Stratosphere, by Kodiak Interactive, is something like a fantasy naval sim with battles between techno-magically constructed flying Fortresses. In addition to cannon and the like, fortresses can be equipped with energy sources and special buildings like observatories, or with spikes and drills for close combat, all of which may be freely arranged. The combat plays in real time, the movement of the fortress assigned to the keyboard and its weapons to the mouse. The system is quite arcadey, but there is variety in units and in the way the different parts of a fortress can be attacked individually.
This will be blind; I fiddled around with a demo when I was very young, which is why I know of this quite obscure game, but never beyond the first couple of missions. I can't also can't promise regular updates -maybe I can muster it once a week- but let's see how it goes for now. I'll post the initial training missions later tonight. As the campaign goes on I'll try to maintain a library with the available units so you can make requests for the design of our fortress, if you'd like to.
The one flaw of the campaign has so far been that the missions are short and simplistic, and somewhat a waste of the terrific premise. Hopefully they will become more challenging towards the end. The fights are a barely controllable chaos that could also make for some glorious multi-player matches, say, two against two.
Please enjoy the LP.
