A guy called EthanSilver has reverse-engineered the original Labyrinth of Touhou (v2.04) and made a fan mod/remake for what already is a fan game, with new characters, skills, dialogue, etc., and also with re-done dungeons and reduced encounter rate, called Labyrinth of Touhou - Rebirth:

https://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,17317.0.html

Changes (from readme.txt):
- New characters.
12 characters have been replaced. They all come with their own stats and skills. A few
"surprises" from the PC-98 era may also come up here and there...

- New storyline and events.
Because of the changes to the characters, many events no longer make sense. Hence, both the
storyline and many of the game's events have been altered or rewritten to fit with the new
party members.

- New boss battles.
To reflect the character changes and the new storyline, several bosses have been changed.
Mainly character battles. I suppose this goes without saying though...

- Completely revised maps.
Every floor has been revised. While you can still get some use out of the wiki's maps, you
will have to do quite a bit of exploring on your own.

- Altered graphics.
Several changes have been made to many of the game's graphics. Aside from the new title
screen, character portraits have been updated, some backgrounds and event images have been
improved, and the map graphics have been made more contrasting (particularly the mini-map).
With all the new content, a graphical overhaul will surely be welcomed!

- Reduced encounter rate.
- Increased EXP/SP.
LoT is a very grindy game and we've all put up with hours of character-building and
item-grinding. To better enjoy the new content, EXP/SP have been increased and the
encounter rate has been reduced. No need to earmark the sum total of your spare time this
year in order to complete the game! This should make exploring the more annoying areas less
of a pain. (I'm looking at you, floors 10-12!)

- Multiple tilesets.
It's always bothered me that so little effort went into making the dungeon maps look good
visually. The same bland graphics for EVERY SINGLE FLOOR? Come on now... this isn't the DOS
era! I've modified the game to give every floor its own set of map and mini-map tiles.

- Other small changes.
- Chen's "Soaring Guardian God" spell now boosts her MND by 50% and costs 48 SP. May as
well give it a purpose...
- Some of the "town" interfaces have been tweaked slightly so the controls wouldn't
overlap character portraits/images so much. Namely, the Shrine and Library character
list was centered and Akyuu's dialog box is slightly higher.
- Events requiring a certain number of BP to trigger have had their requirements reduced
to account for the reduced encounter rate... and to be less of a pain to trigger when
the involved character isn't one you make much use of.
Download v1.0 of LoT - Rebirth (NB: requires the English-patched v2.04 of the game):

(I've also made a mirror in case the above link disappears)

Download v1.1 patch for LoT - Rebirth:

Other downloads (like the 2.04 patch etc.) can be found in the OP of the Labyrinth of Touhou thread.

The same guy also uploaded the tools he used, called the Labyrinth of Touhou Toolkit, but the link has expired. Hopefully he can reupload it.
