That thread is dangerously high spergin' level
That's why it's perfect!
Hmm, guys, I have kind of dumb question. Battletech is system of games, while MegaMek is some kind of game? I'm kind of retarded now.
MegaMek is just automated client to play BattleTech. You don't have to keep track of damage on countless number of paper sheets, roll all the dice or even exactly remember all the specific rules. Playing that battle in traditional way with figures would take me hours (not to mention I would have to find someone to play against) and I would probably make some rules mistakes along the way, not to mention I'm playing with tons of optional extra rules that add even more depth.
Oh and if by some chance you do get your hands on Phoenix Hawk LAM Id like to pilot that mech only.
Can't do that. Even if I find one it's going to be exactly like regular mech. LAM's are not coded into MegaMek yet.

Ulminati you will be put on waiting list. Next mechwarrior we hire, that's gonna be you. You will be piloting whatever we will have available and you're going to like it.

I want to talk bit more about our first battle. Even though we won by completely destroying enemy force that wasn't actual goal of this mission. All we had to do is to get 50% of our forces to the northern edge of map. If you were wondering where that red mech went, well that's what it was doing.

Mini map:
UfdmV4s.png

In practice our mechs never went beyond bottom 1/3. We didn't really have a choice here, the problem was the heavy. It arrived late and it is too slow to escape with faster mechs anyway. It would be taking fire all the way to the northern edge, if it even got that far.
Our options were to stay and fight or to throw the fatass to the wolves. We can't afford to do second option. It did turn out way better than we could hope for though. The way we killed both of their mediums was really lucky stuff.

Actually even if we decided to kill them all with more mobile lance we could take advantage of it. Make a run for it so their fast units like hovercraft and light jump jetting mechs get separated from their heavy hitters like Thunderbolt and then kill them one at a time.

This mission very neatly shows why our current setup is not particularly suited for scouting contracts. Once we get more mechs we'll set them up in dedicated lances so we don't end up deploying wrong mech for the job.

Damage report time.

Cataphract, Phoenix Hawk and Shadow Hawk just need some armour replacements and ammo refills where applicable. Easy peasy. Our mechanics shouldn't have much problems with that even in a field workshop.

Jenner unfortunately will need replacement for upper leg actuator. It's cheap part and readily available, problem is we don't have any parts for our mechs in the cargo. We put an order on two of them (it's cheap and we might need another one in the future) and first one will arrive in 34 days. Can't really do anything about it right now. We'll just have to wait and hope borked leg won't be big problem.

Corsairs will need little work on armour and reloads for SRM's. Unfortunately Corsair piloted by Tindrli had his sensors damaged by lucky hit. Replacement part is fairly pricey at 100000 C-Bills and we can't get those anywhere right now anyway. You'll just have to manage.

If you're wondering what we got for salvage. Here it is:

OGVhgEK.png

Ain't she a beaut?

Sure few holes in the armour and such but that's easy to fix. More importantly other than missing head (and all the bobs and bits that go into it) it's in perfect condition. It will cost us something below 600000 C-Bills to get it up and running. Installing head itself might prove challenging for our technicians though. We'll have to make sure to book some nice workshop with cranes and all that heavy duty equipment to help out.

Otherwise though? Should be well worth the investment. We manage to find and order most of the needed parts.

Doctor "Azira" MacDougal fixes up hurt pilots right away.

Mechanics need just 2 days to fix up everything they can right now (we'll have to wait for replacement parts for Jenner and Corsair) and even start some work on the new Hawk.

We've got another assignment lined up for 25th. More about that in next update.

After reading it again I decided I'm not entirely satisfied with my previous combat update. Which means I decided to do things bit differently this time. Instead of giving you general shot of whole thing followed with write up for whole round I tried to focus more on individual areas, hopefully this will be easier to digest and less confusing as to what is exactly happening. I've spent more time and effort doing this one so I'd like to receive some feedback on how you like it compared to first update.

It's 25th and it's time to change scenery a bit. This time our job is to probe their defences. It's very early, sun just started rising over horizon. There is light fog in the air.

Area this time is much more open.

wsk7GoX.png

Don't you worry that Wasp is still with us. He's in thicket just north of us.

PyNIYzA.png

Suddenly our radars light up with multiple sensor returns approaching from the east. Looks like they were expecting us.

Pair of fast missile armed hover crafts and sprinting Phoenix Hawk close in on us instantly leaving dust clouds behind them.

nKD64Th.png

We can also see Wolverine and medium tank further away.

MH0Gshq.png

Both sides start firing their weapons but most shots miss their mark.

"Servant" stays back to deal with flanking Maxim, carefully takes her aim and shoots. With loud crackling sound intense bright blue beam streaks out of the barrel and hits speeding hover craft. It wobbles a bit and dives right into the ground. Looks like its engine is dead.

CyHEF8r.png

Phoenix Hawk manages to jump behind "Lights Out" but rest of the team reacts immediately and surrounds him. He proves hard to hit and despite focused fire his armour holds up. "Don" and house officer in Wasp team up to take down that Hawk at close range.

Agile Wasp gets behind him and kicks his left leg taking off some armour plates. He tries to defend himself but Cataphract easily takes his kick and responds in kind. Blow is so powerful it just rips the whole leg out of the socket (critical hit baby).

Phoenix Hawk pilot tries to stop his fall with his mech's left arm that was previously damaged by our weapons fire. Its shoulder gives out and he smashes his medium laser in the process.

ctDulho.png

Some shots are fired at us from the south. Looks like there is more of them.

7tLkGst.png

They didn't show up on sensors before, must have been running passive. Oh, dear I think they were trying to ambush us. I believe Commander Boreale would call such people "bold and foolish", or was it "bald"? Never mind.

Immobilized Maxim is abandoned by its crew. Enemy Phoenix tries to stand up on its remaining leg to escape but looses balance, rolls over and falls flat on its back. Seems like pilot got knocked out from the impact.

"Lights Out" uses jump jets to join Shadow Hawk in the thicket in the back. Cataphract stays to hold the line against approaching enemies.

"Serrated Biz" sees good opportunity to get behind approaching Griffin and takes it. Gives it good kick in the leg but it's not enough to trip it over. Shots start flying in its direction but even with damaged leg Jenner is too fast for them to hit.

MSwxxfu.png

Our fire support arrives.

XcuuzL2.png

Upon closer examination by mechanics we found out damage to the sensors was more serious than we initially believed and until we can fix that "Tindrli" will have to stay grounded (I'm not sure what happened here frankly, it looked fine during previous battle but now he just can't hit anything, maybe it's the fog? I don't know, I'd have to dive into rulebooks to find out and I'm too lazy for that). Which means only "Grey Viper" arrives.

He does a pass over second Maxim and hits with both lasers and 5 out of 6 missiles. Good shooting.

Hunchback and second Vedette stay in the back to provide fire support with their auto cannons.

Enemies nicely line up for us and "Grey Viper" goes for bombing run. About half of the bombs miss. Vedette and Maxim take some damage to their movement systems. Wolverine gets hit with 2 bombs and staggers from the explosions however pilot manages to keep it upright.

lOMqc0k.png

After its little escapade Jenner turns around and runs back to the team to avoid getting swarmed by approaching enemies. Cataphract gets absolutely hosed with missiles and autocannon fire, most of which fortunately misses. LRM's from Hunchback in the back ignite the trees.

abFeozP.png

"Lights Out" seizes opportunity and strikes enemy vehicles from a flank. He hits Maxim with large laser and then stomps it into the ground injuring the driver. "Don" hits Wolverine with AC/10 and PPC in torso, armour manages to hold up for now.

CgROuHV.png

Smoke from burning trees is starting to get really thick. "Don" steps out of the fire to avoid overheating. He immediately gets rushed by Griffin and Vedette which he kicks causing some serious damage.

N6byLxw.png

(Cataphract is in the highlighted square with Vedette)

He gets pounded by Hunchback with accurate LRM and AC fire. He also gets kicked by Griffin in already damaged leg. Last bits of armour fall off. Any further damage will go right into internal structure.

"Servant" has hard time hitting her shots through the thick smoke.

lBX0BN0.png

Phoenix Hawk starts moving, looks like sleeping princess finally woke up. "Serrated Biz" rushes in and before it can do anything crushes to bits its remaining leg.

lQmUAlk.png

With both legs missing and in generally sorry state it's completely useless now. Pilot decides to ditch it before it becomes his coffin.

"Grey Viper" notices that Hunchback has been standing still in the back for a while now, just taking its sweet time to aim. We can't let him do that, now can we? He swings his fighter around points his nose at the mech, carefully aims and shoots his lasers.

Direct blow to the head!

Laser easily melts the armour and damages cockpit directly which triggers automatic ejection system.

SCozVZz.png

We have obtained exclusive footage of that Hunchback pilot as he was getting ejected out of his mech:

zjxrie5ljfnmbvznhdqh.jpg

DivqIO8.png

"Don" backs out of the smoke to regroup and get clearer picture of current situation. Griffin jumps out of the smoke right after him but goes past him straight for Shadow Hawk. Damn this guy is out for blood. What the hell.

"Serrated Biz" runs in to support. Jumping Griffin is hard to hit and most of our shots miss him. Jenner manages to land a kick. "Servant" notices right torso on Griffin doesn't have any armour plating left and swings her fists at it. One punch lands however on the left side.

Griffin kicks back and strips most of the armour on Hawk's left leg.

7j9Ce77.png

Corsair makes another attack run. Hits Vedette with all 6 short range missiles and blows up its engine. "Grey Viper" is on a roll today.

That FedCom idiot in Wasp can't read the situation and stays in the thick of it by himself.

oofA8GN.png

Griffin jumps back into smoke as fast as it came from it. It sends parting volley of missiles and PPC shot at Shadow Hawk hitting it in the same leg it kicked before. Armour is completely gone and now our technicians will have to fix up what's normally underneath it. Let's hope it doesn't get hit in that leg any more.

Wolverine goes straight for Wasp and easily smashes its left leg with a kick sending it to eat dirt. We have no choice but to rush in to help. "Grey Viper" does a pass on Wolverine and hits with both lasers, armour holds up. Unfortunately we can't risk dropping bombs for the off chance one hits the FedCom officer.

zpi3Nac.png

Fucking hell. Vedette pounds that Wasp with its AC/5 and manages to detonate ammo. Whole thing just disintegrates. Good news is that auto ejection system worked in time and FedCom officer survived, hopefully we can convince higher ups it's not our fault he trashed his ride. Explosion is big enough to damage nearby units.

"Don" and "Servant" try to go around the smoke but still can't get visual on anything. "Serrated Biz" doesn't have that problem and lands all his 4 lasers on Wolverine blowing through remaining armour on right torso.

"Lights Out" fires at the back of Griffin but armour just about holds up. He tries to go for a kick but misses and nearly falls over.

"Grey Viper" scores more shots on Wolverine but it's still not enough to bring it down. Tough bastard.

WInIrXI.png

Griffin again jumps right into us. This time he pays for it with a leg. Cataphract leaves it with 1 internal structure point left and Jenner finishes it off with its own kick. Griffin falls flat on its face.

Meanwhile Wolverine and remaining tank go the other way around and run into Shadow Hawk. Well, sheeeit.

CEI3neo.png

Luckily none of their shots land.

Seeing his buddy is in trouble Wolverine turns and jumps into the melee. Tank now left by itself decides to back off.

CPVBDuh.png

"Servant" takes careful aim at Griffin and hits it in the back with PPC. It goes right through the armour and detonates ammunition. ... :negative:

Phoenix Hawk, Cataphract and Wolverine are hit with explosion. Wolverine shoots Cataphract with a laser in exposed leg and scores critical on foot. He manages to stay up.

They exchange kicks. "Don" comes of bit better in the trade and barely manages to save himself from falling over. Wolverine looses balance and falls on its back.

They both stand up. Wolverine backs off from the heavy.

cWDTLaY.png

Wolverine takes a lot of hits from our fire, even large laser hit on the head courtesy of "Lights Out". It gets pounded into scrap but somehow manages to avoid any critical damage.

"Servant" sniping from the back gets good hit on the leg with PPC. It gets destroyed and gravity sends Wolverine for another close encounter with ground. All that damage starts to catch up with the pilot which nearly blacks out.

"Serrated Biz" and "Lights Out" jump on it and start pounding it with their feet.

"Grey Viper" attacks Vedette but scores only one laser hit.

ZsU72pV.png

Wolverine pilot decides to call it quits and ejects. There is only Vedette left.

Large laser hit seals the deal. Kill credit goes to "Lights Out".

As the battle wraps up fire finally goes out.

The new style makes it easier to focus on the actual action, though I kinda miss seeing the most important rolls. Not like seeing them is that important if you keep telling us about any critical hits and their effects and any piloting or consciousness rolls.

As for the action taking place in the update, that air support was glorious. Nice mosh pits too. Looking forward to the salvage and repairs.

Great battle report, very fun to read. Somehow I imagine my pilot humming "Danger Zone" theme in his head while closing for kill. Also that Wolverine was certainly the star of this battle, to bad he was one the other side. And I think we have Hunchback now, more dakka is good.

I do hope our Cataphract gets fixed up, that warhorse has been earning its pay quite well.

That was quite chaotic... But awesome indeed :incline:

So far both wins looked pretty convincing. I'd say we got pretty lucky not to suffer more serious damage.

Let me introduce you to BV : http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Battle_Value . It's not perfect system. For instance I feel vehicles (especially the lighter ones) are not quite worth their BV even with all the extra rules I'm using to make them less vulnerable to critical hits and whatnot. Still it offers decent way to compare two different forces.

In first battle our unit came at 7352 points (plus 330 points for the tag along officer in light mech but he didn't do anything there, even get shot at so..). Enemies had 9293 points that unlike our force was in it's entirety on board turn 1. Bot might not be the best player but generally I would expect to loose with that kind of difference. We didn't even take all that much damage really.

In second battle we had 6023 points vs 7183. We took more damage but still all in all great result. From now on I'll be giving you those values after every battle.

Again we took only single piece for our share of salvage. It's quite a piece though.

37zAP8S.png

Wow, let me tell you that headshot was pure bullshit. It destroyed precisely all the armour on head and not one point more. It's not even damaged! We just need to replace critted cockpit and small laser and slap some armour plates on it. Just above 220 000 C-Bills worth of stuff.

Compared to market price of brand new HBK-4N which comes at 3 437 125 C-Bills that's nothing.

Damage report:

Phoenix Hawk, Jenner and Shadow Hawk are fixed without problems and are fully operational on next day. Cataphract requires a lot more work, especially broken right leg. It requires 4 attempts and over a week to finally get it right. There still is problem with the foot, it will have to wait for replacement parts though.

We order all the needed parts, including aerospace sensors which we couldn't find previously. We also replenish our armour plate stockpile a bit. That leaves us low on C-Bills. Fortunately we get our pay check for the month on 1st March.

Sign ups:

We hired new mechwarrior. We don't have functional ride for him yet but when skilled veteran shows up I'm going to snatch him right away.

Ulminati:

With that kind of piloting skill we might be looking at melee specialist here.

It's 9th of march. We're ordered to attack and cripple Free Worlds League company that very much like us is snooping around in the area. Higher ups are concerned they are trying to sniff out our base of operations and want them dealt with ASAP.

Attack will be carried out during night to mitigate their numbers advantage. Should be easy enough since they mostly use lighter units.

First things first though we need to find them. We split up to scan the area for their whereabouts.

Here we can see Jenner in it's natural habitat.

DjZaFYJ.png

Hmm.. but what's that?

ctDu0TI.png

Let's find out!

sTxjqYK.png

(Hey I finally remembered to use all those lore accurate camo patterns I downloaded! Yes, they do look silly.)

Looks like "Serrated Biz" found some of their scouts. Predictably fight breaks out.

Surprised Wasps miss their shots (it's very dark, we both need like 10-12 on 2d6 to hit here). Jenner hits with medium laser. These scouts barely have any armour on and just single hit is enough to burn through all of it on right arm.

Wasp gets kicked in right leg. It already looks like it's about to break at any time. Those things are pretty fragile. Definitely not built for proper fight.

Enemy tries to respond with a kick but "Serrated Biz" moves out of way just in time and it misses. Impressively enough after all that Wasp pilot manages to keep balance.

F75hR9l.png

"Serrated Biz" easily gets behind him to go in for the kill. He misses with lasers but lands another kick. Left leg this time. One more kick and this guy is guaranteed to go down.

Other Wasp however gets behind Jenner and reminds "Serrated Biz" it's 2 on 1 with solid medium laser hit and a kick. Jenner goes down! Fuck.

Cuk0xnH.png

Wasp with busted legs decides to withdraw and no doubt tell his buddies about whole situation. "Serrated Biz" takes his time to stand up, he needs to be careful with that broken upper leg actuator.

While he's doing that remaining Wasp hits him with missiles but armour can take it.

Jenner may not have arms suited for helping with standing up but they do have nice feature, they can be flipped around to target behind it. Feature which "Serrated Biz" demonstrates. Of course all 4 shots miss..

Another kick comes swinging and Jenner goes down again. Goddamnit. At least this time he doesn't hit the ground.

QDyLA91.png

Jenner gets up again and manages to get behind Wasp but doesn't land any shots.

The other guy is about to leave the area. Too late to catch him now.

nmF0Oha.png

More missed shots on both sides. Exciting, isn't it?

tO4mGnx.png

They hit each other with medium laser each.

9TI8MmH.png

Finally something happened! "Serrated Biz" lands a kick scoring critical hit on foot and lower leg. This guy isn't getting up.

XHpOad6.png

He gets up. Gets behind Jenner. Hits with missiles, hits with kick. Because of course he does.

Jenner once again lands on solid ground.

E1g6uKa.png

"Serrated Biz" struggles to get his machine up again. He manages to score a hit with laser but receives yet another kick in return.

5RijAIU.png

He finally stands up. Wasp circles around him trying to score more hits but he misses.

r557m9Y.png

Jenner can't shake off that annoying bug. He again hits with missiles. Damage starts to pile up..

He goes for another kick but misses again. However this time he looses balance and falls.

gnJR7cK.png

This turns out to be costly mistake. Panicked pilot tries to get his machine up. He succeeds on third try but gets knocked down again with a kick from Jenner.

Pilot blacks out.

SoZOmFb.png

Now motionless mech is easy target and "Serrated Biz" finishes it off with single salvo from his lasers.

Knights of The Codex are not done with work for the night though. More in the next (proper) update (which should be more interesting than this).

I'll go order takeout, so the rest of us basepersonnel can have a snack while the pilots make sure we have work to do, eh?

After exhausting fight "Serrated Biz" calls up base and asks them to send salvage team. While he waits for trucks to arrive he kills time by interrogating captured pilot.
New information helps us pin point their location however with all the new holes in the armour Jenner is in no shape to get into another fight. Rest of the team will have to manage by themselves while he escorts trucks back to base.

OW7kpp3.png

We deploy with new officer. Previous fella got hurt pretty badly when his mech blew up and currently resides in hospital.

We spot them right away on the other side of the hill.

a3Ct2Hn.png

"Grey Viper" makes 2 loops around the area and spots whole lot more of them.

0BXt7UI.png

3 light scout mechs, another Hunchback, bunch of tanks. Only thing I'm concerned about are these 2 fuckers.

9t9yv6t.png

There is pretty big reason for that: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Autocannon/20

Even one hit can ruin your day and I'm not talking about super lucky headshots.

Time to hunt.

aW9IrmT.png

We get in position.

bvsTDFV.png

Let's just say I will look for contracts with liaison at most in the future (or just kick the bot and control attached units myself).

YGzGDVU.png

Shadow Hawk and Cataphract focus their fire on Hetzer. They both hit with PPC (http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Particle_Projector_Cannon).

"Don" scores critical hit on AC/20! That's half of the serious threats gone already.

The+feels+good+meme+_8904f29d2eee2a25fa6c458fba1f8cfb.png

Wasp tries to be cheeky and kicks Cataphract in shins but that just doesn't do much. You'll need heavier mech mate.

NJBJt0H.png

Phoenix Hawk jumps into the fray to help Locust.

Dynamic entry proves to be extremely effective and Stinger finds itself missing one leg after single kick. I can already feel this is going to be a massacre.

RkTKnT0.png

"Don" annoyed with bunny-hopping Wasp puts AC/10 round through it's leg breaking it completely.

Just keep it on.

YBLWAAs.png

"Lights Out" jumps back and shoots Hunchback with medium lasers. "Grey Viper" makes attack run but doesn't score any hits. It's pretty dark after all.

Hunchback tries to shoot "Servant" but she neatly uses hill and trees for cover and avoids almost all damage. "Lights Out" also kicks Hunchback in right torso.

ooPzrxs.png

Saladin hits Locust in the leg with AC/20, luckily it's a glancing hit into dense tree cover and the leg just hangs on with single point of internal structure.

27OqVsK.png

After several tries to get his one legged mech to stand pilot of Stinger finally gives up and abandons his mech.

exEvdDi.png

Wasp actually manages this feat but apparently all he learned at military academy is how to bunny hop. Predictably he botches his landing. "Grey Viper" misses more shots, not your night to shine buddy.

nmUuauV.png

"Don" shoots at Hunchback but misses his shots and ignites forest with his lasers instead. What would Smokey the Bear say about that?

lz0Y2jF.png

Hunchback tries to kick "Servant" but it goes wide causing it to loose balance. Our pilot doesn't seem to take kindly to that kind of half-assed challenge.

1rUlwlP.png

Dayyum, girl what are you planning to do with that?

Meanwhile Locust decides to get itself out of tight spot it put itself into. "Lights Out" jumps right next to LRM boat sitting in the back and kicks it.

TzaIXXZ.png

Saladin really wants that Locust dead and follows it everywhere. Just between us, better him than us. Locust ends up in the same group of trees it was before. Cataphract runs (slowly) at last remaining functional light mech they have and crushes it's leg with a kick.

Another one bites the dust!

xBAHOM9.png

"Grey Viper" finally scores some shots on Hunchback but most of the damage is mitigated by trees.

Hunchback gets up, opens up on Shadow Hawk but most shots go wide. Are you sure you want to fire all your weapons standing in that forest fire?

jmt5VXF.png

"Servant" responds with PPC and hits right in centre torso.

Then this happens:
hbXIuKT.png

KLQIB.gif

Meanwhile on another part of the map "Lights Out" is still busy kicking that Hetzer.

btnkETt.png

Nicely lit up Hunchback proves to be easy target and Corsair scores more hits. "Servant" gets behind it, shoots it with PPC in right leg and kicks it in the left. One of those legs is sure to give out pretty soon.

LxvZE2p.png

"Light Out" decides to switch targets and jumps behind Saladin. He scores laser hit but misses kick.

W7HxtFg.png

"Don" keeps firing at already prone Stinger and destroys its remaining leg with AC/10.

Apparently that doesn't satiate his blood lust and he steps on its torso. His foot goes right through it to the ground completely destroying left torso and detaching left arm from the rest of the mech (rest of the damage transfers to central torso and leaves it with 1 point of internal structure).

Damn it "Don" you sick bastard it's already dead. Stop hitting it!

r5V3RSl.png

Hunchback finally steps out of flames. He kicks Shadow Hawk but it's just a glancing hit and she easily takes it. He gets kicked in return. Critical hit on upper left leg and foot, 2 internal structure points remaining.

He falls down aaand that leg is gone completely.

y008fgk.png

Saladin can't loose Phoenix Hawk and he finishes it off with lasers and machine guns.

Rqcxz77.png

Remaining light mech pilots eject from their rides finally realizing it's no use to struggle any further in their legless machines.

Time to mop up.

rnlQUst.png

Shadow Hawk kicks prone Hunchback which triggers ammo explosion. It's not very big but remaining armour on right leg gets destroyed. I guess mechanics have to earn their pay too ...

83DT3Me.png

"Lights Out" destroys Harasser with single large laser shot. Pretty hard to pull off at night.

"Don" hits Scorpion with AC/10.

pV6FQv8.png

Back to regular program for Phoenix Hawk.

R5Oz6ch.png

Cataphract and Shadow Hawk shoot up remaining tanks.

"Grey Viper" hits fleeing Hetzer (one with broken AC/20) with missiles.

Locust is still somehow alive, maybe this guy is better than I initially gave him credit for, naah. Must be dumb luck.

RIjkPNw.png

Stop running away you bastard, I just want to kick you!

tdv4yE8.png

Shadow Hawk destroys engine on Vedette. Cataphract turns around to fire at Galleon. Front armour is all gone. Needs just one more hit.
