New Multi-Million project seems to be a spiritual Sequel to Banjo-Kazooie by some Ex-Rare employees:

And it's reaching the stretch goals as they are put up. Kicktraq sees them on their way to 20 million dollars if they keep up that pace. All the 5k $ pledges are sold out already.

PoE2 confirmed to be a 3D platformer.

Aloran (aka Project Silkworm), an isometric, turn-based RPG project by fellow codexer Apexeon. Inspired by Infinity Engine games and Master of Magic.

Master of Magic? I think Might and Magic?

The whole KS video is just a bunch of slideshow (but very nice looking) screens...
I'm not sure if Apexeon changed the game's scope, but originally he planned for his main influences to be Master of Magic and XCOM. See here, here and here.

He also mentioned Ishar and Warriors of the Eternal Sun as influences in the original Kickstarter draft, but those have been removed for being more obscure. You can check out the project's thread here on the dex.

After seeing the art direction they used for mighty number 9, I'm pretty cautious when it comes to Japanese developers. Also the whole 'we need to convince investors' sounds kinda hinky. Still, another metroidvania is never a bad thing, will buy on steam sale if it ever gets finished

It's quite unusual, actually. A cheap platformer, yet it's going to get ~4M like some super big rpg. In comparison, Shovel Knight got 300k.

Troll Ruins Kickstarter Campaign After Withdrawing €7000 Pledge

2Awesome Studio, the team behind a Kickstarter campaign for the shooter Dimension Drive, just had their hearts put through the ringer.

With their time almost up, and with thousands remaining to hit their goal, a single backer appeared out of nowhere and pledged €7000.

2Awesome Studio @2AwesomeStudio
Who is Jonathan, Jonathan is our hero! We love you and we want to meet you in person! THANK YOU 7000k in a single pledge! #DimensionDrive

The devs were, unsurprisingly, thrilled.

2Awesome Studio @2AwesomeStudio
Funded at the moment of speaking, can we reach 500 backers? That would be a nice number https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2awesomestudio/dimension-drive … #gamedev #indiedev

But then, heartbreak.

2Awesome Studio @2AwesomeStudio
We've just been informed by Kickstarter that the 7K euro pledge was fraudulent. Somebody played with our dreams. Sorry for the confussion :(

2Awesome Studio @2AwesomeStudio
Somebody pledge 7k to our Kickstarter just to be taken a way in the last moment. Trolling our end of #Kickstarter. Funded and it's gone

2Awesome Studio @2AwesomeStudio
Don't know what to do now, mentally devastated :( Don't know what to do now #gamedev #indiedev https://twitter.com/2AwesomeStudio/status/598630409006686208 …

The clock has since run out, and the game was just under €7000 short of hitting its goal.

“We honestly do not know what to say”, 2Awesome’s Alejandro Santiago tells Kotaku. “We are quite devastated in the team right now. It has been a roller-coaster night for us to be honest.”

2Awesome say the pledge, which was made a few hours before the campaign’s closure, was withdrawn by Kickstarter for being “fraudulent” with only 31 minutes remaining.

“Honestly speaking it has been a exhausting month for us. We have been working really hard to make our campaign a success, and right now we are speechless, demoralized, you name it”.

A Kickstarter rep tells Kotaku that the user behind the fraudulent bid has been suspended.

It’s one thing to have a game come up short on Kickstarter. Shit happens, the market pays for what the market wants, etc. But nobody should have to go through this.

Of course, it may really have been "ruined" from the start...

Interesting. Looking at their Kicktraq it seems like they may have been greasing their own wheels, particularly when you look at stuff like days like May 8, 9, and 10. On those days they had 9, 8, and 3 new backers, but the totals were €2,437; €1,377; and €1,066. I checked the updates, and there weren't any extras added on those days that would explain it. If you check May 5, 6, and 7, the numbers are 16, 15, and 16 new backers, with totals of €247; €202; and €437.

22Cans: 'Crowdfunding has waned, and that's a good thing'

Kickstarter is losing its popularity and that’sgood news for the games industry, says 22cans.

The developer came under fire from the media and consumers after its Kickstarter project – Godus – suffered development issues. The firm later admitted it may fail to meet some of the pledges it made to its backers.

Head of production Andrew Walker said that a growing awareness of the challenges around crowdfunding has seen some consumers reticent to back projects – but that’s not necessarily a negative.

“There was a huge boom in crowdfunding in the games industry over the last few years, and that has waned now as people have started to understand it better,” he told MCV. “I think that’s a good thing. It’s settling down and is starting to find its key demographic.”

He added: “Crowdfunding is a perfectly valid platform for some consumers. But people who crowdfund need to be aware that they aren’t pre-ordering; they’re backing a business decision.

“The industry needs to take a very clear stance on crowdfunding and all crowdfunding attempts should be open, honest and explain the risks to the consumer.

As much as they screwed things up with Godus, it's still looking better than games like Clang, DF-9, or Yogventures (and I'm not even including the outright take your money and run scams). Hell, I'd say they're probably more honest than Elite: Dangerous, which seems to have outright lied about DRM just to get funding.
