    Hey guys!
As you can see, this is my first post, so yes, instead of making some lame topic or reply, I decided to start with LP.

I was thinking about Realms of Arkania LP, but then JA came to mind and because I know it better, there is a lesser chance that it will be a total failure.

Now to make it little more interesting, I'd like you guys to make suggestions on mercs, the rules are simple:
    1) I can pick ONLY from mercs that you'll suggest
    2) It's more likely that I'll hire mercs with more picks, but not 100%.

I'll probably start with 3-4 mercs, so keep that in mind (and don't name me half of AIM). If I decide to hire a new one during LP, i'll ask you about that again.
I'll *try* to make the team at least a little balanced, that means at least 1 doc and 1 tech guy from the start, but as I said, only from your suggestions, so if the best medic you'll suggest will be Rebaun, i'll pick him (and i know you are able to do that).

If someone dies, he's dead (and of course, you'll be choosing his/her replacement), i'm still not convinced about if i won't reload at all though, that will depend on how well the playthrough is going to be.

So let's get started (low res is just for intro):

Ivan for shooter, Fidel for explosives, Reuben for psycho, Tex for meatshield, Speck for tech and ... can't remember who was a good medic in the beginning?

Oh yes and do not reload if your native guide dies. In fact, sending him disarming mines might be a good idea.

Why is Brenda not wearing any pants? It looks like her father is offering her up for sex as part of the negotiations with the player character. Or perhaps there was something incestuous going on before this conversation happened?

    So here we go

First, I have shitloads of screenshots (about 200 from day 1, but that would be probably maximum), i'll sort it by days and i know, it'll be VERY long and image heavy LP... still, tell me if it's way too many screenshots or it's fine. I won't be 'commentating' much. there will be sort of summary at the end of each sector and i'll wait for some feedback.

I hired only Ivan and Fidel. I was srsly thinking about Reuban, for fun, however since he hates Ivan and vice versa, Ivan would leave in the end of the day and that would be it.

If you are curious what Reuban says if you hire him with Ivan in team...

Also, the room in the building is locked, so i might return there when i hire some decent mech. I still had some time but wasn't quite sure if enough to defeat another sector. After that it was easier, but the last guy was behind locked door when only few turns were remaining. With some luck again, Ivan shot the lock so a close one there. We found some .357 ammo but don't have operational gun right now. Mercs practiced some long range shooting and door opening.

This day was excellent. nuff said.

Seems like time to hire some field lock-picker, preferably one that can shoot so I'm waiting for your ideas. I'm still not sure if I need a full time repairer, but you can throw some here too and I'll think about it.

yea, but i don't think the best way is to buy 8 lvl 1-2 mercs at the start, i don't have money for decent mercs and most of the cheap ones are useless in a long term

if the day ends and your mercs are in enemy territory, the game tells you that they are retreating and usually get badly wounded

Brenda is wearing high-cut daisy dukes if I remember her correctly.

When time runs out, mercs automatically head back to base - possibly getting hurt in the process.

You do need a full-time repair guy and Speck is awesome for just that job. Especially if you keep up the pace since you'll come across lot of stuff.

Also, you could use the steel pipe to extend the Beretta, then equip it with a silencer and turn Ivan into a lethal, silent killing machine. Or you can just save them for the long guns later in game.

Hamous will make his entrance on Day 2, right? And boy, you took the ballsy route on that last map - I usually came from the south since that way you don't have to expose yourself on the bridges, through you do have to go through the hedges in the middle which can be harrowing.

Oh and do remember that a conquered sector requires solid land connection to your base - if there isn't one you can't assign natives there and will lose it. I found that out by the hard way after surprising enemy through an amphibious assault.

You probably already knew all this but wanted to show my :smug:

there's no point putting it on broken beretta (not counting that Fidel nor Ivan don't have mech enough to do it)

Actually, Hamous is 2nd "native" afaik (you'll get him if you lose the first one).

    ur right ;P

anyway, i'll try to finish and upload day 2 today, so stay tuned.

So you went for the more serious route and no teamkilling, alright.

Hire Fox as a medic, you can also train her to be a decent marksman or tomboy since she has awesome dexterity.
If you want a dedicated handyman get Sparky or Speck.
Get Ice as another shooter and/or Vinnie as mediocre mech/shooter.
Iirc the only guy who can open all locks in the game is Mike, not even Magic can open all of them (unless he becomes lvl8 or so I guess but he will be way too expensive at that point). Mike is actually comparably cheap considering his experience level and skills. Other than that there are still explosives and the crowbar. Ivan should be strong enough for most chests/doors.

Btw Hamous sucks donkeydick as well, if you get him killed or fire him after a day or two (I think he has to be on the rooster for at least a day or so) you will get the last native who is a really good repairman.

just a quick reply before i start updating LP

yep, i admit i played JA long time ago, and i wanted LP with some lulz, but it turned out that if i actually want finish the LP (on hard without being quickload whore), it won't be that easy. And it's much more challenging and fun anyway.

i read this right after i fnished day 2 and we have pretty much the thoughts, as you will see.

    Well, here is the update.

Before I start, I decided to make few improvements (i hope) in this LP. That is, I'll be commentating much more, to make it little moar friendly for ppl who aren't that familiar with JA, including sort of insights of my decisions (I hope I won't be captain obvious much). I'll also add more map overviews and try to avoid unimportant/uninteresting screens.

    Day 2

Even if day 1 went very well, i definitely needed moar mercs. Still, i wanted to avoid mass recruiting low lvl mercs so plan was to hire only a repairer and a combat medic ( at this point, i can live without picking locks and full time healer isn't needed, either).

As a medic, I picked Fox.
    captain obvious insight:
reasons why i picked her are pretty simple (apart from tits), with mediocre marksmanship, decent physical stats/wisdom and 500 bucks salary she is far the cheapest medic with a bit combat abilities as a bonus.

Speck as a repairer was much easier choice (only merc worth considering is Sparky, 100$ cheaper with lower mech and much lower wisdom.)

when done with recruiting, it was time for some rest...

    here goes Jack's briefing
    [IMG]
    undrinkable water?

after giving Speck our broken guns (and some grenades in case he manages to repair both of them)...

and hiring tappers and guards, we were ready to go.

after disarming some bomb triggers (would blow bridges) in starting sector

we went north. to sector 29
    [IMG]
beginning was pretty smooth with fox even getting her first knife kill

separating mercs with Fox and Fidel going north and Ivan east to check that tree area...

ending up with everyone encountering enemy.

Fox and Fidel took them out without bigger problems

while Ivan had to chase him on the other side of that stream

meanwhile, Fidel dispatched 2 last enemies.

during looting, Fidel used his knowledge of explosives again and it was time to travel east, to sector 30.

Where was quite a shootout right from the start

Next guy was accurate so Fox used her first opportunity to show her skillz

this guy didn't stand a chance

    Fox getting another one

As you can see, the nade actually failed to blow after the guy threw it but it set off in my turn... Luckily, Fidel wasn't that close.

    ... and Ivan took revenge.

While I let Fidel regain some stamina, Fox and Ivan went to clean that house...

    Nice try.

    Bastard.

You don't want to mess with 100 dex merc in close combat.

Definitely useful stuff and some work for Speck tomorrow. Until this point, it was rather easy... And I am saying "until this point" for a reason.

Moving guards to position and, unaware what will start later, going north. Sector 20.

After first guy, some more appeared

Ivan and Fidel got slightly wounded in crossfire.

Both of those enemies started running...

Fidel killed the guy to the east...

While Fox hunted down the other one.

In the meantime, enemy tried to attack our sector but failed miserably.

However, two more guys showed up. Not only I wasn't expecting more of them, but I was seriously running low on ammo (only Fidel had enough but he was quite far away. Until now, I must admit that the game was rather easy but from now on , I was getting sort of feeling that the game is making fun of me, as you will see...

Yep, another one... and Fox has 5 bullets. I want to accent 'Fox' here, because she really can't shoot that good (I'm gentle because she has tits, she sucks hard at shooting to be honest). On top of that, it's hard as hell even for Ivan with ~90 marksmanship to hit through all those bushes and trees.

as you can see, I sent Fox and Ivan back, because I didn't want to get stuck (because it costs moar to move in that swampy terrain) and be outgunned there. You may think that with Ivan it's problem solved, but he is low on stamina, and as seen on previous screen, he actually has just 7 bullets, so it's far from win.

Fidel finally arrived to help (with loads of ammo for his .45... only for it, unfortunately), and even if i we have here our favourite line from Fidel, I seriously needed him one square on the right because he was too exposed here.

Fox killing that guy, 2 shots left. But then another guy appeared and guess what happened...

YEAH. No kidding, seriously. I don't know if you can imagine how I felt when that happened, so let me sum this up:
With 2 guns without ammo, the 3rd gun JAMMED.
    Worst. Moment. Ever.

For some reason, that guy went few steps back, exposing himself to Fox. What was I saying about her? Oh, nevermind... *sigh*

At least Fidel finished the job. As you could noticed, I gave Fidel's jammed gun to Ivan. That is because Fidel has those 2 nades, so he can still 'defend' himself and because Ivan is still a slightly better marksman, after all.

This may look weird, but I was actually trying to unjam the gun (successfully).

And right after that, Ivan took out another one.

Well this is pretty self-explanatory, remember what I said about the grenades?...

The guy on the left actually started fleeing.

Well, it paid off that I sent there those guards.

This was the fleeing guy, he was also the last one. Fox bandaged everyone and I went to loot the crates, thinking it is finally over.

    WRONG.
What can I say... Anyway, they could get here either from north or west. I took Ivan to check the north side because it was just few steps and it was clear (so I didnt take any screenshots). Naturally, that meant they came from west. But suddenly, whe Ivan turned around, the game came with yet another... joke? Rly , I'm out of words here.

Yup, like if mercs weren't tired enough, the game decided to retake the sector. And to make it sure, it called reinforcements from north too.

As I said, because I was expecting them from north, i only sent Fox to the south to scout there. At least, the mercs had enough time to replenish their stamina.

Still, Ivan and Fidel are DAT awesome.

Fox managed to get a kill too. However, I didn't mention before that I found there 2 boxes of ammo after the 'takeover', so a loaded each gun. As you can see, After one guy, Fox is minus 4 rounds...

... And the 2 remaining weren't enough to take this one.

Well, for some reason, the 'critical' guy from previous screen just walked next to Fox... And another enemies incoming.

Dunno what were they thinking. Fidel knocked them off with stun grenade he picked up earlier...

While Ivan took the shooting part.

And here's somewhat brave finish, On the first screen Fox took ammo from the ground and went to stab the bald guy, Fidel shot few times the blond guy who started fleeing. The kevlar saved Fox from the red-haired guy and Ivan took him out. Finally, Fox hunted down the blond guy.

This day was a hard one, particulary this sector, but the spectra vest is a big thing.

I know, no need to remind me what I said about her salary (but it's still very cheap)

    Just if you are interested...

Summary: I am very satisfied with 3 sectors today, because that battle was really a tough one. I'm glad that I hired Fox, she was definitely helpful and it's good that she improved her marksmanship a bit.

Good work, you're recovering lots of sectors per day... Is there any time limit in the game? Never finished it.

As you can see, there is sort of 'rating' at the end of the day. If you have poor rating (= doing nothing, getting mercs killed etc.) mercs (and guards) will ask for higher salary and will start leaving.
