Oh, totally. Because the connotation for the two phrases is incredibly disparate.

I'd be curious to hear who he "ripped-off" in regards to El Topo, Holy Mountain and Sante Sangre.

Yeah, let's dodge the question as usual.

I'll do the same. If you want do bedazzle your friends with your indie movie trivia, try some early John Waters, a much better output.

    The fuck?

What question? Your last post contained none. All I see is a guy making a claim that Jodorowsky is a rip-off artist, nitpicking between two words which essentially mean the same thing and generally acting a cunt.

Well, seeing as how you managed to derive hack from rip-off artist, I figured you would have spotted namedropping Metabarons and the possible discussion, but I guess not.

You need to unclench some good sir.

Can't say the thread didn't have a good run.

Caught The Quiet American on early-morning TV this weekend. Better than it has a right to be, largely because of
    a) a stirring performance by Michael Caine (likewise savior of Harry Brown)
    b) it baits you with foregone conclusions / the odd cliche, only to pull the rug out from under you just often enough.

    L.A. Confidential

    :4/5:

A great post-modern noir flick with excellent casting and performances from Kevin Spacey (where the fuck did he disappear to?) Guy Pearce and Russel Crowe.

I think Spacey's probably doing theater at the moment, as he's primarily a theatrical actor with just odd stints in the movies. That just happen to make it big.

Still, great movie, and a shame that Spacey's character, well you know what.

    The Divide (2011) 6.5/10
Mediocre post-apo movie bordering realistic themes and porn torture. It's very inconsistent. But it has a couple of good moments and I was surprised to think about it for 1 or 2 days.
Also has a weak resemblance to Fallout.

I guess there's no accounting for taste. Blade Runner is one of the best movies ever made, whilst Dark City is a mere contender for Best Sci Fi movie of 1998, although Richard O' Brien did a great job as Mr. Hand.

It really isn't. On any level. It is, however, better than 6/10.

I'd give it at least a 6.5/10. :obviously:

Dark City is not better than Blade Runner, but it's neither an average movie. To be fair, we should settle for 7/10 :)

What the fuck? So much nonsense, so many inconsistencies, not to mention that the story made absolutely no sense.

I liked the cgi and the movie was halfway entertaining, but seriously, so much unneccessary nonsense...

cmonn man... what did you expect, real sci-fi?
its a fantasy in space for christ sake...

    Anyway,

Ah yes, a good movie indeed.
And which performance by Ser Michael Caine isnt stirring?

    Watched Avengers finally.

    9/10

As usual, i found the mass market critiques of some of its parts totally missed.
The slow beginning was the right way to go. It made the fun all the better when it started.

Agent Caulson death as a motivator for super heroes joining up made perfect sense, since they all knew him closely and personally.
No one can just relate so much to civilians dying somewhere far away. Think on that next time you see news about people dying somewhere far away.
What really gets you is the one you know.

Scarlet as Black Widow wasnt underplayed at all and she did an amazing job.

Hawk eye got just as much screen time as the story merited.

If anything captain America should have gotten a little bit more of a "ill one up you all by my old school style and tricks". There was a decent part of that but the movie could have used more.
Also... there was that passing look by that super chick... when is that going to get on, eh?
Old captain is running out of punching bags people...

the big three... oh wow :)
    That was... just beautiful.
Especially, especially the Hulk. Oh finally... oh man... so many excellent, superb scenes.
    So many true lols.
A couple of scenes actually surprised me and i screamed with laughter.
    I just wasnt expecting it.
(especially the... -you know what- at the very end. Hey Loki...you wanted a monster?)

man, im going to go and see this in a movie theater just for that.
I may even buy a fucking dvd...

And the Thor got a general upgrade too, while Stark got to show even more good stuff and his big moment.

The only thing that was missing and thats why i give this a 9 was that they missed to show exactly how banner got to "control" the Hulk.
One minute he is tearing up everything (oh man such a great scene with that airplane attacking him.) and the next he is doing it with the team.
One minute he is truly scary... worse than a pack of tyrannosaurs attacking you or any other type of monster ever shown in movies - the next he is smashing for good.

The biggest and best thing about this movie is that it finally showed what such super powers as most of them have, can really do.
Thats why it works so well, although its not the only reason.

Saw this one recently and liked it. Not the greatest movie ever, but it was different.

Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0437857/

    Storyline
The next great psycho horror slasher has given a documentary crew exclusive access to his life as he plans his reign of terror over the sleepy town of Glen Echo, all the while deconstructing the conventions and archetypes of the horror genre for them.

It has a cult following and they are crowd funding a prequel to it at the moment.

Absolutely true. You have to be Superman to be able to feel like that, since he can keep track of the heartbeats of everyone within a city just with his hearing and identify individuals through that. But then again, that's why he's a special case.

It really showed in a good way in the Avengers that Joss Whedon has a long history writing superhero comics. The finale is the first real all-out superhero fight, though one scene in Thor already moved towards it.

This is exactly what cinema should be and should aspire to me. Also Command and Conquer, Dr Strangelove, Wing Commander references and a Downfall parody.

No Falling Down, especially not acting wise, put pretty solid social critique coupled with an entertaining story.

+ it'd make lots of people on the codex rage.

I have no idea. They might like it because Joss Whedon wrote the script.
