Check out the 12 min nerd-tech-gasm porn video with Carmack:

Yesterday at E3 in Los Angeles, I pretty much just asked Carmack to explain why he's programming the re-release of Doom 3 to work with a prototype $500 head-mounted display. His response was pure Carmack, a dozen-minute nearly uninterrupted oral dissertation on the ins and outs of head-mounted tech.
John Carmack is more excited about a future with immersive virtual reality gaming than he is one with everyone wearing augmented reality Google glasses. Watch the video to find out why. Or, hell, just watch the video you and you'll understand why there's no one in the world quite like John Carmack.

So this is why he is re-releasing Doom 3. :avatard:

Pff talk about being late to the party, I've been enjoying immersive, visceral 3D graphics since the mid 90's.

He's trying to make The Surrogates a reality so his autistic ass doesn't have to interact with people anymore.

After the disaster that RAGE was for anyone with an ATI card I don't even consider the guy a decent programmer anymore. Worse was the complete disregard he showed for people having problems with the game, basically telling them to fuck off because he wasn't having any problems with his nvidia card. Spergers gonna sperg I guess.

John Carmack is a realtime computer graphics researcher in the guise of a game programmer. id is his laboratory and the games released are his experiments.

That this highly unorthodox state of affairs is allowed to exist in today's gaming industry is a testament to the magnitude of id's institutional prestige.

Carmack has declined : x

- Doesn't want to improve graphics and push tech anymore
- Wants to push games out much faster
- Thinks games are too hard and dumbed down Doom 3: BFG with more light and more ammo
- Has a hard-on for Macs and Mobile development
- Doesn't want to support Linux, doesn't understand why Valve does
- Wants "Cloud Gaming", doesn't understand why Valve doesn't
etc.

Why should he support Linux? It's a waste of time and money. Only people with outdated PCs use Linux since they can't run games under Windows with good framerates but they need to be counter-culture about it.

Valve's shop is all about money. If they can sell L4D2 to 100k more hipsters with shit PCs with Linux - why not? But I don't see how releasing a whole whopping ONE game with 8 years old graphics under Linux is supporting it.

Wants "Cloud Gaming", doesn't understand why Valve doesn't

Of course Valve doesn't want this. That will quickly take away products from their shop which is not different from cloud gaming - i.e. you need to install Steam bloatware to run games they sell there - but true cloud gaming is a better DRM.
It's not because Valve cares about the gamer or anything. They don't.

Carmack is shit who is forever stuck in 95 when engines were all about boxes and nothing else but dude your points are just as shitty.
