Ahhw you Shancoduff you. What praise, Truly you are a bro.The backstory was articulate and beautiful. I cried many tears thinking of the glory of Novistrana and noble Bob Page.
How's that?
TL; DR.
Looking forward to see you play the game, though.
Honesty is a virtue seldom found in today's society, I salute you bro and will deliver.
I realized I needed to read it in order to figure out which choices ended up getting picked, and so I read it. It's pretty good! -I- appreciated it, at least.
The Laclongquan doth brotest too much.Get on with it, man. You are trolling too much.
Your spirit is as radiant as the suns on a hot Tatooine summer's day. Eternal brofist right back at you.Sulimobro, I am with you. Even if I do not post, I am here in spirit.
The eternal brofist be upon you:
As long as you realize it's a glorified boardgame it's quite amusing.Good luck. This game ....I cannot get into it back when I was younger.
Let's Play: Republic: The Revolution - Part 3
In which we get the lay of the land and recruit a good old friend.
I realize I haven't talked about gameplay much, so I'll be explaining some base mechanics in this update.
First things first, let's look at the political parties currently in Ekaterine.
Disregard my amazing photoshop skills for a moment, and see that we don't know anything about them save for their names. We will find out more about the other parties as we go along, and may even be able to recruit some of their employees for our own cause - strengthening ourselves and temporarily weakening the enemy.
New quests show up as entries in our Diary, henceforth referred to as "Dear Kitty". Everytime I complete a quest I'll get a new one in Dear Kitty, which will at times explain some mechanics you might not have figured out yet.
This is the overland map where most of the gameplay will take place. Here we control our party and see the various statistics the game throws at us. I have marked them for your convenience.
A) These are our resources. From top to bottom: Force - Influence - Jewgolds. We will get new resources every day based on the districts we currently control. The blue/red/yellow bars that are everywhere around the map indicate how many of each resource control of the district grants you.
B) This is the clock. This is a real time game without pause, but the way it works is somewhat comparable to paradox games. You can speed up the time with the plus and minus buttons, and when the fingers of the clock reach the dark grey area, your 'turn' ends. Each day is divided into three turns, Morning, afternoon and evening.
C) Shows the district that we start in. To ensure we don't get stuck, the game has graciously given us 25% support in Voronozh Fields. The portraits on the map are recruitable or non-party people. If they are part of a different faction they'll have a small icon in the bottom left.
D) Are the people currently on our 'payroll' As it stands we only have Bob, who will soon have to recruit some more people to win the City of Ekaterine for The glorious Liberal Party of Codexia.
E) shows the district name, as well as the bar that shows us the amount of knowledge we have in that district. If the bar is empty you can't even take any action in the district, but as long as it's slightly filled you'll be able to. This also determines if we can find out what the other factions are doing in this particular district, and the amount of recruitable people we will find out about.
When we first arive in Ekaterine we don't know anything about the area yet. To facilitate the first recruitment, the game presents three options. Those being:
Each is a representation of a different 'alignment', once again: force/jewgolds/influence. The game reduces the cost of actions if you recruit several people of the same alignment, but this will still cause your jewgolds to drop to extremely low levels if you only have wealth people, so I find it's better to have a reasonable spread of ideologies in your party. After all, if you run out of resources you won't be able to keep up support in your districts, which in turn drops your income, which in turn means you'll have 2-3 people doing nothing but sitting in the headquarters all day.
We need a man of the people, so we will recruit Josef Nasarov. He is the sympathetic man of meat, Мясоин, that will win over the plebeians to our cause.
Here we have initiated an action to 'headhunt' Nasarov.
We decide to meet up in the most famous of Novistranan fast food joints, The Commissar Fried Chicken. It was founded by the Great Patriotic War veteran, Commissar Сандерс. This is a fairly nondescript location and will prove to be a fine place to recruit our first ally. We will discuss the initiation of the revolution over a bucket of spicy chicken wings. Please note the secrecy bar: events that you want to be kept a secret will have to be held at places with a high secrecy rating (durr), but trying to garner support for your party works better in places with a low secrecy rating.
A minigame! Here we assign points to 4 'dialogue' options, which we will assign at various moments during the conversation to win over Nasarov. I find it's best to focus all your points in 2 of the 4 options, because that way you'll always get the 15 and 20 point tier. Like so:
We left one of the options on 0, one on 1, one of 6 and one on 9. Truly we cannot fail with such a distribution of points!
Poppycocks, Nasarov has played this game before. Still, we'll always get the 20 points tier, and we only need 29 points (as seen in the bottom left) to convince Nasarov to join our cause. 2x20 = 40, so we're fine.
We win the conversation, and Boris is now officially a member of the Liberal Party of Codexia!
A handshake seals the deal.
Dear Kitty has a new task for us.
We finish the quest almost instantly and get a new one.
We sent Josef out to interact with the people of Ekaterine, and he assures us he'll get on it first thing in the morning.
Letters arive at the LPOC-headquarters. I don't know how they found us, but we'll have to increase security soon.
Semyon Titov and Boris Filatov are butthurt they can't join our amazing party. Tough luck.
After increasing our knowledge of a certain district we will find new people, as demonstrated here.
This is Yuri "Biggie-K" Kalinin, and we won't recruit him in a million years. Fair Codexia has no need for pop-culture, we will get big by appealing to a more cerebral audience. M:
The next morning Josef Nasarov goes out to 'meat' the people and spread the Gospel of Fair Codexia. It's a message of hope - of peace - of prosperity. Needless to say the people respond appropriately.
Well, fuck you guys. You'll be first against the wall when the revolution comes!
(You can click on NPC's you can see walking around the city, and every now and then you'll get a cutscene where they comment on events. Pretty fun)
The surveying of the three closest neighbourhoods pays off, and soon Bob is ready to level up. The stats determine the effectiveness of your actions, and you can also assign a point to a certain skill. We'll go with survey, our information-gathering skill, because that way we'll have to spend less time finding info and we can spend more time taking over neighbourhoods. We put 10 points in Charisma.
We find a new manboon in Voronozh fields. Won't be recruiting him either, we already have Josef for our underhanded plebeian needs.
There's a casino in Morozov Manor, the district directly south of us. Each city has a few buildings that will grant bonuses to the faction in control of the district, and this one will be quite useful. Morozov Manor is our nr. 1 priority from now on.
While we're scouting out the area we encounter some civilians. They believe in the bioware-school of thought to tell your worst troubles to random passers-by, even if they live in a dystopian post-soviet Hellhole. Seriously, I'm beginning to wonder if the people of Novistrana even deserve a normal government.
Every now and then the game throws some newspapers in your face to further the story. It seems Karasov is not happy with the state of affairs and will soon crack down on other political parties. Fuck.
We stumble upon an interesting scene while scouting Morozov Manor. It seems the leader of the Konstantino Kartel is trying to expand his faction with this gentleman. The description says he is corrupt, bah. We will have no need for people such as these in Fair Codexia! He will be second against the wall when the revolution comes! Nonetheless, we should probably look out for this disreputable popo.
Is he an idiot? Doesn't he see he could better work from the shadows, biding his time until he has a sufficient powerbase, then act defiantly now? This way he'll bring Karasov down on all our heads. He will be fourth against the wall, if Karasov doesn't kill him before we can.
We find a church in the district north of Voronozh Fields. I was quite surprised we didn't know about this already, seeing as it's a historical artifact, but hey. Maybe it was a Russian black-ops closed church, only disclosed a few hours ago.
While surveying in Lissitzki towers we find Moriz Kalmakov, a journalist. The description sounds like someone we might need. We have the man of Meat, the GLORIOUS LEADER, and now we need a propagandist. If we control the newspapers we will be able to influence the flow of information. I want to recruit him, but there's only one problem: He's already employed by the Church of Novistrana. Guess we'll have to headhunt him then.
LOOK, A RALLY! A RALLY! OUR ENEMIES DON'T HIDE IN THE SHADOWS, THE BRAVE IDIOTS, THE FOOLS! Seriously, things can only end badly for the Democracy Now Party. Idiots. Alas, poor Robert, I knew him, Josef. A fellow of infinite folly, now to disappear forever into the dungeons of the Karasov. Still, this town isn't big enough for 2 Roberts. He will not be missed.
In the meantime we have set our plan in motion to recruit Moriz. We'll have to wait a day before he has some time, but let's hope he's willing to join us. In the meantime we'll increase our powerbase and bide our time.
To be continued...
