    ITZ HEVAN.

Update: I'm facing stagnation in my game. It's 1485, I drove inflation up to 23%, and only have -.20 inflation/month.

I control a few baltic provinces, half the former tutons, and the main scandinavian peninsula. Have to wait 50 years to get a core on Stockholm. Then I can form Scandinavia.

I'm starting to believe I made a major mistake in claiming The Hassa early in the game...my trade was much higher before I annexed it.

Bohemia is scaring the fuck out of me, they have something like 3x my manpower, and have been HRE for the entire game. They guarantee pretty much every province, so I can't do anything for fear of reprisal.

OTOH, I have tons of prestige and some great marriages....I wonder if I can turtle until I inherit France and Hungary.

That's why i don't like Vanilla. I prefer to focus on various goals other than just conquest. In Vanilla it's very easy to just conquer huge swaths of land without problem.

In my game as Prussia, the Russians attacked me incessantly so I converted their asses to Protestantism. Third Rome my ass, bitches. I also finally got them to relinquish cores on Novgorod and Pskov so that helped immensely (No more Reconquest CB.)

    Fun read.

    Is piracy actually a problem?
It really crippled my economy in my papal crusade game, or is the baltic different from the mediteranian?

Also: Map of the liberated states please

Hmm, Codex crapped out on me and i couldn't access it since this morning, anyone have a similar problem? I'll be updating tonight, if Fortuna wills it. Expect glory, conquest, triumph, and the wrath of a humiliated King. Preussens Gloria! Dulce et decorum est, pro patria mori!

Piracy isn't much of a problem, but it is a drain. It can be crippling for trade based nations, but a sufficient focus on naval matters can combat it. As a general rule i try and have large provincial defenses in every coastal province.

Gotta do it bro, it's cheaper than living with constant piracy and pirate hunter squadrons. At least trade doesn't suffer. Also keep in mind that wealthier provinces attract more piracy, while shitty provinces get little piracy. Naval ideas and a powerful admiralty also decrease piracy. If you can afford it, I'd recommend a limited or even extensive national piracy plan. Hurts your taxes, but it's very useful for trade based and naval nations.

Britannia may rule the waves, but Kurland is King of the battlefield.

With the crushing defeat of Lithuania, it is clear to the conquered peoples of Kurland that independence is a foolish notion. Good, it leaves nothing but bitterness to defeat and crush your own subjects.

With their religious leadership shattered, many Catholics simply abandoned their beliefs. Successful intervention by a Catholic nation was unlikely. Perhaps they wanted to become part of the community, to become a part of this great rising star in the Baltic? There is no shame in wanting be part of something far greater than one's own self.

Beyond the missionary work, many Catholics converted because it gave them greater opportunity in society. All the higher members of society were protestant, the first King had removed the mostly Catholic dissenters. There were many Catholic minority groups, even some Orthodox heretics, but the majority of the land was unified under the Protestant Church and the Kurland Eagle. A nation unified is a nation invincible.

With the crushing victory against the Lithuanians, plans are redrawn to attack the Teutons. The plan is to use the extremely strong Neva fortifications to hold the Swedes off until Prussia can be annexed. Then the main army will be brought north to push them out while the southern army holds off the Germans. When the Swedes are beaten the whole army will march south and crush the Germans. The plan is aided along by a bloody triple way war between the Poles, the Bohemians and their German allies, and the far away Ottoman Sultan. The Sultan has found himself at war with both Poland and Bohemia, but he would have to march far to fight Bohemia.

Brandenburg decides to help our efforts. This war could potentially be disastrous for them, and it's unlikely they can do much for us, but the help is appreciated. If the Bohemians overrun them then the King will certainly try to save them.

Tragically, the new Russian state abandons their friendship and debt of honour to the King. They had guaranteed the Teutons out of a greedy desire for territory. The Swedish army is quickly moved southwards to fight them. The plan is to take their capital as quickly as possible and knock them out of the war with little effort. The Ingrian defenders at Neva can hold the Swedes out in the meantime. The Royal Engineer Corps has been busy updating the fortifications there to guard against the Swedes. Among the innovations is the Italian "star fort" which is designed in such a way so that there is a line of sight from at least one angle to every point around the castle.

The Teutons are beaten and later routed by Warmia. These battles showed another quality of the Kurlandic army; wretched fortune. The armies often faced terrain difficulties, poor weather, and other misfortunes, leading to undue casualties. That Kurland could easily brave through this misfortune spoke for the resolve and strength of its army and people.

Danzig is placed under siege. Wanting to quickly annex the Teutons so more troops can pass unmolested from Kurland, the King trusts the defenders to hold. They are brave Prussian protestants, the best men in Kurland, better men than most. They will fight, they will not surrender. The question is, will they survive? The answer is undoubtedly yes, the Bavarians simply do not compare to these hardy Baltic soldiers.

The King signs a white peace with the Poles to keep the western front stable. There is no desire or need to expand into Poland. The King immediately has some regrets, realizing he could have forced Poland into renouncing its claims on Prussia and Danzig. Being a gentleman of high birth, the King still abides by the treaty. Wealth and power are second to honour and dignity.

Smolensk falls, knocking the Russians out of the war in a single blow. The army is withdrawn and peace is given in exchange for a monetary concession.

Warmia surrenders without much effort by the troops. Kongsberg will prove a much tougher nut to crack.

The nut is cracked. The artillery pounds a breach into the walls. After a short but very bloody assault the city falls. Prussia is ours, cries the King! The homeland is ours, cry the soldiers! A great day for Prussia, and a greater day for Kurland.

Magnificent. The King can now lay claim to two thrones. The Kingdom of Kurland and the Kingdom of Prussia. This is what you have fought and bled for, sons of Kurland. The Fatherland and the Motherland have been united! Every dead son of Kurland will rest easy in his grave tonight, thanks to the efforts of the living. :salute:

Full to the brim with patriotic fervor and vigour, the soldiers completely demolish the Bavarian army. There is little fight in the Holy Roman Empire, as ravaged by war as it is.

So ravaged, that many citizens of the Empire flee for their lives. Many Protestants flock to Kurland, most go to Prussia. They clearly can see the strength, stability and majesty of this rising nation.

Somehow, the Moslems managed to march through Poland and then capture the Bohemian capital. Bohemia and Poland have destroyed each other, so there is little point in continuing this war. Disappointing, but a good peace is not something to complain about.

One soldier pointed out that on the political map, the alliance of Bohemia and Austria resembled the male member. He was immediately flogged for this, but it served as a great source of amusement for him and his comrades. The jokes spread back home. The Alliance of Austria and Bohemia was given the smug Protestant nickname of "The Grand Catholic Phallus Alliance"
Even the King could not help but find this somewhat amusing, despite the crude nature of the amusement. It did have the effect of increasing both military and civic morale.

More seriously, peace talks. In exchange for peace, the Bohemians offered a huge sum of money. Seeing no further goals in this war, the King happily took this and withdrew his army, no doubt planning to spend it on further expansion of the military.

The conquest of Prussia had many immediate benefits. Beyond the obvious strategic benefit of connected territory, there was also a financial benefit. The Catholic Church owned land was seized, while a healthy chunk of the population declared itself openly Protestant. The administration of the new territories followed a similar line to the administration of Danzig, so integration should be no great difficulty.

Soon, even far off powers had to recognize Kurland. From its humble routes in Livonia, the Kurlandic people had forged inexhaustibly on to glory and might. Despite the greatest efforts of its many enemies, Kurland simply marched on, uncaring of injury and pain. The people are strong, the state is strong, and the army is strong. A strong nation, to be sure, but strong enemies as well. Nevertheless, the nation shows no signs of slowing its sprint to glory.

Is Russia a bear, or a sheep in a wolf's skin? They must have been fearsome to acquire a wolf's skin, but still merely a sheep. Russia was never known as a land of stability or comfort. Perhaps this provides the opportunity for an invasion. Perhaps the Czar's fat bulk will be toppled from his enormous yet ill-fitting throne. Only time will tell.

The Czar, perhaps in a fit of madness or intoxication, allows for the creation of a Finnish state and a semi-autonomous government of Novgorod. The Finnish state is of no consequence, perhaps even a future friend. It is unknown what this semi-independent state of Novgorod means. In the short term it has slowed down the rebels, in the long term it weakens Russia immensely. Russia is weaker, but seizing Novgorod will be a much more complex matter.

Power at his fingertips, the downfall of nations his hobby, the King feels he needs greater recognition from his neighbors. Humiliatingly, foreign courts insisting on referring to the King with a lesser title. The last ambassador to call him a Duke was executed, by this is still infuriating. The King decides to launch a diplomatic campaign of recognition by the regional powers.

Surely none could deny the King's great ambition? The whole nation backs him. His reign has been one of triumph. He must be recognized as a rightful ruler! Anything else is unthinkable, he clearly carries the heavenly Divine Right of absolutism!

    :rage:

Oh God. By God. This will be avenged! Their heads will roll! They will perish for Kurland's ambition! :x

It is a piece of music called Crowning-march taken from an Opera called "Der Prophet" or "Le Prophet" in an inferior non-Kurlandic language.

    Its main protagonist is Dutch.

So this march is as German as Swiss cheese.
