So I want to try a new way of doing this. Rather than me commenting on every screenshot without knowing whether or not anyone actually gives a fuck, I'm just going to leave this pile of images here (though I did discard the ones I thought would be redundant or particularly uninteresting.) If anyone wants to know what is going on in an image, quote it or just ask about it and then I'll give some details. I figure this has 2 main advantages.

A: I don't waste my time or yours by writing shit you already knew or didn't care about.
B: Which images people ask about gives me a better idea of what people are interested in.

We'll see how it works out, and depending on interest/response this'll either continue this way, get turned into a more normal format of LP, or just outright die.

I used to really like this game though I never got a ship/weaponry capable of handling the late-game systems. How's it been shaping up? Any cool mods?

Well, the mods I'm using right now add branching/interlocking systems (as well as additional systems iirc) to make things less linear. I'm also using one that lets you purchase drone ships, repair wrecked ships for use as drones, and most importantly, trade ships with said drones so you can upgrade from your dinky yacht into a kickass battlecruiser. Theres some interesting ones in the works as well, one of which seems to be geared towards making the items and enemies procedurally generated as well. Along with tons of convenience type mods like the one I'm using which tracks the average price you've paid for anything you've bought, which makes trading stuff a bit easier. Theres some mods to make the black market deeper too, and mods for better/deeper mining. I don't think anyone has really made stuff for going past the current 'end' of the game though, which is a shame.

I'll link to them in a bit, because the answer to question 2 is that I'm putting it together right now (this time with some commentary.)

Had to wait on uploading more images anyways, so heres those mods:

Non linear systems: http://xelerus.de/index.php?s=mod&id=1340
Ship drones/swapping: http://xelerus.de/index.php?s=mod&id=1386 (Note that you also need the libraries of ships to use with this, I just used the ones from the main game, in the first link. It's split into 15 (small) downloads though.
Trade assistant: http://xelerus.de/index.php?s=mod&id=1403
Useful item screens (they won't auto exit after using repair paste when you have more, for example. Note that this has crashed my game a few times.): http://xelerus.de/index.php?s=mod&id=1273

Aaaand here's the update. As I mentioned, this one has some commentary. It was a pain in the ass though, it took longer to write up then it did to play, and I really felt like playing more of this.

ODfNnBs.png

Just repairing some hull damage.
pyUE555.png

The fuel bar is actually flashing right now, I missed it on the next screenshot too. But it's quite low.
UQEC5R8.png

Disabling everything except engines will help us make it to the nearest fuel supply.
Fn85oX1.png

Beyond a certain threshold armour can't be repaired. At least not this way.
IKMY9yu.png

Well shit.
wrblno6.png

This is a good reason to avoid using barrels with unidentified substances inside to try repair your ship.
fksbypx.png

Fortunately this mining colony was willing to decontaminate us. For a fee.
kRTSZR1.png

They can't repair our armour either however.
VwDsCS4.png

Well, time for an upgrade then.
hrlQmNG.png

And another.
mr33RPD.png

This one was long overdue.
pCX7pj1.png

More ass kicking.
AVBo33m.png

8S0pHP5.png

Always happy to find new ROM cards.
yeBXRk1.png

A cookie to anyone who hasn't played before that can actually spot the enhancement. (You might need to look at later screenshots.)
GbBkFyR.png

Oh, cool. Never used this before.
1Bgr9M9.png

Free weapons always nice.
90UJJeG.png

I meant to take more screenshots here, I guess I forgot in the chaos. These guys are significantly stronger.
rLqFCPv.png

Though that should be obvious from our shields and hull.
uBaFOwn.png

Well, more practice repairing hull is good.
mdbXNrJ.png

Reinforcements arrived while we waited for shields to regenerate.
GMi1xLj.png

This is what the little ships were firing at us. It adds up fast. The range is too short for a decent weapon for us though.
Xfb1oNe.png

And this thing is what the station was firing. Also pretty strong. Much longer range too. Pity it's broken. The next weapon down isn't too shabby either, but it's not really good enough to warrant ditching anything we have.
c2mPjGj.png

VXFGE1q.png

XlFMD3v.png

xymH5oE.png

Buy a few more missiles.
cPnS9KG.png

And an upgrade to our main weapon.
P8xQ8qk.png

When exploring new systems, often the best way to find friendly stations is to follow traffic leaving the gate you just came out of. Or any non hostile traffic, really.
d3Iz866.png

Oops, finger slipped...
vLClGf3.png

New type of station for us. A cool one, too.
p1sNOSl.png

Another aspect of the game there are probably some really cool mods for. I think one lets you build your own weapons. (As in, custom effects, designed in game.)
7qlo15G.png

The weapons for sale are generally not very useful, though they do occasionally serve a purpose.
kkqxbDo.png

The armour for sale, on the other hand...
APtVU8u.png

An excellent bargain. We could actually sell this armour for a profit later.
DcX370J.png

This is the cool part though.
sORkKqV.png

Would love to have me one of these. (Our current laser hits for 1/8th that much damage fyi, though it's a bit faster firing rate.)
i0PRGKo.png

We'll make a note just to be sure.
iqb79Rg.png

Another fun option. Pity we only have 5 barrels. The stuff isn't super rare though, we can probably get more.
RFagW4A.png

These are... really good.
xROAQjc.png

dMJMSsX.png

Lots of cool armour too, all of it pre enhanced with various cool effects. Actually, we already have some of that lanthanum glass from earlier...
21byTjD.png

Another station. Nice to find so many of these, they can be annoyingly rare in some games. We'll grab these missiles; the tracking component can be incredibly helpful, since even if you can direct fire missiles accurately, they can be shot down by enemy fire. So indirect shots are more useful.
GFvBsfe.png

Some of that ore we need.
3xxdHe4.png

Our shiny new weapon.
ULUex1C.png

Though it requires actually aiming, unlike the omni directional laser.
tilZRM1.png

Can't argue with firepower though.
RdD7pcu.png

Showing off some missiles too.
F1Ohdu9.png

Jackpot.
jiucNNo.png

The drones defending these illegal mining operations are hardly a threat to us.
G0VMujr.png

Another lucky find.
7OkpREe.png

10% isn't that good, but we probably won't be using anything else for a while, so any little bit is good.
YG3gsqm.png

I didn't buy the ore earlier, so I only have enough for 2 segments here. Still, that might be enough.
uxv043i.png

cIksxfy.png

Lets try our new armour out...
E5AxpSL.png

Oh yeah, thats the stuff. We won't need to refuel until we get another major reactor upgrade.
2F9iJ7V.png

More ore, I don't feel like making more segments, but I'll keep some on hand in case we need to replace it.
kza4dVw.png

An interestiing find. Heavy as fuck.
QElDPwm.png

Another interesting find.
P7x47EB.png

Getting better at this shit. When we started we damaged the hull half the time.
Siqb1cw.png

Iv02NYg.png

LdZdMhy.png

HwRL89f.png

More new enemies, these ones aren't so tough though.
SWYjpbM.png

Planets are another good place to check out when looking for stations in an uncharted system.
aTMW2vQ.png

Though not necessarily friendly stations.
YqmbQez.png

Outlaws frequently have drugs on station, much more often than pirates.
FtQnkh2.png

Just gonna...
sYZeM6d.png

No sir officer, they were there when I got here...
UAP6L0A.png

Of course, I could have ditched these too, just wanted to show the message off. There's also an event that can occur when you try to sell them, but that one tends to result in a game over.
U3RgzLr.png

Pick these back up...
NUuimYP.png

b9dtleb.png

y28YSHw.png

Remember this place?
JyV3Nad.png

c0yup57.png

Smooth...
VdlTQ1x.png

MSoxwri.png

2uL9b9u.png

yxr5WjH.png

Oh, you can dock with all sorts of stuff too, not just stations and wrecks. These gates aren't actually human tech, feeble 'mans haven't figured out FTL tech yet. (This applies to the weapons too, the lasers actually move at 1c, and if you mod yout ship to move at a similar speed (or use certain, generally very crappy, weapons), stuff starts to get... weird.
qkeJYVX.png

A cool looking system.
D2PxQ1o.png

A fuel station! Did I show these before?
TuMoeXk.png

We don't need the fuel, but sometimes they carry system mapping software, which is obviously very useful.
ZmgjseX.png

Why hello there...
jxN104Q.png

Shall we try our hands at... piracy?
tNMdfI2.png

The escorts seem to dissaprove.
Pul0yav.png

However, they are beneath our fists (and shields, and tech level in general.)
el6iQzk.png

Lets see what we've earned...
WxqfxAd.png

Well now...
YxYOeXJ.png

Quite a rare find, especially intact.
W7BqWLG.png

Though I knew this ship was carrying illegal goods.
LXcjUQP.png

Following this one will illustrate why. Do note that most actual factions will get pissed at you for pirating their shit, I'd advise against pirating corporate stations, for example, despite the fact that you could potentially steal all their shit, plus the shit you just sold to them.
c2K3xL0.png

And here we find the friendly transport's destination.
uxnmAXF.png

The destination itself being not so friendly (this was not because of our piracy, these are simply enemies.)
v7K36Yt.png

8IlGNri.png

IZp0EtG.png

And then they return to a normal colony station.
Better not let this little gem get confiscated.
VeM3Zyi.png

qd30e8l.png

Shockingly, the colony is unwilling to pay us much for what we can only describe as a really cool looking starship device.
nLa0CP2.png

Miners hold is a good deal though.
7SXeQ2b.png

Ooh, and they have a neat toy in stock. We'll use this later. Mostly cause I immediately forgot I bought this.
KZYWOBd.png

Sell this dead weight off too, though I'll show them off first.
JvQPbC4.png

eNK2jLC.png

56PtneA.png

D1uhnUg.png

Neat huh?
axniNAe.png

They're pretty much indestructible to our crappy mining laser, and can come in handy for certain missions (like protecting a station from enemies.)
FzWRBi8.png

vjPWdbT.png

pEL9YcF.png

cUrmBad.png

hTQFNkU.png

And another new station...
pqoVgUY.png

Take me to the boss! I got important drug stuff to sell!
XEnX1hx.png

Damn, it works in the movies...
6XuXx4k.png

YamR2Yt.png

Eh, we already have one though. Just need someone to install it.
HJ2B6Vq.png

Well, if the black market isn't for selling drugs, then what is for sale?
yXrUjbh.png

Hot damn. That may seem like a piddly amount of damage for that price, but it's thermo damage. My shields and armour don't show their penalty vs thermo damage, but if they did, it'd be a real nasty one.
cZN4eqN.png

And here we have the main buffet.
K6H8UDf.png

Most of which now belongs to us.
SnQ29Ja.png

Lets go find a buyer.
MGb1JLy.png

a8rqowi.png

Seemed like too obnoxiously large and dense a system to manually explore. Alas, what we want is not here.
3YeoWa7.png

Fk0H9Yq.png

Oh yeah, I never came back and collected my fee. Must have forgotten after getting filthy rich from that mining trip.
aQ73vW5.png

Well, as a member, they give me access to docking services, so...
MpJ9CFN.png

Oh come on. If you're not going to swipe it from me why not look the other way? Bastards.
68cBdC3.png

Well, we can install this unknown device instead. Thats probably safe to do.
VKYMocq.png

Actually, I already know what it is. Meta info ftw.
CYEB3h4.png

Ta-da! The cheapskate way to identify a device. Equip shit until you find something it enhances. Assuming the device enhances stuff.
L7PMTzm.png

Time to ditch this thing I think.
vGzPiuh.png

Oh yeah, theres other stuff you can do here too. Some neat info.
3VitCyT.png

8R5L5yi.png

uD0xf13.png

Note that these suckers don't have shields, hence the rank requirement to escort them. Well, they're all huge, carry way more cargo, and are slow as fuck. Note their hull too; same as the front of our ship, not terribly strong for a slow ass freighter with no shields. They get more than 4 segments iirc, but it still goes down fast, and burning through any one segment generally makes a ship go kaboom.
Xlxc22V.png

AfgLdbG.png

There's another pirate ship after this one too. Unlike the freighters, these guys have multi layered armour, and an inner hull akin to station bulkheads. You need special weapons rated for station damage to finish them off quickly. Also, the missiles they fire are better than the lame cheap ones with no tracking I've been using.
xRMDzdY.png

If you see one of these while learning the game, I advise doing what it says in the description.
wg72hPG.png

Corporations will rat you out for selling drugs, but if you don't go to the commodities area, you don't need to check customs...
PvdUKXl.png

I think I showed a visit here before, there's a little blurb that shows evidence of drug use here. The game is very good with details like that. Chatting with random people can give good tips too, like places to mine or equipment to use.
14t54HN.png

*Puts on drug dealing hat.*
IsWH3Ca.png

I didn't notice at the time, but as the trade assistant is indicating here, this isn't actually a profitable deal. I only sold the syringes though, cause I knew there are better places to sell. Just wanted to show this option off. You can actually bypass the black market entirely if you want to for some reason. (Or if, say, you blew one up and looted it's drugs and kewl weapons.)
QgAj4BI.png

Gotta find a place to install that hold...
B1a7HLC.png

:rage: I forgot these guys have customs when you dock. I think one type of mining outfit doesn't, but this was clearly not the right kind.
kilQq6h.png

bEA4dP8.png

Well then, better make some money the old fashioned way: violence.
zLLdi8M.png

YrXQkfR.png

Some nice stuff.
3qsXhKQ.png

Remember this thing? I finally did, thanks to that new rom we looted.
TFWV3ij.png

Apparently this requires experience too. That sure bodes well.
yxf8nlk.png

Thats ok, still 6 charges left...
ZAwQhkd.png

Ouch, that was a lot of charges for one item. These things aren't too common. Though, there are only so many low tech items we'll need to ID anyways.
2I1YJa8.png

Good thing we ID'd this. Wouldn't want to remove that display enhancement most of you probably didn't even notice. Also, it blinds you intermittently for a while, but you can just wait that out unless you're a retard and popped this during a firefight.
JRGxmyI.png

Anyways, shield upgrade is nice.
qukgtbL.png

And this is now worth 11 times it's previous value since we know what it does.
P4kVfiA.png

Speaking of unidentified shit... this probably isn't worth spending all our money on. Lets use our funds to turn a profit instead.
qabaOXw.png

CuNoYtE.png

These things are nice finds though.
i1mSc8E.png

Oh, and we'll install this. Will make a nice base cracker if we don't want to use missiles or find a better item before we need it. Plus it's just nice to have more toys.
S2dtXEx.png

Pew pew!
7LUaKsk.png

Another way to get a black market chip.
1afqLdL.png

Too heavy to bother looting. The ship actually handles much worse when weighed down a lot.
pA6NVEl.png

Would love to have this baby installed. Those seige mags really do live up to their description. I'll have to go into some detail on how station armour works later, it's not something I can show with screenshots.
Lukze8I.png

Oh. Well then. This seems like a good place to end the update. :troll:

I played this game a few times years ago. It's not bad, but I don't really feel compelled to play it again.
