Beguile pots are unlimited, but +charisma is lest needed stat. I need +intuition pots greatly thx for mistake at start*

About "deadline", i got at start of year 1035. Kinda worried, since i have time to finish game, but i want explore some dungeons. Anyone knows what happens when deadline happens? And when exactly?

You cant mend broken limbs. And i am not sure what for "Splint" spell is. It is supposed to mend broken bones. Need some testing, but it didnt help to mend limbs for my party.

    * making your (and mine, i followed your party setup) illusionist - gnome was bad idea, gnomes have low Intuition, aka low amount of spells. Each + Intuition is +spell in list. And its very hard to get 2000 exp for each spell with illusionist.

p.s. How do you manualy target enemy areas (head, body, etc) ?

This I don't know, I also want to do all the dungeons

You have 2 conditions, injured with a number next to it and broken.

splint will mend broken bones, but it doesn't healed injured limbs and bruised ribs. I seem to remember that there was a way to do that but I can't find it

My illusionist is a female elf not a gnome. Females have a bonus to intuition and elves have the highest value. My priest is the gnome.
It takes a 1000XP to raise statistics until you reach your racial limit, but after your racial limit you have to add 1000XP for every experience. So to get my monk to 96 accuracy I used up 2000XP, and then to get him to 97 I had to use 3000XP, etc...

During combat right click, then choose 'more options' and then 'location'

This "location" doesnt decrease chance to hit? Wouldnt make sence since hitting Head would be 100% best option.
About illusionist my mistake then - just shows how important to make proper party at start. If possible can you send me your savegame when your illusionist gets all (or almost all) spells?

About limbs, anyway its not a problem to visit temple after each dungeon.

    p.s.

Finished all city quests. Strange: there are still some dungeons which are not part of any quest. Like dungeon a bit north of Farnuk (with strange blue rune, still have to figure this one) and some dungeons in mountains.
Also probably there are still dungeons that you are not marked on map (in outdoor areas) or hidden in cities (like dungeon in rathadon capital).

    Thydra Cross

I can go impress the Lady of Demata. I am now her equal

Hmm... she still gives missions as if nothing changed... Oh well let's get it on!

This is the island in question I guess (check the small red rectangle)

This time I didn't bother using the boat. Transport is a great spell which also allows us to look around! So here we are

    And indeed this cave is...

    There's been some action here

    Always good to stay pragmatic

    Hmm?

This will have to wait for later...

Let's go report back to our lady

    Next mission?

Ok let's go tackle this dungeon!

    And here we are!

This place seems awfully busy for a lost city...

    A fork, let's go left!

    And we bump into gnolls

And shortly after as a random encounter

    And another random encounter

This place is full of monsters!

And we found our first secret door

And another one that is just on the other side

I'll check this out later, let's go on for now...

So this dungeon has some empty places...

Not that many though... seems like the Rathadonians are responsible for the massacre at the entrance.

Interesting are they purging the place of spiders?

Nope, it's being purged of trolls. Good luck with that!

Trolls are much tougher than rathadonian soldiers, gnolls or even ogres. And they regenerate to boot... But they're no match for my team espcially since my knight went dark :smug:

That must be the purging team

This place has been the theatre of a lot of bloodshed

    And it also stinks

This another entrance to that 'infested' zone

I think I found the main body of trolls

The trolls are really into naturism only one in 20 had a shirt on!

Having purged that area of trolls and found nothing of interest, we go further in the city to meet some more guards

The attacks of my knights have become so much more colourful since I acquired the sly sword

So colourful in fact that I am scaring off the bugbears now!

No mercy! I wonder if there is a really good axe somewhere, my warrior is completely outmatched by my knight now

And behind a secret door we find the general!

I wonder who designs their outfits

    He certainly feels superior

There are even mages! Couldn't stun them with the power word stun spell, they just laughed it off... They didn't laugh off the attacks of my warriors though.

The general was tougher than the captain but had no intereting equipment

This is the secret door I just came from

And in the room there is another one

    What do we find there?

Let's see what this key opens, so far I have not found any locked doors

Exploring further the dungeon we find some more guards

    And further in

These gargoyles were in a room with a weird layout

And just next to there we find some more crazy layouts

    Which hides another key!

Seems we'll have to collect quite a few of these keys

This is what the cubicles looked like

And in a room near there we find

The wind giant doesn't feel superior...

    But his friend does...

I wonder what makes some of the creatures feel superior and others not. I wonder if there is a bit of variability in the stats of the same creature types... Superior or not they didn't last long and they weren't protecting anything interesting

    Let's move on!

So there are even assassins here

    We reach the spider area

    And indeed

There were only 5 of them...

    Some more guards

Found a locked door but doesn't go with the white key

There are actually four locked doors, are these cells?

Exploring further we find a key

Let's see if it opens the doors we just found

    Nothing in there

One of the doors was different

So there was nothing of interest in these cages

This is quite a big dungeon! Any way in a corridor to the west we find a secret door in a completely randomn place!

And another one just after it which contains

    ... another white key

Interestingly enough, with a perception of 400, I get sometimes this message near secret doors but it's not guaranteed

That was the room with the key

    And further west

This time it's not thieves appearing from the shadows

Behind them was a secret door

And this happens again a treasure screen with nothing inside

Let's go back to the place with the 2 secret doors, it was hiding a big room with...

Can you guess what the magic word is? It isn't 'please'. I had to look in the file to find the answer

I will post it later, let me know what your guesses would be ;)

And this is what this hermit was guarding

This armor is slightly better than the dark knight's. I guess it's the best armor in the game

And on the other side of the room we find

    Cool!

Now, we've nearly finished the dungeon, all the way north we find three doors that are opened with the white keys

And a fourth one to which I have no key

I know I explored the dungeon fully and I definitely didn't didn't miss any secret door so I try the knock spell

    I try the passdoor spell

Finally my thief with his lock pick skills manages to open the door

Funnily enough, it took several attempts. But you need to load and save before each attempt as a failed attempt makes the door harder to open or so it says. I managed to open it (barely) with a base skill of 230. I guess I need to raise that to at least 300 for the next dungeons...

So we're in the final area! The cross must be near

    Double doors

Actually not, it's not a big room as I thought

    And another riddle

    This one is a classic

    Fun layout

Let's see what behind that door

No boss fight here, I guess that giant mouth did a good job at keeping monsters out

    Anyway back to Demata

She's got an interesting way of holding that...

    Next mission?

And she hands us back the cross!

And here we are! We'll go hunting some undead next!

That's actually the case right now, there's no point in aiming to the other locations. The head is as easy/hard to hit as the other locations. And it's the location with the least HP and the only location you can stun the enemy at. The enemies hit you in random locations.

Sure, I need to find some more cat's eyes potions

That's interesting, too bad we're too afraid to explore for fear of killing a quest creature and not keeping the body. It's also annoying that the vault can only contain 50 items

Hm, the lamest possible magic word would be "magic", but I don't think that's it... The "go away and come back another day" rhyme could be a hint to something like "tomorrow", "sunrise" or whatever. Riddle-solving inspiration critically low :(

Nevermind, the in-game map was adequate.

The manual mentions there should be a pregenerated party named "starting". Was this only on the ST version? None of the DOS versions I've downloaded contains this pregenerated party. As long as I don't know the ins and outs of the game I've found that for party based games I may as well use any pregenerated party the devs have included.

The dos version never came with a manual. I don't remember the original game having a pre-generated party either. I don't have the original box with me right now to check... heck I don't even have a floppy drive to test it anyway now that I think about it...

I can help you set up your party if you want, let me know what you're looking for

Thanks, I'm looking for a party that has all (or as many as possible) of the races, classes and skills covered.
I'm not looking for a party of 8 "Fairy Ninjas" or whatever is the winning combo in Disciples of Steel.

I'm also trying to build up enthusiasm for this game. Since I'm playing games chronologically (started with replaying Bard's Tale 1 last year) I'm really starting to get tired of the same old "you must defeat an ancient evil that is threatening to conquer the world" in yet another generic fantasy world (maybe I should skip ahead and play Civilization instead).
With a pregenerated party I could at least have just plunged into the game and quickly find out if I liked it enough to complete it. But I don't like the prospect of rolling 8 characters for a poorly documented game that I may end up not liking.

The game is fun because it's system is quite fun and unique. It has a lot of nice little touches. For exemple Giants are able to smash trees that are blocking their ways when fighting outside! :)
Definitely worth playing, because it's quite a unique game if you look at its system

Yes as Whisper says my party is quite diversified, here's a quick breakdown of the classes:

Monk: masters of open hand and dodge. Here open hand is really well implemented, it deals low damage but has a very high stun effect. And it's the quickest skill to develop. Great for early mid game. Boost accuracy with them

Warrior: the axe man. They're very good at all other weapons too but specialise in axe. Only problem I haven't found a good axe yet. Might be worthwhile to develop their edged or crush instead. STR & CON

Knight: Masters of edged, shield and armor. Not sure if you want to raise shield as the best sword I found so far is 2 handed. Unless you have another swordmaster, in that case you will be using the backstabbing dagger + shield combo

Ranger: the bowman. Accuracy all the way

Rogue: you should boost his accuracy normally, but I use him mainly for perception which is governed by another attribute, wisdom or intuition I think. You also need disarm/pick skill.

Blacksmith: They're the only class that can fix weapons (it's not a skill but a special ability so no other class can do it). Never used that class because I just fix stuff at the shops. They're good with crushing weapons and haggling (never needed that skill). If I was replaying the game, I might consider having him instead of the warrior...

Priest: Like other spell casters it's essential you get the relevant attribute as high as possible to get all the spells. For Priests it's Wisdom.

Illusionist: Intuition, you need a female elf for the highest intuition

Magician: Intelligence, you need an elf again (male or female, doesn't matter)

Whisper, do you have any more advice to add to that?

I would probably replace monk with second wizard.

Or even another fighter (as long as you dont have more then 2 Edged specialists), because at higher levels average dmg of fighter is 70-100 on average mob. Monk does 20-30.

Also question to anyone who finished. In last dungeon the big bad is where exactly? I got message that he was in room with several giants, but instead saw only 1 storm giant and noone else (feature?). Where is big bad approximately? Hopefuly i am not missing too many secret walls with 480 perception.

And if i cant find him - it is possible to finish game by attacking and taking over rathadon cities?

Hmm...9 classes and 8 party members. So which class is least useful?

So far my tentative, politically correct (no races excluded) party is:

    Human Monk
    Ogre Blacksmith
    Troll Warrior
    Elf Mage
    Half Elf Ranger
    Dwarf Knight
    Gnome Illusionist
    Halfling Rogue

I'm tempted to make either the Ranger or the Illusionist a Priest, as I think a Priest is more essential than those. Most likely replace Half Elf Ranger with Priest.

I already have an Elf Mage and I want all races represented.

I think I'll go with this:

    Human Monk
    Ogre Blacksmith
    Troll Warrior
    Elf Mage
    Half Elf Ranger
    Dwarf Knight
    Gnome Cleric
    Halfling Rogue

This party lacks an Illusionist. Will that be a problem?
I need to sacrifice one class anywat, so is an illusionst expendable? Or should I ditch the Ranger instead?

Ranger probably is strongest class mid-levels.

Unlike monk, he can not only stun with crits but also blind. And unlike all other phys.dps classes he can ignore defence and body stats, thus getting +attack from Bow skill much faster.

If you want all races (why?) then go with your party. You still will be able to finish game. Just at generation do your best to get max prime stat at least for mage (Intelligence) and illusionist (Intuition) and Cleric (Wisdom) (or they will have low amount of spells).

That's a difficult question really... I ditched the blacksmith because I figured that he wouldn't be that useful. Make sure you maximise the main attribute when you roll them up.
You could do away with the rogue and divide his skills between monk and ranger. that's another option.
I don't think you want to ditch any spellcaster as you want to try all spells available?

The monk is a fun character to play because he's unique. He allowed me to tackle enemies I was too under-leveled to touch otherwise. He's also the character that gets the most XP per enemy killed for some reason so he improves faster than all other classes. He is essentially the tough creature killer, and not that efficient against mobs.

The ranger doesn't cause stun nearly as often as the monk.

    Good point.
So a Rogue is less essential than a Ranger? Does this mean there aren't much traps and locks in this game?

I've skimmed through the Let's Play and I'm getting more excited about this game now.

You must take in account that ranger almost always attacks, while monk can have to get close to enemy thus waisting time. Also some mobs are hard to get (behind others or another end of battlefield).
Also ranger can ignore body, armor and evade (i.e. defencive skills) so ranger can get weapon skill and dmg faster, i.e. you would tackle strong mobs faster. He stuns less, but unlike monk he can also blind.

Rogue is not needed, you just need to max his Picklock/Disarm skill with another character.

You probably NEED 1 wizard, 1 cleric, 2 frontline fighters and 1 faster-leveling specialist (ranger or monk to stun tough mobs). Other spots you can fill as want, though some setups are more optimal.

Im remember. Ii finished this game long time ago and wanna play it again. Someone can send link where find workable game. I got some version wich have crack but after 1hour of play it destroy all saved games.I go after this post to search for game on net and maybe i find.
So lets start what i remember and can help you. Best armor wich u can find and sword type wpn. Walk island city to south u can be ambushed by death knight. when u kill him u get some nice 2h sword and dark mail set of armor(later i found some light mail +40 set i think wich is little better i think, but sword is amazing). Later use search option near this city and u can locate lair with 1 more death knight and 1x set of equipment u can get. I know 1 more place exist with same mob on map and 1 more lair, but didnt remembered where. I didnt used monk in my party. i know priest with 103 wisdom can make some spell wich can kill all mobs. I think is name wrath of god or something like this. Spell dont have area -just kill all. Need power 4-5 and nobody survives. One more thing about codes in game. U get starting letter and u can type 3 more letters than work have. So this can help u much for guessing code. I found book and i can post u some codes if u want people. Sorry because i put to many helter -skelter things here. i post better one hints when make game to work at my pc with dosbox.(and when learn to write english bettter).
