Always prudent to take it slow. You're on normal difficulty yes?

If so, then lava pits should be quite doable, as long as you take it slowly.

update 32: Hell lvl 6, RNG blows a fuse

Hey what's this ticking noise? Oh fuck, our feet must have spawned right on a nuclear device and mistakenly activated the countdown.

So this level has a 8 minute limit, that's nice. We are greeted with revenant from the start too, also nice.

The revenant never misses, so down goes our hp, but neither does our shotgun.

Level up! I just take ironman for the +10 hp, we could use an insurance package.

As we make our way, I spot some great items, rockets, armor shards, more shells, but also a revenant.

With over 300 shells, a superglobe and an armor shard I kind of feel emboldened, these revenants are nothing but exp trophies.

Hmm, a Megapshere, it charges it all in one shot!

Another reason for our lack of concern is the explosion timer.

For some reason I go straight for the megasphere here, kinda dumb. We've pressed for time, we can't go back.

What a perfect level, open and yet full of cover for our shotgun. None of this new age crap, we're a shotty guy and that's what we're good at.

Yikes, an arch-vile, we are in hell now for sure.

Nothing to see here.

Yeah, we're not going back for the blue sphere.

This one will be harder.

Or not. Melee keeps showing how useful it is, it's not a one dimensional fighting style.

In the rush forward, I completely forget about the berserk pack, a shame.

Oh good, the stairs are here. We won't die a horrible death.

Holy shit, another supercharge globe but more importantly a medpack!

We'll keep the globe for later, or will we?

This is because this level doesn't stop showering us with goodies. The RNG is kinda spazzing out here.

Still, we are reminded that choices and consequences will have to be considered for when to take the goodies because time is rapidly winding down. I don't want to leave the level with enemies.

We kill a dude and in fact I don't notice the level is cleared.

The level has mod packs too. Unfortunately we can't make a killer plasma so I just upgrade the shotgun further.

Oh fuck, just 3 minutes left.

Just about this time I realize the level is cleared, let's get that health globe.

And we test our lava boots, they work perfectly.

The Lava Pits are next, and they could be very difficult. But what a weird level this was.

Final Grade: A-
I think we may do this.

update 33: Hell lvl 6, The last hurrah

I can't believe how close we are to the end. Are there only 2 more levels before the final boss?

The plan is to use the shotgun.

For once we have a lot of ammo and we'll just fire from afar at anything until it dies.

Lava boots make this so smooth, it's like the lava didn't exist.

One of the reasons I am a bit anxious with this level is because it's only the second time I've ever done it. The first time I remember mancubus and not much else.

With only cacodemons, I'm deciding to switch to the nuclear plasma. The shotgun uses a bit too much ammo.

Ah, the real enemies come. We have some hell knights on this first platform.

We can just dodge his projectiles.

So far so good, the enemies are easy.

The hits keep coming... our dodge isn't perfect enough. I try the rocket launcher of course, except it blows up the loot.

Back to the plasma. It's slow and not ideal vs hell knights. We keep getting hit, too much for my liking.

Alright, that's it. We're done with the plasma. Our dodge is too slow, even if we dodge, the hell knight can get a new shot off before we fire.

Our margin for error is minuscule, so even if the shotgun uses too much ammo, it keeps us perfectly safe.

We're talking about 10+ shots per kill.

The trick is all about blind firing knowing you can hear their screams of pain.

I am learning that the range has to be optimal however. If you're too far out, the shotgun damage drops even further for pitiful effect. This cacodemon must have already received 5 shots, at extreme range.

After this run, I'm doing an Angel of Shotgunnery.

We should be having a lot of success.

But when I go near some hell knight presents himself with perfect health!

We kill more, surely the coast must be clear.

The fucker is still there. How many monsters do they have anyway.

I must have emptied close to 30 shells in this area, you know what, I'm going in, no more blind firing.

Almost dead, now I'm going in close range.

Uh, our health is going down, why isn't he dying?

Oh I see, he was wearing a special armor. Fooled again by hell knights/barons with armor. A shame we had to sacrifice our perfect shotgun run.

That's nice, useless, but nice.

Our final enemy is a lava elemental, but we have a missile launcher ready for him.

Gothic armor stats. It's a good backup for the spider mastermind. Also, we were never in any danger of running out shotgun shells, sigh.

The missile launcher while it pushes the lava elemental back does very little damage. It's not optimal but we'll use the shotgun.

He's kind of fast, we can't blind fire him.

Let's go melee. In fact...

We'll try to attract him to the metal platform. I don't know if his item drops in the lava and I don't want to find out.

He takes the bite and follows me.

He goes down pretty easily, like all tough bosses. As for the shiny sphere he leaves behind, we shall guard it jealously.

We come out of the lava pits with 78% life and 84% armor. I can smell the champagne and confetti, we are so close!

Final Grade: B-

The orb he drops will survive being dropped into lava as well, you don't really need to lure him to a platform. In fact, that can be a dangerous tactic, as his ranged attack spawns more lava (of no consequence if you've got 100 fire resist, but if you don't, it can really bite you in the ass, not to mention spoil your nice loot).

Our second unique since the Butcher's Cleaver. Kinda late though.

It must be the first time I ever found this armor, but it's quite nice. Even has plasma resistance.

Ok, so what now? As I very carefully navigate all the barrels, I get the feeling this map will be fun.

We've had a really crazy run. All mancubus levels, an impossible Mortuary, huge arachnotron rape, the last level with 2 megaspheres, 2 superglobes and an atomic bomb.

And this level promises to be the same kind of crazy. Wait, I see a door opened.

Oh wow, an arch-vile, around all these barrels. Better be extra careful.

Let's introduce this arch-vile to the wonders of blind firing.

:rambomode: Nothing shall survive! We won't stop firing.

'MERICA, FUCK YEAH.

Looks like all that collateral damage wasn't enough.

Well he's dead now.

So getting back to our story. We've had some crazy floors so far.

When I think of hell, I think of this type of level. Tight corridors, lots of barrels, lots of lava and dangerous enemies. This is what makes hell... hell, essentially.

But the interesting part is that so far this is our only "true hell" level. Every other so far had a warehouse look, or was wide open, they looked more like early levels than hell levels and I was happy for that.

Ok maybe I should stop blind firing like a madman. I might be destroying items and even getting surrounded by acid.

Of course finally when we have a true hell level, we also have the lava boots, so its difficulty becomes an asset to us. So fitting.

Trying to play it safe here because I don't want to pop my head in front of a lava barrel. And I think I saw something.

Yeowzers. Another arch-vile, hmm what to do?

I move away from the explosion. Smart me because looking at this pic now I would've gone for the shotgun.

Same position again, surely we will run away.

Nope, the old me goes for the shotgun. I like how old me and present me think.

The arch-vile really doesn't die as soon as I wanted and... I get careless.

I try to kill him instead of doing another successful dodge. Protip: against arch-viles, only fire resistance, not armor ratings, will help you.

The fucker in two hits removed 18% out of our armor.

Hey another small medpack! I should stop blind firing now.

Another protip! Arch-viles are quite bad vs shotguns at long range. They need visual range and they need you to stand still.

Given that we now have three medpacks, I take finesse with our final level up. The 15% speed should help vs the quicker bosses.

I should've done it earlier, but we make use of the lava armor. We have 150% fire resistance.

An arch-vile. It's official, this is an arch-vile map. So weird and yet so fitting.

He hits us, for 2% hp and 0% armor, niiice. A farcry from the 10% hp hits.

How did he not die?

Rambo mode again.

At this stage we're just toying with them.

It's over, it's all over.

I feel like it's a high school graduation, overly dramatic and entirely inconsequential.

Whoa, the medpacks just keep on coming. We just need to fit them all in our inventory.

Because summer school is next. Wait, bad analogy.

The final boss is next, and he will play by our rules.

Final Grade: B+
An anticlimactic level mostly, bu only because we're awesome.

Here we are, at long last we have reached our last update. What a long journey it's been.

Well we are going to face the secret boss for the first time. I've read the technique, it's cute.

All we have to do is to drop a nuclear bomb and then go invulnerable. A shame the secret boss is accessible so easy because it means we won't fight the Spider Mastermind.

Four seconds, I might want to kick in invulnerability now?

I wanted to see the Spider Mastermind face to face, alas she was too far. What a quick way to win.

We are back...

I really don't know what awaits us.

Rambo mode, blind firing. Wait a minute...

The map is cleared, ahem.

Now we have really reached the final level. Final level! Layout disappoints.

Before we blind fire, let us look at these pretty blood spatters.

Rambo mode on again, blind firing. No one's getting hit though.

Instead we ready the missile launcher.

Snap, it's John Carmack, complete in 90s leather fashion.

Why not take this opportunity to show the final player card. May the best rocket launcher-wielder win.

First rocket volleys are launched. Predictably it does no damage. And John Carmack can teleport.

He's so close let's just go melee, there's no turning back.

Whoa, he can summon lost souls. What a good move to get the Butcher's Cleaver.

Funny, the Longinus Spear didn't do that much damage. We may have a real foe on our hands.

Ah, there we go. The hit connected and he's down to 50% hp.

Shit, he can summon more than just lost souls.

I could use the Butcher's Cleaver given it has instant kill, or test the Longinus Spear. Not even this spear can 1 shot the hell knights, that's bad.

There's not a lot of options. I settle for a BFG at point blank range.

We got this in the bag, John Carmack, I will make you my bitch.

I can feel it...

Shit. Fuck. We have two options, a suicidal stab on which the whole LP is going to rest or a phase out of here.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH. It's all ovah!

The glorious LP has finally come to an end.

Almost 6 hours of playtime, I guess there's no awards for that.

Ty. Actually yeah I've been using Steam to host the pics since it has an integrated screen capture and easy hosting, but Steam Cloud is so horrible. Some days it would just decide it was going to be down, others it wouldn't remember delete or selection commands I'd give, every screen upload or vision is around 10 seconds of waiting, and with over 1000 screenshots in total in this LP, the rage mounted. I spent 6 hours in the game and probably 30 writing up the LP. I'm taking my retirement, permanently.

With that said, any of you still playing Doom RL? I'm on a binge right now and I've come so close in both Angel of Masochism and Angel of Overconfidence, failing both.
