Leave the spoiler tags in. It reduces the need to scroll the page and doesn't cause the page scroll automatically as the images get loaded.

Plus, we read your LP's for your entertaining commentary anyway ;)

Edit: looks like it's fixed now.

And those were the guys I was helping out.

Update #56: Hordes of the Underdark, part I - Nice Place You've Got Here

bg2_up56_000.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Not that I am going to miss this place, but I have a feeling I am only falling into deeper shit by descending down there.

Well, you can always stay here forever, fins a nice-fish girl. Make sweet, sweet fish-love to her and...

codex_10.jpg
Alright, alright!

bg2_up56_001.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Down the rabbit hole we go.

bg2_up56_002.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Not another one of these.

bg2_up56_003.jpg

codex_10.jpg
'I am cliched. I will keep spewing bullshit.'

bg2_up56_004.jpg

codex_10.jpg
'We did what you wanted, but we're not friends, mmkay?'

bg2_up56_005.jpg

codex_10.jpg
'Yeah, whatever.'

bg2_up56_006.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh, these guys are fucked.

bg2_up56_007.jpg

codex_10.jpg
'Can I kill them? Can I? Can I? Oh, pleasepleaseplease, let me kill them!'

bg2_up56_008.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Told you they are fucked.

bg2_up56_009.jpg

codex_10.jpg
'Also, I want to suck out their souls, slurp, slurp, slurp.'

bg2_up56_010.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And suddenly, Irenicus is, like, 'oh shit'.

bg2_up56_011.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Nice reflexes, though.

bg2_up56_012.jpg

codex_10.jpg
If this was an anime, Irenicus would be sporting a huge embarrassment tear on his head now.

tl;dr: OMG, Irenicus allied himself with the drow!

bg2_up56_013.jpg

My favourite chapter by far, bros.

Hostile environment with very few friendly characters + mysteries and unknown on every step + infiltration plot = I love it THIS MUCH

codex_10.jpg
I'm just glad that I'm done with fish people.

bg2_up56_014.jpg

codex_10.jpg
What. The. Fuck.

Oh yeah, Kuo-Toa. They are fish people of the Underdark. Didn't you know about them?

codex_10.jpg
:rage:

bg2_up56_015.jpg

codex_10.jpg
At least it didn't talk.

bg2_up56_016.jpg

We are close to two level-ups. One of them should happen in a moment, actually.

bg2_up56_017.jpg

I have never used Set Traps and Detect Illusion before. While they are used much less often than the rest of thief's skills, they do kick ass in the right situation (even if Detect Illusion is quite not as good as True Sight).

bg2_up56_018.jpg

I'm considering taking a point in spears, just to put Impaler to some use. Too many cool weapons!

bg2_up56_019.jpg

I am also looking forward to toying with machine of Lum the Mad, because I still regret not making The Codex a half-elf (which would mean his physical stats would be a considerably better 19/19/19 now).

bg2_up56_020.jpg

Carsomyr's +50% magic resistance is a real game-changer.

bg2_up56_021.jpg

The suicidal Kuo-Toa was our 1500th kill. Nice coincidence.

bg2_up56_022.jpg

bg2_up56_023.jpg

codex_10.jpg
You can't take two steps without running into something hostile here.

bg2_up56_024.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Seeing how nearby that kuotoa and mindflayer were, I'm afraid I might have interrupted a date, or something.

All the better that you killed them, then. Such a relationship could have spawned Chtulhu or something even worse.

bg2_up56_025.jpg

Funnily enough I was distracted afk when we got this level up, so I forgot all about it until later.

bg2_up56_026.jpg

codex_10.jpg
This must be these 'underground dwarves' from Underdark, which you've mentioned.

Actually, these are svirfnebli...

codex_10.jpg
Do I even want to know?

Underground gnomes.

codex_10.jpg
Uh-huh.

bg2_up56_027.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Did you just insult me in your undergnome speak?

bg2_up56_028.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I can see that underground gnomes are known for their uncanny sense of humour.

bg2_up56_029.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Well, at least I know where the plot train is railroading me next.

bg2_up56_030.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Are you telling me that one does not simply walk into... drow city?

bg2_up56_031.jpg

codex_10.jpg
This is guy true neutral like Switzerland.

How do you know about Switzerland?

codex_10.jpg
Uhm... Wikipedia?

Forget I asked.

bg2_up56_032.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I can kind of escape death, although it usually still hurts a lot.

bg2_up56_033.jpg

*quest hint* *quest hint*

tl;dr: OMG, Irenicus allied himself with the drow

Oh wait, we already knew that, in a meta sort of way.

codex_10.jpg
Don't we, and specifically you, already know everything, in a meta sort of way?

Yes, but this was a completely different meta.

codex_10.jpg
I don't think it means what you think it means.

bg2_up56_034.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Strangely enough, I have fought air elementals in weirder places.

bg2_up56_035.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I'm still not sure how they can be hurt with a sword, but whatever.

bg2_up56_036.jpg

This is when I remembered about the level up.

codex_15.jpg
Not a moment too soon.

bg2_up56_037.jpg

We will be taking all the bonus spells next.

bg2_up56_038.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Whoa, another one!

bg2_up56_039.jpg

codex_10.jpg
They must be coming out of the portal!

You think?

bg2_up56_040.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Hey, more XP for me.

bg2_up56_041.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Good thing they're coming out one at a time.

bg2_up56_042.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Damn, not my best performance.

bg2_up56_043.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh SHIT!

Critical hit averted my ass. Run away!

bg2_up56_044.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I did not run away. It was tactical repositioning.

Sure, sure.

bg2_up56_045.jpg

For some reason we do not have the screenshot showing that last elemental dying, but after we killed it, no more showed up.

codex_10.jpg
Did I just exterminate the whole plane of air?

You're going to have to make a little more effort to do that.

bg2_up56_046.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Don't you know it is dangerous for a lonely priestess to travel in these parts?

bg2_up56_047.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oops.

bg2_up56_048.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Although what I said still stands.

bg2_up56_049.jpg

codex_10.jpg
So, again, I did not run away. I just moved to a better tactical position.

bg2_up56_050.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Death to the undead. Or something.

bg2_up56_051.jpg

codex_10.jpg
This doesn't look very promising.

bg2_up56_052.jpg

Our hero suffers from a magic-hindering status effect.

bg2_up56_053.jpg

codex_10.jpg
If I pull them one at a time, I should still be okay.

bg2_up56_054.jpg

Maybe we should have waited for that regeneration after all.

Death count: 221

Loading.

codex_10.jpg
We need some kind of an alternative.

bg2_up56_055.jpg

How about you fight a living mountain?

codex_10.jpg
Somehow this idea doesn't strike as much better.

bg2_up56_056.jpg

Ha. That was fast. Turns out that earth elementals are quite a bit tougher melee combatants than air ones.

Death count: 222

Load.

codex_10.jpg
You're a real asshole, you know.

bg2_up56_057.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Thankfully I have my sacrificial summons to, well, sacrifice.

bg2_up56_058.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Go get him, Efy!

efreeti_small.gif
Yeah, right.

bg2_up56_059.jpg

Our efreeti does a surprisingly good meat-shield impersonation and even manages to cast some spells.

efreeti_small.gif
I am sooo fucked right now.

bg2_up56_060.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Booyah!

efreeti_small.gif
I live!

bg2_up56_061.jpg

efreeti_small.gif
Ugh...

codex_10.jpg
Ok, it is now coming towards me, with its rape face on.

Retreat.

bg2_up56_062.jpg

Thanks to boots of speed, The Codex can outrun any mountain.

bg2_up56_063.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Time for my next pokeball.

bg2_up56_064.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I choose you, Kitthix!

bg2_up56_065.jpg

How long did you expect the spider to last?

codex_10.jpg
It has already lasted longer than I expected.

bg2_up56_066.jpg

Another instance of hit and run (away) tactics nets us a victory!

bg2_up56_067.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Time for my good old friend, the berserk warrior of the iron horn.

berserker_small.jpg
BLOOD!

bg2_up56_068.jpg

berserker_small.jpg
WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT!?

bg2_up56_069.jpg

berserker_small.jpg
HAHAHA! DIE!

bg2_up56_070.jpg

Our berserk warrior died off-screen, for which I apologize to all his fans.

bg2_up56_071.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Time for another Kitthix.

Modders should really focus more on testing their stuff, before unleashing it onto the world.

bg2_up56_072.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Speaking of unleashing, get him, spidey!

bg2_up56_073.jpg

:salute: Your sacrifice will not be forgotten, Kitthix. :salute:

bg2_up56_074.jpg

codex_10.jpg
The bad news is I'm out of summon items.

bg2_up56_075.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And I think I can't fight these guys very long...

bg2_up56_076.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And they just keep coming...

bg2_up56_077.jpg

codex_10.jpg
FUUUUUOOUCH!

This is a hint to GTFO, if I ever saw one.

bg2_up56_078.jpg

codex_10.jpg
*pant* *pant* *wheeze*

I have an idea.

bg2_up56_079.jpg

If these guys are such badasses...

bg2_up56_080.jpg

...why don't we use that to our advantage.

bg2_up56_081.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Get them, Moulder!

Let me guess, you are going to call your skeleton warrior 'Skully'?

codex_10.jpg
Yep.

bg2_up56_082.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Kill them! Kill them all!

bg2_up56_083.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ah, fuck.

bg2_up56_084.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I still managed to finish off that damn priestess.

They have more of them, though.

bg2_up56_085.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And they've summoned a nishruu. That's just not playing fair.

bg2_up56_086.jpg

We manage to endure the nishruu without losing any spells.

bg2_up56_087.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I could use some horrid wilting right now.

Drow are very resistant to magic, though.

bg2_up56_088.jpg

codex_10.jpg
If you don't have what you like...

bg2_up56_089.jpg

The effect is less than spectacular.

bg2_up56_090.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Good thing I have magic resistance too.

bg2_up56_091.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Traitors die first.

And then we run away.

codex_10.jpg
Reposition!

bg2_up56_092.jpg

codex_10.jpg
What, another one?

bg2_up56_093.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck off my spells!

bg2_up56_094.jpg

For some reason, skeletons are always the most determined pursuers (not counting nishruu).

bg2_up56_095.jpg

codex_10.jpg
The worst part is I don't get any XP for killing summons.

bg2_up56_096.jpg

codex_10.jpg
More skellies, just what I wanted...

bg2_up56_097.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Some enemies should really be forbidden to appear at this level.

bg2_up56_098.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I have you now, my pretty!

bg2_up56_099.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh shit.

bg2_up56_100.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Out of sight, out of mind.

Well, you clearly are out of your mind, if that is what you mean.

bg2_up56_101.jpg

We do some looting while waiting for The Codex' Wolverine healing factor to work its magic.

bg2_up56_102.jpg

Not bad, but not exactly what we are looking for.

bg2_up56_103.jpg

codex_10.jpg
It is very bad to get separated from your friends. Don't you watch slasher films?

bg2_up56_104.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh shit it's a trap!

bg2_up56_105.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Too close!

bg2_up56_106.jpg

codex_10.jpg
WTF? A -4 AC? MINUS FOUR? Inconceivable!

bg2_up56_107.jpg

For some reason we execute a tactical manoeuvre known as 'assisted suicide'.

codex_10.jpg
I have no idea why I did that.

bg2_up56_108.jpg

codex_10.jpg
CUT!

bg2_up56_109.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Urk...

Run away!

bg2_up56_110.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Shit, WRONG TURN!

bg2_up56_111.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Damn, damn, damn, damn...

Luckily we manage to escape outside their sight range and hide in shadows.

bg2_up56_112.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Let me take a breather...

bg2_up56_113.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ok, good to go.

Are you sure?

bg2_up56_114.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Positive.

bg2_up56_115.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I'm curious... Can you backstab an elemental?

bg2_up56_116.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ha! I must have hit a clay kidney or something.

bg2_up56_117.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ok, that was the hard part.

Hahaha. No.

Next time: More random encounters! More DEATH! MORE PLOT!

I think those svirfneblin sell horrid wilting btw.

I think they're actually Duergar and, in a move typical of evil dwarves, are holding out on the player.

They only show their full inventory to drow...or people disguised as such. Abi-Dhalzim's Horrid Wilting is in the additional inventory, I believe.

Whoa, that is really neat. Ah, the BioWare that has once been...

Update #57: Hordes of the Underdark, part II - Everything Trying To Kill You

bg2_up57_000.jpg

Let's start with executing the level-up, which was available for a while now.

codex_15.jpg
Soon I will be able to sneak around in full plate armor!

It would not hurt.

bg2_up57_001.jpg

Easy pick.

bg2_up57_002.jpg

After that we move on, only to encounter a talking fish.

codex_10.jpg
Nooooooo!

bg2_up57_003.jpg

It goes hostile a moment later.

codex_10.jpg
Thank goodness!

bg2_up57_004.jpg

The encounters ends up as an archery duel. The Codex wins hands down.

bg2_up57_005.jpg

But of course fish come in shoals.

bg2_up57_006.jpg

codex_10.jpg
This monitor now gets no signal. Ha!

bg2_up57_007.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Melf's acid arrow? You son of a bitch!

bg2_up57_008.jpg

I accidentally clicked down the right panel (and have not even noticed), so you are not able to see how close to death our hero is at this point. Pretty close.

bg2_up57_009.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And I am considerably closer to death now.

bg2_up57_010.jpg

codex_10.jpg
But not dead yet!

bg2_up57_011.jpg

For some reason our spell failed. The Kuo-Toa were not slowed down at all.

codex_10.jpg
Shiiiit.

bg2_up57_012.jpg

Sahuagin vs. Kuo-Toa, which are worse and why? Discuss!

Death Count: 223

Loading.

codex_10.jpg
I wouldn't really mind if I could fight after healing myself first for once.

Stop whining.

bg2_up57_013.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck, fuck, fuck! Go away, I'm regenerating!

bg2_up57_014.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I said GO AWAY!

bg2_up57_015.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Nooooo! I don't want to go there yet!

bg2_up57_016.jpg

There, invisibility, happy now?

codex_10.jpg
I will be happy when I finally have the chance to shove this staff up your arse!

Shoot the fireball-lightning, will you?

bg2_up57_017.jpg

codex_10.jpg
This is always great to see.

bg2_up57_018.jpg

codex_10.jpg
No-no-no-no-nonono!

I don't think slow works on them at all, to be honest.

codex_10.jpg
Thanks for the fucking tip!

bg2_up57_019.jpg

Or invisibility, for that matter.

codex_10.jpg
Fuuuuuuuck!

bg2_up57_020.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I'm not dying to these fuckers. I will drown myself in healing potions first!

bg2_up57_021.jpg

We have, um, tactically retreated back to the (fake?) svirfnebli market.

bg2_up57_022.jpg

codex_10.jpg
CHOKE ON THIS!

bg2_up57_023.jpg

codex_10.jpg
DROWN IN BLOOD!

bg2_up57_024.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I AM BECOME DEATH!

bg2_up57_025.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Up for a one-on-one challenge?

bg2_up57_026.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Not so tough without your bodyguards, huh?

bg2_up57_027.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh, what the fuck now?

bg2_up57_028.jpg

We actually went the other way to give The Codex a little break and allow him to regenerate. Ironic.

bg2_up57_029.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I never liked fighting these shit-eaters.

bg2_up57_030.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck me, this is a whole mushroom samba.

bg2_up57_031.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Stay away!

bg2_up57_032.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Who turned over the yellow submarine?

Fight, damn it, fight!

bg2_up57_033.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Live long and prosper!

Yes!

bg2_up57_034.jpg

No!

And it was so close.

Death Count: 224

Load.

codex_10.jpg
I hate mushrooms.

You are not alone.

bg2_up57_035.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Seriously, we can't wait until I get healed? Or maybe use a couple of the FIFTY potions I am carrying with me?

Less complaining, more shooting.

bg2_up57_036.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Redcap is down!

bg2_up57_037.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Who's the king now?

bg2_up57_038.jpg

codex_10.jpg
At least the colonies don't move.

bg2_up57_039.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Bring it on, bitches!

bg2_up57_040.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuuuuuckyeah! :fuuyeah:

bg2_up57_041.jpg

codex_10.jpg
How many of these things are here?

bg2_up57_042.jpg

codex_10.jpg
This is getting tedious.

Luckily, I think we are quite done.

bg2_up57_043.jpg

Our hero, freshly regenerated, approaches the Bridge of Fishy Death.

bg2_up57_044.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh, did I break your concentration?

bg2_up57_045.jpg

Moving on, we encounter a DROW AMBUSH.

codex_10.jpg
omg

bg2_up57_046.jpg

codex_10.jpg
As ambushes go, this one is pretty effective. Or it would be, if I wasn't a badass superhero.

bg2_up57_047.jpg

codex_10.jpg
DROWSPLOSION!

Protection from magical weapons gives us enough edge to take out the most dangerous melee combatants before they can hurt The Codex.

bg2_up57_048.jpg

We need to use a mirror image to win, but it is still a pretty good performance.

bg2_up57_049.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And poets shall sing the songs of your beauty. I think I'm in love.

AC0 armour that does not hinder spellcasting? Yeah, we might find a use for it.

bg2_up57_050.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And of course the only source of light in the whole Underdark will be plot-related.

bg2_up57_051.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Hey, yet another portal!

bg2_up57_052.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fire in the hole!

bg2_up57_053.jpg

I wanted to make The Codex all but immune to the fire elementals' hits, bit it turned out they deal standard physical damage, so we went with -13 AC instead.

bg2_up57_054.jpg

It turned out to be quite enough.

bg2_up57_055.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And that was the last one. Or at least the last brave enough to leave the portal.

A few moments later, our hero encounters a bizarre contraption:

codex_10.jpg
I wonder what will happen if I do this...

bg2_up57_057.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Uh, okay? Is that good?

bg2_up57_058.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Some people...

bg2_up57_059.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yeah, whatever.

bg2_up57_060.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Meh, weak.

bg2_up57_061.jpg

codex_10.jpg
The idea of profiting from releasing these people seems a little bit far-fetched.

bg2_up57_062.jpg

codex_10.jpg
So far, this is worse than one time when Geralt the witcher hunted down a random monster and tried to get rid of its corpse for some money.

The difference between Geralt and you is that he managed to score with a rogue princess shortly afterwards.

And then he killed her.

bg2_up57_063.jpg

codex_10.jpg
This looks to me like a clean-up job.

bg2_up57_064.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck, I hate this spell!

bg2_up57_065.jpg

This is some heavy-duty magic, but only Symbol, Stun concerns us.

bg2_up57_066.jpg

codex_10.jpg
It all happened so fast!

bg2_up57_067.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I see you!

bg2_up57_068.jpg

The Codex is badass enough to not even notice that he's on fire. Hardcore.

bg2_up57_069.jpg

If I remember correctly, we need to have some kind of healing capability to optimally resolve one of the last two 'lost souls'.

codex_10.jpg
Well, I left my paladin's bracers in my other pants, or rather in Athkatla, and my divine cure light wounds ability was stolen.

Maybe we can buy something soon-ish. We shall wait for now.

bg2_up57_070.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Someone not trying to kill me on sight. That's new.

bg2_up57_071.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Make up your mind.

bg2_up57_072.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yeah, yeah, whatever.

bg2_up57_073.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Underground gnome villages are not heavily populated, it seems.

bg2_up57_074.jpg

codex_10.jpg
But they do keep high-level spell scrolls in random crates.

bg2_up57_075.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Seriously.

bg2_up57_076.jpg

codex_10.jpg
They have an awful lot of beds here for so few people.

bg2_up57_077.jpg

bg2_up57_078.jpg

bg2_up57_079.jpg

bg2_up57_080.jpg

bg2_up57_081.jpg

bg2_up57_082.jpg

bg2_up57_083.jpg

bg2_up57_084.jpg

tl;dr: We got hired to kill some 'beast' that came from down under because the dwarves svirfnebli dug too deep.

codex_10.jpg
A balrog? Oh, I hope it is!

As a reward we shall receive the jewel of plot light that allows to enter magically dark caves.

codex_10.jpg
Called it.

bg2_up57_085.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Is it heaven?

bg2_up57_086.jpg

codex_10.jpg
More like hell. So much searching and NOTHING of value.

bg2_up57_087.jpg

codex_10.jpg
At least I won't waste much time here, seeing as the total population of the village is three.

Maybe the rest is hiding in panic rooms? it would be reasonable, seeing who is visiting.

bg2_up57_088.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I'm guessing he's the only other guy I can talk to?

bg2_up57_089.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yeah, you do suck.

bg2_up57_090.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Well, I did not do it for the warm fuzzy feeling inside, if you know what I mean.

bg2_up57_091.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Nice!

bg2_up57_092.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Well, I have better ones, and I'm not even using them at the moment.

---

Next time: The Codex will face a huge, winged monster.

codex_10.jpg
A balrog! I knew it! Can't wait!

Amusingly, the guy tells you to fuck off if you save his son while your party looks like dark elves and try to claim your reward only after you got your real appearance back. Teaches you to think ahead !

The Underdark really is a pretty cool place, all in all.

Thanks, patched it in. :bro:

EDIT:

Knowing the Codex, I'd have though he'd jump at the chance to have the Rod of Lordly Might handy in a quick item slot.
And wield The Impaler, obviously. It could happen one day.
