Can't promise there will be casualties before the Drassen counter-attack, but so far they didn't really face any seriously tough opposition. Mercs might or not die before that. Chitzena won't be as much of an "easy ride" as it has been so far.

Militiamen don't understand any strategy more complex than "Charge Enemy While Waving Guns Madly", so they are often more a liability than an asset in any fight, as they draw attention from the wrong places and then get themselves killed. Generally, when I'm preparing to defend a base and can't simply shunt the militia to another sector where they won't get in the way, I use the Orders panel to summon them all into a building, and then lock them inside using a landmine flag as a barricade. This forces them to stay put in the building, which sort of functions as an impromptu blockhouse. With your mercenaries defending from the rooftops, they OCCASIONALLY manage to make themselves useful that way, and get themselves shot to death at far more acceptable rates. Defending Drassen makes this sort of thing important, because you don't want the militia getting themselves unnecessarily and stupidly killed in the many defensive battles you will fight there, and I tend to have a preferred building I like to defend from. The Mine Sector, for instance, I like defending from the mine building, which functions as my HQ, whereas the airport is best defended from the building on the lower right. Loose explosives are ideal for preparing the battlefield by blowing up all sources of potential cover, forcing all enemies to charge across a now bare killing field. Destroy all the trees, rocks, and even the clumps of grass, so that they have nowhere to hide!

BTW I changed Ulminati's clothes colors for one reason that start with Duke and ends with Nukem. And he has kicked far more ass.

Tony is such a game-breaker if you have the setting on drop-all, who needs mines!

A bit disappointed you didn't steal from Kingpin though.

Like I said before, your custom mercs don't come with running costs and broke the game. Basically:

1. You don't need money till you gain the airport or the store inventory improves.
2. Meaning - you can afford financial losses.
3. From 2. Inflict as much physical damage as possible without being scratched and retreat when blood is about to flow. This is the only way to bring down the giant without suffering serious loss early on.

Tony doesn't have enough money to buy half the junk dropped, and there's NO way you're going to haul all that crap there.

Your powergaming probably has nothing on mine. Trust me: If you try this, the amount of crap you will rapidly accumulate to sell from having to kill all the patrols that try to stop you from delivering this loot will grow at rate faster than Tony will process it. I have done this. There was literally a mountain of guns piled up in San Mona, 15 pages worth. I stopped doing this when I discovered ALT-LMB. If you try to dispose of this through Tony, you will turn the game into a baggage-handling simulation, as hours and hours of your time will be spent purely on bagging and then unbagging loot, all this for money you don't really NEED, because, frankly, JA2's economic model is not that brutal, and any attempts to make it more so result in a kind of deadlock state where you are unable to advance for long periods of time as the manpower you need to advance is constantly pinned down in endless defensive battles.

Which, of course, results in these kinds of baggage runs, complaints that the economy is too easy again...

Liberation of Chitzena

Behind Enemy Lines

f6ton.jpg

Ira will arrive later. It won't be much longer before sunrise. They will take advantage of the darkness while they can.

RFKcr.jpg

Even at their dropoff point, they already get in range. The battle has begun, and they have 15 enemies to dispose of.

bMsl6.jpg

Ulminati silenced SMG does it job quietly.

zr5Ox.jpg

After that, it seems the other foes remain unaware of their presence, for now. There are snipers around: maximum caution is advised. Thus they advance slowly, sneaking and laying low, hoping they can take down as many as possible while not alerting the others.

627eR.jpg

Unfortunately the first surprise burst missed its target.

wKMZS.jpg

Fortunately the second burst didn't, and once again Ulminati cleared the way in silence. The battle is far from over, however: 13 enemies left.

eWVx2.jpg

Mistakes are made. Now they will now they are under attack!

ctQa4.jpg

And they are coming from several sides! By luck Ulminati survived the attack.

5kzYY.jpg

And retribution was given. However, they revealed themselves as there weren't flash supressors for everybody. More would most likely come. Or maybe they holed in well defended positions to ambush the team... but that is too hopeful for something controlled by scripts rather than a true intelligence in a ruleset immensely more complex than chess.

Yb57S.jpg

They prefer to carry on with blind human wave charges instead, and then silence again. Time to hunt for the last of them.

PP6sD.jpg

They shouldn't be too far.

2lxxH.jpg

Oh shit! Although it is most likely a sign of desperation, for them to fire blindly at the perceived location of the mercenaries without having a visual.

Yxuxs.jpg

Ulminati kill count continues to increase faster than that of anybody else. Too bad there is only one silencer and no AR suppressor and subsonic(AKA cold-loaded) 5.56mm ammo for the INSAS. But Ulminati combination of being a sniper and stealthy may also be the reason. His stealthiness allowing him to get closer before firing and his sharpshooting abilities greatly enhancing his skills. Black comes second due to his experience in Night Ops.

RsRmE.jpg

To the north, Black and Azira get on to take down another spotted enemy.

8vxk9.jpg

While Ulminati, under the cover of both darkness and of a bush, puts them down as quickly as if they were retarded copypasta spawned enemies from a popamole shit. The same kind he enjoys.

:M

JhbVo.jpg

And then the stragglers are too afraid to show themselves: it's hunting time.

lWMPN.jpg

They will die soon enough.

cSTNa.jpg

That is what I call some pro marksmanship. And luck too.

7PCE4.jpg

Thus the first sector of Chitzena is successfully liberated. Now Ulminati can receive medical care, and measures can be taken to prepare this small village against a potential counter-offensive.

Also I was seriously considering Photoshopping larpers in replacement of "losers" in that phrase.

First of everything that is still to be done here: the scavenging.

A3CQG.jpg

Black got a much better shotgun, and, did I miss the memo on how Chitzena and Meduna swapped places? Three sniper rifles, including a 12.7mm one! Had they tried to attack during daylight hours, the team would most likely have been raped if not totally wiped out.

S9ZF3.jpg

Something not so useful for a weapon of such effective range, but that will be very useful for one of the shotguns. Except for the 12.7mm ammo, the team decided to sell that rifle. They don't need that much firepower because aren't facing armored vehicles... yet.

At least there is some balance in how 12.7mm ammo is rare and those big fucking rifles are very slow to fire. But getting two smaller and good sniper rifles this early will make the rest of the mission a bit more on the dark side of popamole level of difficulty.

But if they are already packing this kind of firepower, regardless of how this way the team got two decent sniper rifles fitted with 10x scopes, taking and securing Drassen may prove itself near impossible.

you-gonna-get-raped.jpg

B50Hv.jpg

While waiting for Ulminati to get healed, others in the team start teaching guerilla warfare to the locals so that they can defend themselves against tyranny.

gmMIV.jpg

On the same time, Femshep goes in to speak with the mine foreman, who openly offers to support the liberation of Arulco with the mine's income, but they will have to prove they have what it takes to overthrown an entire government to get the miners working the hardest they can for such cause.

8a21P.jpg

Shortly after, a lone foe comes in to check why nobody answered to the radio in this part of the city. Big mistake for him.

QyQpI.jpg

Even at a far shorter than optimum range for a 10x scope, Ulminati's sniper proves to be very accurate.

xGayS.jpg

And after that, it didn't take long for this lone fool to perish.

Then a spam came about a certain M.E.R.C. offering cheaper guns for hire than A.I.M. , but there is no point in hiring right now. But now that the laptop is on, why not look for all the links?

vciUg.jpg

Flowers? How is that supposed to be of use for mercenaries?

OLOLOLOLOL I THINK I KNOW!

dPa8P.jpg

BROS DON'T SEND FLOWERS TO OTHER BROS IN COLD BLOOD BRO!

AWt0p.jpg

Kodex Kool Krew Delivers:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfithHWiIgU

In wake of the assured lulz, the KKK gets ready by afternoon to finish the liberation of Chitzena. And with those sniper rifles, they feel capable enough to try it during daylight.

FrdeB.jpg

Contact right away! The snipers make one hell of a difference as the battle begins.

AnJoE.jpg

Under the cover of several trees but dangerously close, an enemy is given a huge delivery of lead.

bmVTd.jpg

Shit! A sniper on the only location the team snipers weren't aiming for! Black lies between life and death, but Bee takes down this sniper before he could truly become a threat capable of provoking massive casualties.

8HIrX.jpg

Black injects some POPAMOLE to regenerate his health while Azira begins to apply first aid, most of the battle still being handled by the snipers.

TAgqB.jpg

Not that Femshep doesn't know how to be EXTREME and take some down too despite lacking a 4x scope that would be much useful for an assault rifle.

CexKO.jpg

Long range shooting at its finest. Irene "Bee" Honeychurch has proven herself more than once. First as a spotter using a detached 10x scope, and now as one of the two snipers within the team.

:salute:

2ew1b37.jpg

Then Ulminati delivers an even more impressive headshot. After that one, there weren't many more enemies left. Most of them were slaughtered by the two excellent snipers of the Kodex Kool Krew.

0nHEo.jpg

Leading to yet another great victory, with yet another near death experience. Black recovered, and Azira was tending to his wounds with his great doctor skills. Once again, while the wounded were treated, the rest of the team would be training more of the locals as militias to defend such conquests against tyranny.

Vl4fz.jpg

I hope Drassen will be a train full of rape. Because the firepower the enemies were packing did wonders to the default weapons progression. Now with two ARs, two shotguns and two sniper rifles, they had a quite effective combination of devastating short, medium and long-range firepower. And this not counting sidearms.

And a very handy AR suppressor too. Pity there is no way right now for the team to gain large stockpiles of subsonic 5.56mm ammo as without them the AR suppressor is anything but effectively silent.

5N1kF.jpg

The few not busy mercs take a look around. An old monk draws their attention. He tells on how a holy ancient artifact was stolen from its rightful place here and brought to Balime so all the rich people can contemplate it in its museum, and granted that if such artifact was brought back to these ruins, this would help uniting Arulco for a common cause, like overthrowing Deirdranna. However, Balime is way too far behind enemy lines right now, but it's something to keep in mind nevertheless. Bringing back the Chalice to Chitzena is now in their list of things to do.

And well, they wondered on how the enemy would react to the news of losing Chitzena too...

W6NF4.jpg

Obvious "Elliot, you Idiot!" and bitchslap are obvious.

And it didn't take much time for the "surprise" to arrive. Eight of the best of Deirdranna soldiers, Elite forces came in to attack the mine. When they came all mercenaries were in the adjacent sectors, and thus the already trained militias would face their baptism of fire.

oIWVk.jpg

Superior numbers, superior morale and having been trained into the standards of regular forces made a difference, and Chitzena has proven to have approached self-sufficiency in its defense capabilities. Not that far greater offensives won't happen, but at least it seems they are capable of holding off, freeing the mercenaries from the task of having to go there and retake the town again and again.

120qlja.jpg

Later, before heading out and making their way to Drassen, Ira went to the ruins again, because some unmistakably Kwanzanian oldfags were visiting that historical site, and both seemed somewhat frustrated.

L4r6A.jpg

What are they doing in this once nice touristic country now turned into a total shitholistan?

2wlr3vd.jpg

POOPERSCOOPER! Now that explains a lot!

nCzAv.jpg

Do you mean like typing iloveoblivion.com instead of elderscrolls.com?

And so they were going for Aruba, not Arulco but being Kwas they made a mistake, and met an unsavory guy in the Airport that tricked them. Hopefully there won't be problems with shipments going missing once Bobby Ray's becomes available.

:M

4hkxF.jpg

Man, you're the King of Retardoland! Why can't you pull some trick and ride bees flying vertically?

SCXfU.jpg

Considering they are already heading to Drassen, it sounds like a good source of extra income, provided they don't fuck it up, of course.

rN7Yn.jpg

Ira will be escorting them, and stay behind because the last thing any sane mercenary would do is to get the people they are supposed to escort in the middle of a firefight.

Black is grateful for his great luck: the only reason he is still alive, and he reminds of how a sniper almost finished him in Chitzena before getting on the road and departing with the others, all lauded by the inhabitants of the village.

Thus, now everything was ready for them to try their chances at Drassen.

Gepard M2 already? Holy shit, it sure does have some cons, like its weight and slowness, but I can take out enemies on the other side of the map and I've yet to see anyone surviving 1 shot from it.

I alt clicked it. A pity AI doesn't know how to take advantage of anti-materiel rifles at their optimal ranges with spotters with shorter ranged weapons on the outermost parts of a sector and snipers concentrated at the center.

They better run out of ammo quickly.

50 rounds... with luck there will be some left for the Drassen counter-attack.

In face of how ammo has been showering so far, I reduced ammo drop rate back to 50% in the xml editor.

I recommend to fuck drassen and go for the hospital instead. It's a real time saver to have these medical professionals healing you up. Although, yeah, you might want Dimitri for an extra free mule with the drassen quest.

I never managed to actually complete the game, as I went full aspie and tried to max all the IMP characteristics by mindlessly repeating the same actions over and over on the same map.

After setting and digging up the same mines 100+ times, and breaking doors down repeatedly etc, it snapped. "It" being my girlfriend at the time. The sound effects got to her, and I had to quit playing the game or mute it. T'wasn't the same.

Now, seeing as I'm not with that bitch anymore and my wife seems a lot more tolerant, coupled with getting a set of quality earphones, I should take up the game again. I just hope I don't get sucked into the "must improve wisdom to max before proceeding" loop again... M:
