The Megali Idea

300 - Goodbye my love

"Goodbye my love, he did not say. There was no room for softness, not in the Balkans. No place for weakness. Only the hard may call themselves Greeks, Serbians or Romanians, only the hard can keep their independence in face of rising empires and seemingly incorrigible defeats... only the STRONG!!!"

Greece, poor Greece. Once the center of the mighty Byzantine Empire, internal strife slowly deteriorated such empire and grinded it into dust, with the greed of Catholic crusaders driving the last nail into Byzantium's coffin through the brutality and destruction of the 4th crusade, and then, for centuries Greece was wiped from the map, subjugated by the Ottoman Empire and their people oppressed. Not even a bold Serbia, that had expanded beyond the idealized Yugoslavia, managed to stop the Ottoman Empire, and like Greece they were subjugated.

But during the 19th century, the universal force of decline begin to hit the Ottoman Empire hard, and eventually, through much struggle and sacrifice and thanks to defeats of the Turks by the Russians, Greece was formed again, and by the 20th century, recovered most territories with a Greek majority.

And then, although they tried to avoid, pressure of the Entente forced them to join the Great War, where they, like Serbia and Romania, ended on the losing side, and all paid a high price for this. Greece lost many territories to Germany, Bulgaria, Austria and the Ottomans, Serbia was crushed, and Romania lost most of their territory to Hungary and Bulgaria. These three countries however didn't lose one thing: their strength and determination to reclaim their clay.

Greeks_in_Bulgaria.JPG

As Austria, the primary sponsor of Bulgaria, faced a major crisis in the empire, while Germany knew the storm of a new war with France was brewing, it was inevitable that Bulgaria would soon be on their own, and thus, Greece, Iron Guard Romania and Srbija attacked Bulgaria to reclaim what they lost. However, Bulgaria, even against the three, had a much larger army and outnumbered even their combined forces by the onset of the war. What would truly turn the tide was a polemic but necessary treaty that would grant to Metaxas the role of Supreme Commander of the Serbian Military. Joint Greek and Serbian operations were a shining part of the conflict while the Iron Guard Romania was slowly losing ground. The Greek courage, determination and strategic cunning which led many Bulgarian divisions to end pocketed turned the tide of a war that even without any foreign intervention, Bulgaria was bound to win save exceptional circumstances. The Greeks and Serbians commanded by Metaxas were the exceptional circumstances. It was a very difficult war, but eventually the tide was turned at the battle of Burgas, and then, Serbia, Greece and Romania emerged victorious. From their total conquest, all their lost territory to Bulgaria was retaken while Bulgaria was partitioned between the three, and now, once again Greece bordered their greatest enemy and by extension the greatest enemy of Serbia and Romania: the worst turk idiot.

Following the victory came a phase of major industrial and military expansion as Greece awaited the right time to seek a greater objective. But they were not the only ones: Romania already formally claimed all that Hungary took from them, while Serbia dreamed of freeing the Slavs under Austrian subjugation.

sGsb1.jpg

Together they formed an army strong enough to put up a fight, while Serbia was following a strategy of slowly building a significant air force. Yet their armies were both outnumbered and outclassed by the powers surrounding them, and the Greeks, focusing all of their development in land doctrine rather than infantry equipment, were particularly backwards. The industrial expansion would soon open up opportunities to close that gap, and the blueprints Romania provided would ensure it wouldn't take much time for it to happen.

zQ9rA.jpg

In the year of 1938, the storm of civil war remains over the New World, from which the red menace of the Combined Syndicates of Amerikwa is on the verge of total victory. Unfortunately, this will ripple through the entire world and is not the only case: in Spain the CNT-FAI is clearly winning the civil war as well. Serbian forces march towards the border with the kebab puppet of Albania. Another worrissome or perhaps opportune development is happening: the enlarged Papal State of the Italian Federation is at war with Austria, and, unable to break through the heavy border defenses between the two countries, they have instead crushed Austrian resistance over the Balkans, crushed Hungary and now are trying to surround Austria. However, their infamy is skyrocketing and rumors of a newfound fanaticism under the National-Populist pope that supposedly plans to establish a new Holy Roman Empire centered on Rome aren't helping with their belligerence and reputation either.

iTNue.jpg

Julius IV ironically has much in common with his southern totalist enemy Benito Mussolini. Both are inflamed demagogues, resorting to populism, use of the mass media of radio for propaganda and nationalistic fervor to further their agendas, and both are equally oppressive and totalitarian in different ways. The rumors are more than rumors: Pope Julius IV really reinstated the Inquisition nobody expected.

Due to their belligerence and extremist ideology, the Entente declared war on the Federation, which remains indifferent while they are on the eve of a total victory against all Austrian puppets and territories out of their heartland itself.

7Q0qq.jpg

The puppet state of Bosnia was always a powderkeg. For the Serbians it was both good and bad news. Good news: this would crush all separatist sentiments in Bosnia, for Bosnia is a clay of Serbia. Bad news: another country that will have to be defeated if Serbia wishes to achieve its dream, and restore the former glory it had during its peak at the early 17th century before their disastrous Holy War against the Ottoman Empire.

However, the Greeks had another thing in mind. They promised to their allies that once the time comes, they will provide full support to their struggles for their clays. Right now Greece was preparing to proclaim the Megali Idea, but first, they needed a critical new division: a HQ that would greatly improve supply efficiency and allow proper coordination of much larger forces than usual, hopefully allowing for a rapid, decisive breakthrough and conquest of Constantinople through a Mass Assault, if war becomes necessary, and it most likely will be.

w79A0.jpg

While Greece is preparing for the most certain war, the weakness of the worst turk begin to become more and more obvious. Despite having little chances of victory, the Kurds openly rise in rebellion, and the Arab nationalists are growing bolder every year since the first Arab Conference. There is no longer a Djinn to help the kebab. Now they are the Sick man of Europe, and if Greece succeeds, the Ottoman Empire will be a Dead man in Europe.

fZWYX.jpg

Zog I, emboldened by the collapse of the Turks, proclaim independence for Albania after the puppet king dies. There are some rumors that Serbian hitmen were involved in killing the king but they were never proved. This is a signal, but Greece needs a divisional HQ to coordinate the entire alliance before they can feel ready enough to launch the daring offensive against a still superior foe, even if they are the Sick man of Europe.

aiTAy.jpg

With the chaos of the Albanian independence under their new king Zog I, Greece seizes the opportunity to take back their clay in Northern Epirus, while Serbia equally does the same in Pristina. The Greek ambassador reported that he didn't manage to sleep because the Serbians were playing accordion all night during the celebrations.

w7OxT.jpg

While the Albanian independence was relatively successful due to the weak Ottoman naval might, Kurdistan was very short-lasted, but nevertheless, it showed the weakness of this empire for all. The Italian papal forces meanwhile advanced all the way through Hungary, yet strangely the haven't advanced one inch through the Austrian heartland, and are facing trouble with Croatioa.

BB7C5.jpg

So typical, to proclaim the Socialist Republic of Croatioa like that and begin a Red Terror and a pogrom against Serb minorities to fill its short-lived existence with infamy and more insults about how they are only fit to live in the zoo.

ti7UN.jpg

It is a mystery why Austria didn't offer something to end this war. Now they are in a very bad diplomatic situation even if they have managed to not lose any ground in their German heartland or in Venice.

rk0WH.jpg

Then, as if having one worst raghead neighbor wasn't enough, Pakistan decided to steal Serbian clay too. So much kebab for such a small alliance, but eventually, they will have to remove it.

DS7bt.jpg

Like the American Civil War, the Spanish Civil War is coming to an end: an end painted red in blood of innocents as the bolsheviks seize the country and implement their reign of terror. Perhaps the most self-contradictory of all the reds, CNT-FAI has long become very distant from the anarchism they once defended, and established themselves as another bolshevik politburo. The King of Greece is not even surprised and upon the news he simply declared:

"All bolsheviks, regardless of what they say, are tyrants by heart."

PKS32.jpg

Serbia, in support of Pan-Slavism and to increase the stability of their country, asked for Greece to return their part of Bulgaria so that Bulgaria can become an autonomous State under Serbia, and offered industrial subsidies to compensate the losses. Considering the offer carefully, Metaxas agreed, specially because this reestablished Bulgaria would be willing to sign a treaty that will give to Metaxas the role of Supreme Commander of their military as well, bolstering the odds in the coming war against the turk.

1UjLk.jpg

As Papal Italy was at war with Austria, making a German intervention unlikely, and specially now that most of their forces lie stranded and without supplies in Central Europe since Delhi secured their landings, Mussolini saw an opportunity he simply could not miss and once again the Bolshevik advances somewhere much closer to Greece than all other hives of reds.

mvnGX.jpg

The treaty was finally formalized. Now Greece had a substantial number of soldiers directly under their command for the coming conflict. Over two hundred thousand to be specific, but they knew the Ottomans most likely outnumbered them. Their only advantage was that the Ottomans considered Egypt and Arabia much more immediate threats and thus likely had most of their forces in the Sinai. But all it took was a strategic deployment by the Ottomans to cut off this temporary advantage, thus time will be of essence.

fniL5.jpg

A renewed Russian Empire under Wrangel was gradually expanding their borders, with obvious ambitions of restoring the original extent of the Empire before the Great War and the Revolution. Finland, having received territorial demands, believed the Russians were merely seeking a strategy of destroying them piecemeal, and thus, driven by a nationalistic fervor perhaps greater than that of the Serbians, Romanians and Greeks, outrightly refused. But without the winter to provide a major obstacle to the Russian ambitions, the victor of this imperialistic war was already obvious.

5SjoB.jpg

The divisional HQ will be ready by the next month, but before the almost certain war, a far great war has begun. The Commune of France demanded Alsace-Lorraine, and of course, the Germans refused. This is a war that the Balkans Alliance hoped that would drag for as long as possible and weaken both sides equally, because they despised both sides almost equally for what they represented or for what they did to their countries.

BKJrK.jpg

Everything is ready by August, as predicted, and now the time has come to openly proclaim the Megali Idea:

iBL17.jpg

Tonight we dine in hell

Hoping he could persuade Germany to support or at the very least ignore the issue, Metaxas went to Berlin to negotiate and consult the German Empire about his intentions. The Ottomans were already virtually useless as allies to the Germans at this point, and starting a conflict in the Balkans while the communists seek to march all the way to Berlin will hopefully convince them.

2QuDt.jpg

Then, in a stroke of genius, Metaxas, rather than just starting war on the Ottomans as the Germans declared they will not intervene in favor of anybody in this affair, decided to first seek a diplomatic solution. He knew this would almost certainly not work, but this would give greater legitimacy to the war. The Ottomans were demanded to have plebiscites in the contested areas where the peoples would vote on whether they would want to join the rising Greece or stay with the decaying Ottoman Empire.

mdEIn.jpg

The answer of the worst turk was as predicted as sqhipere, sqhipere.

Thus, Metaxas, looking upon the many soldiers under his command, said loudly:

"Greeks, Bulgarians and Serbians! Ready your breakfast and eat hearty, for tonight we dine kebab!"

k3UHs.jpg

The Turks never expected this. It was obvious from their lax defense of Adrianople, but even that lone division, if it held its ground for too long, would doom the defining strategy of this war: a rapid conquest of Constantinople, a seemingly long hopeless dream of many Greek and Orthodox since 1453.

To ensure a rapid victory a very important unit had a crucial role. While the Greeks contributed to the majority of land forces, the Serbians provided with a critical support unit: their Tactical Bomber Air Wing nicknamed "REMOVE KEBAB FROM ABOVE". This single air wing could prove itself critical in this war.

HvffO.jpg

And it was thank to the glorious Serbian Air Force that the battle of Adrianople was quickly won, and now the race has begun for Constantinople. Twenty-four divisions will eventually compose the full offensive to retake the city in the bloody urban warfare it shall ensue, almost five hundred years after the fall of the Byzantine Empire.

jCzaR.jpg

Unfortunately, while some countries struggled to secure the sovereignty of their peoples, others were subjugated, and the short-lasted independence of Finland was over. Russia cannot be trusted. Under their Pan-Slavism rhetoric lies an obvious desire: the desire of ruthlessly subjugating all other Slavs.

FYe57.jpg

Returns a King (To Constantinople)

Despite the fact most of the forces still haven't arrived, the Turks were at disarray, and thus the battle of Constantinople has begun. The initial forces were barely properly ordered despite the HQ support, due to a organizational mistake or slight of forgetting the highest ranked commander at this moment was a Lieutenant General, and a particularly promising one. Although eventually the allied forces would outnumber the turks, there was one detail counting in Turkish favor: The Turks had much better and more advanced equipment.

j6sTU.jpg

The organization problem was soon resolved, but this was a tough battle. The urban landscape always favor very strongly the defenders, but there was one strong support. The role of the Serbian tactical bombers in this battle was irreplaceable. Despite heavy AA fire and aware some of them would not live to fight another day, they continue disrupting supplies and communications of the turks every day, and did so with much valor for the AA coverage in Constantinople was far more numberful than their quantity of aircrafts. Many good Greeks, Serbians and Bulgarians died already. Hopefully their deaths will not be in vain and for the first time in more than four centuries, an Orthodox army will march triumphantly in Constantinople.

PqDp2.jpg

The leadership of an urban specialist tipped the battle in favor of the Balkans Allies, but it was still likely to go to both directions, as fresh turk reinforcements were arriving to Constantinople and the Turks could easily ruin the dreams of Greece in this battle and lead this conflict to complete stagnation, for their legions at Gallipoli and Constantinople outnumbered the allied army attacking the city. The Serbian bombers were taking heavy losses but they were ordered to carry on their mission to the last aircraft. This battle has lasted for many days already, and would, one way or another, enter in history for its significance.

IYeZs.jpg

Many reinforcements came to Constantinople, but the offensive was never forsaken, no matter how costly and traumatic the door-to-door, house-to-house fighting was. Slowly, the turks were losing their ground in the city, specially thanks to the severely understrength by now Serbian bomber wing. What a greattst countrey indeed, to have such brave pilots, piloting technologically obsolete bombers and still performing with such competence and courage their mission. Without them, the now perceivable possibility of victory would never exist.

QYOFK.jpg

2qk581y.jpg

After 15 days of one of the bloodiest urban battles in history, the Greeks have returned to Constantinople!
Besides the vast historical and poltical significance of this victory, Gallipoli is now ripe for the encirclement and dissolution of a massive Ottoman army of over a hundred thousand soldiers.

Many also thanked the victory for the pathetic performance of the Camel Corps. Only worst turk idiot would have such an idea as thinking camels make for good cavalry. Even the camel spits in the face and flag of the worst country.

Along with the Greek flags the Greek minority would soon rise to celebrate such a legendary and decisive victory after so much time under Ottoman subjugation, a few different flags stood out:

503px-Byzantine_imperial_flag%2C_14th_century.svg.png

These were signs that for some Greeks, this was just the beginning, and indeed it was.

GREEKS, BULGARIANS AND SERBIANS, READY YOUR BREAKFAST AND EAT HEARTY, FOR TONIGHT WE DINE IN GALLIPOLI!

Genetic studies disagree, Greeks have changed very little over the centuries. In fact, most Turks are actually of Romaioi ancestry too and barely have a trace of Altaic influence in them, as the majority of the Ottoman population were assimilated Greeks ruled over by a miniscule Turkic conqueror minority.

Genetic studies are a minefield, often supporting bogus nationalistic claims - but the one on the modern Turks is interesting. Do you have a ref?
And not only genes make a Empire, it is indeed a cultural thing - if I recall correctly, only in the XIII century some Byzantine scholars started using the term 'Hellenes' or 'Graekoi' instead of Rhomaioi, and even in the XV century 'Autokrator tov Rhomaiov' was used in the sad,sad loans done by the last Emperors.-
Modern Greece was not the 'mighty center' of the Empire, not in economical, military or cultural matters. Think of the Empire of Nicaea!
The Modern Greeks= Byzantines is a misconception, like saying that Modern Syrians are direct descendants of the Neoassyrian Empire (maybe genetically, but their culture?) or the hilarious attempts made by Albanians to prove their Pelasgian, Thracian, Dacian, Illyrian ancestry. Good old XIX-XX century nationalism.
The Albanians= Mongols is a only a joke? After you hear theories about the Iranian origin of the Croats, Poe's law is in full effect.

300: the Wolf

Lgd3m.jpg

It is said that an officer commented on how they'd have to cross the Bosphorus as Metaxas considered the possibility of using the disruption the Battle of Constantinople caused against the turks to immediately attack Izmit instead of going for Gallipoli, and he then replied:

2wom6bk.jpg
We will fight in the fresh

hagia-sophia.jpg

Of all the things that happened in Constantinople, none have been more marking and polemic as the way Hagia Sophia was "remodelled" thanks to the uncontrolled fervor of the soldiers, specially the Serbian ones. Playing an unique song, they proceeded to dynamite all the minarets and destroy all Islamic changes to the historical monument so that it could once again "become Orthodox". The not particularly pleased muslim clergy didn't live long enough to complain as the SERBIA removed all the kebab from the premises of Hagia Sophia. Restoring its original shape however would require something finer than the crudeness of Serbian forces unleashing their anger on the worst turk idiot "vandalism against historical Orthodox churches". And that was only the beginning.

The Greeks had another vendetta, although the destruction and desecration of mosques was implicitly supported by all. The Islam is the enemy and it must be crushed like a skull of pig! Although it will take many generations to wipe such taint, it will happen. The Greeks however were more interested in punishing those responsible for the typical turk animal savagery. Which means every Turk involved in the government that didn't manage to flee. A long "Trial of the Ottoman Crimes against Humanity" would soon be set, fittingly, in Constantinople, and much kebab will be removed. But soon the soldiers had to get their act together because they were about to continue the crushing of the Ottoman oppressor. Let the war criminals who massacred so many innocent Greeks be hanged for their crimes after the complete destruction of the Ottoman Empire.

ldJQi.jpg

At first it seemed a clear victory, but the longer it took the greater the cost, for the enemies were retreating while the two outnumbered turk divisions held their ground. Failure is not an option for a rapid conquest of the Ottomans.

x2yv5.jpg

In desperation, the surrounded Ottoman forces at Gallipoli tried to break through. The two battles would define the war as much as the battle for Constantinople did.

pYj4s.jpg

Adrianople was secured, and now the Greek army stands on the eve of victory at Izmit, the defenders almost completely driven into retreat. But time is running out.

EDFxu.jpg

VICTORY! However, they lack divisions rapid enough to be sure they could outrun the retreating Ottoman forces, thus this is not over yet.

jJ4rL.jpg

Another desperate offensive is launched against Adrianople, as the Ottomans are threatened by a far more devastating defeat than the Battle of Constantinople. The outnumbered divisions defend themselves bravely.

BtvEv.jpg

Too late, the first of the retreating forces arrived, but there is still time and they are severely disorganized. The Serbian air force continues to perform impressively in battle.

dF8eV.jpg

And as the advantage of the Balkan Entente in the battle was lowered, doubts began to emerge, but because of how much time succeeding in this battle would save, for the war would last much less if this ended as a victory, they persisted.

BVaF3.jpg

Adrianople was once again secure, but the battle of Izmit would continue to demonstrated that "fighting in the fresh" is not as simple as Metaxas' famous paraphrase suggested.

cPJNh.jpg

The problem of losing this battle was not just having to wait for the preparations of another battle. The problem is that with Izmit fortified, the only other means of crossing into Asia Minor would be a risky amphibious operation, which would take much longer to become viable.

oQ1p1.jpg

Then, when victory seemed to be about to happen, the Greeks had an event they would call "The Minor Betrayal". The Serbian and Bulgarian forces unilaterally decided to retreat from the offensive, leaving the Greeks in a very precarious situation. Many suspected this was meddling from the Serbians who wanted their clay back instead of fighting immediately for the Greek goals, but for the sake of not threatening the Balkan Alliance, Greece didn't protest other than releasing a very scathing statement on the lack of bravery of Bulgarians and Serbians compared to Greeks, which went further to compare the Greek Army with SPARTA and the other armies with the hedonistic and decadent sybaris.

vVN7H.jpg

But one Serbian force never retreated from duty. The Serbian bomber wing sacrifice however could end in nothing thanks to the cowardice of their army, but they will never be forgotten.

:salute:

YMqIj.jpg

Yet ultimately, due to the abandonment of the offensive by the others, the offensive was doomed, and now would come a long way towards a precariously poor navy in doctrines that restricted Greece from conducting amphibious operations. All left to do was to finish the job in Gallipoli and mourn the fallen in this lost battle, while preparations were being made for a risky bid through an amphibious invasion of Anatolia..

Ottomans are so annoying. And what's up with your allies always leaving you with your ass exposed. Good work with what you got.

It's a quirk of assuming military control, although military control is the only way to ensure your allies will make a difference. When you attack en masse and hope the AI will join the offensive, they never do, and when they do it is at the point their help no longer matters anyway.

===============

Come and get them

After the unsuccessful battle of Izmit, the attentions of the Balkan Alliance turned to Gallipoli, and an officer then commented to Metaxas:

"Our enemies look thirsty, why don't we wait for their supply lines to collapse and for them to starve?"

2wom6bk.jpg
Give them water!

Eajbm.jpg

The surrounded Turk army in Gallipoli attempts another desperate break, but their fate is sealed, and the defeat at Izmit will be soon forgotten as a new victory is in the making. The valor of the Greek and the rage of the Serbian will seal their fate.

TTEBw.jpg

Meanwhile, in preparation to the eventually necessary amphibious operation, the small Greek Navy is ordered to rebase in the north and try to advance as sneakily as possible through the seas, for although it is possible much of the Ottoman fleet is stranded in the Bosphorus, one can never be sure.

VXXAB.jpg

The fleet meets minor resistance only, as an exchange of fire takes a while until the Ottoman flotilla realize the size of the force they are facing.

toDXk.jpg

And retreats like cowards. Reinforcements are on the way to Adrianople to put an end to these attacks.

AvuXu.jpg

And now, it's only a matter of time before the battle of Gallipoli can commence.

1Sb2I.jpg

gallipoli.jpg

The enemy is outnumbered and surrounded, and despite it, there is absolutely no doubt on how difficult this battle will be, for Metaxas believed there was no time to be lost, and despite the poor organization of the Greek forces as they never gave up Izmit, he didn't wait. It is about time to "give them water" by tossing them off the seaside cliffs.

tVTe3.jpg

Meanwhile, more news about Europe. The fascist Pope met his demise, Rome now firmly in the hands of the communist demagogue Benito Mussolini and the Italian conquest of the Balkans split between the worst pakishit and the worst kraut. The greater war between the French commies and Germany, after the fall of Belgium, became a reenactment of the bloody trench warfare of the Great War, with neither side achieving any decisive victory and the front lines stagnated for months.

yWIwO.jpg

It was long, it was bloody, but victory ensued. Gallipoli is Greek again!

Zl4w2.jpg

The conquest of Belgium by the French was formalized, but their front continued mostly static. And so would the Greek-Ottoman war front until they researched the minimum necessary to properly conduct amphibious operations. This could be risky, for the longer the war took, the more soldiers the Ottomans could draft, and now that the kebab has been removed from the premises of Europe, it is perhaps time to negotiate.

V8eHZ.jpg

Thus the Greeks send the demands for all their territorial claims to be conceded. It was both as a means of hoping it would work, which is unlikely, and most importantly, as a means of legitimizing the continuation of this war in the eyes of the people as an inevitability.

hppaF.jpg

Predictably, the worst turk idiot refused the chance for their country to not be completely crushed like a skull of pig by giving Greece back their clay.

nN7F8.jpg

There is a long way ahead of research and improvement of the doctrinally backwards Greek Navy for this to happen, however, and thus the war became, for a while, a phony war, other than the display of aerial supremacy of Serbian fighters proudly flying over Ottoman airspace and crushing their meek air force in near every battle.

Tclss.jpg

Meanwhile, in what could have spelled the doom of the Ottoman Empire is now dangerously a chance for the worst turk to grow strong, for the Egyptian durka durka is a coward farm animal and thus refused to help Hashemite Arabia.

bd4xr.jpg

Another try for Izmit happened, but once again,

ayMmE.jpg

All but the Greek pussied out, and thus the offensive was quickly abandoned. It is clear now there is no other means of continuing this war than through a risky amphibious landing.

6OaR1.jpg

Military doctrines of the Greek Army continue to evolve, but the most important research at this moment is the research that will allow Greece to conduct amphibious assaults. A massive optimization of their naval logistics to ensure massive amounts of supplies for supporting entire divisions shipped through the seas will be provided.

f71Dn.jpg

More news on the Red Threat: the Bolsheviks have made major progress in India and are now marching to crush the pakishit. This is great news for Serbia, because if they win the war, this means that removing kebab from the premises and taking back much of their clay in the Balkans will be trivial, and the Entente is just a powerless remnant at this point.

2Wztf.jpg

Bad news, the worst turk defeated the ragheads of Hashemite Arabia. No surprise because the farm animal is the exact opposite of a Spartan: too dumb and savage to fight properly a war. Once the Ottomans breakdown, they can live in the zoo hahahaha.

YjJO5.jpg

Greece even lacks the minimum necessary to project power through amphibious operations. They are not ready yet. But the stupid turk is completely oblivious to the possibility, according to the last recon they left most of their beachheads unprotected, so the greatest challenge will be for the first two divisions to hold their ground long enough for the slowly coming reinforcements, but that is deemed completely possible. After all the Spartans held a much greater army with a much smaller force than two divisions.

8cfnj.jpg

The war between krauts and commies gains a new front. Will Mussolini army manage to hold their ground, or will they prove themselves an ally the Commune of France would be better without?

h7ybS.jpg

And more communists start wars in America, after the supremacy of the Combined Syndicates of Kwanzania. The Brazilian bolsheviks possess radicals dreaming of uniting the entire South America by strength of arms or diplomacy, proclaiming a "greater goal" they call Libertadores.

CAtT8.jpg

In other news, while the wait for research continues, the Greek army is being throughly modernized. Their old bolt action rifles are gradually being replaced by a much larger quantity of submachineguns as the standard infantry gun and better communications and equipment are being issued. These improvements will greatly enhance their odds in the coming battles against the Turks.

Meanwhile the worst Turk turned Hashemite Arabia in a kebab licking puppet.

The fascist Poland declares war against the commies, but they are isolated and unaligned with the Krauts, and most certainly they don't have military access to krautland, which means their declaration will be empty unless the war reaches a point where it will doom their nation.

Italy failed in more than one way. Austria is rapidly breaking through their territory and getting dangerously close to Rome. They aren't Spartans, no.

These developments now make an amphibious landing over an unoccupied territory possible, but any amphibious combat suicidal. Thus it is decided to continue improving this line of research until Greece can safely launch an amphibious assault with up to three divisions at once.

Thus the time has come to proceed with the war against the worst turk. There is still much clay to be taken for Greece in Asia Minor. And recon shows the stupid, stupid turk! They left the entire region adjacent to Izmit undefended. Metaxas knew what had to be done and he would personally lead the first Orthodox army to reach Asia Minor triumphantly since the fall of Constantinople.

May the spirit of Spartans be STRONG among them, for they are going to need it.

When someone asked Metaxas if he ever feared the outcome of the battle of Bursa because of their forces being outnumbered, he answered:

: They don't outnumber our bullets.

Brave Serbian pilots did their best to disrupt the Ottoman offensive, no matter how many of them wouldn't return, while the small Greek fleet operated day and night to bring in more reinforcements.

Hoping they could delay the Greek navy long enough for the Ottomans to crush the small Greek force that established a beachhead in Bursa, the minor part of the turk Navy not stuck in the strait attacked the larger fleet.

But of course, the battle was so short lasted this won't matter. Serbia and Greece together are STRONG³

More foreign news: Austria gained more ground over Italy, but in doing so, they have dangerously overstretched their front and they still failed to conquer Rome or Naples. It remains to be seen who will be the victor in this front. But no matter who wins, Greece and Serbia loses.

The Ottomans carefully surround Bursa, but if this battle is won, breaking through the heart of the Empire past Constantinople will be almost certain.

VICTORY! Now the Greek forces rush to reach Zonguldak, hoping they could encircle a major part of their enemy forces in Izmit.

While the brave Serbian bomber pilots are once again called, this time to destroy the infrastructure of Izmit, delaying the desperate advance of turks to prevent this coming encirclement.

Then, unfortunately, it proved insufficient. But many other strategic opportunities lie ahead now that, after many centuries, Greeks have once again broken through Asia Minor as they prepare themselves to finish the Ottoman Empire for once and all.

The enemy didn't give up. They launched an all-out attack to destroy the beachhead while more reinforcements were arriving slowly.

Field Marshall Papagos, from the experience in this battle, mastered the landscape of hills, which would greatly help Greece in the coming battles as much of Turkey is made of them. Their desperation was visible, and they didn't stop the offensive at all.

The Ottoman forces are in disarray after their failed attack, their organization terrible. They have exposed themselves to a devastating counter-offensive, and now it is the time, at last.
