I just registered here to make this thread. Realmz is old but still very fun. Probably the game I have played the most. I just started playing it again and I'm hooked.
Realmz is a non linear RPG strongly inspired by Dungeons and Dragons. The campaigns are called "Scenarios" (sic), and I plan to play several of them. Some will be blind runs, most won't.

Realmz is abandonware and can be downloaded at :
    https://fantasoft.powweb.com/
or at my own page, along with some extras :
    http://digiex.net/downloads/downloa...-divinity-scenario-editor-windows-mac-os.html

I have wanted to make a Let's Play of Realmz for a while, and since it's almost summer break, I think this is a good time to start.

Sitra Achara has already started a LP of Realmz, but never finished it. Still a good read... but full of spoilers of course.
    http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/lp-realmz-city-of-bywater-ch-3-pt-10.66374/

The first step is to create a team of 6 adventurers. The game is possible with less characters, but I will play with 6. I have already played with very unbalanced teams, and I know it's far from impossible. However I would prefer a varied team, to show as many types of characters as possible.
I will start with the Scenario "City of Bywater", and although I know that one very well, I will try to "roleplay" and visit only the hidden locations my characters have heard about in the game, or that are not far from their current location.

    Please submit your characters.

I will want : 1 tank class, and 1 Cleric or Sorcerer type, the 4 others are up to you. I will not accept propositions that are too similar to another one (for example, Rogue and Assassin or Priest and Cardinal) in that case I will pick the one I like best.
Each submission must contain : Name, Gender, Class, Race, and (not mandatory) a description of the character's appearance, personalty or story. I will pick the character's portrait/icon that fits the description the best.
Also, I encourage you to pick "exotic" classes(like Archer, Monk, Rogue or Minstrel) and races (like Pixies, Vampires, Leprechauns...), who have some quirks and make the Let's Play more interesting.

Here are the character Portraits and Icons. The Icon does not have to be the one meant for that portrait !
    http://s1063.photobucket.com/albums...ealmz/?action=view&current=PortraitsIcons.jpg
The picture is 2 MB, so I did not post it here.

Here are the possible Classes/Castes :

    And Races :

    Possible Race/Class combinations :

Those pages are a bit lacking... Here are short, unbiased (?) descriptions of each class and race :

    Classes :

Tanks : They won't mind getting hit, and do good physical damage too. Race does not matter too much but can limit what the chatracter can equip... Kobolds can t use Long Swords for example.

Fighter : high health, can use almost all armor and most weapons. Their critical hit rating increases with their level. My favourite no-magic heavy armor class.
Fencer : Similar to Fighter, but they can t use Ranged weapons, and only Chain armor. They get a passive Protection ability at a higher level, and their critical hits rating rises faster than Warriors. Perfectly usable too.
Monk : High health but only cloth armor. Can use only small weapons and staves, and thrown weapons. Their unarmed damage and Critical Hit Rating increase as they level up. A monk can make a good main tank, even without heavy armor. They are good at picking locks and acrobatics too. At high level, they get some elemental resistances and increased health regeneration over time.
Crusader : Read Paladin. They can use heavy armor and most melee weapons, but not ranged weapons. They get high health, and get mid-level Cleric abilities after a few levels. Their Critical hit Rating never increases. They do get more attacks per turn than Priests and cardinals though. They have a passive Magic Aura that gives 5% evade and accuracy (all cleric casts can give this to everyone in the group). Non-specialized spell casters can only cast 1 spell per turn. They are not as good as the ones above if there is a spell caster around, but they are self sufficient.
Berserker : Like Fighters who can only use Padded(utte rcrap) or Cloth armor and can't use bows, or like Monks who don't get unarmed bonuses can can use big weapons. They start strong but don't become very strong later... Their Critical Hit Rating still increases as they level up, unlike Crusaders.

Archer Classes : Their damage with Bows increases as they level up, and only them can use the best Bows in the game. Invisibility is very useful for them.

Archer : Best Bow/Crossbow users, can use chain armor, shield and most one handed weapons. They can take hits well enough too. They can use nets to immobilize enemies, like thief classes. They get very limited magic abilities later. At level 10 they become immune to ranged weapons.
Marksman : Almost like Archers, a very little bit stronger but they never get to use Magic.

Thief Classes : Not so good at fighting at lower levels, they get better later. Very good at acrobatics/lock picking. Thief Classes get special critical hits that do 3 times more damage instead of twice.

Rogue : Critical hit rating increases as they evel up. Their Health can be decent. They can use Shields, Leather armor, bows and medium sized weapons. They get very limited magic abilities at high level, and "Invisibility" at level 8, which allows them to run from an enemy without getting attacked in the back.
Bard : NOT Minstrel. Similar to Rogue, start stronger but they don t get mroe Critical Hits as they level up, and never get any magic. I don't like them.
Assassin : Similar to Rogue, but they can't use shields...

Magic Classes. Note that those withthe most atatck per turn can be decent physically if they have a physically strong race.

Sorcerer : They get a mix of Cleric and Enchanter spells, ie defensive and offensive spells, up to the highest level. They use cloth armor, small weapons, and staves. The best Staff is Sorcerer only. They can also throw darts. Specialized spell casting classes can make spell scrolls to store spells for later battles. Poor Health and physical attack. 2 spells per turn. At v 25 they regenerate Mana faster.
Cabalist : Similar to Sorcerers, with 3 spells per turn, and they can't use darts or staves. I like them better. Later, they get low level magic resistance as a passive.

Priest : They get all the Cleric(support) spells, and can make scrolls. Can use almost all hammers and maces, and heavy armor. They get few attacks per turn (buth they can hit pretty well), and can cast 2 spells per turn. Mostly a spell casting class. They also have a free "Turn/Destroy demons and undeads" ability, which gets better as they level up. They get a passive Magic Aura and Evade later, but they can cast those buffs anyways.
Cardinal : Similar to Priests, but they can cast 3 spells per turn and can only use Chain armor. They geta bit more attacks per round. Their Turn Undead ability is a bit weaker. I like them better than Priests. They get the same passive as Priests.

Enchanter : Get all the Enchanter spells (mostly attacks and summons, some defensive too), and can make scrolls. 2 spells per turn, and very few attacks per turn. Can use daggers, staves and darts, and wear cloth or padded armor (completely useless). Poor health, of course. At lv 25 they start regenerating MP faster.
Evoker : Similar to Enchanters, with 3 spells per turn, and more attacks per turn. Can only use Cloth armor and can't use darts. I like them better than Enchanters. Later, they get passive low level Magic resistance.
Warlock : Similar to Evokers, they get Turn Undead, and have a little bit less health, wich makes them the squichiest class in the game. I like them a lot too. Later, they can regenerate MP faster and recover some when they are hit by a spell.

Warrior-Mage Classes : The Jack-Of-All-Trades. They only get up to mid-level magic. Only Minstrels get more Critical Hit Rating as they level up. I included Crusaders in Tanks. Only one spell per turn. All of them can tank decently.

Battle Mage : Can wear Banded Armor (second best), and use most Melee Weapons, not bows. They also get Mid Level Offensive and Healing magic (Sorcerer Spells). The real jack-of-all-trades. They only get 3 attacks per turn though.
Dabbler : Can wear Banded Armor (second best), and use most Melee Weapons, not bows. They also get Mid Level Offensive Magic and Summons (Enchanter Spells). 4 attacks per round limit, so unless they are a small and fast race, taht won't be a big limit.
Minstrel : The most "Recently" added class. Minstrels get a bit less Enchanter spells than Dabblers, and can only use Chain Armor and light gloves. Their Critical Hit Rating increases as they level up. They also get some unique abilities from their instruments and songs.

Races : Note that high MAX attack/round is useless if that Class can not reach that cap ! Attack bonuses help reach that cap faster, and may be required for the classes with 6 attacks/round like Archer, Fighter, Fencer, Crusader, Thieves, Not always worth sacrificing brawn though.

Human : Average at everything, 4 atatcks per turn cap. Movement speed :12.
Elf/ShadowElf : A bit weake rphysically than humans, can't equip stuff that increases heath regeneration. 4 attacks/turn limit. Movement Speed :13. Only Elves Archers can equip the Bow of the ELves, but the Bow of Champions is just as good.
Half Elf : 12 movement speed, 4 attacks per turn. ALl of the drawbacks of being an Elf, None of the advantages.
Orc : Very strong physically. Good Critical hit rating. 4 attacks/Round limit. Movement speed : 14
Half Orc : A bit stronger than Humans, 13 Movement Speed, 4 attacks/round.
Furfoor : Hobbit. Passibe Cold Protections from their furry feet. 5 attacks per round limit, only 10 movement points. Pretty weak physically. Get 1/2 attack per turn bonus. Small Size.
Gnome : 10 Movement Speed, 4 attack per rounds, almost the same stats as Humans, but can't equip everything due to their small size. Passive Psi Protection.
Dwarf : Good physical stats, 10 Movement Speed, max 4 attacks per round. Small Size but still can use everything. Passive Chemical Protection. Only Dwarves can use the Hammer of Thor.
Goblin : Very high Vitality, so they get a lot of Health.A bit stronger than Humans. Small Size but can still use heavy armor and ongswords, just not shields and 2 handed weapons. 14 movement points, and maximum 5 attacks per rounds, with a 1/2 attack per round bonus ! Awesome race.
HobGoblin : 11 Movement, max 5 attacks per round witha 1/2 atatck per round bonus, normal sized. A bit less Vitality than Goblins. Very good race too.
Kobold : 13 Movement points, 6 attacks per round, 1 extra attack/round bonus, good Elemental resisitances. Small sized, which limits their equipment to medium sized weapons and shields like goblins. Awesome Race too.
Vampire : Best stats in the game, and they get higher as they age. 18 movement Points, 4 max attacks per turn and extra 1/2 attack/turn. However they may not equip some "holy" items.
Lizard Man : 12 Movement Points, 5 max Attacks per round, Passive increased Health Regeneration. Normal Sized. Good physically.
Brownie : 14 Movement Points, 6 max attacks per turn, 1 extra attack per round bonus. but Equipment limitations due to size. Weak physically too. passive Invisibility.
Pixie : 6 max attacks per round, 1 extra Attack per round, 24! Movement Points, Passive very low evel magic resistance. Weak Physically.
Leprechaun : 14 Movement Points, 6 attacks per round limit, 1/2 extra atatck per round. Not as weak as brownies and Pixies, and their Vitality is quite good. Passive Invisibility.
Demon : 10 Movement Speed, 4 attacks per turn, extra 1/2 attack per turn, good Physical Stats. Like Vampires, they may not equip some "Holy" items. Passive Fire Protection and very Low Level Magic Resistance.

MHC, male, priest, goblin. Reporting for character creation! Though I might not stick around for the full adventure because I don't actually read LPs much.

Also gonna rub my greasy healing hands all over Tripjack.

OK, 3/6 already ! I hate ads, but advertising on Mult-iHeaded Cow's topic really helped. :seenoevil:

I will start with the boring technical shit you don't really need to read : explaining what some stats mean. Some are obvious, i won't explain what they do.

Brawn : The most important stat for any class, IMO. Increases +Damage, Critical Hit Rate (not for thieves), and how much the character can carry, which is VERY useful. Characters with very low Brawn are crippled : I created a 4 Brawn Female Cabalist Pixie, and with only a Robe, Boots, Gloves and a Dagger (starting gear), no food or money (which weights a lot) she was at 392/500, and hadonly 6 Movement Points, 25 Movement Points with an empty inventory.
Knowledge : Not very useful, it only increases how fast Enchanter and Sorcerer classes get new spells, if it's higher than 15. Also increases magic Resistance a bit.
Judgment : Same as Knowledge for Priest spells.
Agility : Increases Armor (chance to dodge/block, actually), and Critical Hit rate. Not extremely important but always nice to have, for any class that can take melee damage. Also increases stats for special out-of-combat encounters (that includes traps) like Lock Picking and Acrobatics.
Vitality : Any Vitality point above 15 gives an extra STamina/Health point at level-up. Very useful. However, the most squishy classes have a cap on how many bonus points they can get from Vitality, for example Marksmen can only get +4, so having more than 19 Vitality would be useless. Most specialized magic using classes can only get +3 or +1, and usually don't have that much Vitality anyways. Having less than 15 Vitality gives no penalty, but those extra Stamina Points matter a lot.
Luck : To be honest, I have no idea what this one does. i know it can help with some special out-of-combat encounters...

Attack Bonus : Extra accuracy from base stats and equipment, actually.
Defense Bonus : Almost the same as Armor, I think... Sometimes they are a bit different, but I can't see the difference between those 2 stats.
+X Damage : Bonus damage to physical attacks, from base stats and equipment. THE Stat you will want to get as high as possible for physical fighters.
Damage reduction VS... : Chance to halve damage taken from that element, or prevent status effects.

    REST = OBVIOUS.

    And last and least :
:cool:Prestige : Useless, but is a rough indicator of how well your character did. A bit biased, though. Clicking it displays damage gives/taken, times dead/unconscious, spells cast in combat, etc. I will show you that stuff every now and then.

And now, here are the first 3 Characters.

One thing I hate about Realmz is that stats are randomized at character creation, and stats gained at level-up are random too. A gigantic pain in the ass for perfectionists like me. That's normal in Dungeons and Dragon, but why did Fantasoft need to rip off the annoying parts ?
Since this is a Let's play, I did not reroll each characters hundreds of times as I usually do, and I will only cheat the level-ups if the stat get far from the theoric average. I still reroll if I get a low Brawn, though.

Fist Character, Azira, a grumpy greedy Male Marksman Leprechaun. Some stupid big humans (or maybe something else ? an Ogre of a Krise maybe ?) stole his pot of Gold (NO WAY he could have forgotten where he put it, or that he buried it in the bed of a dry river). Now, he WILL get his pot of gold back. And if it's not the one he had before, that's fine too. Having no idea what to do, he joined the best team of adventurers he could find : 5 other newbies.
WOW, 21 Stamina at level 1. really a lot for that level. Remember how eklektyk (Dwarf Priest) only had 1 Health at that level, in Sitra Achara's LP ? :D Maximum Vitality for a Marksman too (should I try to get him a few bad level-ups ?). I'm sure this little guy will be able to tank if needed, not that he will have to with that Invisibility racial (he can still be targeted, but won't take an extra attack when running away from an enemy). Very good race choice. Agility may seem low for a bow user, but in this game Agility is actually useless for them.
His Knowledge and Judgement won't matter, but still :stupid: . However, he has high Charm resistance. Charm is extremely dangerous in this game, so that's very very nice.
And it looks like the little bitch hates Magic Users, Reptiles and Giants. Racism bonuses ! :salute:

Yeah, I m trying to roleplay it. Don't worry, I won't overdo it once the LP actually starts, I 'm just giving them some background.
    Edit : I won't stop.

Second Character, Jack, Male Demon Monk who just loves mindless violence. Most monks worry about training their mind as well as their body, and strive for harmony with the rest of the world. Jack doesn't care about that crap. jack doesn't even care about improving his skill. Jack just wants to crush skulls with his bare hands. And for now, he sucks at it. He used to live in Hell, but one day, while he was having fun in the torture chambers, he heard a powerful voice in his head calling him, fell on his knees, and finally fainted. When he woke up, he was still in a deep cave, but not the one he knew. He wal lying on a large pentagram, which prevented him from moving. A human in long, dark red robes looked down on him. "Now you will serve me, Demon". If what that guy wanted was a fighter, he would not have minded. but no, he became a PET. a TOY. When the old wizard finally died, he could finally get out of his tower, and found himself in a large cave. There, he met Ogres, who were absurdly violent, just like him. Having lost most of his powers, he was forced to flee the cave, and ended up in the mountains, completely lost.
Yeah, his Bare hand Damage still suck, but it will get +2 every level-up. At very high evel, monks are awesome, though. His 20 Brawn will help with that too.
13 Stamina may seem low compared with Azira's 21, but that's actually pretty good at that level. It's just that Azira got really lucky. Jack also has 22 Vitality, which is very good. 19 Agility is more than average too, and gives some Armor rating (which won't be high until he gets some magic Gloves). Luck does not matter too much, I hope. Also, he's not retarded like that midget. ;)
He may be a Demon, but he does not particularly like his own kind. Actually, he loves to fight other Demons. Not really because he hates them, but because they can endure more pain than mortals. Same goes for Undeads.
However, he remembers the evil Wizard who summoned him to the Realmz World, and whom he used to serve. Even though he is dead now (of old age...), he is still affraid of Magic Users.
One thing I don't like about him is that Demons only get 10 Movement Points, which is low for a Melee Fighter. he will get equipment that will raise this, though. And with taht brawn, he won't be encumbered too much.
This is the first time I take a Strong and Slow race for a Monk, i usually pick Kobold or Cathoon for the extra attacks per round. It should not matter too much, though.

Third Character, MHC, Male Goblin Priest. MHC Is not the kind of priest you find in Human Towns. MHC is a Goblin Priest. He does not only heal the diseased, he spreads the diseases too. He does not only soothe the souls of the dead, he binds the souls of the living. At least he would like to. He may be a novice, but he is determined to impress his superiors. He will show them that he summoned a Demon, beings that goblins fear and sometimes worship. Which he is unable to do, Summons are very high level spells for Priests, and he is a noob. However, one day, returning from a failed raid on the Orc Village, he met a massive demon, who was completely clueless as to where he was , what he should do, and where he would find people he could crush mercilessly without having to suffer the consequences. He was Level 1 too, and calls himself Jack. Jack sure was impressive, but still Level 1. So he decided to stay around him, until he becomes strong enough to be shown to his tribe.
Spells known : I picked Shine (light in caves), Heal Small Wounds (heals 1-8 Stamina per 10 Spell Points, up to a maximum of 7-56), and Soul Bind (stuns enemies, then it's a one hit kill!). Turn Undead skill is only 6, so it won't work very often. It gets higher as he levels up though.
Goblins age fast, so he is only 12 years old  .
Very nice Stats, after only a few Rolls. 5 Stamina is much better that what THAT OTHER PRIEST had. 20 Brawn, Agility AND Vitality (normal for a Goblin !). Judgment is not high enough for bonuses, but that's OK. 34 Spell points at level 1 is as high as it gets. He will get few attacks per round, but will still be able to fight well. At least for now. He will mostly be a magic user, 2 spells per round is good enough for a Priest, they cast most of their spells out of combat anyways.
Roleplay explanations for his bonuses/maluses against other races :
Now that he knows Jack, he is not scared of Demons at all, they are actually not much stronger than Humans, or even Goblins. At least, Jack is not. However, he is still scared of the Undead, whom he should be able to take control of, but still can not. And like most small creatures, he hates taller races.

Johannes, male kobold fencer. For ridiculous number of attacks fast.
If there's still room, that is.

What are good scenarios to try btw? Apart from Bywater, which everyone probably starts by.

What a fine group we make with our vampire minstrel, demon monk, goblin priest, leprechaun archer and lizardman enchanter! I'm sure we'll be made to feel most welcome at any tavern we should come across.

I answer fast, but my posts have to be approved by a moderator before they show up, so don't be surprised if I don't update for a while.

This little background story involves demon-summoning again. it's not that I lack imagination, this is a part of the Krise Caverns. Not the save Caverns as in Jack's backstory, by the way.
Those backstories are getting longer and longer... I need to explain how those dumbasses met each other, you see ?

Fourth character : Arpad, Male Lizardman Enchanter. Arpad used to live in the Krise Caverns, along with the other Krise. Like almost every other race, they were at war with the Goblins to the North. Fortunately, a Human Wizard offered them his help, in exchange for their obedience. It's not that Arpad was rebellious or anything. The Wizard fascinated him, and his superior magic even more. So much that, one day, when the Wizard was away from his cave, he snuck up inside and stole some of his magical artefacts, including his spellbook. The Wizard did not notice immediately, he already knew every spell in the book and almost never needed to read it. However, Arpad discovered a spell to summon a Demon in that book. A few days later, in a part of the Krise Cavern where no one ever comes, he drew the summoning symbol on the ground, placed the offerings around it as the book explained, and... He was seen before he could finish the ritual. Knowing the Wizard would have killed him for that, and the other krise would have accepted that in their blind servitude, he had no choice to run away. In the cold, goblin-infested outdoors. He has not lost hope. He still has his stolen spellbook. Wandering around, he found the goblin priest MHC, and tried to avoid the fight by bluffing and showing off the spellbook. MHC had Jack alongside him, and they could have easily killed the poor Lizardman. But when Jack saw that Arpas was a magician who seemed as powerful as his previous master, he surrendered. MHC and Arpad chatted a bit, and soon found out they both had a passion for Magic and otherwordly creatures. Now being an outcast, Arpad decided to betray his people and joined MHC in his quest for glory. A bit later, they found a wounded Leprechaun near the Krise Caverns. He was hurt, but still very able to talk. He bragged that he had found a bunch of precious jewelry in a cave, but the Krise stopped him from running away with it .That was the offering Arpad for the Demon Arpad was trying to summon. Arpad explained him what that was, and Azera decided to join them, because traveling around looking for treasure was too much for a single Leprechaun.

Spells known : Discover Magic (discovers and identifies magic items), Ogre Hide (party buff that reduces physical damage taken by 5 !), Lightning Strike (very long range attack that goes through walls, single target, 1-6 damage per 4 Spellpoints up to a maximum of 7-42 Damage).
I usually make Evokers or Warlocks instead of Enchanters, for the extra spedd per turn. However this one looks perfecty fine. Low Judgment (as reflected in his backstory:) does not matter, Knowledge won't matter once he gets the spells he needs. Brawn is high, and Vitality is as high as it needs to be (Enchanters don't benefit from having more than 18). Also, +4 Damage with physical atatcks ! too bad Enchanters have so few atatcks per turn (2 Maximum), and can only use very small weapons. 21 Agility gives him a nice armor boost as well, and maybe the ability to wear padded armor will make a difference. He won't be as powerful as a Evoker or Warlock, but won't be as fragile.
One of the big roles of Enchanters is to summon stuff. Enchanters can learn to summon (shitty) creatures at very low level, and keep getting better at it. They also get Cosmic Blast, which hits every enemy, and the AWESOME Death Cloud, which is a instant death spell with a 3x3 area of effect. Even if he can "only" cast 2 Death Clouds or summon "only" 12 creatures per turn, he can't be that bad.

Let's say his +3 Bonus against Reptilians comes from the grudge he holds against his fellow Lizardmen. That will do.

Fifth, and second-to-last, member : Monty male Human Fighter. Monty is officially a mercenary, who works with the military of the City of Bywater. His work to do... Not much, actually. Those in charge do not deem him trustworthy , healthy or skilled enough, especially stince he started stending his days in Newt's Landing, an ill-attended tavern near the east gate. He did not really need to work though, as during one of his missions outside the town (to go check those rumours about an orc nomadic tribe having settled camp not far away), which he never finished, he witnessed a Leprechaun poorly hiding his pot of gold in a hole, below some fallen leave. Not having any remorse for the brainless midget - the Orcs would have found the pot easily anyway, he thought - that is, if he were anywhere near the Orc camp he was supposed to investigate - he quickly took it and brought him to his shack in Bywater. And proceeded to stend it all in the most unproductive ways possible. He eventually caught syphilis by frequenting the town brothel too much, and the priests in the Temple of Sestuona would never accept to cure him, he was banned from the Temple for having mistaken the Head Priest with his favourite prostitute ("Gray hair, Blonde hair, what's the difference ? and they both wear dresses !"), and he did not have enough money to buy redemption. Money buys everything. He did not even have enough gold left to pay for the shack he was renting, and had to move outside the town, to a deserted farm house in a place where Hill Giants ran rampant. A few days later, a group of 4 odd creatures, including the Leprechaun he had seen a few weeks before, barge into his house to hide from the local Hill Giants. He recognized the Leprechaun, but the Leprechaun did not even loot at him, he was still crying about how those dirty hill giants and Krise attacked him and stole his gold. One of the creatures happened to be a priest. And clearly not from he Temple, it was a Goblin ! The goblin offered to heal his syphilis ("when I will have a high enough level") in exchange for his protection, and if he could help them get inside the City of Bywater. Monty, feeling that his luck came back, accepted immediately. And the Leprechaun still does not recognize him. Perfect.
Yes, that's a Half-Orc face, not a Human face. I thought it would fit his character better.
I must say I never pick Humans for the tank jobs, because their Brawn is not very high, and they only get 4 attacks per turn. I prefer LizardMen or HobGoblins. But I like to have Humans in my group, so I'm not unhappy to have him in my team. Fighters level a bit faster than most other classes.
His stats are very average but the ones that really matter are high. the Humans' +3 against Evil enemies is pretty nice, we will get to fight a lot of evil stuff.

    Speak of the devil....

Sixth and final member : the GreatOldOne, Male Vampire Minstrel. The GreatOldOne has lived in the City of Bywater for a while, and people are starting to get suspicious of him. Especially the people at the Brothel, which is like a restaurant for him. He got to now Monty because they both frequent that place, and Monty is hard not to notice. When Monty showed up with a team full of adventurers, he felt it would be a good opportunity to ransack the city before leaving, and decided to join them.
He is very good at acting like a human (and good at acting in general), so few people will notice he is a Vampire.
He can not use magic yet, but he already has 15 Spell Points because he starts with a Pipes instrument equipped, which gives 1% Magic resistance and 15 Spell Points. Only Minstrels can equip instruments.
His stats are a bit average, but he is a Minstrel, not a Berserker, so that's normal. By aging (63 puts him in the Youth category !) , all his base stats except luck will get +2, and his resistances will all get +5%. Minstrels level up fast at first, then slow down a bit. And look at those 17 Movement points .
Also, he has a -2 penalty against other Undeads, and a -1 Penalty against anything very evil.... Compassion for his evil friends ?

Johannes had proposed a Kobold Fencer, which would be nice too (probably better than a Human Warrior), but I'd like to have at least one human in my group, for storytelling reasons. I could have removed Jack, but I like Monks. And we already have two chain armor users. Plus, Kobolds can't use longswords. Kobold Warriors start witha BroadSword and they are unable to equip them XD
    Sorry, Johannes :(
But 3 attacks per round at level 1 IS sexy.

So, we have a Marksman, a Priest, a Monk, an Enchanter, a Fighter and a Minstrel. I'm more used to magic users who can cast 3 spells per turn, but this looks like a good party. Not enough magic users for my tastes, but GreatOldOne will be able to help with the Cosmic Blasting, the Noxious Clouding and the Summoning

    I will start playing later.

Tell me if there is something you don't like about the character's backstory or portrait.

Thanks a lot, we are good to go. i have work to do so I won't update for a bit. And I stil have to wait for a moderator to approve everything I post.. How long does this "test period" last ?

Good Scenarios.... I like Assault of Giant Mountain, Destroy the Necronomicon, Mithril Vault. Castle in the Clouds is not bad. i have not played many third party scenarios, and never registered Pierre Vachon 's swords land trilogy... He had e-mailed me that he does not have the codes for them, Fantasoft does (and fantasoft is dead). I found the codes for them ( not wrath of the mind lords) not long ago.
For third party scenarion, i remember that Elemental Strife and Journey to the Mire were good, Trial by fire was ok, Hax looked awesome but I never registered it, maybe I can use CheatEngine to pass through the "register or go back" area ? :p

Nice work... and good to know Monty has syphilis already, usually it takes me a bit longer to attain that status in a RPG.

I'm perfectly fine with my leprechaun having low knowledge and judgment, I think of him as a perpetually drunk, foul-smelling and cursing little bugger whose only saving grace is that insanely high luck score (and racial invisibility). :salute:

Actually, Sitra Achara, you are the one who inspired me

    Starting City of Bywater now.

Welcome to "The City of Bywater", a scenario for use with the Realmz Scenario Driver. if you enjoy playing Realmz and would like to see more scenarios developpedn please support us by sending in your registration fee.
Once you have registered this copy of Realmz, you will be able to play the entire scenario. This scenario is very loose. It does not have a strong plot like. You can adventure where you want for as long as you want.
Once you have registered this copy of Realmz, you will also be able to play test other scenarios BEFORE having to register them. The fee for each additional scenario are $13 each. For information on how to register, see chapter 3 of the Realmz Manual.
Other scenarios utilize the capabilities of the Realmz scenario driver to a greater extent. These scenarios feature a definite plot line, new monsters, new magical items and more dangerous encounters.

Yeah, they really wanted us to register it... Actually, City of Bywater was made while the engine was developped, that is where Fantasoft tried the new features. That's why the scenario is so non-linear, it's actually a mish-mash of simple stuff they made for testing and practice. The result is still good, though. Some later scenarios offer a lot of side-quests too.

There is a lot of dialog in this update because it's the intro. They will be less chatty later. And this update is very short because it's late.

[IMG] See ? I told you we could enter the town from the north, without having to pass the gates.
[IMG] I would never have found this passage myself. I would not even have looked for it. This shitty mountain path was a huge pain, and we could have just used the gates.
[IMG] Uh, if the guards at the gates let goblins enter the human city, I'm sure I would have heard of it... Maybe they would let you in, as you are basically ashorter, smellier human. But certainly not a goblin, a demon or a lizard. By the way, do we need to use this path everytime we need to enter or leave the city ?
[IMG] Actually.. I think the guards will assume you are peaceful and civilized if you come from here. I have seen some other non-humans walk in and out freely. You may need some papers or something, I'm not really sure. We will ask later. And shut up, shorty, you had a horse too.
[IMG] And where did you get all those horses ? I thought you were broke !
[IMG] I was living in a recently abandonned farm. There were some recently abandonned horses in the stables. Is it that hard to guess ?
[IMG] What business do we have in this town, anyways ?
[IMG] He told you. We help him cure his disease, and he helps us... survive. He may not be that strong, but at least he knows the place, and can help us negociate with other humans so they don't kill us on sight. And we will still be safer in a human town than in the Hills giants territory.
[IMG] Hah ! I 'd love to see them try !
[IMG] We are in a human town ! There must be a lot of treasures and magic items ! We could try to get our hands on some. I would love to have some more, Jack needs to become stronger than an earth worm, Azira could sell his share for some precious gold, and MHC would be more likely to help you cure your disease ! what do you say ?
[IMG] I don't care about those shitty human-made items, but they ARE worth a lot of money. Monty is not the only one who needs money badly here !
[IMG] Heh, good idea, Lizard. But first, there is something I would like to show you. Do your species have a lot of STDs ?
[IMG] No, we are not really into abstract mathematics.
[IMG] We do. A lot. We can live with them, though. Why do you ask ? You don't intend to contaminate us with your, do you ?
[IMG] No, not really, no. but before we start working, there is a place I would like you to visit. I'm sure you have seen nothing like this in your crappy villages.

[IMG] Hey, GreatOldOne ! how are you doing ?
[IMG] Not very well, I'm affraid. I will need to move to another city soon, due to... troubles with some local gangs. I had an affair with one of their girls, and that had some unexpected consequences. I don't really know where to go yet, though. What about you, kid ?
[IMG] Why do you call me "kid" ?
[IMG] You are 16 years old, it says so on your Status window.
[IMG] Uh.. Sure, whatever, boy. Well, it's a bit weird, now that I think about it. I met a bunch of weird people in the farm I'm squatting. And they offered to help me cure that disease I caught here if I help them get money and stuff. It's weird, but it can't be a bad idea, right ? They look like a decent bunch.
[IMG] So, you will probably go adventuring, right ?
[IMG] That's the idea. We need more... experience with that, though. We still can't deal with Hill Giants outside.
[IMG] *watches the rest of the group*
    [IMG] *grins evilly*
[IMG] You know what ? That looks like a very good idea. Your guys seem to be beginners too, but looks very fierce. Can i join you ? I would not mind staying in Bywater some more. I know where we could get a lot of Gold.
[IMG] Me too ! We could try to get my offerings back from the Hill Giants ! They should not be as much of a problem with those two humans with big swords !
[IMG] I don't mind, as long as I get 50% of the loot like everyone else. And YES, DEATH TO ALL HILL GIANTS !
[IMG] Sure ! We can all take 50%, no one will be jealous.
    [IMG] Wait, what ?
[IMG] Hum... OK, sure, we have a deal. Can we wait a bit before fighting Hill Giants , though ?
[IMG] But first, I want to show those guys what Bywater has to offer.
[IMG] This place stinks of piss, old sperm and cheap perfume. I'm not going to waste what little gold I have left here.
[IMG] And don't forget what happened to you here... Azira, you are right about the smell, I need some fresh air.

[IMG] We look fierce, eh ?
[IMG] Very. I am sure we will achieve great things together.
    [IMG] Hehehe... We will.

Sorry if there is little actual gameplay, but I wanted to introduce the characters. Tell me if that storytelling bores you. Now it's your turn to participate, please decide what we will start with. We can :
    [IMG] Enter other buildings
    [IMG] Walk around the city
[IMG] Try to get in fights to get exp
    [IMG] Explore outside the city
    [IMG] Stay in the brothel
    [IMG] Get easy money

[IMG] We should acquire some gold so we can buy some better equipment. Come, I will show you the best thing about being a Minstrel.
[IMG] What ? You are not a Warrior ?! What do you plan to do then ? Sing in the streets and beg ?
[IMG] Certainly not ! Follow me, I will show you.

[IMG] What the fuck are we doing here ? We want to EARN money, not SPEND money !
    [IMG] Shut up and watch.

First, we click the money tab. Very rarely, you will start with a lot of gold in the bank. Most likely a bug. And guess what ? It happened in this game ! Realmz is a bit buggy...

And there's an extra 0 that is not displayed. There is actually 25580 Gold in there.

[IMG] GOOOOOLD ! ALLL FOR MEEEEEE !
[IMG] No way, that would be too heavy. First, we have to trade the gold for gems, which weight much less for the same value. We may lose a bit of money in the trade, but it's better than being stuck with 2 Movement points. Then, we...

[IMG] CHEAT ATTEMPT DETECTED, DELETING GOLD.

[IMG] NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo ! The gold vanished !
[IMG] Our absurd luck must have angered some jealous deity. Certainly not one I would want to worship.
[IMG] Don't worry, that's not what I had planned to do, anyways. Watch this !

We open the Shop Window :

[IMG] See ? Musical Instruments can all be sold for 32 000 Gold...
    [IMG] *DROOLZ*
    [IMG]
[IMG] AND we can buy them back for their normal price. Pipes are only 250 Gold, but that works with all other instruments.
[IMG] If those were uilleann pipes, I would have asked you to marry me.
[IMG] See, Gems are much lighter than Gold :

[IMG]DUMBASS ! I WANT A POT OF GOLD, NOT A POT OF GEMSTONES ! AND WE LOST MONEY IN THE TRADE !

[IMG] CHEAT ATTEMPT DETECTED, REBOOTING UNIVERSE.
TEMPORARY PATCH : REMOVING UNDEAD BRAIN CELLS.

    [IMG] Hey, that tickles !
    [IMG] I didn't touch you.

Oh yes, Another bug, only in the WIndows version it seems. It always says the scenario played is Lachis (a short 3rd party scenario). This bug does not exist in the Mac version.

Most 3rd party scenarios only have a Mac version, so I will play those on the Basilisk emulator.
Fortunately, Character Files are the same on both systems.

[IMG] So, what did you say you were going to do, GreatOldOne?
[IMG] Uh... Let's explore the town, someone will probably have a job for us.
[IMG] I knew it would be something like this... Vampires are gay.
[IMG] Maybe the brothel would have a job for a pretty boy like you ?

I knew you would pick "easy money"... I only wanted to show some bugs. The "25k gold in the bank when you arrive" one was unexpected though. It has happened to me several times, but it's still rare.

Please vote again. If no one has voted when I start the next update, I will pick one myself.
    [IMG] Enter other buildings

Yes, let's enter other buildings. How basic is our equipment? Do we all have enough to get by with for now (weapons etc)?

Great Old One seems OK from that screenshot but I know with some games you don't even have armour etc when you start and need to buy the basics. If we don't need any immediate equipment then I guess xp is our main aim at this stage as we have a bit of gold.

Glad we didn't exploit those bugs (thought for a moment you were going to) as starting out useless and poor and building up is often the most fun part of these games.

The equipment they start with is the worst in the game, but still enough to "get by". And we won't get anything much better for a little while. There are a few good items we could get easily without fighting anything, but I won't try to get them ASAP just to make the rest easier.

Here 's what everyone has :

They all have 36 Iron Rations each : What they lack in taste they more than make up in nutrition.
And 6 Torchs each : A stout stick covered in pitch.

The Dagger can be useful for all who can equip it (MHC can't), in case they fumble their weapon. Fumbling can be disabled in the Options but that gives a -5% experience penalty . Of course, the Daggers should be replaced with something better ASAP.

Their equipment is of course of the worst quality, but still MUCH better than nothing. Most of their survavibility still comes from their Health, not their equipment, though.
As you can see, most of it is heavy, rough, and smelly.

MHC does have a decent 39 Armor. and 5 Health. Lowest health and highest armor....
Monty and GreatoldOne have 22 Armor, and 14/15 Health.
Arpad has 18 Armor because of his very high agility, and only 6 Health.
Azira has 16 Armor, and 21 !!! Health.
Jack has 14 Armor, and 13 health.

    • Azira :
      • Quiver of Arrows : Sturdy shafts that fly straight and true.
      • Bow (1-6 damage) : Made of fine wood, this bow will be of great use in the hands of a great warrior.
      • Leather Gloves (2 Armor) : Loose fitting and poorly made, these gloves are barely adequate for the job.
      • Leather Boots (1 Armor) : Comfortable boots made of soft leather, they offer some protection against the elements.
      • Leather Armor (9 Armor) : Made from the hide of some ill-fated creature. the protection it offers is hardly worth dealing with the stench.
      • Dagger (1-4 damage) : A fine blade.
    • Jack :
      • Nunchuka (sic) (1-6 Damage) : Made of polished teak, this weapon is usable only by the skilled.
      • Robe (3 Armor) : An abrasive cloth that wears on both the skin and patience.
      • Leather Boots (1 Armor) : Comfortable boots made of soft leather, they offer some protection against the elements.
      • Dagger (1-4 damage) : A fine blade.
    • MHC :
      • Mace (1-6 Damage) : Heavy but effective. this weapon is preferred by the holy warrior.
      • Shield (6 Armor) : Sturdy and strong, this shield will stop many a strong swing, if used properly.
      • Helm (3 Armor) : This is a tortuous rendition of finer helms. A true delight to remove.
      • Chain Armor (15 Armor) : Heavy and binding, but effective in stopping most awkward thrusts.
      • Leather Gloves (2 Armor) : Loose fitting and poorly made, these gloves are barely adequate for the job.
      • Leather Boots (1 Armor) : Comfortable boots made of soft leather, they offer some protection against the elements.
    • Arpad :
      • Robe (3 Armor) : An abrasive cloth that wears on both the skin and patience.
      • Leather Boots (1 Armor) : Comfortable boots made of soft leather, they offer some protection against the elements.
      • Dagger (1-4 damage) : A fine blade
    • Monty :
      • Broadsword (1-8 Damage) : A cumbersome weapon that looks far better at a distance.
      • Shield (6 Armor) : Sturdy and strong, this shield will stop many a strong swing, if used properly.
      • Helm (3 Armor) : This is a tortuous rendition of finer helms. A true delight to remove.
      • Leather Armor (9 Armor) : Made from the hide of some ill-fated creature. the protection it offers is hardly worth dealing with the stench.
      • Leather Gloves (2 Armor) : Loose fitting and poorly made, these gloves are barely adequate for the job.
      • Steel Shod Boots (2 Armor) : Heavy but they offer good protection.
      • Dagger (1-4 damage) : A fine blade
    • GreatOldOne :
      • Longsword (1-10 Damage) : this heavy and crude sword is preferred by none but the common thug.
      • Pipes (+15 Spellponts, 1% Magic resiistance) : Though not magical, these pipes serve to increase a minstrel's abilities.
      • Shield (6 Armor) : Sturdy and strong, this shield will stop many a strong swing, if used properly.
      • Leather Armor (9 Armor) : Made from the hide of some ill-fated creature. the protection it offers is hardly worth dealing with the stench.
      • Padded Cloak (2 Armor) : A fine cover that lends a small amount of protection from both foes and the elements.
      • Leather Boots (1 Armor) : Comfortable boots made of soft leather, they offer some protection against the elements.
      • Wine (x1) : A fine wine distilled in the sunken city of Waterford.
      • Dagger (1-4 damage) : A fine blade
Monty could use a Longsword like GreatOldOne. Azira could use a mace lke MHC, or a short sword (both 1-6 damage).
Only Monty, MHC and GreatOldOne can use shieds, and currently have one.
Monty and MHC could use plate(27 Armor) or Banded (21 Armor) armor instead of chain/leather. GreatOldOne and Azira could use Chain Armor instead of leather.
Jack and Arpad could use magic Gloves, which can give a lot of Armor, depending of their quality.
Arpad could use a Padded Armor (6 Armor), and a Staff (1-6 Damage).

I am not going to buy anything for now though, we should try to get some "freebies" first.

I noticed another bug in the Windows version of Realmz. When you try to see the list of whata character can equip you get this :

Using basilisk can be annoying, but the Windows version has some drawbacks too...

OK, the actual update now :

[IMG] We should try visiting other public places, what about this large building over there ?

On the way to that large building :

You come across a shocking scene. You spy a small group of town bullies attacking an old woman. it would seem they are after a dagger she is clutching to her chest. Do you wish to intervene on her behalf ?
    Rescue the woman Back away

[IMG] Look ! That dagger ! It looks magic ! I know when I see a magic, item, I have a spell to recognize them. And this one looks great !
[IMG] I was right, there ARE some good people in the streets who can help us find precious items !
[IMG] Funny, priest. Let's just rip off their innards and see what we can get from the old hag.

The bullies do not have the stomach to fight and flee at your approach. The old hag scowls at you , "Stay awayi You can't have it!" The dagger she is clutching is rather ornate and seems very likely to be very magical in nature. What do you do ?
Take the dagger Bid her goodday

[IMG] Haha, sorry, madam, but I think we need that more than you !

[IMG] *Pushes Monty away* We would be glad if you accepted to part with it. We are not going to force you, though.
(to Monty) Cretin ! if we let her go and follow her, she may lead us to more !

I won't let you decide on that one. Her dagger is very good, but you can still buy it later if you don't take it now. If you steal it, you will miss on a lot of very good items.

As you walk away, she yells, "Come and see me at my shop. I will give you a special price !" she quickly disappears around a corner before you realize that you do not even know where her shop is.

    And, not far away :

[IMG] OK, we may have to pay for it, but still , maybe she will have something good.
[IMG] She said she will give us a special price, we should probably be able to buy that dagger for almost nothing !

    [IMG] Or not....
[IMG] AT least she does have some good items for sale.
[IMG] Look at that Neckace of Revival ! With this, anyone can bring back the dead, no need to go to a temple !
and .. RING OF CREATURE SUMMON ! 6 Charges of Creature Summon 3 !
error in picture : the ring casts Creature Summon 3, and the Leather Armor +6 costs only 1900 GOLD
[IMG] No need to buy the ring, I will soon be able to cast Creature Summon myself.
