Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Insert Title Here
we can build the monster in the docks of our British allies. That would mean a 30.000 tons ship with 14 inch triple turrets.

That does sound nice, doesn't it? But.. Russia Stronk! Mother Russia is perfectly capable of squeezing out her own floating iron turds. A1

France was the birthplace of one of the most influential naval schools of thought of the age, the Jeune échole ("Young School")

More like the most overrated and bullshit school of thought.

It's still amazing how popular the Battle Cruiser idea was (and to an extent, still is!) when, logically thinking, it should have been an obvious dead-end from the start and Jutland did prove it

How did the poor handling practice's of the BCS?

Battlecruisers did well in the original purpose, to hunt smaller cruisers, as the Battle of the Falklands showed. In the end those battlecruisers which survived to see service in WWII did a good job in their original role and various others as Renown and the Kongos proved.

despite of all that, countries kept building BCs to the end of WW2, with the American Alaska-class being the last one to come to service in 1944/1945: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaska-class_cruiser

Which were built as an enlarged cruiser, not a cruiser with battleship armament.

Honestly, I have no idea. The majority of military thought in hindsight is hogwash, and Naval theory in particular as it's rarely tested. Well, maybe even 3/4 of today's military thinking could be completely wrong and no one will ever discover 'cause we will never have direct confrontations any more.

But I'm not an expert, as I said on the first post. What makes the Young School that bad, in your opinion?

Not my quote to defend, but in RTW BCs work great in their intended role as Cruiser hunters. They are terrible in direct confrontations with BBs, though.

Let's Play Rule The Waves: Don't Cry for My Dreadnaught Edition

The Destroyer, Subs and Refitting Plan won, and so we will prioritize the renewal of our navy in this way. Eight new subs are ordered. Coastal Submarines are kinda cheap, luckily for us.

lfE6NJn.jpg

We order eight of the new Zvonki class. They aren't the flashiest vessels, but they will work. Maybe I went a bit overboard with 4 4inches guns, but they are build as escorts. I will refit some of our older ship afterwards and then plan for building domestically our newxt generation of BB and CAs. Well, then...

"Поехали!"

xH2KfRd.jpg

Well, it's not ours. Everyone loves the Tsar.

31rJFyd.jpg

The French, despite being blockaded and pretty much bankrupt, refuse our peace offer.

RAx8KjT.jpg

Russian subs prove their superiority once again.

iDeUman.jpg

The Madagaskar is again sent to sink some French ships. I can't believe how the RNG is fixated with this CA. Cruiser action, so we should meet equivalent ships.

mvth207.jpg

Not worth the risk. Too many. Let's get back home.

63P0sEe.jpg

Another one. Just two in the docks now.

sJty1q4.jpg

The French can't muster enough ships to fight us properly. This happened up to 20-25 times this update.

The world would be much better under a single Emperor. Even better if this Emperor would be our wise and kind Tsar.

Wba7h55.jpg

Well, WE NOW KNOW HOW ESSENTIAL TORPEDO PROTECTION IS.

VqZYwXb.jpg

Two of our old Light Cruisers are sent to raid the French coast. This war has become a turkey shoot.

uDhqDRo.jpg

Turkey shoot my ass. While I mangle a big merchantman and its Destroyer escort, the Vesta, one of our Light Cruisers, manages to sink, god knows where as it's under AI control. Sometimes the AI fucks up us too. Well, whatever, the Vesta was a 1899 class, kinda obsolete.

NfFLBGj.jpg

Our generals are insane. Gutsy, but insane. Completely and utterly insane. I need to send some ships to cover the transports, now. The Diana will have the honour.

5Wl7gnR.jpg

Well, worth the price. The next generation of BBs will be a beauty.

jc9IR9a.jpg

Our subs keep hunting for glory. And obtaining it. I swear, Coastal subs should not be so efficient. I get a ton of battles, but the French Navy refuses all of them giving me a ton of VP. I bet they are waiting for their new Battlecruiser to be commissioned, maybe that one could turn the tide of the war.

Break, frogs. You just have to break.

NzQv25u.jpg

We get another cruiser battle, again the French try to gain another small victory. We'll test our new Mercury class, then.

asUmwp7.jpg

We find prey, a Coetlogon class. it's slower, weaker and older. Despite the bad weather, the fight should be short with our new 8 inches guns. Let's hunt.

OOga74q.jpg

UNNNNGHT

From the mists, A French Battlecruiser appears. Well, this has just become a "fuck it, let's run" situation. Thanks, Beastro , you gave the AI ideas!

dK1pQX2.jpg

We manage to escape without major damage, thanks to the coming night and the bad weather. This update will be crappy, we lost a CL and the French fight us only on their terms.

tMh5afT.jpg

Our flagships gets a French blockade runner. I mistakenly click "Auto-Resolve" :negative:
dPKFx90.jpg

We win, but ..... there is no glory in sinking down something with an autoresolved battle. This update is gonna end up terribly.

WPPMe7t.jpg

Good for me.

rDLetUD.jpg

The parliament asks for our opinion. We'll get more budget! Budget is good, and the russian people thrive on suffering. Plus, Captain Endlosung keeps repeating that "Total War is the Shortest War". I don't understand where he got that idea.

Bundesarchiv_Bild_183-J05235,_Berlin,_Gro%C3%9Fkundgebung_im_Sportpalast.jpg

It's now November 1911, we are winning the war and in six months our new Subs and Destroyers will be ready. We will retire some of the oldest 400 tons Destroyers and refit some old battleships. And then we'll design our new Dread class.

That said, France should break soon. No way they are going to win, bar for some insane luck in finishing their Battlecruiser and employing both of them at the same time against our fleet, and managing to inflict horrible losses. Our single BB should be enough to keep everything under control.

Then, what we will ask from France?

1) European Possessions. I'll be honest, having stuff in the med won't benefit us. Without the Black Sea we'll need specialized ships for another theatre, a thing we can ill afford.

2) African Possessions. Not worth it, IMHO. But I'll obey the will of the cabinet: do you want Russian colonies in Africa? We'll show those darkies the pleasures of alcohol and the truth of Orthodoxy!

3) South East Asian Possessions. We can steal their Chinese and Vietnamese colonies, and they are kinda near our Pacific Fleet.

Your call, Captains!

But I'm not an expert, as I said on the first post. What makes the Young School that bad, in your opinion?

Guerre de Course works great when part of a larger, overarching naval strategy. It worked great for Britain in the Age fo Sail and the US in the Pacific War, but it completely fails when it's the only thing you're navy is built around repeatedly failing the French in the Age of Sail and failing Germany in both World Wars.

France hyping the Juene Ecole was to mollify their realization that they couldn't ever compete with Britain in another war and struggled to find a justification for building their navy while still having it do something should they find themselves at war with the RN.

France in general has viewed their navy with effective contempt because they could never fund it to fully challenge the RN due to the much greater piece of the pie the army demanded and generally lacking a naval mindset and decent administration to properly run one. In the Age of Sail after the failure of Louis XIVs navy they resorted to using the battlefleet purely as an escort for transports, thinking with a army mind that so long as troops got to where they were wanted, it didn't matter if RN ruled the ocean. Once that faded in their mind the navy simply became something to throw at British shipping hoping to attrit some of it foreshadowing the German Uboat fleet, something which failed for the same reason as well.

All of Britain's enemies save for the Dutch in the 17th Century failed to use Sea Control in the same way they themselves did and actively avoided pitched battles into the 18th Century.

But more at hand in the 19th Century, the Juene Ecole caused chaos in French naval building adding to the continued flopping about and over experimentation they did that left them without an effective navy until the late 1920s.

And stop fucking calling it Dreadnaught. You already know it isn't the correct spelling, knock it off.
