Block on a gutter runner is fine, but yeah, nothing fancy. On the other hand, something fancy often comes with a "kill me first!" note attached, when we're talking skaven...
And there's still double mutations to consider if it ever happens. All in all, Skaven is a very imbalanced team in terms of development. They'll always have extremes and it's always misleading to see a team like this dominating plays, only to get smashed on the next few matches.

Welcome back to our Friday Night Bloodbowl.
Tonight's match is going to be tough for us, since we're missing three regular players and have no gold to replace them.

01.jpg

That's right. The team is playing with three journeymen. This is going to be rough.
And our opponent for tonight is...
02.jpg

:hmmm:
03.jpg

Due to the inflated cost of the journeymen, the inducement of 50,000 gold goes to the Downfall.

04.jpg

He spends it on a Bloodweiser Babe.

05.jpg

Why is everyone playing this boring team?

06.jpg

Won coin toss, offence at full power for me.

08.jpg

Good kick-event. Let's go!

09.jpg

No need to think too hard - break left and flood.

10.jpg

11.jpg

13.jpg

14.jpg

15.jpg

OK, at least the Chaos coach goes for some positioning first, before going for the blitz.

16.jpg

Nails a down on our Stormvermin.

17.jpg

One player down already. Down the middle of the line, we're slightly luckier.

18.jpg

19.jpg

20.jpg

Spoke too soon. Two player down in one turn.

Turn 2
01.jpg

I gotta admit, I'm not a patient player, and thankfully, Skaven isn't a patient team. The defense of this team is too weak to play a slow, delaying game. It will pay a heavy price when the armor breaks keep coming, unlike harder teams like orcs who took their time to build up and move forward as a crushing cage. But that doesn't mean I like playing with a numerical disadvantage in almost every match.

Enough whining, let's play on.

02.jpg

I push Azira forward more for the quick touchdown. While Stompah gives an assist.

03.jpg

I may have mispositioned Night Goat and he has totally lost his man, so off to the left he goes.

04.jpg

And our situation is so bad that I had to rely on a linerat to do the 2D block. Thankfully, gragt delivers.

05.jpg

06.jpg

Opened a nice hole, and I used the blitz movement to corner the beastman on the line.

07.jpg

08.jpg

His blocking dice continues to take down our rats.

09.jpg

That's three rats down. Ridiculous.

10.jpg

Guess you can't eat Korean buffet anymore.

11.jpg

At least, Stompah only gets pushed.

12.jpg

Oh dear.

13.jpg

No injury, thankfully. It was then the opposition coach decides to extract the beastman near the line.

14.jpg

15.jpg

I'm not sure why he thinks this is necessary with the kind of man advantage he has.

Turn 3 - Suddenly, Stompa
Night Goat gets his man, time to play for the touch-down.

01.jpg

Don't let me down, Gragt...

02.jpg

03.jpg

Tsk..fuck it. This is THE turn. This is THE turn that I MUST score. I cannot stop HERE. I must GO ON. Fire the reroll.

04.jpg

05.jpg

Yes. Yes. I knew it'd work. Go. Mark someone.

06.jpg

Everyone's waking up for the touchdown. The hole's open. Let's get in there.

07.jpg

08.jpg

Jews. It's time.

09.jpg

10.jpg

12.jpg

Yes, we can do this. I don't give a shit if it looks risky, cause this is Skaven. We can't play any other way.

13.jpg

Vindication, motherfucker. You touch naught but air.
I am like the wind, I am-

Still turn 3
17.jpg

Damn. At least the block dices against us suddenly turned kinder.

18.jpg

19.jpg

20.jpg

21.jpg

Spoke too soon.

22.jpg

23.jpg

A go-for-it? I'm not sure about that-

24.jpg

 Told ya, that tile's cursed.

25.jpg

You want to WHAT?

26.jpg

Happily, the dice failed. Turnover.

Turn 4
01.jpg

That botched GFI gave me an opening. One I cannot refuse.

02.jpg

03.jpg

Damn. I gotta score now. It HAS to happen. NAO.

04.jpg

05.jpg

Yes! Fuck. It's about time. Seriously, this touchdown costed me 2 rerolls.

06.jpg

07.jpg

08.jpg

09.jpg

And both our KOs awaken. This is a good thing.
Time to play defense. Hnnngh from Turn 5.
Not a good start.

Turn 5 - I hate defending
01.jpg

The kick off event is good for us. One turn wasted. One less turn to hold them.

02.jpg

03.jpg

He moves to the left...alone.

04.jpg

Picks the ball with no incident.

05.jpg

A chaos playing pass play? What is this? You have four turns to score with a cage.
Instead, he starts bashing.

06.jpg

07.jpg

08.jpg

Aiyoh, jialat lah.

09.jpg

Lucky no long term injury, sure as hell won't apo him.

10.jpg

Finally!

Turn 6 - What's the rush?
01.jpg

Moving just one player into a scoring position makes it quite obvious what you're trying to achieve.

02.jpg

I decided to evac the fastest pieces to the back to avoid taking needless casualties. But in a hindsight, it was an error to open the left flank too much.

03.jpg

My 2D Blitz also resulted in nothing but a push.

04.jpg

05.jpg

It still looks fairly likely that he can just cage in and slowly make his way to the end zone.

06.jpg

07.jpg

Yeah, the marking was too weak. My bad.

08.jpg

09.jpg

10.jpg

11.jpg

W-why do this? Some teams aren't made to play a fast offense, but some coaches thinks it's possible to 'go fast' by moving the ball with a short pass. But there's no rush, as unskilled Chaos, he should just slowly cage forward within 3 turns instead of doing that. I can understand if it's turn 7.

And it failed.

Turn 7 - Lucky Seven?
01.jpg

Well, this is our best chance of blocking him. We gotta make sure his next play is severely clogged with tripwires and scoring would require long odds. I'm committing all the reserve rats at the back into the fray.

02.jpg

03.jpg

Hopefully, they will make the mistake of prioritizing bash and turnover early.

04.jpg

05.jpg

06.jpg

Another 2D block that ends with a lame push.

07.jpg

1D Blitz lah.

08.jpg

09.jpg

Sup?

10.jpg

Good, he's stuck now.

12.jpg

13.jpg

Mmmm...

14.jpg

15.jpg

16.jpg

Aww..come on...

17.jpg

Nope. Not gonna apo a 3 SPP rookie thrower. Back to Israel for you.
And with the bashing pleasantry over with, he goes for the ball and picks it up with no problem.

18.jpg

Shit, that goat is unmarked and just needs a few GFI to score... damn it, I screwed up big time guys...

19.jpg

:what:

He stops. Regaining his sanity at the last moment, and ....goes for it!

20.jpg

'That is a rather strange passing animation,' I thought to myself when it occured.

21.jpg

Except, he was trying a go-for-it to shorten pass distance. Turnover.
I'm not gonna waste this chance since he still has turn 8 to play with. I'm pulling out my ace card: Stompa!

22.jpg

23.jpg

Gets the ball!

24.jpg

Dodges out!

25.jpg

And fires it away!

26.jpg

The only beastman within picking distance dashes back, bends over to pick up the ball - ready to hurl it for one last hail mary, only to fumble the pick up.

27.jpg

The referee immediately blew the whistle for half time.

28.jpg

Return to Battle
01.jpg

Four down as we start the second half.

02.jpg

We march.

03.jpg

04.jpg

05.jpg

Ugh.

06.jpg

Enjoy the bash.

07.jpg

08.jpg

09.jpg

Disgusting shit.

11.jpg

They pick up the ball after the bash is over.

12.jpg

13.jpg

The numerical superiority coupled with being 1-0 down makes him play more aggressively.

14.jpg

15.jpg

Azira survives a 2D Blitz. It's time to play my turn.

16.jpg

Let's get a 2D block and make something happen.

17.jpg

18.jpg

Yeah, I'm gonna dodge out to get 2D blitz with MB.

19.jpg

And of course, I fail the dodge.

20.jpg

To early to reroll. Turn over.

Turn 10
01.jpg

He advances confidently on the left.

02.jpg

03.jpg

And proceeds to resume bashing after the ball movement is done.

04.jpg

2D Both Downs vs Stormvermin! He refuses to reroll.

05.jpg

06.jpg

Chance!

07.jpg

Let's mark a beast man first with the line fodder.

08.jpg

09.jpg

Then we crack open a hole with 1DB

10.jpg

11.jpg

Good.

12.jpg

Even better.

13.jpg

Yeah, long odds again. Get used to it. This is the best I can do. I told both Gutter Runner to get in there and either get the ball or hasten their scoring.

14.jpg

15.jpg

16.jpg

HA! Take that. Defender Down & Both Down vs Block Gutter Runner? Sucks to be you. :smug:

17.jpg

18.jpg

Oh FFS. Reroll!

19.jpg

Catch failed. Turn over.

That'll rattle him. Rerolled his last dice.

03.jpg

04.jpg

:rage:

06.jpg

6 v 11 now. Not looking good. Chaos Warrior picks up the ball. No issues.

07.jpg

08.jpg

Gotta stop him.

09.jpg

Just need a hole.

10.jpg

11.jpg

Made the hole. Let's break thru.

12.jpg

13.jpg

14.jpg

Not again. FFS! Reroll!

15.jpg

:yeah:

16.jpg

17.jpg

No more GFI to pick it up. Not safe at all.

02.jpg

03.jpg

Pushed away from the ball. Damn it.

04.jpg

05.jpg

I just don't have enough rats on the field.

06.jpg

The opposition then decides to try and score.

07.jpg

Success. He wastes no time to touch down.

08.jpg

09.jpg

A stalemate at turn 12. This is gonna get rough with just 6 rats.

01.jpg

KO player woke up. We've got seven on the field again. Both teams playing on with no team re-rolls remaining. This is gonna be a close one.

02.jpg

Kick-off result is favorable. Stompa gets to the end of the kick and catches the ball before running back.

03.jpg

04.jpg

Gonna go one direction in this offense, punch hole and flood through.

05.jpg

06.jpg

Good start, it's now 7 rats v 10. Going to switch one line rat to the right flank.

07.jpg

Dodged successfully and I end my turn.

Downfall responds accordingly and meet the rats head on.

09.jpg

Even the minotaur succeeded a go-for-it check...despite not blitzing.

10.jpg

11.jpg

12.jpg

13.jpg

14.jpg

And we're down another two rats next turn.

15.jpg

Finally the block dice gave way and end their turn.

16.jpg

01.jpg

Let's back away some more.

02.jpg

1D Blocks all day, every day.

03.jpg

04.jpg

Wonderful.

05.jpg

Azira is lucky there wasn't a blitz on him. Else the dodging would've been harder.
He slips off with no problem and the stormvermins continue their 1D blocks.

06.jpg

07.jpg

The beastman can actually blitz Azira, but I'm counting on Blodge.

However, instead of pressing for the receiver - the Downfall rushes towards the Stompa the launcher.

09.jpg

10.jpg

I'm okay with this. But, shouldn't you get at least one dude on the tackle zone with 2 GFI?
But they're happy with that, and resume 2D bashing.

11.jpg

12.jpg

13.jpg

That's enough of that.

01.jpg

We got 2D Block somehow.

02.jpg

03.jpg

Mighty Blow putting in work. Let's free Azira.

04.jpg

05.jpg

Only a push, but it's sufficient for a worry-free catch. Erecting marker rats before launch...

06.jpg

Let's go.

07.jpg

08.jpg

09.jpg

10.jpg

No problems. Let's go!

11.jpg

Wait, that'll corner him. Go left instead.

The Downfall's response to the pass completion is pretty strange, if you're actually playing for a result. Instead of devoting a man to the ball carrier who is clear to score, he decides to just bash the other rats

14.jpg

15.jpg

16.jpg

18.jpg

19.jpg

Nuffle didn't seem to reward him.

01.jpg

Just gonna edge closer to TD and delay it for turn 16.

02.jpg

Just gonna dodge Stompa out here, for an assist.

03.jpg

04.jpg

Blitz didn't deliver much for a knockdown, not gonna stay in contact since we're scoring on next turn.

Their last turn and they don't regard stopping the score as something important.

07.jpg

08.jpg

09.jpg

11.jpg

Just mindless violence. We're just going to score on next turn.

12.jpg

13.jpg

14.jpg

Quite an unsatisfying match, but at least we went past the loss of three regulars.

15.jpg

16.jpg

17.jpg

The winnings are good this time.

18.jpg

19.jpg

And the change in how journeymen recruiting is great, now they add the cash prize first before going into the recruiting stage.

20.jpg

Since this rat stole the MVP, I decided to recruit him for a cheap price of 50,000 gold.

21.jpg

:hmm:

22.jpg

Awful match in terms of bashing. Let's hope I don't meet another Chaos. And nobody leveled up. It was THAT boring.

Hey stopped by to check out your AAR. Looks pretty good so far. At the end I didnt attack your guy cause there is no way I could catch you and I wouldnt have enough time to score. So my thinking was I would give you the option of letting your rats get pounded on or you could score faster to stop it and then I might have a chance to draw it again. Thanks for the good game and I hope you luck in the future.
