I see we don't have a lp for Darkest Dungeon yet and we should since it's become a great rpg.

I'm pretty terrible at keeping lp's but that's on me, not the game. I'm also not an expert at this game.

Anyway before we get started let's do some legwork.

First, which difficulty: Darkest or Bloodmoon?

Darkest is the normal difficulty: even if we keep dying, we'll eventually make progress since there's no "game over." The positives are we can play less conservatively and try more stupid shit.

Bloomoon is the insane difficulty: it's game over once the 10th adventurer is killed. On the one hand it means our game is pretty much doomed to fail, and we'll have to play more conservatively. On the other hand it means the LP can finish up pretty quickly.

Two excitiing levels of entertainment, it's a win-win.

Second, let's start signing up a Codex roster.

You can simply post your character name and class. Or if you have a backer adventurer, post that.

If you want you can be more detailed: you can list your preferred skills, trinkets, backer trinkets, etc...

For those unfamiliar with Darkest Dungeon, here's a summary of the character classes (they're mostly self explanatory):

Abomination: a lunatic that transforms into a werewolf. Male.
Antiquarian: a treasure hunter/ merchant that is terrible in combat. Female.
Arbalest: a slow crossbow sniper. Female.
Bounty Hunter: a versatile combat specialist that can fight well from any range. Male.
Crusader: your basic paladin/ knight. Male, but who can tell.
Flagellant: a warrior that likes to hurt himself. Very Codexian. Male.
Graverobber: a swashbuckling rogue with some potion and poison tricks. Female.
Hellion: a butchy barbarian berserker with a halberd. Minsc with boobs. Suitable for SJWs. Female.
Highwayman: an anti-heroic rogue that fights up close with a rapier and far away with a pistol. Or shoots you in the face with said pistol. Male.
Houndmaster: has a dog and a big club. Comes with doggie treats. Male.
Jester: like a medieval Deadpool. He's sort of a bard vigilante. A bard that likes to hurt people. Yeah. Very Codexian. Male, but who can tell.
Leper: if you've seen Kingdom of Heaven- Leper. A warrior with a greatsword and a death mask. A tank that hits hard but has zero mobility and terrible accuracy. Male, but who can tell.
Men-at-Arms: a tactician tank. Male.
Occultist: a Lovecraftian sorcerer. Kind of like the sorcerer/ summoner class in this game, except he is also the 2nd best healer in the game. When RNGthulhu answers his prayers. Male and Arabic, with a turban.
Plague Doctor: the other wizard class, but more like an alchemist/ mad scientist in flavor. Female, but who can tell.
Vestal: your basic cleric. Surprisingly effective offensive spellcaster too. Female.

Looks like Darkest difficulty won- no retreat guys, amirite? So instead of a LP doomed to fail, now we'll have a LP doomed to be abandoned. I promise I'll try not to get your heroes killed until we need to make more space.

So begins our mission to cleanse Fell Codexia.

Week 0: Road Ambush

dd0003.jpg

What rotten luck! It seems that the fates are already conspiring against us before we've even arrived in the village proper, as our coach crashes into the forest.

dd0004.jpg

Dismas and Reynauld, our initial guides. As we'll see, we're gonna fire Reynauld as soon as we have a replacement.

dd0005.jpg

Our first encounter is a lonely brigand. He's completely outmatched.

dd0006.jpg

Reynauld's pretty good at thunking things, but he has a terrible dark side...

dd0009.jpg

We stumble onto the bandit camp.

dd0011.jpg

The fat bandit shoots Reynauld in the face. Dismas, you should learn to do that.

dd0013.jpg

Reynauld never gets tired of this.

dd0014.jpg

Luckily, we discover some missing deeds in the banditos' possession. This is probably the best treasure we can get from these bandits.

dd0015.jpg

dd0016.jpg

For our excellent play, Reynald and Dismas are rewarded with two crappy feats.
dd0101.jpg

We've finally arrived in Fell Codexia! Not much to do in the first week, most places are still closed. But we can check the stage coach to see who's arrived.
dd0102.jpg

A Plague Doctor and a Vestal. What a surprise.

dd0104.jpg

The extra deeds we lucked into allow us to upgrade the coach twice, which means we'll have an extra victim hero next arrival.

dd0105.jpg

Nekot is first Codexian hero to arrive! What a surprise. Quickdraw is beautiful on a plague doctor, as we'll soon see. But we'll have to treat that kleptomania asap before it locks (unless we want to keep it for role playing purposes?). His initial skill selection is a mixed bag, but he at least he has disorienting blast and quckdraw makes Vapors a lot better, again as we'll see shortly.

dd0106.jpg

Valene is similarly lacking in good skills, but at least she has the cleric stun attack.

dd0107.jpg

Not much options. Time to head to our first dungeon. Note that this is the classic fighter, rogue, cleric and mage foursome.

dd0108.jpg

The first dungeon is pretty short, I'm sure we wont need so many torches. What could go wrong?

Week 1: Baby's First Dungeon

dd0109.jpg

dd0110.jpg

Keep up everyone! I have smites to give and loot to filch!

dd0111.jpg

We ambush two poor skellies guarding a small chest in the first room.

dd0113.jpg

Our two back-row stunners quickly disable the skellies. Reynauld: batter up!

dd0114.jpg

Dismas lands the final blow.

dd0116.jpg

Next - two skellies guarding a cultist.

dd0117.jpg

Nekot rocks the cultist before he can get out a single word.

dd0118.jpg

Batter up!

dd0120.jpg

Trash talk!

dd0121.jpg

Dismas cleans up. Even though Nekot can't hit the front position, him going first allows him to haste Dismas with Vapors.

dd0122.jpg

And this is why we have to send Reynauld packing.

dd0124.jpg

We ambush the guards in the treasure room.

dd0125.jpg

Nekot, MVP.

dd0126.jpg

Batter up!

dd0128.jpg

Valene sneaks in a kill.

dd0130.jpg

Three skellies in the fountain room.

dd0131.jpg

MVP.

dd0132.jpg

Batter up!

dd0133.jpg

Trash talk!

dd0134.jpg

Die!

dd0135.jpg

I don't think fountains can remove bad quirks, but we try with Nekot anyway.

dd0136.jpg

Fuck Reynauld.

So I accidently didn't use a shovel to clear some debris, so we take 80 stress and burn out all our light. What's the worst that could happen?

dd0138.jpg

Uh oh. Amubshed. This is... unfamiliar.

dd0139.jpg

Hey bitches. Nekot can still stun you from the front rank. Our stunners play damage mitigation while Reynauld and Dismas get into position.

dd0140.jpg

By the 3rd turn, we've fixed our ranks somewhat.

dd0141.jpg

Dismas gets the first kill.

dd0143.jpg

Nekot gets gobsmacked by a nasty rusty spiked chain. On the bright side, he got pushed back.

dd0145.jpg

What? How can you slash me from rank 3? Nekot is on death's door!

dd0146.jpg

Batter up!

dd0148.jpg

Die!

dd0149.jpg

We took some blows but the reward was worth it.

dd0150.jpg

A lucrative haul.

dd0151.jpg
The week 2 arrivals:

dd0201.jpg

:(

dd0202.jpg

dd0203.jpg

Nice initial skill spread for Reinhardt. We'll be leaning heavily on him for the next mission.

dd0204.jpg

Guess I'll be the sniper.

Lepers wont party with Abominations so we'll have to leave either Dayyalu or Wayward Son behind next expedition. A leper with the yips is probably even worse than an antiquarian, so...

Just choose whomever would make it more entertaining. A Leper that can't hit anything has potential for hilarity.

Or roll a dice if you want to keep it random.

Week 2: Wayward Son saved us all

dd0206.jpg

Before embarking, we drop off Nekot and Valene in the tavern. I usually wouldn't waste coin on a red shirt but we might need to keep some healers around.

dd0207.jpg

Shouldn't we bring two shovels? Nah, what's the point of having extra shovels if you forget to use them?

dd0208.jpg

Isn't dungeon delving extremely Freudian?... Sometimes an entrance is just an entrance.

dd0209.jpg

I'm terrified of Wayward Son. ... I'm terrified of myself.

dd0210.jpg

Maggots! Beast mode! ... It's just maggots. Keep the beast in your pants.

dd0211.jpg

... Peter North would be impressed.

dd0212.jpg

dd0213.jpg

I guess I'll clean up this mess.

dd0215.jpg

FUCK. A madman already?

dd0216.jpg

This fight is why we brought along beast mode.

dd0217.jpg

Dismas didn't hit the madman, but at least he hit something.

dd0220.jpg

I don't like your face. THONK.

dd0221.jpg

... fuck.

dd0222.jpg

I will not miss. THONK.

dd0223.jpg

... fuck. I guess we have to go around (we already used our shovel:( )

dd0224.jpg

This can go horribly wrong very quickly.

dd0225.jpg

Wayward Son was super clutch all day. Did abominations get a speed boost? Going first with stun is full of win.

dd0226.jpg

Ok, we're safe. Probably.

dd0229.jpg

Two more rooms left... we're gonna make it... fuck. Maybe not.

dd0230.jpg

I think this skill got a boost too. I don't remember it hitting the front two positions before.

dd0231.jpg

Finish it!

dd0232.jpg

Room was empty! Yeah, no one went crazy!

dd0233.jpg

dd0234.jpg

No one went insane. A win is a win.

The wagon brought added another Codexian hero to our company.

dd0303.jpg

And three more red shirts:

dd0304.jpg

dd0305.jpg

dd0306.jpg

Villagers have opened the guild, so we can finally unlock skills.

dd0307.jpg

dd0308.jpg

We now have a nice choice of missions. The Weald mission offers some nice loot, or we could take Imoen on a Ruin run.

Our current Roster:

Codexians:
Dayyalu, Leper
Reinhardt, Man-at-Arms (must de-stress)
Nevill, Bounty Hunter
Wayward Son (must de-stress)
Qinalo, Arbalest
Nekot, Plague Doctor

Red Shirts:
Reynauld, "Crusader" (actually a THIEF)
Dismas, Highwayman (must de-stress)
Sandor Clegane, Bounty Hunter
Robb Stark, Houndmaster
Valene, Vestal (has a hangover)
Imoen, Antiquarian

For all the "lol rng" elements in the game they never changed the 2 heroes you get at the start, which is surprising.

Week 3: Dayyalu the BUTCHER

dd0310.jpg

Before we embark, we drop off Reinhardt at the bar and Wayward Son at the abbey.

dd0311.jpg

Ok, I'm pursuaded. TWO shovels this time.

dd0312.jpg

dd0313.jpg

Three trackers on my team, i'll hit something! - Let's check out the room north first.

dd0314.jpg

A wall! Aren't you glad we bought an extra shovel? Maybe we'll need three...

dd0315.jpg

A fight before we get into the first room!

dd0316.jpg

GET OVER HERE. Nevill's job is to do this and kill things.

dd0317.jpg

CHOP.

dd0319.jpg

Dayylu's job is to kill things.

dd0320.jpg

Empty room, let's head back... wtf these bandits come from?!

dd0321.jpg

Qinalo marked the fat guy. CHOP.
dd0322.jpg

CHOP.

dd0323.jpg

CHOMP. Now that's teamwork.

dd0325.jpg

CHOP.

dd0326.jpg

Third fight before we've even gotten to the third room.

dd0327.jpg

CHOP.

dd0328.jpg

CHOP.

dd0329.jpg

And a second wall. Ok, I'm convinced, 2 shovels from now on.

dd0330.jpg

4th fight. At least we got the drop on them.

dd0332.jpg

CHOP.
dd0333.jpg

CHOP. Aren't you supposed to miss?!

dd0334.jpg

Take some time to heal, since you know, we've only had 1 healer who's been missing on a drinking binge.

dd0335.jpg

CHOP.

dd0336.jpg

Yes! Treasure!

dd0337.jpg

CHOP. Dayyalu chops one of the skellies since I didn't think he could hit a courtier.

dd0340.jpg

CHOMP.

dd0341.jpg

PEW PEW.

dd0342.jpg

CHOP.

dd0343.jpg

That was remarkably painless.

dd0344.jpg

dd0345.jpg

NICE.

dd0400.jpg

Week 4 has brought another Codex brother to our fold.

dd0402.jpg

And three more red shirts:

dd0403.jpg

dd0404.jpg

dd0405.jpg

The Sanitorium has re-opened, so we can finally treat Nekot's kleptomania. A gypsy has moved into the viillage as well, peddling her trinkets. A survivalist can teach us camping skills so we can now go on longer missions.

Wait, wasn't that the Leper who had even lower Acc than usual? He seems to be doing well.
