Duude cut some out screenshots if updates take you so long. Just remember to screen all deaths!
I'm cutting as much as I believe is possible to still keep the style of the LP intact.
I had very little time last week due to a business trip, and my brand new plasma tv (have I mentioned my brand new plasma tv yet?) kept me absorbed for the last couple of days, but the future of this thread looks bright - unless everybody gets bored and leaves at some point.

Tell us more about that TV. How big is it? Which company made it? (or at least logo stamped it).

Update #1B: The Great Goblin Massacre, part II
bg2_up01_181.jpg

The corridor behind the next door contains some more goblins.

codex_19.jpg
*YAWN*

bg2_up01_182.jpg

codex_10.jpg
It's actually kind of cute when they try to fight back.

bg2_up01_183.jpg

One of the goblins dropped some magic arrows.

codex_10.jpg
Stop with the false ambiguity already. We all know these are arrows of biting.

We can never be sure.

bg2_up01_185.jpg

codex_10.jpg
'We can never be sure' MY ASS.

bg2_up01_184.jpg

Another one dropped something really cool. A scroll of one of the best spells in the game - True Sight.

codex_10.jpg
Awesome!

Sorry, no screenshot of the spell.

bg2_up01_187.jpg

codex_10.jpg
A have another of these 'save my game' feelings.

bg2_up01_188.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ok, seriously. These fucking traps are everywhere here. How exactly does the owner move around and not fall into them all the time? He must have one hell of a memory.

Or carry a lot of healing potions.

bg2_up01_189.jpg

Yet another trap.

bg2_up01_190.jpg

Looks promising.

bg2_up01_191.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Helm of Balduran! I've missed you so much!

bg2_up01_192.jpg

Indeed, it's the Helm of Balduran, the best helmet from the first game. I'm not sure if it can be found here, if You start a new game without importing a character from BG1.

bg2_up01_193.jpg

There's also another one of those wand keys here.

bg2_up01_194.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Whoa. What's that?

bg2_up01_195.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Right. I always wanted one of these...?

It actually has a use, so let's keep it.

bg2_up01_196.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Amulet of metaspell influence! Long time no see, good friend!

bg2_up01_197.jpg

It allows us to memorize... Oh hell, everybody can see what it does in the screenshot.

bg2_up01_198.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Well, hello there, ladies! It seems that my earlier button-pushing with Aataqah wasn't completely wasted after all.

You might be reading too much into this.

bg2_up01_199.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Wow, I'm talking to three girls at once. I haven't done anything like this since... Well, never.

bg2_up01_200.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I see that the evil wizard guy has good taste in certain areas.

bg2_up01_201.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fairy queen? Is it some kind of gay slang? Because if it is...

No, she's an actual fairy queen.

codex_10.jpg
Oh, ok.

bg2_up01_202.jpg

codex_10.jpg
You might even come with me. My solo play does not extend to all aspects of my life, you know...

bg2_up01_203.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Alright, alright, I'll help you. Geez. Women.

bg2_up01_204.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Right. Some hills I won't remember. I'm sure it will all be in the journal, whoever writes it.

bg2_up01_205.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Wait, Ilyich? Vladimir Ilyich?

My guess is, the name similarity is purely coincidental, considering they live in completely different universes.

codex_10.jpg
I guess that's true. Also, I now know that the bad guy's name is Irenicus. People should be telling me to come here and talk to these fair ladies in the first place, instead of leading me to the guy drowned in a jar.

bg2_up01_206.jpg

codex_10.jpg
This room looks like it's completely free of traps of any kind.

bg2_up01_207.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yeah...

The two golems we destroyed earlier would've come after The Codex' blood now, but everybody probably knows that already.

bg2_up01_208.jpg

codex_10.jpg
The funny thing is, disarming any of these traps gives me more experience than I'll get from killing every goblin in this place.

bg2_up01_209.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Shit, another one? That's exactly why paranoia is considered an illness, not a perk.

bg2_up01_210.jpg

codex_10.jpg
You've got to be fucking kidding me.

bg2_up01_211.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Are we done with the fucking traps? Good!

bg2_up01_212.jpg

A potion of thieving mastery.

codex_10.jpg
Not that I need it. I'm already a master thief.

bg2_up01_213.jpg

Another key.

bg2_up01_214.jpg

This one not for a wand, but for a portal.

codex_10.jpg
A literal key to a portal? What is this, a poor man's PST?

In a way, yeah.

bg2_up01_215.jpg

We also find magical bracelets and some kind of a jewel.

codex_10.jpg
That's a jewel? I wouldn't guess from the appearance alone.

bg2_up01_216.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ok, these I know, but they looked completely different the last time I saw them.

It's the new art style. Just roll with it.

bg2_up01_217.jpg

I think this is a good time to show The Codex' spell book.

codex_10.jpg
Why now? Am I going to be casting a lot of spells in a moment?

Not really, I just forgot about it earlier.

bg2_up01_218.jpg

Here's level 2.

bg2_up01_219.jpg

Level 3.

bg2_up01_220.jpg

Level 4.

bg2_up01_221.jpg

And finally, level 5. We also have one level 6 spell learned (True Sight), but are unable to cast it yet.

bg2_up01_222.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I bet this is the portal I found the key to.

What tipped You off?

codex_10.jpg
Fuck you too.

bg2_up01_223.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Wow, this Irenicus guy really has a knack for long, narrow corridors. At least there are no goblins in this one.

bg2_up01_224.jpg

We enter the library, encountering its guardian mephit.

codex_10.jpg
Fucking yay.

bg2_up01_225.jpg

Dust Mephits have 50% physical damage resistance, I think. Other than that, they suck.

codex_10.jpg
They suck? Wow. How completely different from all the other mephits!

bg2_up01_226.jpg

What will we find here, I wonder...

bg2_up01_227.jpg

I will only show the spots where we found something except books. Like this healing potion here.

bg2_up01_228.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Goblins! Give me a second.

bg2_up01_229.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ok, done.

bg2_up01_230.jpg

Another oil of speed.

bg2_up01_231.jpg

Yet another Dust Mephit...

bg2_up01_232.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Flying scum!

I'm not sure what the Glass Dust status effect does, but it can't be very dangerous.

bg2_up01_233.jpg

codex_10.jpg
More goblins. It will only take a minute.

bg2_up01_234.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ok, we can move on.

bg2_up01_235.jpg

We find some more healing potions. The sucky ones this time.

bg2_up01_236.jpg

A scroll of Identify. Always useful.

bg2_up01_237.jpg

I immediately use it to identify the jewel we found earlier.

codex_10.jpg
'Piece of the Equalizer'? Sounds gay. What is it?

There are crafted weapons in this game, we can make them out of various pieces.

codex_10.jpg
Are they any good?

Some of them, yes. Equalizer actually kind of sucks. Besides, it's a longsword, so we won't be using it anyway.

codex_10.jpg
Why am I even carrying this thing, then?

Because I tell You to.

bg2_up01_238.jpg

Moving on, we encoutner the dreaded Ilyich.

codex_10.jpg
He's a dwarf!

Duergar, actually.

codex_10.jpg
What's the difference?

Probably the same as between elves and drows. Duergars, well... live underground.

codex_10.jpg
Oh, yeah, that's a huge fucking difference.

bg2_up01_239.jpg

We try to cast FireBall on them, but the spell is interrupted.

codex_10.jpg
Fuck!

bg2_up01_240.jpg

The same thing happens to Web.

codex_10.jpg
FUCK!

bg2_up01_241.jpg

We finally mange to cast Slow on them.

codex_10.jpg
Better than nothing, I guess.

bg2_up01_242.jpg

We first eliminate the mage. It helps a lot that decides to come as close as possible before casting anything.

codex_10.jpg
He could've had poor eyesight. You know, being an underground dwarf and everything.

Shut up and kill the others, will You?

bg2_up01_243.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Let's try my new bhaalspawn power! Boo!

bg2_up01_244.jpg

codex_10.jpg
All right! I already like it more than that sucky slow poison.

bg2_up01_245.jpg

The Codex suffers some damage. Ilyich comes closer to inflict even more.

codex_10.jpg
Ha! I would like to see that.

bg2_up01_246.jpg

codex_10.jpg
OW! FUCK!

Tell me more about what You would like to see.

codex_10.jpg
Fuck you!

bg2_up01_247.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Mwahahahaha! Slaughter!

We have to use up one healing potion, but Ilyich soon croaks.

bg2_up01_248.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Boom! Headshot!

We kill the one duergar left in sight range. All the others ran away in random directions, cowering.

codex_10.jpg
They fear me, as it should be!

bg2_up01_249.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Die, pincushion dwarf!

bg2_up01_250.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yeeeehaw!

Duergars don't even defend themselves, still being affected by the Horror spell.

codex_10.jpg
I don't mind.

bg2_up01_251.jpg

Do You really get satisfaction from killing defenseless opponents?

codex_10.jpg
I-can-get-no sa-tis-fac-tion. 'cos I try. And I try. And I try... Hey, hey, hey...

I withdraw my question.

bg2_up01_252.jpg

Ilyich dropped a nice looking armor and the acorns dryads told us about.

codex_10.jpg
I feel strange reluctance to touch Ilyich's acorns...

I shall refrain from commenting on that.

bg2_up01_253.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Thank gods, it explicitly says they're dryads' acorns. Which is kind of weird in its own way.

Can You drop the acorns subject already?

bg2_up01_254.jpg

We heal a bit before moving on. The lesser healing potions are hardly worth carrying, so I don't hesitate to use them.

bg2_up01_255.jpg

We also find two more of the greater ones.

bg2_up01_256.jpg

And two more.

bg2_up01_257.jpg

The lesser potions from before had been wasted after all, as I decided to rest a few seconds later. The door visible in the screenshot leads to a small optional area. It can be opened using the statue of air elemental we found earlier.

bg2_up01_258.jpg

The armor we found turns out to be the Mail of the Dead, which was the best chainmail in BG1, if I remember correctly. It will replace our current armor.

bg2_up01_259.jpg

Current inventory.

codex_10.jpg
Shit, that's one horny helmet.

bg2_up01_260.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oookaaaay, this is something new.

bg2_up01_261.jpg

codex_10.jpg
No effect. Surprising.

bg2_up01_262.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Right. I have the feeling I should save my game before continuing.

bg2_up01_263.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Casting mirror image won't hurt either.

bg2_up01_264.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ok, so, this might have been a mistake, considering I don't have any good magical weapon.

bg2_up01_265.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Mwhahahaha! Slaughter!

Seems that a normal steel blade was sufficient after all.

codex_10.jpg
That was supposed to be a demon? What a joke!

bg2_up01_266.jpg

He drops a somewhat decent loot, but nothing special.

bg2_up01_267.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Meh. I won't be using this anyway.

bg2_up01_268.jpg

We enter the door mentioned a couple of screenshots back, entering an air plane of some sort.

codex_10.jpg
What? An airplane?

As in a plane of air element.

codex_10.jpg
Oh, that.

bg2_up01_269.jpg

The plane is inhabited by Air Mephits.

codex_10.jpg
I somehow did not expect it to be rock mephits or ballet dancers.

bg2_up01_270.jpg

Another mephit (mist one) joins in, as our hero gets blinded.

codex_10.jpg
Fucking winged shitheads.

bg2_up01_271.jpg

The blindness lowers (actually increases, but You know what I mean) The Codex' THAC0 by 20 points. A little too much. Some kind of a bug?

codex_10.jpg
Not necessarily. The game probably just hates me.

bg2_up01_272.jpg

Unable to hit the mephits in melee, our hero resorts to magic to deal with them.

bg2_up01_273.jpg

We are lucky to get both spells successful, but I make a mistake of hitting both mephits once, instead of one twice, which kills none.

codex_10.jpg
It's good I can always rely on You to get me killed when everything else fails.

bg2_up01_274.jpg

Not sure if the one Magic Missile barrage proved enough, or if we managed to pull off three consecutive successful ones.

bg2_up01_275.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck yes!

The Codex slashes down the Mist Mephit despite his blindness. I have no idea what is these guys' AC, but it can't be very good.

bg2_up01_276.jpg

Moving on, only to encounter... another mephit!

codex_10.jpg
Color me fucking surprised.

bg2_up01_277.jpg

Ok, make that two.

codex_10.jpg
Flying turds! :x

bg2_up01_278.jpg

One down. The other went invisible.

codex_10.jpg
Good thing I have the true sight spell... Oh, wait, I can't use it yet.

bg2_up01_279.jpg

The other one goes down too. It was a Smoke Mephit.

codex_10.jpg
Shut up! Nobody gives a fuck what exact kind these things are! They might as well be crap mephits, for all I care.

Oh, I You would not like to fight those. Think about it.

codex_02.jpg
...Ok. Let's move on.

bg2_up01_280.jpg

We get a rather high level spell as a reward.

codex_10.jpg
Hell yes!

bg2_up01_281.jpg

All the elemental summonning spells are best cast before combat, due to their 3-round concentration time. Our meta-gaming knowledge should prove crucial in using them effectively.

bg2_up01_282.jpg

Moving on, we enter an area with more mephits.

codex_10.jpg
:rage:

bg2_up01_283.jpg

The Codex is blinded by another Mist Mephit and stunned by his friend, Steam Mephit. The situation looks dire for a moment.

bg2_up01_284.jpg

Fortunately mephits are unable to kill our hero while he's helpless.

codex_10.jpg
Fuck, that was close.

bg2_up01_285.jpg

Running away Retreating while healing potions are digested.

codex_10.jpg
I fucking hate these fucking mephits.

bg2_up01_286.jpg

Our hero turns back to fight, only to be stunned again. For some reason, Mist Mephit is stunned too.

bg2_up01_287.jpg

We quickly dispatch of the little abomination right after regaining ability to move.

codex_10.jpg
And fucking stay down, shitwad.

bg2_up01_288.jpg

But I forgot that it was the Steam Mephit that had the stun ability, not mist one. The Codex suffers the status effect again, this time having very little HP left.

bg2_up01_289.jpg

Steam Mephit fails at life, and only deals 4 damage to our defenseless hero. After recovering, The Codex quickly quaffs another potion and dispatches the enemy.

codex_10.jpg
YES!

bg2_up01_290.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Let's move a little more carefully, shall we? I'll hide in shadows to first scout this platform here.

bg2_up01_291.jpg

We find some more mephits and decide to treat them to fiery death.

bg2_up01_292.jpg

One mephit is killed and another one wounded. The third one affected turns out to be a Fire Mephit, which is, well, immune to fire.

codex_10.jpg
:rage:

bg2_up01_293.jpg

Soon, the fliers come to show their affection. Air mephit wounded earlier is killed by arrows, but a fire one comes close and tries to make The Codex extra crispy.

codex_10.jpg
Ow! Fuck, it burns!

bg2_up01_294.jpg

codex_10.jpg
YES, DIE!

bg2_up01_295.jpg

A quick 40-hour rest before moving on.

bg2_up01_296.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck yes, a magical lamp! I definitely could use a wish, or three.

Don't get Your hopes up.

bg2_up01_297.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I just remembered that the last djinni was a major disppointment, with the ogre mage appearing to butt-rape me, and stuff.

bg2_up01_298.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Wow, it would be so cool, if I could recover all my stuff here. That would be an even better wish than the one I thought of earlier, even though it contains much fewer naked women.

bg2_up01_299.jpg

codex_10.jpg
It's only the first update and I am already tired of this railorading. Does it improve later?

Not really, no.

bg2_up01_300.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Sure. I'll help, if it's the only way of dealing with this quest.

bg2_up01_301.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Done and done. Any excuse to creepily stalk talk to the lovely dryads is good.

bg2_up01_302.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Have to admit, the way they seem to be speaking as a collective mind is a little disturbing, but hey, nobody's perfect.

bg2_up01_303.jpg

codex_10.jpg
What? 9500 XP for what exactly? I haven't helped them in any way yet!

For killing the Ilyich guy?

codex_10.jpg
I already got the XP for that. Like, right after he died.

Picking up the acorns then?

codex_10.jpg
This is fucking retarded.

bg2_up01_304.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yes, I have fucking returned, because I somehow wasn't to able to mention the djinni in our previous conversation. And that's why I came here for in the first place.

bg2_up01_305.jpg

The flask has been recovered.

bg2_up01_306.jpg

codex_10.jpg
15000 XP. Oh, yes. Carrying the flask all the way here, from there, sure was as difficult task as killing Sarevok. Totally.

bg2_up01_307.jpg

Speaking of Sarevok, this is supposedly his sword, although weakened after the original owner went to hell.

codex_10.jpg
Since the new owner, namely me, is stronger than the last one, shouldn't the sword be stronger as well?

Don't try to analyze it. Just... don't.

bg2_up01_308.jpg

With the sword equipped, we get two attacks at 5 THAC0. Not bad.

codex_10.jpg
I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

bg2_up01_309.jpg

Area completed!

bg2_up01_310.jpg

While we reach the portal to leave, we are ambushed by goblins!

codex_10.jpg
Oh, no! It's the dreaded goblin revenge! I am doomed!

bg2_up01_311.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ok, seriously, I hope we are done with the goblin nonsense. It was silly from the start and hasn't gotten any better since.

bg2_up01_312.jpg

And this is a good moment to finish the update.

----------
Next time: the second level.

codex_10.jpg
Wait, what second level? I thought we were leaving?

Uh, no. There's another floor. Haven't I mentioned it?

codex_10.jpg

So did you find out what happened to the golden pantaloons yet? That's what I've been most concerned about.

The pantaloons seem not to have imported correctly. I will have to cheat them into the game later.

Last time on Let's solo Baldur's Gate 2, we slaughtered three million goblins and mephits, gaining significant loot and finally reaching a way out.

bg2_up02_000.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Except it's not really a way out.

Well, no. It leads to the next level. But that's almost as good.

Update #2: There is no easy way out
bg2_up02_001.jpg

Immediately after exiting the portal we are greeted by a badger-man Yoshimo.

codex_10.jpg
I feel a sudden urge to trust him with my life. That can't be good.

bg2_up02_002.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Actually, I am quite sure how I came to be here. I've just come out of the fucking portal located behind my back.

bg2_up02_003.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Just don't follow me! I hate being followed!

bg2_up02_004.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck, another one of these people who don't know when to shut up. Does a fucking 'end dialogue' ring a bell to you?

bg2_up02_005.jpg

codex_10.jpg
GO AWAY!

bg2_up02_006.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck, mephits!

Well, Yoshimo just explained-

codex_10.jpg
Wasn't listening. And don't intend to start now.

bg2_up02_007.jpg

Mephit goes invisible.

codex_10.jpg
I hate when they do that!

I have to say, You hate a lot of things.

codex_10.jpg
I am The Codex.

bg2_up02_008.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck, that's a lot of mephits.

bg2_up02_009.jpg

Maybe we can... Uh, You already died. Nevermind then.

Death count: 3

Reloading.

codex_10.jpg
Let's do that the smart way, ok?

Which is?

codex_10.jpg
The fuck should I know? You're the player here.

I'll try to improvise something.

bg2_up02_010.jpg

We open the door while hidden, so we don't get immediately attacked.

bg2_up02_011.jpg

We cast FireBall inside the room, and start getting gangraped by mephits. The spell kills half of them (i.e. two). Let's hope that's enough of an advantage for us to destroy the portals before more appear.

codex_10.jpg
What portals?

bg2_up02_012.jpg

The first portal is destroyed with one critical hit of 52 damage. Nice!

codex_10.jpg
I am so awesome, I should be played by Will Smith in a cinematic adaptation.

bg2_up02_013.jpg

Another portal is down. Not sure if the one 26 damage hit was enough. Also, another mephit appears.

codex_10.jpg
I know! These portals lead to some kind of mephitland, and these abominations get here through them! We have to destroy them, asap!

Well.. yes.

bg2_up02_014.jpg

Third portal down. One of the mephits disappeared. I think they die when their designated portal is gone.

codex_10.jpg
Good!

bg2_up02_015.jpg

And the last one.

codex_10.jpg
Aha! The Codex 4, mephits 0.

They did kill You once, remember?

codex_10.jpg
No, I don't. And neither should you!

bg2_up02_016.jpg

There's some searching to be done here.

bg2_up02_017.jpg

Another one of those wand keys.

bg2_up02_018.jpg

This one is for a wand of summoning.

codex_10.jpg
Very interesting. Except I'm dying of boredom.

bg2_up02_019.jpg

A scroll of protection.

bg2_up02_020.jpg

I used a spell (or maybe a scroll) to identify it, which was pointless. The Codex has high enough lore to identify the non-cursed protection scrolls by himself, so all non auto-identifiable must be cursed.

bg2_up02_021.jpg

One more wand key and some potions.

bg2_up02_022.jpg

Yet another one.

bg2_up02_023.jpg

Don't ask why there are screenshots of some of these, but not of the others. Consistency isn't one of my traits.

codex_10.jpg
You must have traded it for dumbfuckery at some point.

bg2_up02_024.jpg

codex_10.jpg
He must have forgotten to put this body into a jar, or something.

It's supposed to be Khalid.

codex_10.jpg
It is? Now I wish I had Jaheira with me, so I could offer her some 'consolation'.

Yes, Jaheira romance plot starts exactly at this point, if I recall correctly.

codex_10.jpg
'Jaheira romance'. Are you fucking kidding me?

No. There are romanceable party members in this. Didn't You know that?

codex_10.jpg
And how the fuck was I supposed to know? I feel cheated! How about we get a party for me after all? Preferably, one consisting of hot chicks only.

Sorry, our readers decided that You're going solo.

codex_10.jpg
The fuckers! :x

bg2_up02_025.jpg

Moving on, through one of the doors, we encounter an escaped clone fighting her way out against an assassin.

codex_10.jpg
Now just wait a minute. This is a little too much. First power cells and life-sustaining tubes and now clones? Wasn't it supposed to be fantasy rather than sci-fi?

Evil wizards and mad scientists have much in common. Remember Saruman and his Uruk-hai?

codex_10.jpg
Never met him. Besides, Christopher Lee can do anything he wants, because he's awesome.

bg2_up02_026.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Finally, a woman who recognizes her place from the spot.

bg2_up02_028.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ok, I know most of my conversations with women end up very weird and strangely often lead to violence, but this must the new speed record for it.

bg2_up02_029.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Hey, how could she cast two spells just like that, before I even had a chance to react?

There are a few spells which allow that, but the only one of them we know right now is Load Game.

bg2_up02_030.jpg

We cast Magic Missile to kill off her mirror images.

codex_10.jpg
You've turned hostile on the wrong troll-elf fighter/mage/thief, lady!

You should work on improving that taunt.

bg2_up02_031.jpg

Shit. How did that happen?

Death count: 4

Invocation: Load Game!

codex_10.jpg
Did I see it correctly? My magic missiles bounced off her and came back to hit me?

That's how Spell Turning works.

codex_10.jpg
Couldn't you have warned me, then?

I'm not used to these English spell names yet. Besides, treat it as a valuable experience.

codex_10.jpg
You know what would make a valuable experience? For both of us, nonetheless? Shoving this sword up your ass!

bg2_up02_032.jpg

This time we Cast our own Mirror Image before entering the room.

bg2_up02_033.jpg

Just to be sure, we follow with Minor Globe of Invulnerability (MGoI).

bg2_up02_034.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Down, bitch!

We manage to disrupt one of her spells, but she still pulls off three Magic Missiles. Thanks to MGoI, we can ignore them.

codex_10.jpg
Yeah, I wish I had this protection when fighting Borda.

bg2_up02_035.jpg

She drops another one of those Keys of Cluttering.

bg2_up02_036.jpg

These jars are each filled with clones of the same woman, or parts of her at least. Some seem to be living but most are lifeless within the fluid. One jar is broken.

codex_10.jpg
These jars are each filled with clones of the same woman, or parts of her at least? Some seem to be living but most are lifeless within the fluid? One jar is broken?

Yes, these jars are each filled with clones of the same woman, or parts of her at least. Some seem to be living but most are lifeless within the fluid. One jar is broken.

codex_10.jpg
Seems to me someone was watching too much Alien: Resurrection while making this part.

bg2_up02_037.jpg

Moving on, we find mephits fighting asassins.

codex_10.jpg
Mephits! Berserker rage!

bg2_up02_038.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Die! Die! Die!

bg2_up02_039.jpg

After the mephit is killed, the assassin immediately turns hostile.

codex_10.jpg
Ungrateful shithead!

bg2_up02_040.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck you!

bg2_up02_041.jpg

Following the corridor, we meet another mephit.

codex_10.jpg
Chaaaaarge!

bg2_up02_042.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh, yes! Die!

bg2_up02_043.jpg

Our next ecounter is a bunch of goblins.

codex_10.jpg
Ha, ha, ha! Oh, wow!

bg2_up02_044.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Here, I'll pretend you are a threat, little ones. Have some horror.

bg2_up02_045.jpg

One of the goblins resisted the spell.

codex_10.jpg
So cute.

bg2_up02_046.jpg

codex_10.jpg
There, finished.

bg2_up02_047.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I wonder what kind of trap can be mounted on a bridge like that. Uh, whatever.

bg2_up02_048.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I highly doubt that, d0rf.

After leaving the corridor, we encounter some hostile duergars.

codex_10.jpg
Like there are non-hostile duergars.

bg2_up02_049.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Taste horror, dwarven bitches!

bg2_up02_050.jpg

The spell works rather well. They panic, start running around and are killed by traps.

codex_10.jpg
Fuck, I'm losing precious XP here! Since when do traps works on enemies, by the way?

Yeah, don't get used to that.

bg2_up02_051.jpg

These are the pedestal-mounted wands we've found all the keys for.

bg2_up02_057.jpg

Basically, what happens is this, times six.

bg2_up02_058.jpg

Our reward is a magic ring.

codex_10.jpg
A ring of protection +1, fuck your fake secrets.

bg2_up02_059.jpg

It turns out to be a Ring of Protection +1.

codex_10.jpg
I hate you so much!

bg2_up02_060.jpg

We also got six magic wands with one charge each. I guess they're here to teach newcomers to the game what various spells can do. Otherwise, I see no point.

codex_10.jpg
Oh, I see a point in having wand of cloudkill. A scroll could also come in handy. Yes, that is a hint.

We'll buy one as soon as we have an opportunity to do that.

bg2_up02_061.jpg

Wand of Fire has two uses - a 6D6 Fireball (grenade) or a 6D6+6 Agannazar's scorcher (flame thrower).

bg2_up02_062.jpg

BG2 Wand of Lightning was buffed from BG1 version and is one of my favourites - it shoots six bolts of lightning, each dealing 3D6 damage, for a total of 18D6 damage (63 damage on average).

codex_10.jpg
I remember we had one of these in the previous game. It was awesome!

bg2_up02_063.jpg

Wand of Frost was also buffed and is now actually useful as it deals 8D6 area damage with a minimum damage of 16 (1s are treated as 2s).

The other two are Wand of Summon Monster (nerfed from BG1 version, since there's a strict limit on how many summons we can now have active) and Wand of Magic Missile, which doesn't require comment.

bg2_up02_064.jpg

We go through the NW door, finding some emo goth sex roleplayers inside.

codex_10.jpg
Is that what I think? A vampire?

I'm afraid so, yes.

codex_10.jpg
Twilight joke in 3... 2... 1...

Oh, no. Not yet. There'll be plenty of time for that.

codex_10.jpg
You speak as if there were many vampires in this game.

And if there were?

codex_10.jpg
We wouldn't be playing it, of course! Don't we hate vampires with a hatred burning like thousand suns?

Why, yes, we do! Except when playing Bloodlines, of course.

codex_10.jpg
Yes, except then.

bg2_up02_065.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Shadow Thieves? That name rings a bell.

bg2_up02_066.jpg

We manage to wound Ulvaryl a bit, but she soon turns into a fog or a bat, or some other shit like that, and disappears.

codex_10.jpg
I hate when they do that!

bg2_up02_067.jpg

Moving to some other corridor, we meet a talkative shadow thieves' assassin.

codex_10.jpg
By now I already know there's no point in trying to reason with anyone here, so let's just kill him and move on.

bg2_up02_068.jpg

codex_10.jpg
THE CODEX HAS NO MASTER, FOOL!

bg2_up02_069.jpg

codex_10.jpg
The fuck? Where did these guy come from?

They're thieves. Must have been hidden in shadows, or something.

codex_10.jpg
Like hell. We both know they spawned only after the dialogue.

bg2_up02_070.jpg

We cast Mirror Image as a safety precaution.

bg2_up02_071.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Eat cloudkill, shitfaces!

The spell insta-kills all three of them, ending the combat.

codex_10.jpg
I always say. When in doubt: cast cloudkill.

We're definitely buying a scroll as soon as we leave this place.

bg2_up02_072.jpg

While waiting for the spell to wear off, we explore the rest of this level. In one of the rooms, we meet a fat guy imprisoned behind bullet-proof glass.

codex_10.jpg
Totally unsuspicious.

bg2_up02_073.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Tell me your life story first. I very much would like to hear it.

bg2_up02_074.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yeah, maybe you better stay where you are.

bg2_up02_075.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ok, that completely changes everything. I will help you.

Why?

codex_10.jpg
It's a little boy.

So?

codex_10.jpg
'So?' Remember Albert, and what happened when I tried to attack him?

Oh yeah, that was hilarious.

codex_10.jpg
Fuck you. Anyway, I'm not ignoring any little boys' pleas for help, just in case. I will assist him and you will not stop me.

Perish the thought.

bg2_up02_076.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck!

bg2_up02_077.jpg

There are some containers here.

bg2_up02_078.jpg

One of the chests is trapped.

bg2_up02_079.jpg

A potion of fiery breath and a scroll of protection. All the protection from element scrolls are kind of pointless for a magic-user or a full party, but if someone wants to solo a non-magical class, they may be useful.

bg2_up02_080.jpg

Three guesses as to what this key opens.

codex_10.jpg
Well, it can't be Frennedan's prison, as it 'does not have a conventional lock'.

bg2_up02_081.jpg

Guess again.

codex_10.jpg
Fuck this railroading shit!

To be honest, I don't see the point. Why couldn't the lock be pickable from the start? Why force a player to open a chest in the same room to find a key? Ok, the chest was trapped, but so could be the door itself.

codex_10.jpg
Yeah, yeah, not listening. You think he's really going to be following me. I'd really hate that.

bg2_up02_082.jpg

Another trapped container.

bg2_up02_083.jpg

These potions restore HPs as well as cure poison, which is nice.

codex_10.jpg
Hey, boy, move away a little, willya?

bg2_up02_084.jpg

Entering the prison room, we find another trap.

codex_10.jpg
Stop following me!

bg2_up02_085.jpg

Searching ahead.

codex_10.jpg
You're free to go, boy. I'm not stopping you.

bg2_up02_086.jpg

Some more pointless identification.

bg2_up02_087.jpg

The other scroll is legit, although not very useful for The Codex.

bg2_up02_088.jpg

There's one more corridor to be explored here. We enter some kind of forge, guarded by goblins!

codex_10.jpg
I already told you, this place is infested by goblins, not 'guarded'.

bg2_up02_089.jpg

codex_10.jpg
There, clean.

bg2_up02_090.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Exile? I didn't know duergars were fans of Jeff Vogel's work.

bg2_up02_091.jpg

We use the Wand of Summon Monster to create some gnoll roadblocks that should drive away enemy attacks from our hero.

bg2_up02_092.jpg

Wand of Fire goes off next, killing most of our summoned help and turning the rest hostile.

codex_10.jpg
Fucking ungrateful dogheaded shitfucks.

One duargar also dies.

bg2_up02_093.jpg

Since carrying these wands is rather pointless, we use the frost one to cool things down a bit.

codex_10.jpg
I have a warning for you. If you are making puns, which you shouldn't be doing in the first place, let them not be Batman & Robin level ones, ok?

Right. Sorry.

bg2_up02_094.jpg

The Codex gets an Agannazar's Scorcher to the face, while himself firing away the Wand of Lightning. This effectively end the combat.

codex_10.jpg
Fuck, it burns!

bg2_up02_095.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck! Fuck, put it out!

bg2_up02_096.jpg

Some more looting to be done.

codex_10.jpg
Frennedan?! The fuck did you come from?!

bg2_up02_097.jpg

A nice girdle, perfectly suiting The Codex way of speaking.

codex_10.jpg
Har dee fucking har.

bg2_up02_098.jpg

Never say no to free healing potions.

bg2_up02_099.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck, I've had enough of this. I told you to stop following me!

Weren't You scared shitless of him just a while ago?

codex_10.jpg
The Codex doesn't afraid of anything!

bg2_up02_100.jpg

codex_10.jpg
He's a doped gangbanger! I knew it!

Really?

codex_10.jpg
Well, no, but whatever. He dies anyway!

bg2_up02_101.jpg

Since we were prepared for the combat (Mirror Image ftw), Frennedan stands no chance and soon croaks.

The Codex finds himself at the exit from this rather lengthy introductory dungeon. What will he find after leaving it?

codex_10.jpg
Yeah, what will I find? You already know, so why not tell me?

And that would be all for this weeks update.

codex_10.jpg
Fuck you.

----------
Next time: We're going to the circus!
Please vote on the next quest The Codex should undertake. The list of available ones can be found in the first post of the thread. If there's no decision, I'll pick one myself, or roll a dice, or something.

Chuckled at jar filling the room jars filling the room jars filling the room. And the cool pun. Nice touch with the kid following you around. Is there a non violent resolution like him just going away?

Since you are using two handed swords go for Lilarcor next. Those two were made for each other.

It's always funny to see The Codex die painfully, but he needs to have a fighting chance. I also suggest getting Lilarcor : I can't say I ever understood the story behind the quest, but the difficulty's low and the weapon's nice.

Go for Firkraag, you can kill him easily with a combination of Cloudkill and fake talk. Then grab the Holy Avenger and wait until you get the thief HLA that lets you use any item.

I'd like to see the golden pantaloons quest, since I've never imported a save from BG1. Do it whenever you want.

Fighter/Mage/Thief levels up very quickly just by scribing scrolls. There's no need for cheesing Firkraag.

Lower resistance, lower resistance, greater malison, Finger of Death.
