The discobots & killers ain't so hard with a good rifle, but I tried everything, even bazzokas, and couldn't get past the 3 Slicer Dicers...

By easter egg, do you mean just a general reference to Wasteland 1 robots (Octotrons and Slicer Dicer) or something more specific, like a particular location from the original game?
General reference to WL1 slash "a taste of things to come" kind of thing, as you will encounter these guys later down the line, just not at this stage, normally.

It can't be that bad, can it?

Update #4: Death Machines, part II

wl2b_up04_000.jpg

codex.jpg
AH!
azira.jpg
Oh, God!
storyfaq.jpg
Fuck!
erebus.jpg
ARGH!

wl2b_up04_001.jpg

erebus.jpg
I smell roast.

wl2b_up04_002.jpg

codex.jpg
StoryFAQ...! Oh, well.

SF is now DEAD. Like, permanently. Normally I would reload immediately, but I'm curious how this will continue.

wl2b_up04_003.jpg

Another Silcer Dicer joins the battle, as if one wasn't enough.

wl2b_up04_004.jpg

For some reason Erebus cannot attack the opponent due to being 'Out of Range' despite standing right next to it. (?)

wl2b_up04_005.jpg

Codex does not get 'out of range' note, but he is not able to attack too. Maybe that's because he is affected by the energy field?

wl2b_up04_007.jpg

The field's description says nothing about it disabling character's attack.

wl2b_up04_008.jpg

Angela moves away, just in case, but nope, the rangers are just unable to attack at all. Some bug.

Not that them being able to attack would change anything here.

Reloading.

wl2b_up04_009.jpg

I actually started this combat by accidentally left-clicking a robot. The game assumed I wanted to ambush it. Oh well.

wl2b_up04_010.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
Aren't you going to reprimand her?

codex.jpg
You must have confused my willingness to fight killer robots with feeling suicidal.

wl2b_up04_011.jpg

codex.jpg
Don't let it get to you!

wl2b_up04_012.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
DIE!

azira.jpg
Wait, was that a mace? You're not shooting your revolver any more?

storyfaq.jpg
It proved inefficient.

wl2b_up04_013.jpg

codex.jpg
Azira!

erebus.jpg
So fragile...

wl2b_up04_014.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
I knew it was a bad idea to stand in plain sight.

wl2b_up04_015.jpg

codex.jpg
Damn, too slow!

wl2b_up04_016.jpg

Good thing we still have Angela.

wl2b_up04_017.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
Let me put my medical training to some use...

wl2b_up04_018.jpg

codex.jpg
How's it going?

storyfaq.jpg
I think I am going to need some more time on this.

wl2b_up04_019.jpg

Erebus is one AP short, as usual. For some reason melee attacks cannot be perfomed between diagonally adjacent squares.

wl2b_up04_020.jpg

Angela gets her share of pain.

wl2b_up04_021.jpg

erebus.jpg
Bad robots!

wl2b_up04_022.jpg

codex.jpg
Oh, great.

Remember kids, stay in cover when fighting projectile-firing enemies!

wl2b_up04_023.jpg

Well, we were doing much better the first time against these guys.

wl2b_up04_024.jpg

Angela scores a crit.

wl2b_up04_025.jpg

And another one! What a girl! Octotron is down.

wl2b_up04_026.jpg

I decide to try using a healing item on a downed ally, and...

Yeah, another bug. But I try to look at the bright side - we could be winning when this happened. ;)

Reloading.

wl2b_up04_027.jpg

I try to approach the robots from a different angle.

wl2b_up04_028.jpg

It fails.

TPKs: 3

Reloading.

wl2b_up04_029.jpg

But the idea seemed good enough, so here's another attempt. Hopefully with better execution.

wl2b_up04_030.jpg

Azira moves first, as usual, and hits. For zero damage. :deadhorse:

wl2b_up04_031.jpg

Angela and her OA-16 perform much better.

wl2b_up04_033.jpg

She gets targetted by robots for her effort.

wl2b_up04_034.jpg

Erebus smacks killer hard.

wl2b_up04_035.jpg

erebus.jpg
:balance:

wl2b_up04_036.jpg

codex.jpg
Note to self: don't stay in the open ever again.

wl2b_up04_037.jpg

codex.jpg
This really isn't my day.

wl2b_up04_038.jpg

azira.jpg
:rage:

wl2b_up04_039.jpg

Angela downs the first killer.

wl2b_up04_040.jpg

And makes first successful strike against Infinitron Octotron.

inXile, please put a robot named Infitron in the game.

wl2b_up04_041.jpg

codex.jpg
Damnit, Erebus!

erebus.jpg
Sorry.

wl2b_up04_042.jpg

codex.jpg
Get your shit together, people!

storyfaq.jpg
This is not as easy as it looks.

wl2b_up04_043.jpg

codex.jpg
If Angela dies, I'm holding you personally responsible, StoryFAQ.

storyfaq.jpg
Why me?

codex.jpg
Erebus is too stupid to care, Azira too pretty to pick on her, and nobody likes you anyway.

storyfaq.jpg
Right.

wl2b_up04_044.jpg

Rave bot's attacks are not really noteworthy.

wl2b_up04_045.jpg

codex.jpg
That's it. After my next attack I'm going into cover.

wl2b_up04_046.jpg

codex.jpg
I will count every wasted bullet out of your salary!

azira.jpg
In that case, I want a mace too.

wl2b_up04_047.jpg

codex.jpg
Oh yeah, this is exactly what we need right now, Angela.

wl2b_up04_048.jpg

codex.jpg
I don't want to hear any comments about this.

storyfaq.jpg
I didn't say anything.

codex.jpg
It is enough that you knew I was talking to you.

wl2b_up04_049.jpg

azira.jpg
This shotgun is useless!

wl2b_up04_050.jpg

erebus.jpg
I will rip you to pieces!

wl2b_up04_051.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
No, actually, I shall do that.

codex.jpg
Good job, guys!

wl2b_up04_053.jpg

codex.jpg
Ha! Suck on that, toaster!

wl2b_up04_054.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
This is looking increasingly promising.

wl2b_up04_055.jpg

Azira just moves into cover.

wl2b_up04_056.jpg

Erebus tries to close in on the last killer, but stay in cover, which is not easy due to his slow movement.

wl2b_up04_057.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
I don't want to be personally hung by my balls, so don't move, I will heal you.

wl2b_up04_058.jpg

codex.jpg
:greatjob:

wl2b_up04_059.jpg

Discobot must have felt abandoned, so it joined everyone by the chest-high wall table (?).

BTW, I wasn't aware that MC Hammer's most famous song got its main sample ripped out from an earlier piece of music.
Every day, you learn something new.

wl2b_up04_060.jpg

Being in cover, our team just laughs off the remaining killer's attacks.

wl2b_up04_062.jpg

Angela is the only team member who can attack the robot from this spot.

wl2b_up04_063.jpg

Azira shoots disco bot instead, but it barely works.

wl2b_up04_065.jpg

Angela goes rogue and attacks disco bot twice.

wl2b_up04_066.jpg

Comander Codex manages to finish the annoying tin can off.

wl2b_up04_068.jpg

Melee guys move closer.

wl2b_up04_070.jpg

azira.jpg
Ah, fuck!

codex.jpg
I told you to stay in cover!

azira.jpg
I am staying in cover.

wl2b_up04_071.jpg

These killers' shotgun resistance is through the roof.

wl2b_up04_072.jpg

Their assault rifle resistance is acceptable, though. :smug:

wl2b_up04_073.jpg

Victory!

And a Level Up!

wl2b_up04_074.jpg

But first, the spoils.

wl2b_up04_076.jpg

codex.jpg
I don't think I will be able to open either of these containers, the locks are too complex.

wl2b_up04_077.jpg

Using perception on the robot, uh, corpses, gives Azira some minor XP.

wl2b_up04_078.jpg

I tried using StoryFAQ's synth tech ability on the destroyed robots, but I wasn't able to, even though I got a % chance of success tooltip upon hovering the cursor over them.

wl2b_up04_079.jpg

wl2b_up04_080.jpg

wl2b_up04_081.jpg

wl2b_up04_082.jpg

wl2b_up04_083.jpg

wl2b_up04_084.jpg

codex.jpg
After my promotion I feel a bit more confident in my lockpicking ability.

wl2b_up04_085.jpg

codex.jpg
Only a little bit, though.

wl2b_up04_086.jpg

codex.jpg
I'll start with this one. Looks a tad simpler than the other.

wl2b_up04_087.jpg

codex.jpg
Shit...

[TWO HOURS LATER]

wl2b_up04_088.jpg

azira.jpg
How's it...

codex.jpg
SHUT. UP.

[ANOTHER TWO HOURS LATER]

wl2b_up04_089.jpg

codex.jpg
Yes!

storyfaq.jpg
Seven bullets and a blood pack. Definitely worth the wait.

Yeah, seriously, WTF? Is the loot level scaled or what?

wl2b_up04_090.jpg

Erebus gets a +1 to being blunt.

wl2b_up04_091.jpg

Azira improves her perception.

codex.jpg
Let's scout the rest of this area and see if it is worth exploring. Azira, get on it.

wl2b_up04_092.jpg

azira.jpg
Oh, God.

wl2b_up04_093.jpg

azira.jpg
Oh, my dear God.

wl2b_up04_094.jpg

codex.jpg
So, what did you find?

azira.jpg
Yeah, you don't want to know. Just forget about this place.

wl2b_up04_095.jpg

codex.jpg
Time to go, then.

Next time: We actually had some mission to do, didn't we?

Yeah, the loot seems to be crappily balanced at the moment. It's a common complaint, I believe.

Also, Infinitron would be a good name for a robot. :)

If Octotron has 8 limbs, how many limbs would Infinitron have? And how would you show it on an avatar?

that was a worst loot ive seen in years..

by the way the game should let you salvage at least bullet or two from robot scrap.
and its not good to not been able to force a lock on that crate or at least destroy it in process i mean its a fuckin crate if i saw it well and not a damn SAFE in the middle of nowhere

MicoSelva, be a BRO and gift us another update

It wasn't THAT hard. But yeah, the reward was pretty weak. I guess it was some loot table imbalance, though, as I doubt they hand-placed every bullet in every crate in the world. This is not Fallout (sadly).

Will Commander Codex remain the most useless member of his own team? See for yourself!

Update #5: Getting On With It, part I

wl2b_up05_000.jpg

Robots! location has become invisible in the overworld view after we left it.

wl2b_up05_001.jpg

Azira's improved perception lets us score some loot (or it could just be totally random).

wl2b_up05_002.jpg

codex.jpg
What the fuck is that?

wl2b_up05_003.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
Wow, it's a Deperforator 7000! I never thought I would actually see one of those!

azira.jpg
Looks like an armor of some kind.

storyfaq.jpg
Not 'an' armor. THE armor. Wear it and you never have to worry about getting a punctured lung ever again.

azira.jpg
Ok, I'll wear it.

storyfaq.jpg
I did not mean that literally.

codex.jpg
She'll wear it.

wl2b_up05_004.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
I think we can use these to power that energy gun we found earlier.

wl2b_up05_005.jpg

Yup.

wl2b_up05_006.jpg

Radiation clouds are enciricling this whole area.

wl2b_up05_007.jpg

The required Outdooorsman skill level for running away is a big hint for how difficult the encounter is. In this case, it should be pretty easy (I guess).

wl2b_up05_008.jpg

codex.jpg
We are Desert Rangers and we are here to ensure nobody has to pay to live.

erebus.jpg
You tell them, commander.

wl2b_up05_009.jpg

There should be some way to talk your way through this, IMO.

wl2b_up05_010.jpg

No perception XP for Azira this time. No idea how that works, to be honest.

wl2b_up05_011.jpg

Azira wastes her last shell.

wl2b_up05_012.jpg

Angela downs one wastelander.

wl2b_up05_013.jpg

And another one.

wl2b_up05_014.jpg

StoryFAQ smashes the brains out of yet another one.

wl2b_up05_015.jpg

Even Codex scores a kill.

wl2b_up05_016.jpg

Erebus takes his time to get to the enemy, but his eventual strike is deadly.

wl2b_up05_017.jpg

wl2b_up05_018.jpg

wl2b_up05_019.jpg

wl2b_up05_020.jpg

wl2b_up05_021.jpg

For some reason all wastelanders were using German WW1/WW2 era pistols.

wl2b_up05_053.jpg

wl2b_up05_054.jpg

The Lugler is only a minor upgrade over the revolver (larger bullet capacity), so StoryFAQ will keep using his mace for now.

wl2b_up05_052.jpg

The wit of this item description is greatly diminished by the typo in 'poison'.

wl2b_up05_022.jpg

Yeah, let's do that.

wl2b_up05_023.jpg

X marks the spot.

Right. No, wait. Left.

I know what you mean.

wl2b_up05_030.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
There's something in the dirt here.

wl2b_up05_031.jpg

wl2b_up05_032.jpg

This 'star' looks a hell like bullet shells.

wl2b_up05_033.jpg

codex.jpg
Wait, I actually meant right, not left, before. Let's go back.

wl2b_up05_034.jpg

erebus.jpg
I see dead p...

azira.jpg
Yes, we all see them, Erebus.

wl2b_up05_035.jpg

Why don't you go and fuck yourself instead?

wl2b_up05_036.jpg

codex.jpg
My thoughts exactly.

wl2b_up05_037.jpg

Cat fight! Cat fight!

wl2b_up05_038.jpg

Ouch!... Wait, that didn't hurt at all!

wl2b_up05_039.jpg

azira.jpg
Haha! This armor is amazing!

storyfaq.jpg
Told you.

wl2b_up05_040.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
I'm wearing it for the next fight, by the way.

azira.jpg
Dream on.

wl2b_up05_042.jpg

Every time Angela moves, something awesome happens.

wl2b_up05_043.jpg

She's like a living awesome button, but hotter.

wl2b_up05_044.jpg

Azira takes a leaf out of her older team mate's book and finishes off the last raider.

I wish they would be more specific.

They're probably partying right now and giving 'field promotions' to whoever gets on this frequency.

wl2b_up05_057.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
I'll manage.

wl2b_up05_066.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
There.

wl2b_up05_067.jpg

The tower started to beep after StoryFAQ fixed it. I guess we can consider the first thingamabob installed.

wl2b_up06_057.jpg

The raiders we scared away got it easy it seems.

wl2b_up05_068.jpg

erebus.jpg
Blood on sand. Sad.

wl2b_up05_069.jpg

codex.jpg
Try to not waste these, Azira.

wl2b_up05_070.jpg

What the hell is that?

That armor looks pretty good indeed.

I hope they re-balance the loot tables. I'd also prefer it if loot was hand-placed but perhaps they could do a mix of both?

Angela is saying what the hell, what the fuck, etc a lot. I thought being a ranger would make her more used to things like these. She feels like a poor attempt to convey to the player that he supposed to feel shocked. I don't like when a game tells me how to feel. Especially in the world where violence is much more prevalent and the characters should be more jaded because of that. It's like in the middle ages when people watched executions and bodies of thieves rotted away after they were hanged on the main square. And suddenly a character is shocked by every smear of blood he sees. Kinda meh.

Also, expecting cool-headedness from a woman named "Angela Deth" :M

It's like in the middle ages when people watched executions and bodies of thieves rotted away after they were hanged on the main square. And suddenly a character is shocked by every smear of blood he sees. Kinda meh.

Her lover is dead and she's also shocked by the return of the evil robots she fought in the first game.

Also, expecting cool-headedness from a woman named "Angela Deth" :M

Yeah, seems like I made a good decision not bringing her along when I played. She seems pretty Biowarian, just with less emo drama.

Good question.

Update #6: Getting On With It, part II

wl2b_up06_003.jpg

Here's how the Log Book looks like - pretty basic...

wl2b_up06_002.jpg

wl2b_up06_001.jpg

wl2b_up06_000.jpg

...and the curent state of our quests (missions? assignments?).

wl2b_up06_004.jpg

wl2b_up06_005.jpg

wl2b_up06_007.jpg

A few containers with some minor loot.

wl2b_up06_008.jpg

I guess this would have been a good ambush spot.

wl2b_up06_009.jpg

There's a couple of caves in this area, let's check them out.

wl2b_up06_010.jpg

azira.jpg
I don't like the look fo this place.

wl2b_up06_011.jpg

erebus.jpg
There's a huge frog over there...

codex.jpg
Whatever. Let's loot this crate first.

storyfaq.jpg
Your priorities may be a little bit skewed, commander.

wl2b_up06_012.jpg

azira.jpg
It's a giant frog, alright.

codex.jpg
Very perceptive.

wl2b_up06_013.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
Heads up!

wl2b_up06_014.jpg

azira.jpg
It ate my weapon!

codex.jpg
Use the shotgun, then.

wl2b_up06_015.jpg

azira.jpg
I know, I know...

wl2b_up06_016.jpg

erebus.jpg
Go Angela!

wl2b_up06_017.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
It looks a bit like your mother, Erebus.

wl2b_up06_018.jpg

erebus.jpg
*huff* *puff*

wl2b_up06_019.jpg

codex.jpg
I hate my life.

wl2b_up06_020.jpg

azira.jpg
Eat this!

Shotgun damage is really disappointing in this game so far.

wl2b_up06_021.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
Who's the best? I am, obviously!

wl2b_up06_022.jpg

codex.jpg
Good job, people!

wl2b_up06_023.jpg

azira.jpg
It's all sticky and moist!

erebus.jpg
Hey, you said the same thing last night when...

codex.jpg
Drop it.

wl2b_up06_024.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
I think we found what we were looking for.

wl2b_up06_025.jpg

wl2b_up06_026.jpg

wl2b_up06_027.jpg

codex.jpg
Looks like we have some raiders to take care of.

wl2b_up06_028.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
Who is who?

wl2b_up06_029.jpg

wl2b_up06_030.jpg

wl2b_up06_031.jpg

codex.jpg
We should report this.

wl2b_up06_032.jpg

wl2b_up06_033.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
Why is Azira operating the radio?

codex.jpg
I don't really care.

We forgot to tell him about the raider camp. Oh well.

wl2b_up06_052.jpg

One another cave to check out.

wl2b_up06_053.jpg

codex.jpg
A broken toaster? WTF?

wl2b_up06_054.jpg

Well, there is this ability in the game.

wl2b_up06_055.jpg

And we have just the tech guy to become an expert in it.

wl2b_up06_056.jpg

Unfortunately it does not enable any interaction with the toaster. Desperately, we try Synth Tech and Computer Tech too, but to no avail. Either it's another bug or I just don't know how to use Toaster Repair.

wl2b_up06_058.jpg

Moving on.

wl2b_up06_059.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
Sounds like they're fucked.

wl2b_up06_060.jpg

codex.jpg
It looks like Highpool is our next destination. I hope they manage to hold out until we come.

wl2b_up06_061.jpg

erebus.jpg
I don't understand... We were here before. There was no town

codex.jpg
That's impossible. We must have missed it.

storyfaq.jpg
I told to take the blindfold off Azira when she's scouting and put it on her when... we're camping, not the other way around.

wl2b_up06_062.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
Someone is smoking too much weed, it seems.

wl2b_up06_063.jpg

codex.jpg
Yeah, I'd like to hear that again too.

wl2b_up06_064.jpg

erebus.jpg
I have day-jaavu.

wl2b_up06_065.jpg

wl2b_up06_066.jpg

wl2b_up06_067.jpg

For some reason we cannot choose the 'Both' option...

wl2b_up06_068.jpg

...despite Commander Codex being a certified level 3 Smart Ass.

wl2b_up06_069.jpg

We'll have to settle for one of the options, then.

wl2b_up06_070.jpg

azira.jpg
So, commander, where are we going?

wl2b_up06_071.jpg

storyfaq.jpg
Yeah, Codex, make a decision. Which way now? Highppol or Ag. Center?

----------

Next time: Whichever option gets five votes first, will be chosen. If neither gets five or more before I have the opportunity to play the game again, I will pick the one with more votes at that time, or just make the decision myself.

Vote now!

Skills don't get autoselected, you have to put it into your skill bar (right click on an empty spot and put it in) and then use it from there.
