Update 3: Rule Of Three
3rd Nov - 4th Nov
3rd Nov - 4th Nov
The newly formed Squadron based in General Discussion get cock-blocked as UFO-42 lands in Columbia. But we leave the aliens to experiment with their newly acquired white gold to go shoot down their buddy.
100% chance to win and without my supervision, they still manage to get 2 of my fighter jets downed! Then the fuckers have the nerve to claim that there's a 0% chance that Squadron-2 and take out the Corvette as it rises into the sky, no doubt to make off with its precious loot.
Not today, criminal scum
We launch a raid at first light on the first downed UFO, but it looks like they saw us coming.
Fortunately I put my big guns at the mouth of my dropship. Ashery snipes the Cyberdisc out of the sky and Stechyo provides the finishing touch. I expected the worst after the 'disc reaction fired right into our faces, but we resisted its suppression effect.
The realisation that I'm playing this fucking map for, what, the 4th time this playthrough, made me ragequit
Screams and gunshots mean I can locate two or three Xenos to the south of us, but Dextermorgan is taken by surprise as a Harridan pops out of an unexpected place and gives her the good news.
It ducked back into the building, and there's no way I'm playing cat and mouse with this thing. Fortunately I have tools at my disposal to get around that problem, plus a delicious looking propane tank.
Stechyo closed the distance to mercy kill the alien with a double tap to the base of its skull at short range. Paxton Fettel, our point man in getting eyes on beyond the garage that most of our bros are dotted around, takes a flurry of fire from this Cyberdisc.
At the same time we engage three Andron Guards down the alleyway, drawing first blood, but this is far from a firefight that I really want to take.
Jackal armour is really saving our arses and we're starting to run low on grenades and rockets. But after putting a Soldier and the Cyberdisc that shot Fettel into cybernetic sleep, we have made a strong flank on our axis of attack.
A wall of machinery bars the entrance to the UFO but they're too deep to make me worried about them charging out and turning this into a bloodbath.
Azira and Smartcheetah lead the way, both their shields destroyed by the last robot standing.
That was much less painful than our previous encounter with these things.
Round 2! Fight!
Our immediate opposition is a Soldier, two Guards and a Cyberdisc. Three civilians buy us a free round and we make good use of our grenades, destroying the hay bales the enemy use for cover.
Cornered. His shield already disintegrated by blaster fire. Smartcheetah keeps calm, aims, and pulls the trigger.
How does it feel like to be shown up by a rookie, Azira?
Spotting a Harridan and an Andron hiding in the opening of a barn, Nevill completely whiffs what could have been a very important rocket.
Luckily for us the Harridan misses after flying out into the open and gets gunned down.
Before the dust settles we've already got one foot on the ground, taking the initiative and taking the entrance corridor.
Even with an upgraded shotgun Gramgravy struggles to take down the blue terminator. Azira, eager to redeem himself for his cowardice, backs him up.
Just the control room to take now...
RIP Azira
Six of you remain, most sporting injuries of some sort. Are you bros bad ass enough to take a Corvette on your own?
Let's find out
Learn to duck, Stechyo!
With only a round before he bleeds out and a Cyberdisc looming on the horizon, of course his nerves fail! Meaning Nevill is going to have to make a mad dash into open ground with medkit in hand, both cutting down on our firepower and putting us in a vulnerable position.
Thankfully Grimgravy was in the right place and Cyberdiscs are flimsy enough that it only takes a single shot. Ashery and Paxton Fettel, side-by-side, make short work of an Andron on their flank.
Smartcheetah gets into an advanced position to spot the UFO and this Soldier. Nevill's rocket flies wild but Ashery's aim is true. It's just going to take a lot more rounds to give this thing CTD'ing.
Something that doesn't help when it turns and guns down Stechyo. At long range. With the alien equivalent of a shotgun.
RIP darthaegis
Oh fuck. Paxton Fettel is achieving the grand sum of fuck all, Nevill is missing with every shot. Grimgravy has just won a duel with a Andron inside the rock formations to the north, leaving only Ashery to plink away.
Grimgravy tries cominh to the rescue, landing his Elerium grenade perfectly only to have his dreams of heroism shattered when the cyborg simply turns and shoots him in the face.
Finally Ashery manages to land a good shot, taking this killing machine out of action.
Our wounded assault specialist is too tempting a target as he crawls into cover. Rapid fire from this Andron thankfully missing, though preventing Grimgravy from reaching into medkit to save himself.
Everyone is worse for wear. Smarthcheetah is on his last legs, but we need every single gun right now. Fettel's MG bursts are wild, as is Nevill's final rocket, and Ashery can't take these things out in a single shot.
RIP Grimgravy :salute
Too late, bro, way too late
Smartcheetah cheats death, drawing fire from yet another Andron lurking by the cactus patch and setting Paxton Fetel up to steal the kill.
Our band of bros is, realistically, three guys. Claiming this UFO for glory and profit seems a bridge too far.
