Yes. I died quite a few times actually in my playthrough so far because I had to get in close during engagements. Melee combat is very risky (and wasteful in terms of medkits used) since I'm so vulnerable. The subway fight would've been very difficult I imagine if I didn't have the LAM or GEP and I was just trying to melee them.

I'm assuming those flickering textures is the result of using the DX10 renderer.

Recommendation, not a requirement: switch to the DX9 and configure it beforehand in GMDX.ini with the following settings:

Will try that on my next session. I stopped noticing the flickering after a while.
