EPISODE FIVE: GREED IS GOOD

z15992959Q,Janusz_Korwin_Mikke_w__Kropce_nad_i_.jpg

"If you, sir, knew anything about women, you would know sir that you always rape (them) a bit." - JKM

krul5-01.png

Good news, I swapped the NTR aspargus core for a skipper and another rockomax-32 tank, added more struts and seperatrons to aid seperation, made it to Duna with no explosions.

The Karoca is already on decaying orbit through atmo. Here's hoping it lands somewhere close.

krul5-02.png

I did some adjustment burns along the way. Mostly burned north a bit to fly directly above the target but more importantly I burned straight up so that I would not fall short.

krul5-03.png

iPNkLlEfZiiyG.png
: Predicted landing site within close proximity to target.

krul5-04.png

iPNkLlEfZiiyG.png
: Deploying parachutes in 5...

Overall this looks good, I used 90 units of fuel out of 720 to adjust my trajectory. The lander itself has about 33% more fuel than the design I used in the Jakan LP to land on Duna so this should work, knock on wood.

krul5-05.png

Opened the parachutes at just the right time. Looks like I'll land quite close.

krul5-06.png

Something blew up on landing, turns out it was the decoupler stuck under the Universal Rover Chassis.

krul5-07.png

Also all tires popped but Kerbals can repair these in EVA just like they can repack parachutes. Oh, forgot to add, since 0.23 they can also carry scientific data between ships, so EVA is slowly becoming more and more useful.

krul5-08.png

C:%5Cfakepath%5Chaters.jpeg

Drive going smoothly. Also I could swear the ground on Duna has a new dune-ish/desert-ish texture in this region. At least the pattern looked new from above and it's definitely not the mod's work AFAIK.

krul5-09.png

MilvenTheDwarf parks his ride next to the stranded Ulminati and Darth Roxor I mean Antoni Macierewicz.

krul5-10.png

After repacking all parachutes, collecting new science and waiting for the Pogromca Lewactwa to be overhead the Karoca flies off for a rendezvous.

krul5-11.png

iPNkLlEfZiiyG.png
: Plotted rendezvous trajectory, closest approach at 1800 meters.

This time the (honorary) potato bros managed to get back into Dunar orbit.

krul5-12.png

ib11bOEdF045xY.png
: No Russians in sight, this is too good, must be a trap.

krul5-13.png

A docking so smooth it would make a Finn swell with joy. I fly the whole shebang to Ike to get that last experiment to complete the Explore Ike contract.

As you can see since I have the lab an extra option to process the experiment appears. Not sure if it's +15 percentage points or just +15%, would prefer the former. But that matters little at the moment since the lander with all it's science will be recovered on Kerbin.

krul5-14.png

iPNkLlEfZiiyG.png
: Your Grace! The ship ran out of fuel during the return to Kerbin transfer burn!

Meanwhile in Moscow

io1E7NbrWlbdb.png
: Da, this trolling of yours is most entertaining comrade Hamster. Nearly as hilarious as the titanium plane-destroying magnet array disguised as a birch tree forest near Smolensk. Now fetch me my blond bitches, I require female company for my annual military expedition into Georgia.

cc8cf22e237d6dc4974319ce65d7fab4117240087d7934f1570b6586b3659844.jpg

ib11bOEdF045xY.png
: Curse you meddling muscovites!

krul5-15.png

iPNkLlEfZiiyG.png
: Pumping fuel from lander to main tank.

krul5-16.png

The four outer fuel tanks on the lander still had fuel. But I will say this, unless this aerocapture at 33km goes perfect somebody will be riding back to kerbin hanging to the ladder on the side of the lander, as it has only room for 3 and I have four kerbals here. Hence I had to roll to see who gets the short straw in my last post.

hoverdog for the time being stays in the Pogromca, if the dip into atmo is too deep and it slows the whole thing down too much he'll have to use his EVA pack while in freefall at over 1800 m/s, in the upper atmosphere, to get to the ladder and cling to it if he wishes to save his life.

krul5-17.png

So far so good.

krul5-18.png

If I did the dip too atmo at one kilometer lower hoverdog would be playing stuntman. I had to burn some because the trajectory went slightly suborbital but I needed just 100 m/s of delta-v, the ship still had enough and I managed to put it into a stable orbit. It retrograde and inclined as fuck but its stable and hoverdog can safely chill inside his pod. I pump the remaining fuel to the lander and undock it.

krul5-19.png

Those lucky enough not to draw the short straw put the lander on a return trajectory.

krul5-20.png

Easy landing among some cacti in the desert sands, unlike the last time I landed in the desert (the one from the last update of the KSP Jakan LP).

krul5-21.png

Good haul.

krul5-22.png

Only 18,6k back for the lander out of a 180k ship. The contract for planting the flag on Duna paid for the ship though.

krul5-23.png

Some rep.

krul5-24.png

Tech unlocks: the LV-N NTR engine, probe engines+fuel tanks and the claw. LV-N research took the majority of that science.

krul5-25.png

Available contracts are shit at the moment so I'll use the newly unlocked LV-N for a deep space probe mothership, do some flybys, drop some lander probes. Eve first then Jool, if any ambitious (read: plant flag on anything other than Eve* or Gilly) missions pop up I'll do that.

*unless anyone wants to volunteer for a one way trip to the surface of purple drank radioactive hell. It's only a kitchen oven with 1,6 gees of gravity after all. Gilly is boring, it's probe fodder.

Speaking of breaking career mode, Scott Manley is doing a video series (part 1 of 2 is up) where he attempts to unlock the entire science tree in stock KSP in 2 missions.

EPISODE SIX: EVE SHOULD BE MAKING A SANDWICH

deska.jpg

Not so long ago a certain socialist said during a debate: "Socialism may slow down the development of a country, but we also get better income equality.", but that's like if he said: "That girl is a bit dumb, but she also has a chest as flat as a board!". - JKM

kurw6-01.png

Well, if ED-209 is to be forever alone on Eve he might as well experience gruesome death due to extreme heat, pressure or radiation chill there until hypothetical rescue in comfort. Also landing a lab makes sense if the soil sample data is supposed to be transmitted back.

kurw6-02.png

The Misogin (misogynyst, duh) is ready to show Eve what her role as a woman is :M

After testing and refining the ladders of the Misogin Eve Exploration Lab Facility (MEELF), I am 100% certain it can be launched and our brave potatonaught will be able to climb back into the pod with the rock samples. This is extremely vital for Eve, as the 1,6 or 1,8 gees make jumping and EVA packs useless.

kurw6-03.png

The lifter uses newly unlocked more powerful engines.

kurw6-04.png

iPNkLlEfZiiyG.png
: Your Grace! The cheap labor we hired thanks to the lack of a minimum wage has forgotten to properly program the launch clamps. I did a manual override but after the last launch clamp was free the rocket spun out of control.

ibi3OVFSpmy9C.png
: Nothing to worry about, this is the invisible hand of the market doing its work and forcing us to hire better contractors. See socialist parasites? This is how the free market solves all it's problems without intervention, only with explosions.

kurw6-05.png

ED-209 sets a new record for the shortest term of service as a Kerbonaut in any of my KSP playthroughs :salute:

Still, we already have such a snazzy design and the Misogin can't go to waste now can it? Hence the choose from list in my last post, MilvenTheDwarf will therefore take ED-209's place.

:troll:

kurw6-06.png

So far so good.

kurw6-07.png

Oh, this rocket uses parts added in 0.23.5. These are a tank+engine combo part with a thrust of 2000 kN, that's 500 kN more than a mainsail(!). But these are hardly the most powerful engine in the game now, as the same update added 2 more powerful engine in the new EXTRA LARGE diameter part size. Still, they're quite excellent for liquid fuel boosters, although they have worse ISP than the mainsail does, hence why I use that for the lifter's core in this design.

kurw6-08.png

Getting to Eve took a 400 m/s correction burn as the planes were woefully misaligned. Oh did I mention the mod I have covers Eve in a thick layer of clouds, obscuring the oceans of radioactive sludge in which we *don't* want to land? Adds a bit of excitement to our lives doesn't it? With the impossibility to be sure we even land anywhere near dry land.

kurw6-09.png

Total cloud coverage, if they ever add such in stock they should add a radar mapper part to pierce the cloud cover and show you a topographical overlay.

kurw6-10.png

Also there's less liquid fuel in the tanks than there should be. Personally, in true potato fashion, I blame Putin and Russia :M

kurw6-11.png

Now, the Misogin comes with two probes, similar to the first Duna mission I did in this LP. The one that got dispatched here will land on Eve, hopefully fulfilling the explore Eve contract will trigger a "Plant flag on Eve" mission to spawn.

kurw6-12.png

I like the bullet-shaped form of this probe.

kurw6-13.png

iPNkLlEfZiiyG.png
: Dense cloud coverage, surface still obscured.

Unfortunately the probe ended up landing somewhere in the twilight zone (or solar terminus, basically at dawn/dusk), so the darkness changed the color of the clouds.

kurw6-14.png

Day time, probe landed safely and data was sent back. Like on Duna these clouds also travel along the surface, a proper fog would be better IMO, but this is just a mod.

kurw6-15.png

No Eve Flag contract generated, but there's one to Explore Jool now.

kurw6-16.png

Meanwhile the Misogin did a few orbital science majewverings and is now on a Gilly flyby trajectory.

kurw6-17.png

Dispatching Gilly probe.

kurw6-18.png

Gravity on Gilly is so low (lowest in the game, it's just a 10km wide space potato after all) that I burned towards Gilly to land since free fall is so fucking slow.

kurw6-19.png

Good thing the thermometer works in vacuum or else I would not get any experiment sent back at all. Explore Ike contract is done.

kurw6-20.png

No Eve Flag contract :decline:, probably the game has it set as really fucking difficult (as it should) so it doesn't throw it into the face of unsuspecting players, only to have them strand a Kerbal or two dozen on the Purple Drank hell.

I did get an Explore Bop (minor moon of Jool) contract though. That's where we're going next.

kurw6-21.png

Unlocked Ion Engines and more electrics (expandable solar panels and more battery types).

And now for some dupokracja (literary meaning asscracy, the system where morons don't vote for enlightened leaders like the Keeng JKM), a vote, since the Misogin is still in Eve orbit but there's no contract to put a flag on its virgin soil:

1) LAND THE MISOGIN AND HAVE MilvenTheDwarf COLLECT ROCKS AND END UP STRANDED (POSSIBLY FOREVER) ON EVE.
2) NO, SEND THE MISOGIN BACK TO KERBIN, JUST SCOOP UP SOME SCIENCE FROM EVE'S UPPER ATMO.

Remember to do your asscratic duty and vote.

2. If I can't be stranded on Eve, no one can. Only a socialist would deny the clear message of the free market.

Well, I am greatly displeased to announce there will be no update of this LP today or tomorrow, possibly there will be one on Thursday and at worst on Friday. Actually there's a very unlikely, but still possible, scenario where I might not get the chance to play the game until Saturday.

Still, judging by what has happened so far I can promise you there will indeed be explosions on more than one occasion.

In other news I have realized that sending Milven down in the lab alone to Eve would have been not such a good idea, as apparently the lab needs two kerbals inside of it to process experiments. So the lab is the only thing in the game where you need more than one Kerbal to do it.

Oh great, I encountered some bug while loading my glorious Perun ship which was going to jool, it ended up fucking up the game forcing me to exit to the menu and resume the career save again. Unfortunately it deleted the Perun and the killed off its crew. I'll have to Clone the poor people murdered by the Kraken and relaunch the vessel.

I'm pissed off because it was well on it way to jool, only one correction burn away from the aerocapture. Now I have to redo all the transfer and orbital plane alignement burn and rename new kerbals to the deceased bros.

EDIT: Actually scratch the cloning bit, I just resurrected them through capitalism necromancy rituals.

EPISODE SEVEN: GREEN IS THE NEW RED

comment_YsQQosoz5aiPoAeLMSUVmxCoaXCJzkO8.gif

WARNING: LEFTIST BULLSHIT

Always protect your ears from cryptomarxist nonsense bros!

And now back to our regular programming, now with 200% more DRAMA and DARK NECROMANTIC ARTS.

krul7-01.png~original

iPNkLlEfZiiyG.png
: Named after true Slavic Pagan gods, the Perun is the most METAL ship ever.

ibi3OVFSpmy9C.png
: Don't overdo it with the neopaganism shtick Kucu, it is starting to sound like some sort of deviancy not unlike being a faggot, a cripple athlete at the paraolympics or a vegan is.

The Perun is a simple yet elegant design. It is actually 4 vessels.

Perun Mothership: which will acts as the primary workhorse of the mission ferrying kerbals and equipment alike.

Biskupin Space Lab: to be left in a strategic place in the Joolian system.

BeBop Lander: a simple lander to collects science and be sent back to Kerbin with the haul, either by the mothership or a small LV-N tug. May include a choice selection of tracks by John Coltrane or J.J. Johnson.

Perun Jool Probe: to be sent on a suicide mission into the green hippie heart of Jool.

krul7-02.png~original

ib11bOEdF045xY.png
: Your Grace, I believe there may be agents of the Russian state near Jool, I must go to uncover their hidden files, before they burn them!

It costs me over a quarter of a million jewgold. But when you're as rich as a Keeng, who worries about money? Oh yes, poor lazy leftists do

:troll:

krul7-03.png~original

krul7-04.png~original

Majestic 3-fold symmetry of the lifter.

krul7-05.png~original

iPNkLlEfZiiyG.png
: SRB seperation resulted in spent booster colliding with one of the outer liquid fuel boosters.

krul7-06.png~original

ibi3OVFSpmy9C.png
: Abort, your keeng wills it.

Luckily an abort action group has been set up and we're far above the ground.

krul7-07.png~original

The crew capsule becomes separated from everything else and parachutes deploy.

krul7-08.png~original

Second launch goes flawlessly.

krul7-09.png~original

Transfer burn is done, so is the correction burn, the Perun is on a proper trajectory for a Jool encounter. Slightly over 50% of the Mothership's fuel remains.

krul7-10.png~original

Since Jool is quite far away I deal with the Misogin next, as the transfer window for it is sooner than the Perun's Jool encounter.

krul7-11.png~original

MilvenTheDwarf grabs some science and completes the explore Eve contract.

krul7-12.png~original

I nearly drained all of the remaining fuel to get back to Kerbin (remember the tanks did nto start with full liquid fuel for some reason, probably a misslick in the VAB when I designed the ship). I had a proper 20-ish kilometer periapsis flyby set, but time warp fucked up my trajectory and made me encounter Kerbin sooner, so I had to do a 400 delta-v burn to correct that as I would miss kerbin by about 10000km.

Milven was quite close to becoming stranded in Solar orbit.

krul7-13.png~original

As it turns out parachute placement was a bit off so the Misogin falls pitched nose down quite a bit. This actually could have proved fatal on Eve, since impacts at 1.6 g (or was it 1.8 g?) with the whole force of the weight on the pod could destroy the pod. Landing legs are meant to absorb that shock.

krul7-14.png~original

Still, the Misogin returns safely, ready for another round of remind Eve to get back to the kitchen.

krul7-15.png~original

The invisible hand of the free market blesses us with much scientific discovery and progress.

krul7-16.png~original

Shitty recovery value though.

krul7-17.png~original

Stuff that got unlocked now: new command pods, some air/space plane parts, heavy duty landing legs and landing gear.

Oh yeah, as I mentioned loading the game or rather the Perun fudged it up and bugged out. After exiting and reloading the ship and crew were dead:

krul7-18.png~original

ibi3OVFSpmy9C.png
: I call upon thee Invisible Hand of the Market, ressurect these 3 by the power of supply and demand.

The Keeng sacrifices leftists to complete his True Rightwing Ritual of Ressurection:
565001_665159103495683_854179072_n.jpg

"Kuce, the flame is growing weak, bring me a leftist!"

krul7-19.png~original

Time to launch a new Perun, had to wait for another launch window.

krul7-20.png~original

Another malfunction upon SRB separation. Shouldn't have outsourced the construction to Wyrmlords or Philipinos.

krul7-21.png~original

At least they did the abort mechanism the way they should have.

krul7-22.png~original

Next launch goes smoothly. The reason the last one got fucked is because I didn't throttle thrust to maximum last time just before SRB seperation. By doing so when the SRBs were jettisoned I managed to fly away from them before they spun around and hit the lower section of the outer liquid fuel boosters. More power solves everything.

krul7-23.png~original

After some course changes the Perun in on a trajectory for a nice shallow dip into a Gas Giant's atmo.

krul7-24.png~original

Personally I'd make Jool's atmo stretch to at least 500km above its "surface", it only goes up to 160-ish or something that.

Jaedar has gone mad from all the deadly plasma flames surrounding his vessel.

krul7-25.png~original

The jool probe is dispatched.

krul7-26.png~original

krul7-27.png~original

Collecting science...

krul7-28.png~original

Easily uploaded everything, all that tasty science.

krul7-29.png~original

Since Jool technically has no ground you can see right through it when you get near to its "surface", herethe moons of Laythe, Vall and Tylo are visible, as well as the aurora effect the Astronomer's Pack mod adds to Jool. A pity the mod didn't add any clouds within Jool's atmo.

krul7-30.png~original

Probe crashed into "the ground".

krul7-31.png~original

All this got me a contract fulfilled so now I got one to Explore Pol, which is clearly a Polish moon. Or a Polandball.

actually it's short for Pollen, because it looks like a speck of Pollen.

krul7-32.png~original

Before going to Bop however, the Perun will drop off the Biskupin Lab in a nice equatorial orbit around Laythe.

krul7-33.png~original

Aerocapture was succesful, or rather I went in too shallow an had to burn quite a bit to enter orbit around Laythe. A few aerobraking passes through atmo later the Biskupin Space Lab has been deployed.

The BeBop Lander attached to the Lab was manned, undocked and docked with the free docking port on the front of the Perun mothership.

The next step was doing an escape burn, aligning orbital planes with Bop and...

krul7-34.png~original

...and the same dumb bug that fucked up my Kerbin return trajectory for the Misogin decided to rear its head again. Long story short, I got an encounter with Laythe AFTER already escaping its SoI and changing orbital inclination around Jool. Which wasn't supposed to fucking happen.

Oh and worst of all look at the flyby path carefully, it goes straight through the Moon.

:rage: :rage: :rage: :rage: :rage:

krul7-35.png~original

ib11bOEdF045xY.png
: CURSE YOU PUTIN! I KNOW THIS IS YOUR FAULT!

reverse-1302782342_putin-and-cute-puppy.gif

I click the abort button (I should buy a snazzy red button with a safety cap over it and plug it via USB just to bind the abort action group in KSP to it).

krul7-36.png~original

Luckily the nearly direct impact trajectory was with the only moon in the game to have an atmosphere. Without atmo the three lives I resurrected would be once again be claimed by death.

krul7-37.png~original

Safe splashdown. The unplanned entry into atmo destroyed the solar planels on the BeBop lander and there was no other power source on either the Perun pod or the Lander, so not all of the science is transmitted back to Kerbin as the batteries run dry.

I will admit this, while at least the dolts are alive, they are stranded in the middle of an alien ocean. Getting them back will be difficult. I have an idea on how to do it but there are 3 issues:
1) Water landings are very risky.
2) Laythe is not Duna, the atmo and gravity here are much closer to Kerbin, any precision landing will be much harder.
3) I don't have all the parts I could really use for a rescue mission unlocked.

krul7-38.png~original

I unlock nodes which grant me most of the spaceplane parts. Sadly I still lack SABRE... I mean RAPIER engines. RAPIER engines are a new part added back in 0.23, one which was often requested on the official forums, they're hybrid rocket/turbojet engines based on the real world SABRE engine, perfect for SSTO spaceplanes and spacecraft. Basically they're two engines in one engine, capable of switching modes between one wroking like a jet and a rocket engine. Which means that SSTO mass is reduced since you need about half less engine mass that without using them.

krul7-39.png~original

However I get a new contract for Laythe flag planting (no exploration though).

krul7-40.png~original

And one granting me access to RAPIERs. Lucky indeed, now I'll need to think on how to rescue the stranded codexers and plant the flag in one mission...
