This looks a bit like a single player DS1/2. Anything like that?

EDIT: ok checked out an LP on yt. Not really. More like DS3 without retards in charge of design.

Just look over this thread: it's basically single player World of Warcraft meets Fable. Although the generic/boring storyline is closer to Fable than WoW (which actually has a decent story and quests in some places).

How many times are these stupid semi-indie developers going to hop into bed with EA before one of them finally realizes it's a shitty idea?

I suspect that the recent Kickstarter buzz has made these guys more willing to publicly blame the publishers for this kind of shit. Times they are a-changin'.

Kickstarter will produce some bad apples/scams, but It's a good change for the most part. Detaching the leeches that are Publishers from the gaming industry is going to help improve the quality of games overall.

Publishers must die so that turds like Banalur are never ever financed again.

Why does EA continue to support this turd with DLC when the game was clearly a financial flop?

It seems to have sold well on Steam. Not Skyrim well, which has probably sold more copies than any other RPG before, but well enough to not be a bomb.

Or it was a flop and EA is trying to recover some losses with DLC.

Lol, I've just noticed I had this thread on my reply pending list.

I think the more important thing is how is being hart to hit implemented. It's pretty obvious that if it's just a single, non-interactive roll, it's not going to be terribly exciting, while the extensive mechanics of blocks, dodges, parries and (for ranged combat) cover, will yield a bit more gameplay.

Still, even a single probabilistic roll does indeed give better gameplay for very simple reason:

With deterministic gameplay events unfold completely based on you tactics - you know what exactly will happen and when. It's predictable and boring. Probabilistic mechanics makes sure that there are multiple branching chains of events, ensuring that player cannot just pick tactics and go on with it, but will have to change it dynamically and possibly have multiple "plan b"s.

That actually makes much more sense than complaining about missing.

Id say its not as bad as DS1 or DS1 were, but still its not a perfect game. They could have done better, 1st DLC was indication of that can if they wanted.
Part of me wishes that Blood Omen 2 had similary large world and a better combat system.

Game is far more fun than Skyrim and is not crashing like TW2 or FNW so I say they did good job on this one. Mine only grip is that Lore and NPCs names seem to be random giberish and hard to remember.

Oddly enough first game stoping bug I encountered was with the 2nd expansion and tied to one type of creature causing the crash if you went to its attack zone.

I just played through the 2nd DLC. So much wasted artwork. They should have never gotten tangled in MMO faggotory.

I hate the combat. Made me lose my interest. Shitty beginning didn't help. Why can't they learn from games like Two Worlds that let you explore the whole world from the beginning?

The fact people point out it's an offline MMO and Walker seems confused tells me he's not the journalist I thought he was.

Of course that's become apparent over the last few years anyway.

Fuckers released it 2 months after Skyrim, they never got a chance to compete with Bethpizda marketing wizards.

    Comment from that article:

Seriously? Amalur is hard to spell? I heard it once, not read it, heard, and I was able to spell it when I searched for it on Google. RPS is seriously in the dumps if those are the kinds of people they write articles for.

I think their biggest mistake was the NPCs. They seemed mostly like databases (like Morrowind), but you can completely skip all the text just clicking on the get quest line (like Diablo). There was lore there that was truly interesting, the delivery was just painful.

Pretty much this. The IGNs have been sucking bethesda cock so hard, you'd think there was money inside it. Meanwhile, the Amalur devs were pulling straws on who has to go to the mall and steal some food.

And Skyrim's dialogue and NPCs were what, well written?
