beer or something?

bg2_up61_104.jpg

codex_10.jpg
'Pets not allowed in'? What kind of a shitty policy is this?

bg2_up61_105.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Whatever n' shit. I just need ta it ta be tomorrow already.

bg2_up61_106.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Give me booze. Lotz of dat shit.

bg2_up61_107.jpg

Drow are pretty picky with their accommodations. Only royal class rooms are available in the inn.

codex_10.jpg
Booze!

bg2_up61_108.jpg

codex_10.jpg
A shect of Gau- Ghaud- Ghan-- A shect of the shlime god? Very bad.

bg2_up61_109.jpg

I always wondered what does this status effect actually do.

codex_10.jpg
Ish it tomorrow already?

Nope.

codex_10.jpg
Lusht chambersh it ish, then.

bg2_up61_110.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I shpy with my little eye... A shexy drow chick.

bg2_up61_111.jpg

codex_10.jpg
That'sh harsh.

bg2_up61_112.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Shoundsh good... But waidaminnit, ain't you a dude...?

codex_10.jpg
No man ish touching me.

codex_10.jpg
Like, ever.

codex_10.jpg
Ah, you know what, fuck that. Bring it on.

---

Next time: Well, who knows what is going to happen now...

What is the new, not-as-painful method?
Looks like Picasa (Google Plus) images are getting through the corporate firewall, which could allow me to ditch my workaround solution and make the updates a bit easier to write and post.

But the images get their names changed to something like

Code:
MPZfmY1x7ihSakHDDhTlxTHR53KL4xQASLMjB-hejQ=s186-p-no

and I am not sure if I can mass-generate links for them. But still, more options is always nice.

When The Codex wakes up, he'll be wondering where he found this from ...

... and this!

Just wanted to note that there probably will not be an update this week, but I will try to post at least three updates (more if possible) in the next two weeks.

Update #62: Sin City, part IV - Your Typical Drow Day

bg2_up62_000.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Damn, damn, damn. How long have I been in the inn? I can't even remember how I got here.

Probably for the best.

bg2_up62_001.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh, ffs, Bruce! Yeah I forgot about you, but don't get so butthurt about it!

bg2_up62_002.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fine, be that way. You can be easily replaced.

bg2_up62_003.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I hereby name you: Ron. Do not fail me, like Bruce did.

bg2_up62_004.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yo muthafuckas, I hope I aint late or anything?

bg2_up62_005.jpg

codex_10.jpg
No need ta be jealous, Sol. :smug:

bg2_up62_006.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh yeah, dat soundz like fun.

bg2_up62_007.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Wait, wait, wait fo' realz. A beholda smuggler, biatch? Is dis some kind of a April foolz joke?

bg2_up62_008.jpg

codex_10.jpg
What do you mean, mah own way?

bg2_up62_009.jpg

codex_10.jpg
YOU BITCH!

Less cursing, more legwork.

bg2_up62_010.jpg

codex_10.jpg
FFS, you straight-up could have teleported mah crazy ass wit you, you know.

bg2_up62_011.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh, you can trust me, if I wanted ta bust a cap up in you, you would be dead already fo' realz. Along wit dis whole fuckin hood!

bg2_up62_012.jpg

Behold... the beholder.

codex_10.jpg
Get it, Ron!

bg2_up62_013.jpg

That was quick.

Death Count: 233

Load game.

codex_10.jpg
Ron has disappointed me.

Let's try that again.

bg2_up62_014.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Alright... CHARGE!

bg2_up62_015.jpg

codex_10.jpg
DAMNIT SOL!

Loading the game, because of drow kill-stealer.

bg2_up62_016.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yes!

bg2_up62_017.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I be thinkin Solz spittin was metaphorical.

bg2_up62_018.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Three days, biatch? Again, biatch? Come on!

bg2_up62_019.jpg

codex_10.jpg
You have to stay here, Ron.

bg2_up62_020.jpg

codex_10.jpg
So, what tha fuck is goin on?

bg2_up62_021.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Don't let me interrupt yo' brooding.

bg2_up62_022.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Well, actually...

bg2_up62_023.jpg

codex_10.jpg
100% legit there.

bg2_up62_024.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yo ass is goin ta teleport there n' make me go on foot, you fucker, aren't yo slick ass?

bg2_up62_025.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Who the hell is that?

Is that not the goblin from that adventuring party from before? We must have missed him.

codex_10.jpg
He won't be missed any more.

bg2_up62_026.jpg

codex_10.jpg
There, another archery duel won.

bg2_up62_027.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I should not have expected any good loot from a goblin.

bg2_up62_028.jpg

codex_10.jpg
How tha fuck bout you teach me dat damn teleportation spell, so I don't gotta strutt all up in these fuckin caverns any more?

bg2_up62_029.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I can handle all dem stinkin gnomes, no problem.

bg2_up62_030.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Prepare to die, svirfneblin scum!!

bg2_up62_031.jpg

codex_10.jpg
It looks like they're re-enacting a Benny Hill credits sketch.

This calls for:

bg2_up62_032.jpg

codex_10.jpg
EAT LIGHTINING!

Divinity: Original Sin has spoiled me. Non-stunning lightning seems neutered somehow.

bg2_up62_033.jpg

The damage is not bad, but I think this spell is still going off the roster. It just feels too mediocre for its level.

bg2_up62_034.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Not that I expected much of a challenge, but they didn't even scratch me, which is kind of disappointing.

bg2_up62_035.jpg

codex_10.jpg
All done.

Instances of senseless drow violence: 4 - Even Solaufein recognizes that.

bg2_up62_036.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And the only notable loot is the quest item. What a stinker of a task.

bg2_up62_037.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yay.

bg2_up62_038.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Hopefully!

bg2_up62_039.jpg

28K XP for killing a few gnomes is, well, typical for this game.

bg2_up62_040.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Whoa, you two. Git a room!

bg2_up62_041.jpg

codex_10.jpg
What, is I goin ta be yo' replacement fuck now, biatch? Because I can do dis shit.

bg2_up62_042.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Let's not keep, the, uh, 'lady', waiting. Stay here, Ron.

bg2_up62_043.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I be feelin relieved n' pissed tha fuck off all up in tha same time.

bg2_up62_044.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Keep it realz wit dat attitude. Well shiiiit, it just can't end badly fo' yo thugged-out ass...

bg2_up62_045.jpg

codex_10.jpg
WHOA!

bg2_up62_046.jpg

codex_10.jpg
No worries, I be pretty much used ta bein railroaded.

By the way, great logic there. 'Nobody can link us to Solaufein's death, except I will keep his highly-recognizable cloak as a trophy.' Right.

bg2_up62_047.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Three days, biatch? Haha! I only need, like, three minutes.

bg2_up62_048.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Wait here, Ron. This is something I need to do myself.

bg2_up62_049.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I won't?

bg2_up62_050.jpg

codex_10.jpg
WRONG!

Instances of senseless drow violence: 5 - Although this might be more a case of Phaere being a woman scorn.

bg2_up62_051.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Let's check out this famed cloak of his.

bg2_up62_052.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Pretty cool indeed.

bg2_up62_053.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Hey, you also had an actual scimitar? Cool.

Are you satisified? Can I reload now?

codex_10.jpg
I guess...

Instances of senseless drow violence: 5 - I guess it should not count after all.

bg2_up62_054.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yeah, I pretty much figured that out already.

bg2_up62_055.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Tentacle rods? Kinky.

:mhd:

bg2_up62_056.jpg

We don't really want to kill Solaufein, because he is a good guy and can help us out later.

bg2_up62_057.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Correction: you don't want us to kill Solaufein. I would kill him just to prevent the foundation of Forgotten Realms Emo Movement which he will undoubtedly cause.

bg2_up62_058.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Um... why?

bg2_up62_059.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Score!

bg2_up62_060.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Good thing that Adalon's illusion is fornication-proof.

bg2_up62_061.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh, come on!

bg2_up62_062.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And they say money can buy loyalty.

bg2_up62_063.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I'm not sure I like that Phaere wants me to meet her mother already. This relationship might be moving a bit too fast.

bg2_up62_064.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yo, momma. Can I call you momma, biatch? Sick place you've gots here.

bg2_up62_065.jpg

codex_10.jpg
'Scrawny'?

bg2_up62_066.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Seems like Phaere has a drider ex-boyfriend. :smug:

Wow, she's a real politician. Saying so much, telling so little.

bg2_up62_068.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Elder orb? Didn't I kill like five of these already?

Maybe not five, but you did fight them, I believe.

bg2_up62_069.jpg

MMA is right, because Elder Orb is the first creature you meet at these tunnels - which is handy if someone does not want to spend a lot of time on this quest.

bg2_up62_070.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I think this is the first time I will be literally out for blood.

tl;dr: The Codex is tasked with obtaining a noble blood of one of the neighbouring races - Illithids, Beholders or Kuo-Toa.

bg2_up62_071.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Am I going to get some backup, maybe? Didn't think so.

Walking through the streets of Ust Natha, our hero is approached by another drow.

bg2_up62_072.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Let me guess, itz a magical bridge.

bg2_up62_073.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Unless this is the rope on which Judas Iscariot hanged himself, I'm only mildly interested.

We do not mean our JudasIscariot, obviously.

bg2_up62_074.jpg

'Never heard of Jarlaxle.' Nice drow impersonation there.

codex_10.jpg
Oh, bite me.

bg2_up62_075.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I git dat all tha time.

bg2_up62_076.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ha ha, what an idiot!

Seriously, you are not buying it, I hope?

codex_10.jpg
Of course not.

bg2_up62_077.jpg

codex_10.jpg
It's real, because it glows! Uh-huh.

bg2_up62_078.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I'm not 'buying' it. Get it?

bg2_up62_079.jpg

codex_10.jpg
:smug:

t;dr: The Codex got a rope that should allow him to enter Deirex's tower and steal everything that is not nailed down, including the ward stone allowing to enter House Jae'llat, where more stuff can be stolen.

codex_10.jpg
Let's try this baby out!

bg2_up62_080.jpg

codex_10.jpg
It seems to be working.

bg2_up62_081.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I was hoping for something more eloquent than 'get off my lawn'.

bg2_up62_082.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Wait, why can't I move?

bg2_up62_083.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh, that's just not fair!

bg2_up62_084.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fucking drow.

bg2_up62_085.jpg

codex_10.jpg
FFS.

bg2_up62_086.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Like I care if he lied directly or just mislead mah crazy ass wit half-truths n' implications. Fuck you, nahmean biiiatch?

bg2_up62_087.jpg

codex_10.jpg
All dis feels unnecessarily elaborate.

bg2_up62_088.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Well, dis aint exactly a stealth game fo' realz. Also, da thug worth XP.

bg2_up62_089.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Hilarious.

bg2_up62_090.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yo ass would not have dat smug smile on yo' grill if you was not protected by tha dialogue screen.

bg2_up62_091.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck you!

tl;dr: The Codex needs to retrieve Jarlaxle's gems from Deirex's tower and has one day to do it.

bg2_up62_092.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Hey! I'm teleporting!

bg2_up62_093.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Well, let's do this hit.

bg2_up62_094.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I'm back, pops.

bg2_up62_095.jpg

codex_10.jpg
You're only postponing the inevitable.

bg2_up62_096.jpg

I do not think we need to be very scared of this set of spells.

bg2_up62_097.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Was that a time stop?

bg2_up62_098.jpg

codex_10.jpg
So, about that protection from magical weapons...

bg2_up62_099.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Thought so.

bg2_up62_100.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Loot, loot, loot!

bg2_up62_101.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Nice.

bg2_up62_102.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ooh! The promise of untold riches!

bg2_up62_103.jpg

codex_10.jpg
These spell symbols look unfamiliar.

bg2_up62_104.jpg

codex_10.jpg
It's hard to blame someone living in the middle of a drow city for having trust issues.

bg2_up62_105.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I actually expected black leather, but whatever.

bg2_up62_106.jpg

codex_10.jpg
+5 should be impressive, but it is still pretty meh.

bg2_up62_107.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I don't know this one.

bg2_up62_109.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Neither do I know this one.

bg2_up62_110.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Come to me, sweet XP!

bg2_up62_111.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Nice try, old man.

bg2_up62_112.jpg

codex_10.jpg
These must be the gems.

Upon picking them up, The Codex is immediately teleported back to Jarlaxle's pocket plane.

bg2_up62_113.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh no, I've been had! Totally did not see that coming, etc.

bg2_up62_114.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yeah, and I did all of that for you! Not.

bg2_up62_115.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Whatever.

bg2_up62_116.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Bitter? Me? Never.

tl;dr: Uhm... nothing interesting? Oh, we gave the gems to Jarlaxle.

bg2_up62_117.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I forgive you because you let me teleport a few times. But you will still die if I can actually attack you some day.

bg2_up62_118.jpg

codex_10.jpg
So, let me enter this tower FOR THE THIRD TIME.

bg2_up62_119.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Where was I...? Oh, yes.

bg2_up62_120.jpg

codex_10.jpg
MMMs!

bg2_up62_121.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I never even heard of this one.

bg2_up62_122.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I love the smell of XP in the morning.

bg2_up62_123.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Looks like Deirex was a collector of rare spells.

bg2_up62_124.jpg

I am kind of surprised we did not get this one earlier. This is one of the most essential spells in party-based play-throughs.

bg2_up62_125.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Looks like ass.

bg2_up62_126.jpg

codex_10.jpg
All magic shall be mine!

bg2_up62_127.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Now for the good part, let's check the treasury!

bg2_up62_128.jpg

codex_10.jpg
This place is much bigger on the inside.

bg2_up62_129.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Is this the pool of radiance?

More like pool of loot, I think?

codex_10.jpg
Even better!

bg2_up62_130.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Pretty cool.

bg2_up62_131.jpg

codex_10.jpg
You can take this one. You'll have a matching set.

bg2_up62_132.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Nice find... for a level one character.

bg2_up62_133.jpg

codex_10.jpg
This one's a little better.

bg2_up62_134.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Haha.

bg2_up62_135.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Haha, no.

bg2_up62_136.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Still no.

Next time: Jae'llat ward stone, you say...?

I love how just about everyone sees through the illusion for bullshit reasons (psy-shark, fan service merc brigade) except for the paranoid as fuck drow society full of high level spellcasters.

Yeah, that is annoying.

But even more annoying is that you cannot tell them 'I don't care, tell everyone if you want' and then proceed to slaughter whole city. Gotta stay on that rail.

You can tell Aboleth to fuck off and he/she/it will leave you alone, but I would not describe ignoring the quest as a viable choice.

Jarlaxle will screw you and you cannot do anything about that, other than ignoring Visaj completely - as above.

Nope. You can refuse the aboleth, but not threaten to expose it in turn, and the city will turn hostile. Same with Jarlaxle. There is a dialogue option that you threaten him and he tells you that he will expose you. If you ignore him and continue saying you will kill him, he attakss you and you kill him. He doesn't even alert the drow.

I think it's more about arrogance. Drow are so convinced they are superior that it's easy to fool them. If you go down the peaceful route with the svirfneblin patrol then the patrol leader says something about telling the leader who will order "Much bowing and scraping we will make to the drow" in order to stop the gnomes from being attacked.

I thought we were powerless facing the scripted might of Jarlaxle, but Rake made me realize, this is not the case, and you can actually kill the insufferable drow mercenary (thanks, Rake). Since I always wanted to do that, I have decided to replay this section of the game and try to perform the deed.

codex_10.jpg
The Codex approves.

------

Update #63: Sin City, part V - You Can Actually Kill Jarlaxle

bg2_up63_000.jpg

One other thing that will be altered in this timeline is hiring another troll after Ron's untimely demise.

bg2_up63_001.jpg

codex_10.jpg
You shall be called... Josh.

bg2_up63_002.jpg

The outcome of first conversation with Jarlaxle cannot be changed, but in the second one...

bg2_up63_003.jpg

...After clicking a couple of responses where you literally have no other choice...

bg2_up63_004.jpg

...At one point you can threaten Jarlaxle with death.

bg2_up63_005.jpg

After confirming your intent, combat is triggered.

codex_10.jpg
Bring it on, bitch!

bg2_up63_006.jpg

Of course, Jarlaxle has no qualms about fighting you, even though you have just killed Deirex, which he did not want to face, and even though he clearly has the ability to teleport you in and out of his pocket plane at will.

bg2_up63_007.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I hate drow.

bg2_up63_008.jpg

Well, we did come unprepared and chose less than optimal tactics, so this is not entirely unexpected.

Death Count: 234

Load game.

codex_10.jpg
Now I REALLY want to kill this guy.

bg2_up63_009.jpg

Allow me use this moment to address Pillars of Eternity lead designer's hatred towards pre-buffing. To be honest, I kind of like this mechanic, as it gives a certain tangible meaning to the phrase 'prepare for battle'. I know disallowing it in PoE is supposed to reduce save-scumming through combat encounters, but I think short spell/ability durations and limited camping supplies already take care of that problem. Also, people will still save-scum through encounters if they want, only they will do it in a different way (notice a particularly effective spell vs. enemy X, reload, us that spell on that enemy at the beginning of the encounter).

bg2_up63_010.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Shall we dance, gentlemen?

bg2_up63_011.jpg

Probably using both stoneskin and protection from magical weapons was an overkill.

bg2_up63_012.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Nice HP, for a mage.

He is probably multi-classed.

codex_10.jpg
Damn munchkins.

bg2_up63_013.jpg

Upon killing Visaj, The Codex is immediately teleported out of the pocket plane.

codex_10.jpg
Hey! What about loot?

Indeed, what about loot?

bg2_up63_014.jpg

Does Jarlaxle drop anything good?

bg2_up63_015.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Doesn't look like it.

bg2_up63_016.jpg

Apart from standard drow loot, there is only this disappointing generic +2 dagger.

codex_10.jpg
Lame.

bg2_up63_017.jpg

Visaj is even worse in this regard.

bg2_up63_018.jpg

I guess the advantage is that you are not missing out on anything special, if you are unable to pick their items before getting teleported out.

Going the 'kill Jarlaxle' route is actually more rewarding XP-wise (at least for solo play), by the way, because The Codex would only get 10K XP for completing the mercenary's quest obediently.

bg2_up63_019.jpg

As we do not want to make the update too short, The Codex visits the endless source of entertainment that is the Ust Natha tavern (or was it an inn?).

Here we can see drow indulging in an activity known as 'making fun of other drow, whose house has fallen out of favour and who have therefore fallen lower than the worst of the slaves on the social ladder'.

codex_10.jpg
You've phrased that in a way that makes it sound no fun at all.

bg2_up63_020.jpg

House DeVir is/was Viconia's house, by the way. I believe she comments on this, if she is in the party (I might be wrong here, it was a long time ago).

bg2_up63_021.jpg

codex_10.jpg
no u lol

bg2_up63_022.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ok, and what is this?

bg2_up63_023.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Say what?

bg2_up63_024.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Whoa.

codex_10.jpg
I... I think this is it.

What do you mean?

bg2_up63_025.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I have found it.

Found what?

bg2_up63_026.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Let me see that again!

bg2_up63_027.jpg

codex_10.jpg
They have been searching for it for years, and it was right here, all along!

What are you-

codex_10.jpg
Just look!

bg2_up63_028.jpg

codex_10.jpg
The awesome button! This is the awesome button!

Uh... ok. I think it is time to wrap up for today.

codex_10.jpg
It was always here! Don't you see it!?

End of line.

Next time: We should be back on track, I hope.

It's a psy-eelish thing actually, aboleths are among the most powerful creatures in FR. I looked them up because there was no explanation of who or what they are in the game and found them to be quite interesting. Barring violent death these things will live on forever and they have genetic memory.

The whole reputation system is retarded really as it only works one way. At least KOTOR had the intimidation mechanism to get the same discount from vendors that good aligned parties had.

I say The Codex should sacrifice enough slaves to lower his reputation to rock bottom!

Who's with me? :troll:

Good side gets discounts, Evil side gets Korgan and Edwin.

I say Evil is better.

True enough, although good parties get Keldorn with the Holy Rape sword if you don't have a PC pally or thief with UAI.
