Nope, it's not about horses but it is about blowing up alien spaceships and taking over the universe. Seems that after years of nothing we suddenly get a flood of 4x games. Not that I'm complaining. Thing is, are any of them actually good? Anyway, check it out.

RTS combat seems iffy... I heard it being compared to SotSE(meh). Someone try it out and report back, because my time is worth more than yours I'm lazy.

Seems really cool, but I've noticed a tendency for these types of nearly-silent releases to be plagued with issues at the onset. There's no demo (yet?) so hopefully some brave soul will take one for the team to give us the KKK on this bitch, I don't really want to drop $40 on something that could be junk.

Going to have to wait a few months to sift through this inexplicable plethora of 4x space games that just came out these last couple of weeks.

Anyone tried it and can share anything? Is it good? Is it playable at least?

My initial impression is unfavorable. Things invariably go downhill from there, as entropy always increases.

When I attempt to start, you know, a game, because in these kinds of things, who really wants to play a railroad campaign, I am immediately discouraged by the point that it is A: Called "Skirmish", and B: For some reason, despite there being 3 races and like 8 player slots, I cannot seem to actually populate them with more than a single enemy. When I fill the first slot with an AI opponent, every other slot can be opened, but there is no means to actually FILL them with anything. You can't assign a race, put an AI opponent in it, nothing.

In annoyance, when I start the campaign, whatever my actual objectives are appear to be truncated by the right side of the screen, so I can't see what it is I'm supposed to do. From what I could see, it looked more like Starcraft and less like Master of Orion. Except that after the fight ended, all of my units became immobile and it wasn't clear what is they were supposed to be doing. Or what it is they COULD do. I'm honestly unclear as to what the hell this thing is trying to be.

Verdict: Unplayable. This means a lot considering that I'm generally a fan of the genre.

You took one for the team, Norfleet :salute: Now go back and try it with the new patch. I think it fixes that right side thing.

I *DID* install it with the patch. The truncated right side is, honestly, probably the least of the issues with the game. Just from the very beginning I did not get the feeling I was looking as a good, compelling game. It seems to be a game that captures the worst of both the RTS and TBS genres.

Compared to say, Endless Space, it is way worse. At least with Endless Space, I got the distinct impression that I recognized what was going on and what I was playing. This game...well, it conjured up a "What is this?" reaction every turn. It was like, "What am I playing here? Is this a 4x, or is this like Sins? What is it?".

And keep in mind, Sins wasn't terrible. It did what I expected it to do. This? This is terrible.

Tries to be Haegemonia, but it's not half as compelling.

Has there been any space 4X games as good as MoO2 that've come out in the past 15 years?

Sword of the Stars II Part 2: Electric Boogaloo
    :troll:

But seriously, the game is a technical disaster on a Sword of the Stars II level; fucking shame since this an amazing genre. Just stick with Endless Space & Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, they're actually finished.
