2. Discretion is the better part of valor

BattleCodex Brothers...
We've just moped up the tutorial enemy.
and we get some dough.
We enter town, sell excess loot and hire Roxorowicz's replacement.
Hello Gondolin. He's a bowyer with good vision and he actually has some arrows he can shoot. Hopefully he'll fare better than poor Roxor.
Oh, forgot that Meat Slapper reached 2nd level.
Levelling is pretty simple and I think it could (and should) be improved upon some. Each level you can improve three stats by a random (?) amount: HP, Resolve (helps against routing and mind effects), Stamina, Initiative, Melee Skill, Ranged Skill, Ranged Skill and Ranged Defense. Rarely you'll be pumping anything but the appropriate Skill, Defenses and sometimes Stamina for tanks.
You also get to choose a single perk from one of three categories: Offensive, Defensive and Utility. Having three perks in one category unlocks more powerful ones. Again, some perks are must-haves and some feel rather useless.
Meat Slapper gets Bloody Harvest to make his deadly area attacks even deadlier.
Here's a look of our closest surroundings. Ulhart is a dead end, so I think we're heading there first to check it out.
Along the way we find a lair.
and meet a trading caravan. Unfortunately, we can't attack and raid it (yet). Hopefully the devs will implement it at some point, as playing as scumbag mercs waylaiding caravans and running from patrols would be cool.
Finally we reach our destination without any misadventures.
We take a job, which turns out to be a boring, but safe delivery mission.
I planned to recruit another Codex Brother, but the hirelings available were either shit or too expensive for my coffers. We bought some tools (you go through them
extremely fast and they aren't cheap either).
I decided to take a small detour and do some sightseeing, when suddenly!
SHIT SHIT FUCK FUCK RETREAT
RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN
An unfortunate caravan turned out to be a good enough distraction. However, I got greedy and...
Maybe together we can defeat them.
COMBAT!
I derped a little in the beginning and lost a turn as I hadn't checked out where the map borders are. Turns out I moved the codexers in the wrong direction.
Finally a sight of something.
Enemies in sight [you are now reading it in JA2 mercenaries voice]
One bandit moved out of sight, the second charged right into our midst...
...and got promptly cut down by Nevill.
Helly moves forward and discoveres two more thugs.
One runs into our shieldwall but gets pushed back by Whitewolf.
Suddenly, a wild marksman appears! I just hope this one will be less deadly than the previous...
UH-
OH.
RIP
Helly, I hope your next incarnation is a porcupine
Meat Slapper got mad.
Real mad.
Time to gangbang the killer.
Nevill hits his head, but doesn't kill.
One more bandit appears.
Whitewolf hits and Nevill finishes the job.
One more. For some reason, probably having to do with arriving at an ongoing battle, the bandits got separated, which makes for a MUCH easier job.
Gondolin actually shoots and even connects. Yes, I forgot about him too.
Meat Slapper doing his job. Nothing to see here, move along.
Fighting continues. Nevill almost loses his head.
Whitewolf finally kills someone in a nice double hit.
It's pretty obvious who scored another kill, now isn't it
The last thug evacuated the premises. Victory!
We pay our respects to Helly and congratulate Meat Slapper. He's got seven kills in two battles already.
We pack our things and loot (including what remains of Helly's equipment) and restart the journey to Wallstadt.
Except we encounter yet another bandit party. We get the fuck out. I think we manage to divert them onto another caravan.
Undead detected.
We manage to reach the city without further problems.
We get some pennies and another job.
The last thing in this update: level-ups for most of our guys.
Andnjord gets a defensive perk.
Nevill's hits pierce more armor now.
Whitewolf likes his shield.
and Meat Slapper is even more AWESOME! now.
See you next time.
