Another outpost?

Thanks for the feedback!

And let's continue:

Before going on to the next mission, let's equip ourselves a bit better

TbWuW.jpg

I got perfect weapons for everybody apart the ranger who gets a terrific heavy crossbow (couldn't find the highest quality for missile weapons yet)

Ok, we're in Hollengard (city of dwarves), let's drop by the ruler who will only speak with skilled fighters.

KKRmC.jpg

We actually get experience for that!

Anyway our (next) mission...

wTkVJ.jpg

...involves another outpost

0ousw.jpg

Yep! sounds right!

KoYQb.jpg

Orcs are quite sophisticated about their hobbies...

HwwmF.jpg

While some orcs have fun, others are slaving away

4xzjE.jpg

My first skeletons!

E7aWb.jpg

They're not tough...

This outpost has quite a variety in term of enemies

dOhwU.jpg

Yep they're supposed to be tough for my team

2h2so.jpg

But that's if we forget about my monk...

This game is full of secret doors...

04Gba.jpg

I wonder what's the point of hiding this part

uzGWq.jpg

I couldn't find anything, maybe it's for later?

As we explore the outpost we find a door...

LKcNk.jpg

We'll answer with the force!!

UfAAI.jpg

...Or maybe it was a bad idea

Lqon9.jpg

This fight is impossible for my current party

The walls are quite flat...

sbBAj.jpg

Interesting... I like these small descriptions that add a bit of credibility to these outposts

9cfUZ.jpg

oh? This is the sound of bats

LQqB9.jpg

It managed to survive the full attacks of my knight armed with a good weapon!

qTUar.jpg

No wonder I had trouble before with the 'clean the tower' mission!

We meet some new enemies...

zmBzc.jpg

These guys are well equipped... They carry 'terrific' weapons the level of quality just below 'perfection' which is the best. Thankfully my warriors are well equipped and make short work of them. This outpost is starting to feel a bit too high in level for a second mission... Well, maybe because it's for the dwarves...

Ouch!

HTDw6.jpg

Need to increase my perception and disarm/pick skills!

hmm... who can that be?

Y6xQJ.jpg

What is that? A golem?

71i9y.jpg

It was a frost giant. I only managed to kill him because I managed to stun him with my monk! That was a tricky fight!

And we find a key

Fa9KL.jpg

sy3jh.jpg

We will avenge you brother!

uwFQO.jpg

4PuU0.jpg

The other one didn't survive that long...

Xj4Al.jpg

...but left us a nice shield

qY5Ye.jpg

Ok we have the password

cwUML.jpg

rhhLO.jpg

This door leads to stairs that lead to a lower floor where we find a lot of locked doors

DtUQQ.jpg

Let's kill the traitors!

btUkv.jpg

This trap is inescapable. One way to cheat and limit damage is to dismiss all the characters and leave the one with the best body development and dodge skills to take the damage

eoV4O.jpg

Yep he handled it well!

rMogb.jpg

What's behind that door?

EeLIz.jpg

Ah ok...

uSgZF.jpg

Let's try our luck with this fight

A good way to get an idea on enemies is their attitudes: the fire giant is definitely superior to my team

J5MIV.jpg

The Ettin is at a level close to my party

AvGK1.jpg

And if the enemies are apprehensive like orcs are to my party, that means they're under-leveled and easy to kill

Clearly over-leveled...

bzF4c.jpg

The fire giant basically killed all my characters in one hit and I couldn't even touch him. This dungeon is definitely too difficult for my party... Will need to come back later.

I wonder if I was in the right dungeon... Even though it is to the north of Hollengard like the king said... I take a look around...

bXCL4.jpg

EXcrC.jpg

...and find another entrance very close to the dungeon that just destroyed my party!

KrSTh.jpg

Yet another outpost

PlzXu.jpg

This one seems to be the right one

ToD1P.jpg

Is it the right one? I don't know yet for sure, but I'll explore it when I get the chance! :)

So, is there some sort of main quest around, or are you supposed to ask every city ruler for quests until you complete the game?

HwwmF.jpg

Since when are orks intelligent enough to play power??

The main quest is to get all the countries united against the dark forces and win the upcoming war. You can either do quests to get a good reputation with the rulers or you can attempt to overthrow them. You can also try to conquer them once you control a country yourself. At least that's what I know so far.

My, he's quite a sight!

Yeah, he's definitely the most impressive enemy I've encountered so far, much better looking that his frost cousin :)

Nice update! Much better. Hopefully you are in the right dungeon now. I thought you were updating at the weekends so I only checked on Sunday evening.

Probably later, you really need to be at a high level to pull off something like that :)

Yeah I play mainly on the weekends, but my update is not always ready on time, so I sometimes finish it during the week

Yet another outpost

Good to be back in yet another outpost. The orcs take their role seriously

0fSAA.jpg

Weird entrance layout

Fpd5u.jpg

NNaOX.jpg

It was an entrance to the dining hall, how... delightful

sDWOk.jpg

8fgJ5.jpg

Let's look at how our ennemies feel, he doesn't feel superior anymore?

POMPk.jpg

eDtiQ.jpg

Ok let's start the battle!

M2hpR.jpg

Our magician packs a mean punch!

jNInx.jpg

Not bad punk!

f6QXm.jpg

Seems that a few hits shaked this guys motivation

DJXph.jpg

This is a fun part in this game. The ennemies are subject to morale as opposed to my party. As more and more of their numbers fall, they start being nervous. And the weaker ennemies freeze or just run away.

And they should run away...

Vq8Yg.jpg

I think I should add some minimal armor skill to my monk... I think it combines with dodging

Un5Aw.jpg

Didn't even finish bandaging everybody when I get assaulted!

GkHAU.jpg

Never fight with a cornered monk

qwI5h.jpg

The game remembers you were trying to heal and the menu pops automatically after the battle is finished

yaFm6.jpg

Behind a secret door

jErrD.jpg

yet more bats

EX27B.jpg

They were carrying gold and silver... I didn't know bats were attracted to shiny things...

TBIns.jpg

Wow this outpost is crawling with orcs!

jaCGM.jpg

Remember what I was saying about morale?

hIN5W.jpg

At the end of the corridor another secret door

UNH5p.jpg

Found another secrtet door yet by mistake!

H4YIi.jpg

My party is quite scary it seems!

UENjy.jpg

Back to square one... I wonder what the architect was thinking when he made 2 parallel corridors...

9B7W4.jpg

Oh, new ennemies. I like the amount of poison they use

5IPzb.jpg

He may seems alone, but there was another one hiding. Monsters and characters hiding are completely invisible

OvsWR.jpg

Oh, there is a huge army guarding this door

BfA98.jpg

And one of them starts the battle in the middle of my party!

Nni9l.jpg

Oups

U0vzq.jpg

Found out later that if I have the money on 'autopool', nobody can carry anymore coins. So I needed to switch off autopool to be able to carry more money. Autopool automatically switches all the party's money to the character that is selected.

There are a bunch of rooms behind the door

g1LKr.jpg

Oh a room for jabberlings, but the leader is a wolfwarrior...

B9MJx.jpg

Interesting...

yFBkO.jpg

But the door is locked

JQhAu.jpg

I've searched but haven't found anything...

hy2xp.jpg

Not even a secret door

Qp9Ud.jpg

On the other side there is a treasure it appeared automatically when I stepped on the tile. I wonder if the search function has any use

UBDMf.jpg

vAmki.jpg

vAmki.jpg

nest6.jpg

I wonder what that is for... It might be a quest item.

hmm... interesting description of the ennemy

g7Ger.jpg

ah! it's these guys!

eOcxI.jpg

Another interesting description

aUML4.jpg

OlQJY.jpg

7wjxI.jpg

I miss text descriptions in games...

With all this entrance he didn't even handle my monks full attacks

8j4hV.jpg

My monk has now 4 attacks. If I remember correctly, you can have up to 5 attacks

oh rats! I like their design :)

MR4xh.jpg

They didn't last long...

And going back to the dining hall's last door, we find

lXJTU.jpg

GMJcb.jpg

Yeah, even the cook is armed! I guess he must need some heavy equipment to cut, smash and burn whatever the troups eat

Ok, let's go to that door I forgot and we find

ArVsq.jpg

That fight was quickly finished... he didnt have a fire giant helping him... Anyway in a corner of the room we find:

Vd9hg.jpg

This looks interesting

UD44K.jpg

It adds 10 points to perception when you equip it, cool!

This is all good, but I didn't find the hammer... yet

Sorry for the long wait, but I'm finally back. There is another update that I need to write, which I'll try to post by tomorrow. I've played these section some time ago so the flow suffered a bit from it. Hope you can still follow it well enough :)

Before we go on chasing that hammer, let's tie a few loose ends:

My monk has a personal battle to fight, so he goes back to the dungeon where we found that beast that reaked of death. First obstacle

HnRZc.jpg

Ok it was only a random encounter...

xlveu.jpg

Yep, they were easy let's move on...

G2r7l.jpg

NYnFd.jpg

um5B4.jpg

QQMfT.jpg

Fun dungeon design!

Here we are again

xV2OV.jpg

This is my monks quest! To fight death in the eyes with only his fists!

nWvEp.jpg

vzu3B.jpg

rswhG.jpg

That wasn't so much of a challenge... yet the smell still clings to the place

VWWDe.jpg

While we're in this interlude, let's go kill these giant bat that gave us trouble it the island at the beginning of the game:

C8rVE.jpg

With my improved team, it went quite fast... But still the gargantuan bats pack a mean punch

ghX3B.jpg

Still let's report our success

WAeVT.jpg

Next mission

GEj2n.jpg

But we'll leave that for much later as I plan to find that hammer and continue with the quest line in Hollengard for now.

The Fleeting Hammer

Ok, having explored the area a bit further north, I find another dungeon... is it the the one I've been looking for?

OM3wm.jpg

Hmm... interesting

dZBfu.jpg

Seems like Poker is a popular activity among orcs

9U1iF.jpg

While some were having fun, others were suffering in the next room

sbTTL.jpg

And further down...

r31YL.jpg

vX2AU.jpg

It seems the more you go up in the ranks the more well spoken you become

Unfortunately our disciples are not that refined

GHXib.jpg

Targeted face smashing

CNeUY.jpg

Not all rooms are well maintained

G6rGQ.jpg

And in these places you find

uZMpC.jpg

woJUX.jpg

But even an extraordinary number wasn't enough...

qkKXV.jpg

1els7.jpg

And we find

l88B0.jpg

N2fuM.jpg

50bnj.jpg

Oh... a backstabbing dagger!!

wjYIC.jpg

This is possibly the best weapon in the whole game, it certainly is much more powerful than what I have now...

In another room near here...

gWQv7.jpg

And when you smell something...

UvelD.jpg

Fun, and who thought that bugbears were undisciplined?

0LVMf.jpg

Not as well spoken as his other colleague...

Fv8Mb.jpg

That's what he was guarding... nice!

jXm59.jpg

I really love how I find all of these creature doing different things! :)
I really miss these simple little descriptions...

0lo8B.jpg

Oh well he didn't stay awake for long

OKjPX.jpg

And that concludes this dungeon, there was no major boss fight that I could think of, but I did find a very nice weapon. In that case, I need to go try to kill the Fire Giant, as I don't see any other options.
But first I need to train my characters as I can't even touch him now

Thanks! :)

BTW, do you know how to get the 'in progress' tag in front of the thread?

Hoping to have the next update up later tonight

Ask a certain moderator (Jarlfrank, to be precise). Also, cool updates, but it lacks emotionally challenging content to be considered a true rpg :troll:

The Fire Giant

So I trained my party... and it was actually fun!
The way I did it, is that I sent every character on a training expedition on his own and that way I could see the potential of each class, but that will be for another post, let's go tackle that Fire giant!

Here we are again

Kfd0j.jpg

This time the Fire giant is just next to the monk, how convenient!

PyxzG.jpg

My monk has now 400 in open hand and 5 attacks and he barely damages the giant but he manages to stun him! It's over...

KNr0A.jpg

Just as a note, the enemies don't always have the same starting position, it is randomly generated at each fight

Our rogue has worked on his hide skill

YpnuL.jpg

Our Priest tries to damage an Ettin

p4lWZ.jpg

CkRJ1.jpg

But the damage wasn't very high... didn't get the chance to take a picture as the text zaps quickly

Our magician casts a Annihilation

GB3aW.jpg

And that spell almost killed the Ettin

Aiming...

yZyGF.jpg

... can really hurt!

7N27X.jpg

My team really got stronger

dOCxx.jpg

And the Fire Giant still hasn't moved...

R6e4L.jpg

... which is a good thing. He's able to kill any of my characters in one or two strikes. So I had to attack him first and stun him before he could do anything.

8YGpz.jpg

6wws2.jpg

Let's take a souvenir from that battle

eZwcx.jpg

And in one corner of the room... Is the hammer here?!

VCgpn.jpg

Yeah!!!

HMRnp.jpg

Finally!!! So the first dungeon was the right one... Didn't expect that the first mission would have such a high level boss to kill.

So let's go see what's behind the closed doors

hbxBr.jpg

QmVY7.jpg

Didn't know Gargoyles originated from Hungary...

Uaq5j.jpg

gT5q3.jpg

After a Fire Giant, that's a walk in the park

F1gzd.jpg

And the other door

5w8zr.jpg

wow

Fgkq6.jpg

huh?

pVXbx.jpg

Huge amounts money, a treasure screen... but nothing

Going further we find

6LAfK.jpg

What's behind that door?

RA99e.jpg

N7n8U.jpg

Oh... that was what that small room was...

gXKYe.jpg

kyo3m.jpg

Oh well, I guess that everybody has the same physiological needs...

Back to Hollengard

Hf5vj.jpg

uce5U.jpg

And next mission...

MfFcM.jpg

Going to the city to the south, we go to the palace. But first let's ask what's the first mission they have to give me

bOLmX.jpg

f06oj.jpg

Ok... it's the same thing. Well here you go

ikO6w.jpg

And back to Hollengard we go to the next mission

u2gvm.jpg

AH AH! That is the mission about the ogre I could never find!

Here he is, just east of Hollengard, and he is called a Weart not an Ogre on the screen

iWqZ2.jpg

Na74e.jpg

75r38.jpg

rkBiq.jpg

We take the remains

JIoSZ.jpg

And indeed

nwRX0.jpg

In the old version I played years ago, the Weart remains weren't recognised and I couldn't finish the mission. This time it worked!

So what is the next mission?

MeNTv.jpg

pHjfc.jpg

So in next update we will go mining!
